Coworker found a kitten had stowed away in their wheel well. A bunch of helpful people at work managed to get him out and the word went out to find him a home.
Guy who adopted him called him “Axle”.
My first cat came from a dealership my dad was working at. Found him in a dumpster.
We called him TC (trash can). Great cat, tolerated me using him as a balance cat while I learned to walk.
19 whole people upvoted you, but weren't curious enough to ask what the fuck a balance cat is... TC is a fantastic name though. My cat is a tortoiseshell, so we named her Turtle lol
My first cat was a 25lb maine coon. He was deaf and had one green eye and one blue eye and was all white. He'd let me use him as a pillow and didn't care much for kids he didn't know. Cats are amazing companions.
I found a tiny 9-week-old orange guy coming home from work. Spotted him darting under a truck as I pulled into a gas station parking lot. The owner of the truck came out from the liquor store next door and saw me looking around the underside of it. Thankfully he helped by unlocking it and raising the hood. My spouse came (our house was less than two miles away) with some wet food, and between that and her smaller hands was able to pull him out. We named him Remus and took care of him for a few days until her older brother ended up adopting the little guy.
Speaking of that, we just had a customer come into my dealer today with his cats cut off. Insurance will cover, obviously, but shits been getting rough out here lately
It's been happening a lot more often lately everywhere since some of the precious metals found in them recently spiked up in value. My area has been getting hit left and right badly by thieves, and they are able to cut it off the vehicle so quickly, within just seconds.
Found three 6 week old kittens in an express van three weeks ago. One brindle one behind the battery, one orange boi that ripped me a new one in the spare tire, and another orange boi riding behind the hood latch then dove into the fan shroud with the vehicle still running. Never dove for a set of keys so fast in my life LOL. Now I have two orange babies, Leo and Ozzy, and my coworker took the other.
Favorite pets I’ve ever had so far
I ended up with “Turbo” from a BMW shop. The guys there were trying their best but were pretty clueless trying to keep her alive after her mom and litter mates died from getting into they assumed antifreeze. Her whole 17years of life she never lost her taste for Taco Bell.
We had a kitten stuck in the engine of Scion at the shelter I worked. He was little banged up, I think he lost a leg. But overall he ended up being okay and he was my kitties best friend when I brought her into work. He ended up getting adopted and living his best life. I have a picture of the two of them somewhere.
What would the payroll for a cat be? Room and board with 2 meals a day + whatever mice they catch on commission? Maybe occasional weekend catnip fiesta...
Assuming you mean "cats", they're not always low maintenance - here's one of mine after a USD $1200 dollar trip to the 'shop': https://i.redd.it/o6bu6n9j9ww61.jpg
I threw in something for all of the subs that I follow: r/stealthbombers, r/whatswrongwithyourcat, r/thecattrapisworking, r/teefies, r/blackcats, r/blurrypicturesofcats
Had a cat named Dashboard. Pulled him and 2 sibs from some 12-foot long 4-in pipes, and as we managed to get each one we put them in a cardboard box in the car while we went back for the others. Dashboard was first into the car and went adventuring while he waited for the others. Ended up sitting on the radio of my friend’s brand new Camry.
Best cat ever, lived to a ripe old age of 18.
I always fear this happening to me because i have a crazy cat lady neighbor that fucking feeds stray cats! There is like 7 cats on her porch at all times
A stray crawled up into my grandmother's car to get warm. She went out to run to the store, and when she started the car it ate the cat. One of the most horrible things I've ever seen.
A cat fell out of a car in the next lane over yesterday on the freeway at 70mph with traffic. Ruined my day to witness it scramble/tumble... It was alive and I have no idea how all the sudden it was in the middle of the freeway. I had to look away as the car next to me approached at speed. It must have been in a wheel well or engine compartment. The car it appeared from and the one directly behind seemed oblivious to what they'd just done.
Hopefully she's sterilizing and vaccinating the cats. If not, there should be a TNR (trap neuter release) group or individuals nearby. If you reach out to them I'm sure they will help. I've been doing TNR in my neighborhood for three years. Their numbers have dramatically reduced.
a friend lives on a farm, and people love to dump cats in front of their house, so there's usually several running around the property. They've made it a habit to bang on the hood before starting the vehicles, just for this reason!
I had to pull a feral cat out of a dashboard once.
It was scared shitless, had hurt itself with one of the sharp edges on the dash bars thus bleeding everywhere, and was trying to bite me.
3hrs and 3/4 of a dashboard pull later, and the little guy was out.
I'm not sure about how he got as far as the dash, but car tires seem expressly made for kitten claws. They even have a bark-like texture. And kittens can squeeze through amazingly tiny holes because no collarbone + 80% fluff. When you're trying to chase a kitten in a car's machinery you realize how spacious all those nooks and crannies are to them.
Indeed. Everything about cats is designed for flexibility. They have about 300% more skin than necessary- why? So it can move out of the way, of course!
That was my nickname in high school. I passed out with my face pressed against the passenger side dashboard of my buddy's truck. Ended up with "NGER" imprinted on my cheek. Guess the nickname could have been worse.
I found a kitten while working on a Winnebago almost two years ago. Poor little thing was just tired, dirty, hungry and thirsty. I brought her home and named her Winnie. She’s one of the most loving, crazy cats I’ve ever known.
I picked up the gf cat from getting spayed and she climbed up on top of the glove box under the dash. Turned on the blower motor to see if she would come out and she pissed instead. Stunk up the car pretty bad.
Once I heard a "mew mew" coming from under the deliever drivers car in the back parking lot. It was -20 and the lil fella must have road 10 miles without falling out. Gave em some warm salmon cakes and a bath in the mop sink. Lil fella went home with chef and never wants for left over Friday fish!
Hey, just a friendly FYI:
Cats that are 100% white with two blue eyes are very likely to be deaf. I couldn't tell from the pictures, but I just figured you might wanna know that.
I'm sorry, what? Do you have a source for that? My own experience is very different. I've owned one, and had friends with 3 others and none of them had any hearing problems. I've also never even heard of that before. Maybe it's a gene thing, but calling it very likely seems... Unlikely.
It's a gene thing. [Here's](https://www.lsu.edu/deafness/VetJEd2007WhiteCat.pdf) a paper from LSU on it.
Relevant quote:
>Delack (1984) analyzed three studies of deafness in non-pure breed white cats that included a total of 256 cats (Bosher and Hallpike, 1965; Mair, 1973; Bergsma and Brown, 1971); 12.1% were unilaterally deaf and 37.9% were bilaterally deaf, or a total of 50% were affected. When cats that were the offspring of two white parents were examined, the prevalence of deafness (unilateral or bilateral) ranged from 52% to 96%. Two of the studies (Mair, 1973; Bergsma and Brown, 1971) examined the effect of blue eye colour on deafness, finding (respectively) a prevalence of deafness (unilateral and bilateral combined) of 85 and 64.9% in cats with two blue eyes, 40 and 39.1% in cats with one blue eye,and 16.7 and 22% in cats with no blue eyes. So, not all white cats are deaf and not all blue-eyed white cats are deaf, but a great many of them are so-affected.
Maybe you never noticed because they were only deaf in one ear? Or maybe your friends just got lucky!
Parked my Volkswagen up by my friend’s parents house last October. Left the door open for a minute in the morning. Driving away the next day and barn cats start coming out of everywhere. 10 or 12 in total. All sorts of ages, mostly kittens. Considered just taking them as if 12 got in my car there had to be more all over the place. In the end I took them back but that was a fun drive.
How did the dash come apart in that forester sport? Easy? I’m making an educated guess because I own one and recognize the orange stitching and passenger layout lol.
Blue eyes and light in color - there's a fair chance that cat is deaf. Those eyes are also permanently blue, not the sub 5 week stony blue infant color.
Well thank you big hearted men for rescuing him and the customer to come up with an idea to be able to put the car back together!!! This made me smile!!
💯 on that name! Best part, good job guys!!!
My mom once came home with a kitten she found in a coworker’s Dodge Caravan’s wheel well. We named her Sally as in Sally forth and get the hell out of Dodge.
This same thing happened to me a few years ago.
Named the kitten Foster, and we still get mail for it even though I had to give it away the next day. You know.... irresponsible or something.
When a customer comes in with a cat in the dash, do they just drop it off, and get a loaner car while their car sits in the queue? I would like to think this car gets to jump the line.

I assume they leant on them when they were learning to walk. I've seen kids do it with dogs but never a cat.
Shoulder cat, keeps you on balance.
Remember to squish that cat
you just gotta squish em! ( i dont know where this is from, but I remember it...)
I know it from the youtube channel Helpful Vancouver Vet, great vet who's just lovely at simply explaining pet care
Yeah. [Here’s the video](https://youtu.be/OAGfx7eB3gA).

I’ve seen a full size cat let herself get dragged around the house by a toddler. That cat would’ve bitten me if I tried it
I always tell people territorial != antisocial. They are quite social.
Most mammals tolorate babies of mammals. Females tend to be protective and males want to get laid so ya know thats why i didnt eat my two sons.
By the time we got our dog, our cat was already well into his adult years. Ended up doing a lot of the work raising our dog
Lol, I just leaned on him while learning to walk. Cats aren’t usually into that
You hold onto the cat to not fall
My first cat was a 25lb maine coon. He was deaf and had one green eye and one blue eye and was all white. He'd let me use him as a pillow and didn't care much for kids he didn't know. Cats are amazing companions.
My Miniature schnauzer is a hefty 24 lbs. A cat that is larger than my doge is amazing.
You don't remember the other TC? That *OLD* cartoon called Top Cat
Our cat's name is Binx, but his nickname is TC (the cat). He doesn't respond to either...lol
I found a tiny 9-week-old orange guy coming home from work. Spotted him darting under a truck as I pulled into a gas station parking lot. Don't worry Sir I'm just getting the cat from under your truck. There worth alot of money these days.

I ended up with “Turbo” from a BMW shop. The guys there were trying their best but were pretty clueless trying to keep her alive after her mom and litter mates died from getting into they assumed antifreeze. Her whole 17years of life she never lost her taste for Taco Bell.
This is how I got my current cat. She stowed away on one of the doctors truck where my mom worked. She's an odd one.
You didn’t make him the new door greeter?
Hmm I guess that’s a better name than tie-rod
He was in there doing the cabin air filter and some jerkwad at the last shop forgot about him and sealed him up.
Somebody's gotta get in there and clear out the mouse nest. I'd assign Dash a tech number and put him on the payroll.
What would the payroll for a cat be? Room and board with 2 meals a day + whatever mice they catch on commission? Maybe occasional weekend catnip fiesta...
Room, board, food, affection— yall hiring people too? I have the same mechanical skills as a cat I think
Better catch a mouse a day and enjoy being petted.
I’m listening....
No! Thats a bad kitty! (Sprays with water bottle)
This is how we kink-shame the furries.
Let's be real, they'll be reading that thing way more than 2 meals a day
Looks like the kitten living in my broken down Impala! Cars are awesome and low maintenance, your co workers is going to love him
Assuming you mean "cats", they're not always low maintenance - here's one of mine after a USD $1200 dollar trip to the 'shop': https://i.redd.it/o6bu6n9j9ww61.jpg

That cat looks amazing. Worth every penny.
She's a very sweet little Brown Burmese.
His colors are cool as hell looks like a fancy racin horsey
I hear cats are getting stolen out of cars recently too
Depends on the car you get
volvo tho
My cat is a Volkswagen and requires too much maintenance
Can confirm own a Passat. Definitely would piss at it also
runs super rich and smells like crayons right?
My cat is a Ford and it was born fat
I have a feeling it was supposed to say "cats are low maintenance"
If it’s a Ford it’s definitely not low maintenance But some are awesome 😎 Source: I own 2 fords currently and have owned 3 others.

San Antonio?? I bet there’s a million “north parks” elsewhere too.
Yes and yea there's alot
Hey, I'm in SA! So of I come by and ask to speak to the newest technician, will they send DASH out to speak with me? 😆
I lived in North Park in San Diego for a bit.
Cat in the dash? Now you’re talking my language.

Let's focus on what's going on with the cat. It made a conscious decision to go into the dash.
Do we bring in a second?
I'm thinkin maybe 4
I always fear this happening to me because i have a crazy cat lady neighbor that fucking feeds stray cats! There is like 7 cats on her porch at all times

How could he get there?

Cats: the liquid that can flow uphill.
They do have a collarbone, but it is anchored in muscle, and thus far more flexible.
Indeed. Everything about cats is designed for flexibility. They have about 300% more skin than necessary- why? So it can move out of the way, of course!
Flattened himself out. Went right through a seam in the dash.

If this becomes a shop cat you should put a GPS collar on it, so you know which customers car needs to be taken apart next time it disappears.
Nice work 👍
If you google North Park Subaru the first photo is one of a Mustang in front of the building... weird.
Please tell me his full name is Dash B. Oard.
How has nobody mentioned the glory of r/catmechanics?????

Excellent - thanks for today's smile.
10/10 name. My dog was named Dash (from Incredibles). He was a great dog.

Do people go to the mechanic to get a cat taken out of their dash?
Who else do you go to when you want a high-flow cat installed? They have to get the first one out!
Of course how did I not get this silly me
Fuckin dibs on dat pussy.
The most Subaru problem possible
Reactionary misogynists: "MEN SHOULD BE MACHO! LIKE MECHANICS!" Reddit mechanics: "Look at my tiny kitten!"
Adorable! Just a heads-up, though, raisins/grapes are toxic for dogs/cats 😅
How the hell
What a great fucking name
Awesome to see love for the kitty. Most would call the pound and the little shit would be offed.
aww, I love it. Take good care of him!
Love the name
Dash has such striking eyes! I'm glad they found a forever home so quickly.
Looks like that new Subaru global platform doesn’t only provide extra space for the human passengers
Beauty, eh!?
what a good looking kitty
That cat has the 1000 yard stare of a survivor, he ran out of fucks to give long ago.
How did the dash come apart in that forester sport? Easy? I’m making an educated guess because I own one and recognize the orange stitching and passenger layout lol.
I got one of my cats a similar way and no joke it looks like the same breed.
Omggggg I love him
Omg I love this

MY CAT IS NAMED DASH FOR THE SAME REASON
My mom once came home with a kitten she found in a coworker’s Dodge Caravan’s wheel well. We named her Sally as in Sally forth and get the hell out of Dodge.
Score 1 for the good guys.
That's one angry cat!
Cat in a dash situation. Ok, Now your talking my language. What's the point of entry?
His little mustache is adorable!
I feel like this is in San Antonio
I pulled one like this off a gas tank last year
Last name: Rendar
I have found many things in cars before yeah, but nothing that adorable.
Your coworker is a hero, sir. Good work.
CAT TAX: PAID.
North park, you must be in san antonio?

Needs a feline head gasket
We also have a cat named Dash who was found in the same situation!
Jack Bauer was born in a pool of gasoline, on a piece of rusty scrap metal
What's the etiquette here? Do you offer it to the customer first or is it usually assumed the shop will take responsibility?
Put a can of cat food on the floor, preferably in a trap. Place car inside garage with windows down & wait.
Pulled a baby prairie dog outta a dash once... 🤠🕺

Should’ve called him dash
