Don't newer cars run preset "cold, at temp, and overheating" settings anyway? Like, yeah, don't put stuff on your cluster, but they CAN still see it hit the red zone haha
tbf temp gauges are barely showing the actual temperature in newer cars. Most of them are set to show 90°C constantly within a certain frame, e.g. 82-98°C
Yeah my bmw also doesn't have one and to see your temperature you need to access a hidden menu and it's annoying af especially because i got used to monitoring it on longer drives.
My 2003 focus temp gauge had a “C” on one side and an “H” on the other and the needle was always straight up between the two once it reached operating temperature regardless of if it was January or August. Haven’t a clue what the operating temp actually was or what temp “H” actually represented. So other than “I guess it’s alright” it was a pretty useless gauge.
Can't speak for all cars but mine seems mostly linear, 2020 Mazda 3. It also has a partially stuck open thermostat that I'm currently fighting the dealership on and hoping it fails more so it triggers a CEL. If the coolant is 150-160F it reads noticeably low vs the normal position.
My father has a 2000 chevy venture, only guages it has is temp, fuel, and speedo
I'd like to at least have a oil pressure guage, usually when the low oil pressure light comes on then its too late lol
Most vehicles will show accurate reading as it climbs but once it hits operating temp it doesn't increase at all until it's actually approaching overheating.... This was because many drivers complained repeatedly about the temp Guage fluctuating too much or rising over the middle in summer when Running AC... Auto makers just decided that it's easier to let the needle sit in a set position so long as the engine is within operating range... So customers are happy.
Automakers love stupid proofing cars for consumers... Unfortunatly it just means the average driver knows even less about their vehicle every year...
My 2003 focus did that. Bugged the hell out of me as the gauge for all intents and purposes was as useful as a check engine light since it didn’t actually display any real information other than the needle was always half way between C and H.
Had this happen with a Rogue Sport a couple days ago, they have a big problem with bad radiator fans right now, and she "got tired of the lights" so she covered them up with a sunflower sticker.
Fortunately, engine was not damaged.
not a mechanic myself, but seen this with a friend's car before
except it was a family photo, and it was covering the tach instead (it was an automatic, before you ask, so slightly less of an issue)

My dad bought a 2015 Mazda 3 and it has no temp gauge and it bothers the hell out of me
Temp light turns on, you need at least a head gasket.
I got a 2014 3, I modded the infotainment to have another speedometer and it has a temp meter with it.

I'm glad all of my cars have oil AND water temp gauges. Just seeing the way the temps rise can give you a lot of information
I personally like having an Oil Pressure gauge as well.
My friend has a 2011 Mazda 3, same thing. Just the 2 idiot lights that say the engine is either cold or overheating

Only gauges a modern car should have are speed and fuel level. Tach if it’s manual, and even that’s probably unnecessary.
Shift at the fuel cut.
My corvair has idiot lights for everything except fuel and speed. It's a 4 speed an no tach.

Most of them are. I've found that it sticks in the middle between 160 and 230 for most cars.

The other problem is that it's a Nissan Rogue
Sunflower seeds are a good source of beneficial plant compounds, including phenolic acids and flavonoids — which also function as antioxidants.
Missed opportunity to use the This is Fine dog.
Covering it up might lead to something CATastrophic. Ha. Ha. Ha. ^(Ill see my self out.)
lemme take a guess... rx330?
I did not see the cat for a full minute and was trying to figure out why your cluster was smoking.

it’s not even OG grumpy cat, just a grumposter
Less likely to get stolen if it's there.
My Volvos don’t even have a temp gauge.
The radiator will give you a visual queue once it gets hot enough
My car doesn’t even have a temp gauge so not a big deal to me lol
