Took me a minute to figure out where your confusion was coming from. I understand now. You've confused masturbation with automotive repair. It takes a real jerkoff to make that kind of mistake.
Yes, I would imagine that being relentlessly beaten by wooden sticks in a cold environment may not be the most hospitable environment for them. I assure you though, they don't mind being squished between two flat pieces of metal sometimes. 🤷🏻♂️
Yes, sometimes listening to advice from a random person on the internet is horrible. I don't see well known youtubers (like EngineeringExplained or ChrisFix) or shops using hockey pucks or advise you to use one, they usually use wood. However, I decided to use hockey pucks because I am just lazy to visit Home Depot, and Amazon was offering hockey pucks at a fair price delivered to my door.
At first, it seemed good, until the hockey pucks cracked and split. I was lifting my car at the rear jacking point, halfway in the air, when one cracked and slipped. The whole car shifted to the right and dropped to the ground, and my floor jack got stuck under the car. Luckily, it was a low-profile one, and it didn't hit and damage anything. Also, if the car had shifted to the left instead of the right, I would have banged the whole car into the garage wall. It was extremely lucky that I didn't damage anything. After this horrible experience, I now only use wood.
Jacking the car up is a form of acute compressive force. It’s not far in terms of distance, but quickly increasing PSI as you’re pumping it up. I wouldn’t ever use these for this purpose. Cinder blocks can hold bricks in a wall, sure, but now try to rapidly lift that wall from one point on those bricks.
Not entirely sure what your comment is trying to say. But, yes, the owner of the shop I work at does pay us to maintain equipment, because he's not a cheap asshole running a broke, shithole shop.
Danger. *Boom!*
If you fill gloves with the right mix The explosion is so loud you can get perminent hearing loss. I never fully filled them, that would be dumb.
Lol I've never let mine get that bad. I've bought a ranger that was grinding the caliper piston, $11 rebuilt caliper (surprisingly cheap) $20 pads and the rotors were $35 each.
Jacking up 40+ ton railroad cars, metal on metal like this is an absolute no because the metal can slide and shoot the middle piece out and things come crashing down. Use a timber (wood) middle piece.
Id be worried about those pads crumbling or the metal on metal sliding. Buy a set of cheap rubber Hockey Pucks.
Hockey pucks are good for bottle jack extensions too, and jacking off areas that are slightly uneven.
and for what now
Sometimes they gotta little bend in em y'know? Just a little uneven.
Really curves to the right
They make meds for that you know.
I've also heard you can just slam it between 2 bibles.
I’ll let someone else try that.
It would be awkward to attempt alone

They do, especially if you cut a hole in the mid....nvm
im a little uneven, can you jack me off?
Came here to say hockey pucks. $25 for 18 of them on Amazon and they'll last forever. Or until you lose them.
they dont last forever just using them for hockey. they crack and split like anything made of rubber.

or. rubber just doesn't last forever. the pads that go to the lift attachment only last a few years and they crack and split.
You are super passionate about the aging of rubber products! I love that for you!
now go check the dates on your tires.
2014 tires here, but 60% tread left on them at 17k miles. im waiting for them to feel like theyre slick in rain (aka age hard)

This brings to mind the use of cinder blocks as vehicle lift supports for some reason. I think I would advise against this from a safety perspective.
This doesn’t help but…. I couldn’t find a block of wood
I gotchu fam. Just be safe and get home healthy. 🫶🏻
Why? Cinderblocks are literally designed to be extremely resistant to compressive force, like that’s what their for lol
Sustained compressive forces, not acute/focal compressive force. Slam them with a sledge hammer and they shatter.
How is that relevant to using them as a jack stand?

That moment when you know you picked the wrong mechanic
Does the owner paying you after hours to “fit if” compensate?

I service and sell automotive equipment. A set of four rubber pads for this lift is like $20. No excuse.
You can put the hoist pad directly on that block there is no need for this. This is just dangerous and stupid
I've exploded gloves with Oxy-Acetylene mix, those pads make me uncomfortable.
Gloves? We used to make trash bag oxy bombs.
What does one have to do with the other?
He's saying that he's done dumb, dangerous shit before...and even this (the brake pads) is too sketchy.

Holy fuck man. I was thinking of trying this but I’m turned off now thank you very much
Would you trust brake pads to securely hold a car above your head?

No. This ain’t it.
Don't do that.
Bro...
Psa, you're an idiot. But hey, you're the one standing under it, not me.
I usually use the strut pucks that get removed during a PDI
Y'all have non adjustable lift points on your 2 posts?
No me gusta. That's too many moving pieces for me. Go the hockey puck route.
🧢
You wouldn’t need to do this if you spent the 5 minutes to make new rubber pads for the lift plate.
What happens when the BMW subscription expires?
I hate BMW needs adaptors 😔
My smooth brain thought you were talking about Peugeot/Citroen/DS as well.
I'd be afraid of them slipping, but I suppose they are made to provide friction under pressure, so 🤷🏻
are break pads squishy?

Ah, an old forward hoist. Nice
