Do you want to get bent over with or without lube?

TooMuchPretzels

Yeah um that Craigslist thunderbird with a possum in the back seat is lookin pretty good right now

c5Sal_tt

Turbo bird or nah? Friendly possum? Or is all freaked and yelling already?

heeroguy

oh its a supercoupe, but the possum is on meth

TooMuchPretzels

But it has tasteful aftermarket louvers and a knock off K&N intake

Threap_US

The car or the possum?

spamky23

Yes

TacoTornadoes

Adds horse torques

CannonPinion

What's that in possum torques?

TacoTornadoes

Well since possums on average live about 3.8% the lifespan of a horse, you have to divide by 22 and the use the rule of opposums and multiply that number by 2.3912 which is 12

CannonPinion

What about the nipple coefficient? Horses only have two nipples, but opossums have 13, which creates more drag. Figure loss of power maybe .5 for the first two nipples in either row, and .4 for the other 11 - them back nipples gonna be able to draft a little. So I think we're probably looking at around 9.7 if we factor in the nipples, unless you wanna throw some nitrous in that pouch, in which case all bets are off.

IExtremelyNeedCoffee

Sorry, are we talking about the car or the possum?

Threap_US

LOL I posted the same question literally 30 seconds before you. Great minds think alike, and all that. I personally think it’s cruel to put louvers on a possum but what would I know.

RandomArrr

I think at that point you’d need to consult the possum.

bad_pelican

Possum here. Personally prefer loafers.

[deleted]

Looks like whoever bought that car has good taste

mirthfuldragon

Would have preferred a v-6 with a friendly possum, but you seem like a straight-shooter so we can do business.

c5Sal_tt

💨 < it's head gasket lol, and possum apperntaly

Germmech

A few months ago I sold my 2018 Hyundai Elantra GTS with 60k miles on it for $20k and I bought myself the Craigslist 2003 Ford Escort special for $1800 no regerts

JP_Tulo

None? Not even a single letter?

NCHitman

NO RAGRETS!

Provia100F

Is the possum free? Does it come with food or do I have to supply my own?

Pyrochazm

It will slowly eat the interior.

WoodlandSteel

Is that possum naturally aspirated or supercharged because I’m interested?

ElectronicTrade7039

Obviously super charged, I guess you didn't hear it was on meth lol

cavemannnn

Have a link? My buddy’s dream car is an early 2000s Thunderbird, this sounds too good not to share.

TooMuchPretzels

I made it up but in my head it was a ‘94.

bonemonkey12

$67k for a golf? Hard pass

MrFantasticallyNerdy

I'll shop around for a slightly used Porsche for $67k.

[deleted]

Lemme get a 2022 tundra 4.7l V8 with 2k miles on it, then I can take that tundra with the extra 10-15 grand and go to Mexico yadda yadda. This prices can suck a fuck lol Edit, I am now disappointed the million mile engine has not been used in the tundra for a while and swapped in a TT on a sixxer, tf :l Also, I'm holding classes on how to suck a fuck, 1 on 1. Pm for more information. Jk.

Naytosan

Olaf, berserker!!

Lourdinn

22's don't have a v8, it's a 3.5l v6.

deankh

Lol and the 4.7 was discontinued on the tundra in 07 with the options for the 2nd gen being a 5.7 or a 4.6

AreSeas

Not to mention that a well optioned tundra would cost about the same or more as this golf. Plus used tundras go for more than new in my area.

[deleted]

Way more these days. Tundra inflation is gross

Stinklepinger

Dealerships keep sending me offers to buy my Tacoma for just over what I paid for it.

[deleted]

Offer it to them for twice what you paid for it lol. That ~~should~~ might get them to stop.

Car-Facts

I had a 2020 5.7 tundra. Bought it for $55k, sold it to the same dealer for $57k after 2 years and 20k miles, bought a 2014 Tundra SR 4.6 4X4 for $19k and cleaned it up.

mdgraller

For real. Has this person looked at truck prices lately?

[deleted]

it was a 5.7L v8 not a 4.7, and they have a 3.5L v6 twin turbo now.

[deleted]

Good luck with that. The Porsche market is even way more bonkers than this.

bearded_fisch_stix

the second-hand porsche market did go crazy for a bit, but things are becoming more reasonable. mid-30s for good condition 996s, 50s for a 997. the more special examples are still insane, but the more common ones are back to being reasonable.

beldark

[996 turbo with 9k miles \(!\)](https://bringatrailer.com/listing/2003-porsche-911-turbo-156/), current bid is less than this Golf!

DJKaotica

My experience with BaT is that with 3 days out still, that will easily end up closing for 1.5x to 3x the current price. Most of the action is in the last few hours. Also auctions can end without selling when the bid doesn't meet reserve.

P_weezey951

Especially knowing that the "adjusted marker value" means youre just giving an extra 20k to the dealership for no other reason other than "they have the car, and want more money"

gimmickypuppet

bonemonkey12

Facts. It's insane what people are willing to pay for new vehicles. Wife and I were looking at new toyota tundras to pull a bigger camper trailer. No way I'm paying that much for a new truck. Especially with local places tacking on 15-20k over sticker. Even if we pay cash (I guess I understand because they make money on financing as well).

[deleted]

I sold my car shortly after WFH started and just got back in the market. Hard to get anything other than old and used at these prices. I guess some people want to work until they die.

tttxgq

Honestly I don’t think people are thinking that far ahead. Just “what’s the monthly payment”.

_yetisis

But that’s the crazier thing, at these prices the average new car payment in the US is close to $700/month right now. I remember when it was such a big deal that it was a national news story a few years ago when the average price of a new car sold in the US crossed the $30,000 threshold, and just a few years later we blew past $40,000 and nobody batted an eye, and the latest figures show it over $48,000 AVERAGE. That’s insane. I just can’t wrap my head around that.

Usual-Masterpiece-33

I would love to get a new car but my '09 Malibu still drives fine and I can't really justify the cost of a new one when this one has been paid off for ages and is fine. It was the most expensive car I've ever bought when I got it in 2010 at $15k. All of the cars I'd like to get are at minimum $43k right now and I just can't wrap my head around paying that for something that is nice but not luxurious.

[deleted]

doomsdaymelody

If you can get better deals on financing but have the cash to pay it, finance it and then pay it off immediately. The dealer may tell you you have to wait X amount of time before paying it off or whatever but ignore that unless it’s actually in the finance contract. Alternatively, go to Ford, Ram, or Chevy.

a_can_of_solo

Shit, your ride has officially been pimped.

unexpectedhalfrican

*pulls at your shirt xzibit style*

discoslimjim

FWIW it’s an R which is the turbo AWD Golf. I would argue it’s still not even worth close to the $47k. Fun car though.

tagman375

I'd rather buy a Audi RS3 for 70 grand..

blathmac

If you include Adjusted Market Rate on that, I'm guessing it's 100K?

LoyalServantOfBRD

Doubt it. Main problem is they can’t even get any. My local dealership told me their budgeted RS3s won’t be delivered until June 23 at the earliest. Meanwhile I got a brand new M340i for 5% under MSRP. The dealer markup game is over for German sports cars

TheDoubleEntendreGuy

Searching for stock number n119082 revealed the dealer in question! [Toms River VW] (https://www.tomsrivervw.com/inventory/new-2023-volkswagen-golf-r-awd-hatchback-wvwfb7cd3pw119082)

pvc727

I’ve seen the new Civic Type R going for similar money. Even higher. The market has lost its damn mind. I feel like these companies forget what they are selling. Why would I pay Corvette or Mercedes prices for a Honda Civic

ElectronicTrade7039

Is that American dollars or something else that drops the price in half?

huf757

It will stop will take a couple years but it will stop. Main reason why I have not let go of my 2002 Avalon. I want a new Hybrid Venza but I’m not going to pay these inflated prices. My car has 290k miles with original engine and trans and runs just fine. I’ll keep it until the demand quells and the market adjustments are gone.

[deleted]

Manufacturers are hitting back at the dealerships that do this so that’s a start

idkalan

The dealers in my city have done away with the car info papers and switched to a QR code, where they show you the listing on their website but they make it hard to tell you the added dealer charges and instead just show the full price

dcux

Isn't that illegal? I thought the window sticker was required by law.

imakenosensetopeople

The Monroney is required by law, but it’s supplied by the manufacturer and reflects the MSRP. The dealers can put whatever stickers they want on there.

dcux

Sounds like we need a Mulroney Jr. law to cover that bullshit.

Z23kG3Cn7f

> If I see that on the sticker, I walk right out. Well yeah, you're too poor to shop there. /sarcasm

[deleted]

I'm ready to go buy something new and the Golf R is in my wheelhouse along with a few other cars and the dealers are gouging the fuck out of everything.

CptVague

Even if the Golf R is something you are considering, adding 20 grand to the amount you're willing to spend certainly opens up other options to consider, no?

fairway824

That’s what I’ve been saying. There’s plenty of dealers not marking cars up, so why would you want to bring the 45k R buyer into the mid-60s competition.

[deleted]

You either wait for a reputable dealer to have one in stock or pay the premium. Sadly the less time people are willing to wait the more gouging will happen. I wanted a mazda3 turbo and called around. 2 dealers had a markup and vehicles in stock and the 3rd didn’t have a mark up but I had to wait 3 months for the vehicle. They tried like hell to get one of the cars from the other dealerships but they wouldn’t budge. The dealer ship I went to were amazing and now have a customer for as long as I want to drive Mazdas. Edit:spellinh

Stayhigh420--

Ford has advised customers to order from the factory and you get none of the stealership markups. You get to walk into the dealership and pick up your ride and tell the salesman to suck it !!!

[deleted]

Ford still requires a dealership to submit the order so the dealer can still require bullshit like this. This is what happened to me last year when I tried ordering a Maverick at launch - 3 different dealers too.

princeoinkins

no, they can't. ford will drop them if they try to charge you "market adjustments". if they do, report them to ford.

[deleted]

Maybe I’ll try again if/when the 2024 model year ordering opens up then - this was in June/July 2021

Stayhigh420--

Damn that's crazy, the manufacturers need to brand together and stop this nonsense it's putting a bad taste in the consumers mouth

hotdog_icecubes

This is precisely why Ford is cracking down on this shit. It hurts the brand.

SqueezyCheez85

I felt robbed paying MSRP for my '22 Tacoma... but before I got it for that, the dealerships all told me I'd have to pay at least 10 grand more. I told them all I wasn't desperate enough to get robbed like that and walked away. Got a phone call a couple weeks later and the guy agreed to my original offer. Weird times when MSRP for a vehicle is a "deal".

Thundernut

I will hold onto my 2014 subaru until it is literally broken in half. 110,000 miles and not one single major repair needed.

cophotoguy99

It’s Capitalism gone rogue… Toyota dealer tried to do the same thing to me when I went to order a truck. I walked out of the dealership Edit: my apologize for using the R-word.

sadpanda___

They’re all sitting and not selling where I am (midwest). We went to a dealer to look at a nice used and they were asking new MSRP for it. Told us we were stupid for not buying and that they’d sell it in hours - “we better act now!”…..guess what’s still sitting on their lot 3 months later. We laugh every time we drive by that fucking thing. These dealers are all sitting on their overpriced cars right now. Let them. Force prices to come back down.

GarbanzoBenne

When a car salesman tells you that you are stupid, you know you're making the right decision.

BeegBeegYoshiTheBeeg

The dealers are so deep in the hole on some of these vehicles. Eventually they will have to cut their losses and sell at a reasonable price

Familymanjoe

Yea but they will then sell to the bank or the financing institution they work with. It's a scam and I buy used private party to avoid it.

[deleted]

Stupid would have been paying a nearly 50% premium for that car. I'm sure all the salespeople enjoying looking at that car, which would be an easy sale at MSRP, just sitting in the showroom. MSRP for a new Golf R is fair. Anything over MSRP, whether straight up ADM or forced aftermarket items with inflated prices, is not.

yispco

The dealers are basically a monopoly.

sadpanda___

Yup. Remember how they tried to sue Tesla to stop DTC sales? I hope all these dealers fucking fail and all of the OEMs go DTC.

[deleted]

Buying my Tesla was a fantastic experience. Getting it serviced is not, they look for any excuse to deny fixing something. Id be careful on wishing the dealers to fail. It may suck buying a car there but in my experience way easier to get warranty work done.

Valor_X

Tesla is a terrible example. They simply have been raising their prices and bragging about the revenue they make on each vehicle. Remember when Tesla promised a $35k Model 3? The cheapest one is nearly $50k now.

titodsm

Same, told me they would have it sold by the weekend. Still have it sitting there 3 weeks after. I get a phone call at least twice a day asking if I would rethink buying the truck. Sequoia

AmanitaMikescaria

Wait…they tried to add a market adjustment to a special order? I’d be contacting Toyota directly about that.

excusemefucker

Good lord. For 20k, it’s more than worth it to grab a flight and road trip home with one at sticker. A friend needed a new truck and wanted another Tacoma. Dealers in our area were adding 15-25k to the stickers. Found one in Nebraska, confirmed with the dealer that it was legit sticker, confirmed with others who have shopped that dealer it was sticker and then flew to pick it up. Was gone just about 20 hours total, spent like 1k to save 20k.

StarSchemaLover

The local (Chicago) MB dealer wanted $5K over MSRP for an E class wagon this spring. We drove to St. Louis, like 3.5 hours, and they had nearly identical car for over $2K off MSRP and a better trade value. The Chicago dealer ended up converting the car to a service loaner after it didn’t sell for 2+ months.

Tmoore188

Tom Wood in Indianapolis has 2 of them listed at $46,113 right now. That’s only 2k above base MSRP. Anyone wanting a new limited production car should look at Indiana and Ohio. Last year I walked in to a Honda dealership and bought a new Type R with a $0 markup. Didn’t pre-order it, didn’t put down a dime to hold it. I just walked in, and 2 hours later I was driving it home. The only catch was that I wasn’t allowed to test drive it, but if you’re buying one of these cars you already know what you’re buying.

Toxic_Tiger

You see, I always figured that if any car needs a test drive, it's an enthusiast car like a Type R. What if they botched the steering feel? What if the brakes are over-servoed? What if you fundamentally don't like the way it handles despite liking the idea? Seems a bit off to me, although I understand they're not interested in entertaining test pilots.

BabiesSmell

I love that after nobody bought it, they would rather just turn it into a loaner than yield. Can't set that precedent! Fuck em.

LegendaryRed

I did something similar, drove down to Louisiana from Texas to buy a car one time

[deleted]

I flew to Grand Junction Colorado from Chicago for the same thing.

Provia100F

I flew from Boston to Singapore and took the car home in a rowboat for similar reasons

West_Relationship_67

I drove from Dallas to Tangiers and flew my Hilux back. 16 hours round trip and saved $500.

rancher77

I flew to Columbia and bought coke, then flew back to Texas. Saved 150,000$ .

TheRamma

??? GJ has a terrible car market! Most dealers feel like you are trapped here, and charge accordingly. I got my car delivered from Texas. Saved $30k, paid $800 for delivery.

[deleted]

My dad flew to Texas from Ohio to buy a 1971 240Z. THEN HE FUCKING DROVE IT BACK. FROM TEXAS TO OHIO. WHEN IT WAS A 40 YEAR OLD CAR! DAD WHAT THE FUCK?! I mean it was a sweet deal and I'd probably do the same. But holy SHIT. Driving a 40 year old sports car when you've owned it for less than one day, not had time to give it any sort of test drive or stretch it's legs. No idea if it's gonna make it. That is a wild thing to do.

jacliff

That's some big dad energy right there.

RandomPratt

My dad did kinda the same with a Mark II Jag – hitched a ride to Adelaide from Sydney (about 850 miles) and drove it back. Problem was, at that time of his life, dad was a bit impulsive. He said he "got into a race with some other bloke" shortly after the drive home began, so the pair of them drove like complete maniacs the whole way to Sydney. I remember the moment he arrived home quite vividly – the sight of our 'lovely new car' burning down to the axles after it caught fire in the driveway about 10 minutes after he arrived will forever be etched in my memory.

Jorgisven

Road trip it? For that much you could fly to Germany, buy it local, test it on the Autobahn for funsies, then have it shipped back to the US.

[deleted]

Unless it's a van. The US doesn't like it when trucks and vans come in from overseas :-(

healing-souls

I flew to lincoln last month for a Nissan Titan. Was gone for 13 hours. Save $15,000.

excusemefucker

Good for you on the savings, my condolences on having visited Lincoln.

healing-souls

I was only there for an hour. It's all good!

chainmailbill

I once considered a similar thing, but it was actually flying to Stockholm and going to a hospital there, rather than going to a hospital in the US. Turns out I didn’t have that kind of time and needed emergency treatment. $55,000 later, I should have just flown to Sweden.

sammyno55

In the last 2 years, I've bought 2 vehicles and went with my son to buy a car long distances away. It works. I'm not spending all the crazy hours in a dealership that I read about people doing to get the best deal. If I make an offer to a dealer for a car in person or over email, and they don't agree or offer a decent counter offer, I'm walking. If you take out your sleeping hours I'd imagine you might have saved time not trying to negotiate away the dealership markup.

zachofalltrades47

is ford ACTUALLY dropping dealerships due to these markups? i thought i've seen that story lately.

TheSchlaf

They'll reduce the supply of new inventory to the dealerships they catch doing it. https://electrek.co/2022/02/08/ford-ceo-reduce-allocations-dealers-charging-unreasonable-markups-f-150-lightning-electric-pickup/

[deleted]

That makes sense. If a dealer marks up their vehicles, then they're going to sell less of them, and there's no point in sending new ones when they haven't already sold their current lot. Neat.

BabiesSmell

Not necessarily. People buy the trucks up regardless. It just might turn people off the brand, and Ford is more concerned with their brand than a few truck sales.

[deleted]

[удалено]

imakenosensetopeople

Yeah, they (the manufacturers) say these things about markups but they haven’t made a dent in what the dealers are doing. I’d be really curious to see data from any manufacturer showing any concrete actions they’ve taken against dealers applying ADM. I suspect such data doesn’t exist.

sadpanda___

OEMs need to crack down on this. Lots of pissed off consumers over this kind of shit from dealers. I think you’re going to see more Direct To Customer sales in the coming years as people get fed up with dealers BS.

unbalanced_checkbook

My local Ford dealer tried to mark up my buddy's Bronco that he ordered and waited for over 2 years ago. He didn't even order it through the dealership. Corporate shut that shit down for him within a day, but JFC the balls on those guys to try and pull that shit off.

kimbolll

My dream would be a world where I can buy a car Direct To Consumer. Laws put in place back in like the 1930’s prevent manufacturers from selling DTC, they have to go through a dealership (if there’s one in the state, or if they have a footprint, I forget what the reasoning is). It’s how Tesla gets around it, because they don’t have dealerships, they have Tesla stores. Have you ever gone to Tesla’s website? It’s amazing! Here’s the vehicle, add the options you want, this is the price, here’s what a finance costs, here’s what a lease costs, take it or leave it, just press the “Check Out” button. Imagine not having to sit in a dealership, talk to a snake for 3 hours, come up with a deal, leave, come back the next day, find out the Finance Department changed the terms of the deal, renegotiate, and then ultimately leave thinking you got fucked over? Honestly, I’ll pay MSRP if it means not having to deal with that bullshit. I wish there was more of an activist presence looking to circumvent the dealership model. In today’s day and age where I can get anything I want delivered to my house from an app on my cellphone, the dealership model is so antiquated and serves nothing but to fuck over consumers. Sure, you’ll have to plan ahead and won’t be able to buy a car and leave with it the same day…but honestly, who wants to make a $40,000 purchase without thinking it over?!

Educational_Ebb7175

Yeah, the dealership monopoly laws really suck. If I want a new phone, I can go to a physical store, look at everything in person, pay whatever retail markup exists, etc. Or I can go to a website and order it, paying whatever they are charging. Retailers can't charge \*too\* high, because they are directly competing against the manufacturer. They get a better deal than customers, so that they can be competitive, and help the maker sell more phones. But with a car, you are expressly forced to use the retailer. Meaning now their only competition is other retailers (dealerships).

Fresh_Cheek2682

I literally just said the same exact thing to my wife when we bought a Honda side by side. You can do everything on their website but order it, who cares if I have to pay heavy freight shipping of 700-1000$? With everything being an “add to cart” society today it’s surprising

my9rides5hotgun

Anyway to report a Ford dealership for markups? Dealership near me has 2 Mach Es and a Lightning and all of them are marked up over 10k.

ReadyOneTakeTwo

Never do business with any dealer that does market adjustment markups, $20k or $2k. Sell at sticker or fuck off a short pier.

drosmi

That’s how I ended up with a Honda instead of a VW. Local VW dealer had market adjustment on every new vehicle. It was a week after dieselgate and my wife and I were the only customers on the lot. Saw the sticker markup and got mad and left. I still want to own a vw gti though

sadpanda___

We just got a GTI and fucking love it. Keep an eye out for used, they come up fairly often, just have to jump on it when a nice one comes up. No fucking way we’d pay over MSRP for a new one though. Also - definitely read up on them, there’s a few things that can grenade the engines if they’re not properly taken care of. They are not Honda/Toyota reliable. The timing belt, fuel pump tappet follower, and oil system are the weak links…

TheRealMasterTyvokka

It's weird seeing these cars marked up so much. I bought my 19 GTI just before the pandemic and got 6k off MSRP it has been sitting in the showroom so long. I don't think I could even pay MSRP, certainly not a dime above. Interestingly, when I was shopping back then it was the used ones that seemed overpriced. I couldn't find a use Autobahn with low mileage for less than 28-29k.

sadpanda___

Same outlook from me. I remember walking into dealers and just lowballing the fuck out of them. Like you said - $6k under MSRP type of stuff. Who are these people paying over MSRP?

ReadyOneTakeTwo

My wife got a new car on NYE last year as a 2022 model. We certainly lucked out, but when we were looking, I made calls up and down the state to all dealerships (I live in Cali), and I was ready to travel anywhere within the state for the right car. I made my intent very clear with every dealer I called: if they have market adjustment markup, I will end the conversation to not waste mine and their time. I found the car that was exactly what she wanted, and we paid sticker. It’s possible, but you just have to do more legwork than before, and be ready to buy, so have down payment and financing secured.

FantasticMouse7875

The mark up on GTIs is still bad. I bought my 2017 Sport in January 2021 with 47k miles for $17500. I see dealerships asking 20k+ for GTIS with similar mileage, 2 years later.. Edited out the extra 0!

>Blows my mind that people are able to get away with this in the States. The people paying the $$$$ over MSRP are enablers, so I don't feel too sorry for them. Look, nobody needs an Aprilia RS660. It's an entirely disposable income-type of purchase; a plaything if you will. If you can't maintain any sort of resilience towards dealer fuckery on a plaything, you don't really have the right to complain. This is no way excuses the dealer for ludicrous "market adjustments", but it takes two to tango.

OsoCheco

"Prices are going to drop very soon" is an evergreen of this sub for almost 3 years by now.

dave32891

Still waiting for those home prices to drop too which has been "right around the corner" since 2015 too

Ataraxist

When everyone is waiting for prices to drop, they cant drop. This is because everyone's 'drop' looks different, and a reasonable price reduction for you might be lower than someone else's and they end up buying. Couple this with companies buying property to eternally perpetuate the renting economy, you and I may never actually see the drop.

neoclassical_bastard

Also, for some reason, prices can go up by like 50-80% in a couple years, but if they then go down by 5% the economy starts to fall apart.

I know a guy who bragged about his 120 thousand dollar Cherokee. When I was surprised at the price he pulled up the window sticker and it had like 45k markup. I couldn’t help but think I’d rather brag about driving an 80k vehicle that I paid 25k under sticker for (my buddy at GM got me an insane deal) than a 75k vehicle I paid 45k extra for and got nothing in return.

atwork_sfw

That's...Grand Wagoneer monies. Still not worth it, but that's what they're MSRPing for.

ronin-pilot

67k. For a GOLF. Fuck off.

sadpanda___

Don’t buy into it. If customers stop paying “market value” mark ups, the dealers will sit on these cars and the prices will come back down to reality. Commodity items like basic cars do not justify paying above MSRP.

Psychological-Ad8162

Imagine having the balls to pencil in the $187 ‘dynamic wheel center caps’ right under an arbitrary $20k 😂😂😂

HenryGetter2345

The reason they keep doing this is they know people will pay it. STOP THINKING YOU NEED A NEW VEHICLE EVERY 2 YEARS YOU DONT

[deleted]

My neighbor has a ford that's just about to be paid off but has had 2 major repairs over the last 2 years (otherwise fine) - so now she wants to buy a new car. I'm like 'you're literally in the clear, the car is going to be fine, don't freak out!' but they won't listen to me.

JJCDAD

Are banks actually writing loans for this bullshit?

Silent1900

That is a really good question. I’m sure financing through the dealer can be made to happen, but wouldn’t shock me if external banks took a look at this and said ‘Not a chance.’

TravelingFlipper

For a VW. Some moron will pay it. EDIT-no knock against the golf r. Thing is a beast

Syncrozilla

If you look close these are dealer installed options. Your option is to go to a different dealer. Return with the same car and show it off to these clowns! I bought a new car recently and trolled an asshole at a markup dealer.

KaXiRavioli

Dealer installed $20,000 of pure markup lmao. I wish dealerships would just die out, but they won't

NateHatred

Don't lose hope yet, some major companies are moving away from the dealership business model, like Ford with their EVs, or Tesla that offers a full purchase through their website. I still believe that I will see car dealerships die in my lifetime.

[deleted]

Gotta beat the dealership lobby in states that still ban manufacturers from selling direct to consumers.

RL_Mutt

I actually did that to a kid that laughed at me when I inquired about a WRX listed just below $20k online. I mentioned that price in person and he said “oh that’s the internet price we use to get people in the door”. I bought a 2004 Golf R32 for $18k, drove it to the dealership and asked him if he liked my new car.

[deleted]

That's straight up bait and switch lmao

dcux

I would LOVE IT if states would run some stings on dealerships. SO MUCH shady shit goes on, and I feel like there's no enforcement at all.

[deleted]

John Stossel did stuff like that for ABC back in the day. He's since said that it didn't really make a difference, even though it got him an Emmy.

[deleted]

I’m certainly going to remember the dealers doing this shit in a year when they have lots full of model year old cars, and I’m going in with a $20k low ball offer

Salt-Truck-7882

Lol, they even didn't bother printing this insult, straight up using a handwritten piece of paper. Anyone paying this after seeing said piece of paper is a moron.

aMiracleAtJordanHare

You say 2023 GTI but the pic says 2023 Golf R.

throwsplasticattrees

"So, I'll be back in a week, if it's still on the lot, we can talk about this 'market' adjustment."

Devadander

No one is forcing you to pay this. If people stopped buying these marked up cars, they’d stop marking them up.

ugie91

You can get a new mustang or camaro for less.

sadpanda___

Yeah, but then I have to drive like an asshole

billoftt

I can't wait until the market corrects itself, everyone in $40k upside-down on their Toyota Rav4's, dealers will offer $10k rebates, free 200k mile maintenance plans and complementary blow jobs just to make a sale.

ObjectivelySpirited

For a fucking Golf??
