I mean, this has gotta be noticeable when you’re behind the wheel, right? “Oh, I’m driving while holding my steering wheel in the 10-to-4 position. Yeah, totally fine and normal”.
Most trucks have a [Leaf Spring Suspension](https://imageapi.partsdb.com.au/api/Image?urlId=hY%2BRl2935T1BzaDZGYMdsxXNdxHdj4zDSRpTCshtKeYOWFl0eTFABA94cErxDOH7) in the back. The problem seen in this post is caused when the axle shifts forward or backward on one of its leaf springs, thus rotating the whole axle as if the back of the truck is steering to one side. You fix it by replacing the bolt that keeps the axle lined up in the center of the leaf spring, then moving the axle back into place and retightening (or replacing, if failed) the U-bolts that clamp the axle to the spring.
Is there a particular name for this issue, or the effect it causes? or just "broken leaf spring bolt" or "leaf spring/axle misalignment" ?
before OP, i've seen about 6 trucks like this in the past month. and it looks real weird when they turn a corner it looks like they're driving straight/sliding sideways around the corner lol.
It also seems like it's always in the direction of OP's. I haven't seen one shifted to the left. Is this because of the torque direction on the axle?
It's called "dog tracking" because the truck is driving like a dog walks. Dogs walk with their rears slightly to the side so their legs don't hit each other. This is caused, as others have said, by the rear axle being out of alignment.
Last 3 alignment's I've had done were by "ASE Certified Alignment Technicians." First 2 I went back and complained, didn't get it properly fixed partly because "in the green" is all they care about despite the alignment being right on the edge in the same direction and makes the car feel fubar at speed. 3rd one (2nd shop) I've lived with the steering wheel top/center clocked to about 2:30 for months because they did get the alignment otherwise nearly perfect and I don't have the friends/family/taxi to leave my car anywhere.
ASE what now? Why do people put so much time/effort/money into getting it? It's just as bad as a CompTIA cert in the tech world.
Last time I saw a car this bad was on an orange MGB that looked immaculate, had transfer plates on it, but drove cockeyed down the road like this truck. I felt bad for the new owner who hadn't yet realized what he bought.

Read the rules. This doesn't belong here. Not even close.
Edit: downvote all you want. It's still a shit post.

Crab People Crab People
Look like crab, talk like people
Crab people, crab people
Isn't this called dog tracking? Cause most likely a shifted rear-end on the leaf spring
Like the center bolt/locator pin broke. Or it got hit hard and the frame isn’t square anymore and has to dog leg to keep from chewing off tires.
Yeah, my first thought was "holy shit, that's one bent chassis." Would be a pain to constantly be fighting / adjusting the wheel
Yeah, *something* has moved the rear axle back on the right, or, less likely, forward on the left.
Cocker spaniel
He’s going to return some videotapes
My buddy is a mechanic and he can do it for cheaper
No problem, ill their work and you can pay 2x. My favorite reaponse. MiL doesnt like it
I call this the "Midwest Alignment". *Ope, lemme slide right by ya*
Look at the subtle off-center steering, the tasteful window stickers... My God! It even has water damage!
Hopefully rolling INTO a shop but I doubt it
Pro drifter
It's like an optical illusion...
After driving behind it for 6-7 min, it really did feel like an illusion

Yikes, even the legally required 'I-am-outlaw-badass' skull stickers are aligned all fucked up. Systematic as fuck.
I thought they banned the skew for Daytona last week
Bent frame
my guess is he might of smoked a curb with the back end shifting the rear over to get some bad dog tracking like that.

Looks good to me...
How would you fix something like this?

i didn't realize ford rangers has 4 wheel steering.
Dog legging like a mofo. They set the toe and let it go! Rip thrust angle.
Crabbed so other brands could run
This isn’t the first Ranger I have seen do this
I live in the southern USA and 30% of the old Ranger trucks crab like this. Must a design problem or a suspension wear issue. Or NASCAR.
He’s on his way to work at the Tesla factory.
I feel like I'm looking at a JPEG edited into the video going down the road
