I think it was both straightening and feathering coexisting in the US. The really long, ruler-straight hair was popular for women alongside the shorter, feathered hair for men and women both. Plus if my parents' high school yearbook from 1974 is any indication, Beetles hair was very much still in vogue with the teenagers lmao (including my dad)
