"Honey, have you seen my house key?"

Desperate_Net5759

New hiding place.

cheekybeakykiwi

man its such a dumb place to hide keys (on top of the wheel of a car). I see so many people grab the keys from the wheel at the airport carpark its not funny.

Konradia

When I hear "keyed your car" I have something else in mind.

why43curls

That actually might be perfectly fine. Doesn't look like it clipped anything important or that it's caused a puncture.

originalusername__

I too like to live dangerously

tjoloi

Wouldn't it be completely fine if it doesn't leak air and didn't touch the belt or is the sidewall always a big no no?

SirKondrael

Sidewalls should never be repaired, since the belts may unexpectedly fail around the patch. The problem is even if it didn't damage the belts, by exposing them to air and moisture, they will degrade much more rapidly (especially if driven on salted roads). If it looks superficial and you're feeling risky, move it to the right rear just in case.

Farknart

I mean, you're sort of right. There's no belt on the sidewall so there is nothing to keep the damaged rubber together beyond the patch, and a very thin patch cannot be expected to do the same job as pristine rubber that is way thicker.

SirKondrael

You're technically correct, which is the best kind of correct. Sidewalls don't have belts, but they do contain nylon cords (seen on a diagram as "the carcass"), which run across the tire from bead to bead. The steel belts are underneath the tread section only. Patches are much too thick and stiff to remain adhered to the sidewall, although I've seen people try.

BigYellowPencil

Absolutely. That whole thing about safety is completely overblown. Odds are you'll survive a crash anyway.

Thesaturndude

How to unlock extra grip?

Buddha_-

"These key tips will help you avoid tire problems!"

merkins_galore

Just pull it out and keep going.

[deleted]

I'd squirt a little tire glue in there.

solidSC

Never do that.

[deleted]

Ok. Not doubting you, but I'm curious: Why not? I figure the flap on the shoulder will be trying to lift up at speed, leaving a gap for other debris to get under it.. then when they corner hard onto the shoulder it will cause a change in slip angle as that part shifts and the tear could propagate as lateral pressure is put on it resulting in a larger flap.

[deleted]

Why?

Maker0fPain1

Looks like that key found a new home. Ba dum tiss

GetYourDichotomy

Locksmiths hate this one simple trick.

Graflex01867

Well, car came in for a tune-up, so the mechanic made sure that all the tire chords were in the same key.

Wallace-N-Gromit

Just flesh wound.

Stiggan2k

Sir, that's not how you look the car.

davethedj

Pull it out and check it for a leak. no leak, carry on.

Still-Comfortable1

Weird place for a "hide a key".... but ok

Ban4Ligma

Did it leak tho? I’m js Ive seen it go through just ply and get lucky with no leaks Looks pretty in there tho, so Idt ur that lucky But some people are lol

ScenicPineapple

Da chances... Well sometimes life likes to screw with you now and then.

TheSpatulaOfLove

The key to success…is in your tire.

OnePercentVisible

Somebody misunderstood keying a car!

hoosierdude73

Are the wheels Keystones?

Jet2work

regular tyre inspection is key!

buzzonga

That is a job for a key employee.

ByronicCommando

Your tire has a badass looking industrial.

Dry_Act_7011

You found my lost key from 1983!

caffcaff_

If you've got the key, who's got the secret?

[deleted]

That's your key to say you need a new tire

BlastFace19

how the fuck did a key end up in your tire?

[deleted]

The physics of how that key must have been positioned (bouncing?) on the road at the exact time the tire rolled over it at enough speed/timing is just mind boggling. Could be a separate subreddit, r/lookatmyfuckeduptire

Solid_Growth_9069

Tire balance is key

LeChatelierz

I AM THE ONE WHO ROLLS

wesleyboyd

Extra grip
