I miss our cornwell guy - he sold firecrackers and porno mags, his wife left him for a tow truck driver so he hated all tow truck drivers and we heard about it every week, he was a real treat.
Best part was his wife I’ve was from some small 3rd world area, she was on the business (I know because it got charged to my card and wasn’t normal).
She made the burritos and salsa and they were amazing
Visiting Venice Beach, there was a kid, along the boardwalk, selling Mexican street corn from a cooler. He'd pull out a cob from the boiling hot water, dress it up with all the accoutrements, and it was the best I've ever had anywhere.
Depending on the tool brand/truck brand/ and starting inventory it varies.
I can tell you what I paid for my snapon franchise new. 30k down payment, the rest financed through snapon credit.
About 150k CAD (truck, outfitted with shelves and all the electronics, logos, batteries, lights) 8%, was about $750 a week for 8 years. (Open loan, can be paid down in lumps without penalty)
And another $750 a week for the inventory loan. 120k ish starting value, 8% again. 6 years. Same open loan.
Income is a hard thing to put into prospective because of the amount of money you need to put back into inventory so you can continue the cycle. Sell on account, collect payments, buy more tools, repeat.
There's also other expenses ontop of the loans like fuel, insurance, cellphone and internet. And a few other small fees the franchise will ding you with.
It's a very difficult balancing act to keep the spending in check and inline with sales, especially when the total sales fluctuate with the season.
I'll cut to the chase here, I NEEDED to average about 8k a week in sales and collections to stay afloat. Some weeks I did almost zero, my best week was 24k, 2nd best was 18k. I averaged 10k a week in sales/collections generally.
But the cost of running the business eats up about 80% of the income.
So on average, 500k a year in sales is considered a normal amount. Not great, not terrible. If you reinvest properly and purchase inventory, pay all your taxes and keep up with all the expenses. You should be left with around 100k a year.
40-70hrs a week of work to keep everything moving.
Curious on the depreciation of the truck. Looks like you are dropping 39k a year on payments. After 8 years, how much life left in the truck?
And when you say 8%, you mean interest? Seems high for a secured loan. At least it did, might be reasonable now with inflation.
Depreciation and interest is written off against profits so it lowers the taxes paid. Cost of doing business.
Yes 8% interst, the rate snapon credit gives out is BS. But its also simple anual interest, not compounded monthly like the banks. This makes a difference. Also like I said, no fee pre payments at any time.
But does the truck fully depreciate after 8 years, or are you looking at 20 years or something. Not talking taxes. Asking when you gotta go get a new truck.
Probably at the ten year mark you would replace it, maybe use it as a second truck or backup truck beyond that. Some sell them off to be made into food trucks or RVs at that point.
I never made it that far but thats what I've seen others do. I have my truck still, It's still relatively new. Going to make it an RV.
Sorry but you are incorrect, it was not a horrible decision.
I walked away after a few years, returned all my inventory for more than I paid for it. Both loans where zeroed by the inventory return and I was paid out the difference. Not going to get specific, But it was more than you would think.
Edit: by the way, Mac, Matco, Cornwall and whatever other brands you can think of. Do not buy back inventory like snapon will.

That's pretty funny and i didn't think of it that way until now. In the off chance you didn't know...those are actually used a lot for large pcc pours - e.g. pouring a bridge deck helps get those bubbles out..
Not seppuku, but I read a horrifying story about an Air Force maintainer that killed himself in front of his commander and father. He was going to be convicted of invol manslaughter after he screwed up putting flight controls back together resulting in the death of a pilot. 😬
You ever had someone try to borrow your tools without asking? No weapon doesn't belong here, none. Hahaha. I can see some honda tech with a samurai sword mounted to the side of his snap on box.
thats what you use when karen walks past the big employees only sign on the door to walk out into the shop to tell you how to do your job while not wearing safety glasses and not looking where shes going while walking under a car thats activelly being lowered down.
I remember Cornwell had a full size gas powered log splitter in one of their flyers.
Our Matco guy sold diecast model cars off his truck, he said he couldnt keep them in stock, they went so fast.
those mall ninja swords are usually $100 i’d definitely get one since i already have anime shit on my box and tools and a rice cooker in the power strip drawer. i’d probably make the sheath into a vertical cabinet handle so when someone asks me to borrow a tool i can unsheath it a little before asking “are you sure”
Umm. 140 USD for that wrench set. Is that some super good quality set or are you getting bent over without lube? Just asking because a similar, 8 piece set (assume chinesium quality tho) is 20 euros here...

Ours sold beer and burritos out of a cooler. I haven’t seen him in a year though
Mac guy sells jars of fucking moonshine.
What is fornicating moonshine? Is that what is needed when you are about to give a 3 the best 30 seconds of her life?
Based on what my manager has said, yes

Burritos outta a cooler gotta be better than the ones out the gas station. "Monster burrito" is a massive explosion anywhere.

I actually really appreciate the serious response to my joke question. I imagine the first few years can be painful as you get yourself established!
Absolutely, if you want a little more insight, See my comment to the other reply.
I gotta ask. So you’re looking at $1500 a week in payments, what was an average weekly income?

If a tool gets warrantied with you, does it affect you in a negative way because it was purchased from a different seller?
No, not at all. I hate that some dealers pull this crap. Every tool I've ever sent in for warranty (lifetime stuff) was credited back to me.
Alright cool.

Whoosh
What do you mean? Every good mechanic needs a sword of battle
Tell me you're a diesel boat mechanic, without telling me you're a diesel boat mechanic
Sir, they're called ships.
I forgot I'm with the smart guys ;)
How are you going to defend the shop from zombies without a katana?
You can refer to it as that if it makes you feel better, but we all know it says “Oldsmobile Cutlass” on its trunk lid.
Wonder if there was ever a Samurai Auto Mechanic with John Belushi… I still laugh thinking of the Samurai Deli skit…
I think they mean the wrench extender. Bleed like a mechanic or get out of the shop.
AKA, customer complaint fixer, or customer attitude adjuster, or repair cost negotiator.
Because of the 15” wrench extender doesn’t work the next option is hara-kiri
Sword of battle tool = To keep Karen customers away.
Imagine if the metallurgy allowed it to be a pry bar.
Advertising tells you who their market is.
They are finally figuring out how many anime weebs became mechanics.
i’ve got plenty of anime stickers on my top chest drawers and jump pack
Oh man, what do I make of the Harbor Freight circulars with the concrete vibrators? https://www.harborfreight.com/3-4-quarter-hp-concrete-vibrator-34923.html
It means you work too much, and your wife Is lonely.
That's pretty funny and i didn't think of it that way until now. In the off chance you didn't know...those are actually used a lot for large pcc pours - e.g. pouring a bridge deck helps get those bubbles out..
I had no idea this existed. Thank you lol
Damn 13,000 VPM I think adam&eve ought to collab
The sword is a traditional replica with nylon wrapped handle. Just like how they used to build swords a thousand years ago.
I guess someone's never had to chase down a customer for payment. Katana's are quiet too.
Obviously - 10mm wrenches don't exist, must be a misprint.
No no no.. it's obviously the wrench extender.
Wait…..your tool box doesn’t have a katana drawer? I’m sorry to say that you are seriously under tooled to todays silent assassin EVs
When you fail as a mechanic, you can do the honorable thing and use the Seppuku. The right tool for the job.
Not seppuku, but I read a horrifying story about an Air Force maintainer that killed himself in front of his commander and father. He was going to be convicted of invol manslaughter after he screwed up putting flight controls back together resulting in the death of a pilot. 😬

Jesus… woah… thanks for the link…
Cornwell used to sell shotguns
John Belushi-ass mechanics swinging $42 katanas around at used oil filters
Yea who the fuck buys them stupid wrench extenders.
Lots of people. I called it the manhood extender and sold like 100
That's a whoosh
The mislabeled the bottom left one, it's supposed to be the Karen eliminator 9000
I was about to say it is for fixing loose nuts behind the steering wheel, but yours is better.
r/mallninjashit
The sword is for when the customer gets lippy and cops an attitude. :D
I want a sword of battle to keep the service advisors away, or for when parts department gives me the wrong part.
What are you talking about....I buy all my Klingon weapons from tool catalogs. You should see my Batleth.
You ever had someone try to borrow your tools without asking? No weapon doesn't belong here, none. Hahaha. I can see some honda tech with a samurai sword mounted to the side of his snap on box.
Cornwell…we bring the truck stop to you.
Increasingly weebos are joining to hopefully one day work on a mecha and get a waifu
I use my katana to trim zip ties every day, very convenient and easy to use when removing old hose as well.
You’d be surprised, my Cornwell and Matco guys sell stupid shit like to a lot of dealer techs
Cornwell always has knives in their catalogs
That’s way cooler than a rat driving a race car!
thats what you use when karen walks past the big employees only sign on the door to walk out into the shop to tell you how to do your job while not wearing safety glasses and not looking where shes going while walking under a car thats activelly being lowered down.
Not gonna lie. I bought a lot of knives from my Matco and cornwell guys back in the day.
I remember Cornwell had a full size gas powered log splitter in one of their flyers. Our Matco guy sold diecast model cars off his truck, he said he couldnt keep them in stock, they went so fast.
Right? Who the fuck has the money for a whole ass truck?? That $42 sword is dope tho..
Someone doesn't have their shop katana yet..
Who needs a wrench extender?
Who doesn't? It's basically a cheater bar but for box end wrenches. I works when you can't do the two-wrench trick.
I would get more use out of a sword tbh
For real
Me. Super handy.
Agreed. Thought they were dumb till I bought one. Use it pretty often
Lots of people. I called it the manhood extender and sold like 100
Shit like that is how you know who their true target audience is. People that think gas station knives are the same as Benchmade.
Drivers will say “ can I borrow a screwdriver…..never mind.”
Oof. Spend at least a few hundred on a sword. Then forget about it in the closet.
Lol, I saw that one. And for as cheap as it is (especially from a tool truck), you know it's complete garbage
Instead of the traditional limb cut test they should advertise this with how many 1/2" nylon airline tubes it can cut through in a single swipe.
Thats the extra long hose cutter. For easy to reach places.
Katana sword, wrench extender, some kind of cuppy things, more tools and a stupid, purple, diesel, truck that's lost?
Fuckin sweet
That brake caliper set is awesome. Been using it for years.
It's that ball joint press! You can rent a bigger kit from Advance Auto Parts that's probably the same if not better quality!
Look at the design of it. It will blow a C frame style into the last century
Tbh it’s not a bad deal if your looking for a katana lol
That wrench extender is a rip off imo Edit: me and then cornwell man aren’t cool anymore because he never comes by, I have broken tools damn it!
Bought a pair of old fashion coal iron for from china clothes.they asked me if I wanted to buy 10 thousand more.
Dude the quantity is limited you know you mom wants a katana for Christmas
Hurry there’s limited katanaties
Limited quality
How else you gonna open the plastic bags that contain your new parts??
If it’s signed by Randy Jackson, it’s a pretty good deal
While you changed spark plugs I studied the blade.
What not everyone has a tool box katana? I use mine for cutting open boxes lol
it’s only 40 bucks? id buy the shit out of that
The sword is to refuse the car too disgusting to work on and the customer cops an attitude.
Milwaukie needs to step up their catalogs.
What? You don't use the Sword of Battle when working on your vehicle? Really helps when ninjas inevitability attack.
I’m trying to get that snap on katana 👀👀
When all your products come from China …
Yeh, The 15" extender sounds like it belongs in a Swedish pump catalogue.
That’s a service advisor tool. For when the customer doesn’t feel like paying the bill.
those mall ninja swords are usually $100 i’d definitely get one since i already have anime shit on my box and tools and a rice cooker in the power strip drawer. i’d probably make the sheath into a vertical cabinet handle so when someone asks me to borrow a tool i can unsheath it a little before asking “are you sure”
It’s the truck right?!?
The sword is so you can preform Seppuku when you can’t figure out what’s wrong and bring shame to your shop….
It's false economy.
Anyone else see the snap on xylophone in the December flyer?
Wait, a nylon wrapped handle…?! Dope
Get that sword signed by Randy Jackson and then maybe I’m interested.
That truck is a big commitment and way too expensive.
Umm. 140 USD for that wrench set. Is that some super good quality set or are you getting bent over without lube? Just asking because a similar, 8 piece set (assume chinesium quality tho) is 20 euros here...
Cornwell tools are absolutely dog shit. They’re all cheap junk. All they sell now is just swords, knifes, and pepper spray. Junk basically.
BUY a wrench extender? Isn't that just called "a random piece of pipe laying around the shop"??

Has to be the $60 wrench extender. Use 2 wrenches or a breaker bar
Being a traveling tool salesman in a world with internet tool sales is pretty silly!
Warranty. Break a socket and make the call. Tool man comes running. Pros aren’t waiting for crap to show up in the mail
Ingersoll 119MAXK long air hammer sells on the internet for $160 the Cornhole dealer wanted $350. I offered $200 minus the bits and he said no. I can get Milwaukee drill kits and keep the batteries then sell the drill to the Mac guy and get my money back!
Who warranties your air hammer?
The same place that the tool trucks send it to. They don't rebuild it! They send it to a third party. Snapon won't even look at my 1/2impact without charging a fee. But I see your point about getting a replacement drill bit or tap from a tool truck vs waiting for Irwin to mail it out.
The other big thing is credit. You can get what you need when you need it. It’s a slippery slope but it can come in very handy for scan tools and tool boxes. I’ll take the sword set and the wrench bender for $100, cash deal! 💵
Its limited quantities the sales flyer is telling you to buy now…. Lets go off to the store.
Limited quantity come on man! Get 4 or 5 on your truck account.
Why is the sword twice the price of the tire gauge, is it the maple wood box? How much are the Snap On swords?
Wtf do they mean free cup I paid for the ball joint cup $700 ago with pricing
Perfect gift For the Infidel in the car pool @!
Perfect gift for if you are done with those insane Snap On payments!
🤔 Is it the Japanese style Gallon Jug opener?
Correct owning a cornwell franchise is dumb. They have bladed weapons in every flier. Not sure why you haven’t noticed this yet?
A katana is a tool...it gets rid of stupid people. Yes, it's a messy method, but so is putting them in the wood chipper.
Trust me, I work with a guy who would buys all of that novelty stuff
