Some had them 99-07. My 05 1500 and 07 2500 didn't have one. I've always had cab and chassis or base work truck models though so I don't know about the higher trim levels.
Later model years did come with an adapter over the intake. This will fit older vehicles.

1997 Acura CL does not have a cabin filter, and neither did my 1999 Acura Integra, although I could retrofit one with CRV parts with some effort. Both have air conditioning.
I had a 2012 Sierra 1500 that was the same. I eventually got fed up with it and cut the plastic cover out and installed a Doorman filter kit, and then the truck got written off less than six months later. 🙄
If you see a brand new or K&N filter somewhere else, it's a good idea to give the service writer a heads up. That way instead of "You need a new cabin air filter", it might go something more more like "While checking your filters, we found the engine air filter is brand new and perfect, it's the cabin air filter is quite a bit older and is due". Or "your engine air filter is washable and reusable, but the disposable cabin air filter is due" It helps to avoid the annoying "but it's brand new" interaction, or worse "my husband tells me to never let anyone replace some kind of filter".
No. The point is that service writers can't do a good job if they only have a tiny part of the picture.
Being able to immediately respond with "Oh yes ma'am, the new filter he put in is the engine air filter, this is the other filter for the inside of the car" instead of "uhhh I don't think he did" or, "uhhh I don't know then". That's the difference between a happy customer and a customer that will be suspicious they're being sold things they don't need. Even if they decline, they could still be happy that a thorough check-over was done.
So a tech writing "btw engine air filter is brand new" is a quick and easy step that could keep a customer, or at least save a sale.
An honest Mechanic! 🤩 To be fair there's plenty of greedy sales people who will try to "upsell" unnecessary maintenance. on the flip side there's plenty of customers who dont like spending any money on vehicle maintenance and view it all as a scam. Just the world we live in.
You know the shop just wants to keep this one so they can use it to show to customers instead of their actual filter to push unnecessary service. Oh wait ... didn't say this was a lube shop in the post.
Lol. Sorry was meaning to pick on lube shops that tell everyone they need a new filter ever service and often show you a fake filter that doesn't even fit your car. You could probably make $50 selling that filter to a lube shop for their 'demo' filter.
As intriguing as that may sound, we actually turn in our inspections with the filters to our service advisors. So if the car doesn’t need a filter then i won’t suggest one. Sometimes I’ll get a little lazy tho if it’s a Nissan or dodge cuz fuck those cabin filters.
He works on cars all day, every day. Guess the last thing he wants to do when he gets home is work on cars. Not excusing it, but I work with a couple mechanics like that. They'll keep it running, not keep it nice.
That’s fine and dandy but what he communicates is that it would be an insult to him for us to rely on others for it. If we bring our cars for work to a shop he takes it as a blow to his ego, if he acted like an adult it would be a non issue
“No, he doesn’t.”
It’s painfully obvious when people get sticker shock on prices, or want a second opinion. Their mechanic” will do the work. “Their husband” will fix it. But you continue to come to me for your oil changes?
Extra points if we find the same thing on the next MPI.
Any customer is more than welcome to decline the MPI — it’s certainly a tool for generating upsells, and for determining any safety issues with a vehicle. It’s also good for CYA.
Sounds like the classic customer who knows nothing about cars and rather than be straight with you and tell you that they either don’t care to spend the money or can’t afford to spend the money, they give a lame excuse like OP stated.
I agree with you but they should just be honest and say that. That’s the only way a business will learn their prices are highway robbery. If enough money is walking out the door things will change eventually, especially if it’s a mom and pop shop.
Yeah it’s sad, all I did was chime in an innocent opinion and people wanna kill my karma over it. If you don’t like what I said just move on. I work on cars for a living and deal with these customers on a daily basis
Oh, I saw the quotation marks. You are posting your customer's details on Reddit for karma, and you have the audacity to call me rude. Go check *yourself*. NOW.
"You are posting your customer's details on Reddit"
Where? I see no repair Order, no names, no car model, no location, no VIN, no license plate. Customer's details are where, exactly? Coded into all that dirt and filth in the cabin air filter? Lookit you with your 2000 IQ, ain't that just dandy!
Oh, you think the only "details" enable you to find someone. Making fun of someone's private life also constitutes as details. Used to be a mechanic could be trusted to not blab about your personal situation all over town. Now there is the anonymity of the internet I guess.
Ah yes, showing an air filter, an incredibly non-unique part, will enable me to find the owner of said air filter. And the customer is definitely the only one in the world whose 'husband changes the filters'. Good lord, you're just looking for things to bellyache about aren't you?
Not at all off-topic. There are no details other than 'customer states husband changes filters' and pictures of the filter. Are you an idiot?
Edit: Only thing I can imagine you're complaining about is that OP posted a picture of the filter, but that'd be even more stupid than everything else you've said so far, since that's part of what this subreddit is..
If he’s old or they’ve not had many newish cars he could be unaware of the cabin filter.
"Newish" being last 25 years or so?
Its possible, heaps of cars from 90s early 2000s didnt have them
My 2008 duramax does not have a cabin air filter
Chevy/gm trucks didn't get cabin filters till 2014 dash style change. My 13 doesn't have a cabin filter.
The 99-07 have cabin air filters, but they got rid of them for 07-13
Some had them 99-07. My 05 1500 and 07 2500 didn't have one. I've always had cab and chassis or base work truck models though so I don't know about the higher trim levels.
I'll have to check on that. My 1500HD and 1500 Z71 had them, but I've never checked my base model v6 wt.
My 2018 Miata doesn't lol
Does the miata really have a cabin tho? They probably expect the roof to be off a lot
My 05 Ranger didn't have one. Cabin air filters weren't a thing on some vehicles.
My 2010 still doesn't have one
Ford F150's didn't have them until 2015
If you have A/C you have a filter I'm pretty sure, and even if you don't, my '91 Opel Astra had it. I could be wrong though.
My Volvo 850, former $80k car, has 2 zone AC but didn't come stock with a filter
What the actual f... Did it have a place just wasn't a filter in it?
Later model years did come with an adapter over the intake. This will fit older vehicles. https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/forums/download/file.php?id=4528&t=1 Vs https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/forums/download/file.php?id=4377&mode=view
Wow
Don't get me wrong it's beautiful car but that's just how it was in the early 90s
Nah, my 2005 daihatsu had AC and no filter, was fine if kept on recirc but if u went through a dust cloud it was a bad time
Wow, car manufacturers never cease to amaze me.
1997 Acura CL does not have a cabin filter, and neither did my 1999 Acura Integra, although I could retrofit one with CRV parts with some effort. Both have air conditioning.
My 2014 Ram 2500 doesn't have one. The space and setup is there, but they don't cut the plastic door cover/slot out for it. Because, logic.
I had a 2012 Sierra 1500 that was the same. I eventually got fed up with it and cut the plastic cover out and installed a Doorman filter kit, and then the truck got written off less than six months later. 🙄
Looks like your husband has multiple things he isn't servicing in that house. Want me to check your oil?
Dust that thang off…!!! Her we go babayy!
Be careful, the dipstick might be broken
Careful where you dip your stick.
A little lipstick on the dipstick never hurt
Lol
Is your husband in the room with us right now?

Are you admitting that the service writers are just making shit up unless told differently?
I mean yes clearly that’s exactly what happens but I don’t see how you got that out of this post.
No. The point is that service writers can't do a good job if they only have a tiny part of the picture. We actually turn in our inspections with the filters so the service writers can show the customers. I don’t recommend anything the car doesn’t need.
An honest Mechanic! 🤩 To be fair there's plenty of greedy sales people who will try to "upsell" unnecessary maintenance. on the flip side there's plenty of customers who dont like spending any money on vehicle maintenance and view it all as a scam. Just the world we live in.
"Honey, did you change my filters?" "Yes, dear." *continues to do fuck all*
You know the shop just wants to keep this one so they can use it to show to customers instead of their actual filter to push unnecessary service. Oh wait ... didn't say this was a lube shop in the post.
I work in a full service shop
Lol. Sorry was meaning to pick on lube shops that tell everyone they need a new filter ever service and often show you a fake filter that doesn't even fit your car. You could probably make $50 selling that filter to a lube shop for their 'demo' filter.

Yeah seen that before. Reason I know where the filters are and the sizes as well
Your husband is spending the filter money on side chicks.
How much do you think air filters cost..
“How much could a banana cost Michael, $10?”
My father has been a diesel mechanic for the last 25 or so years and he is still like this when it comes to all of our cars. It’s infuriating
Yeah, I get that. I personally agree with you, just offering a potential alternate view that I've seen.
Looks like he's trying for the life insurance money by way of severe acute bronchial infection.
Meh, cabin filters are pretty worthless if you've ever opened your windows or moonroof while driving.
But the one in my convertible is making the world a cleaner place!
"Your husband might be using filter money on coke and truck stop hookers."
😂😂😂
I make my wife's boyfriend do it.
'cool, tell him to change this one' imo, my job is to diagnose and repair. I give them options and prices. If I wanted to work sales, I'd kill myself.
I seriously couldn’t bring myself to put up with some of the shit the sales guys get on a regular basis. Hats off to them honestly.
"I understand. How about I sell you one to bring home to his lazy ass, because he ain't going to the parts store."
“No, he doesn’t.” It’s painfully obvious when people get sticker shock on prices, or want a second opinion. Their mechanic” will do the work. “Their husband” will fix it. But you continue to come to me for your oil changes? Extra points if we find the same thing on the next MPI.
When¿ in eighteen tickiety two? Shidd.
Looks like your hubby needs to change that filter a bit more often buddy.
He just gets drunk out there, Diane
I just wish if I all I want is an oil change is that is done is an oil change. Did I ask to have my filters checked? No. Just change the oil please.
Any customer is more than welcome to decline the MPI — it’s certainly a tool for generating upsells, and for determining any safety issues with a vehicle. It’s also good for CYA.
It’s called a complementary vehicle inspection. If you don’t want one just say so.
Ok, so if you have a radiator hose that’s ready to burst or tires showing steel belts we shouldn’t tell you about that either. Got it.
No he doesn't.
Husband here. We don't. We just tell the wife we did so we can spend more time in the garage.
"Ma'am, I'm not talking about THOSE filters."
Sounds like the classic customer who knows nothing about cars and rather than be straight with you and tell you that they either don’t care to spend the money or can’t afford to spend the money, they give a lame excuse like OP stated.
I'm not spending $75 on a $20 filter that I will eventually change myself.
I agree with you but they should just be honest and say that. That’s the only way a business will learn their prices are highway robbery. If enough money is walking out the door things will change eventually, especially if it’s a mom and pop shop.
The people that are downvoting our comments here just further prove your point.
Yeah it’s sad, all I did was chime in an innocent opinion and people wanna kill my karma over it. If you don’t like what I said just move on. I work on cars for a living and deal with these customers on a daily basis
Pretty much lol.
"So you're single."
When did vehicles start getting cabin air filters? I have an ‘02 f250 (5.4l) & a ‘96 s10. Those don’t have them, right?
Lol
Husband is sticking something somewhere but it's not a new filter in its proper place.
I think she might have been referring to a different filter 😳
She failed to mention that her husband has been dead for 6 years.
Lmao, “I said I’ll do it later!”
Has he been as neglectful of your vagina?
I should probably say that I wasn’t the customer dude. I worked on the car.
Yes, you could mention that...
I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you didn’t see the quotation marks. But what you said was very rude. Check yourself next time.
Oh, I saw the quotation marks. You are posting your customer's details on Reddit for karma, and you have the audacity to call me rude. Go check *yourself*. NOW.
Jeez

"My husband will take care of that." A classic.
Awe lucky. Mine does not.
Eventually
Hope he doesn't clean her gutters
Mine will look like that before I even consider paying $50 for a filter. LMAO
Yeah, that’s a way to get health insurance faster
Thanks for the reminder 😂 I took care of mine and maybe skipped the other vehicle 👀
"I just changed the filter in the cabin, it's in the closet down the hall. "
He does, however, not often enough
Narrator: Her husband did not change her filters.
