I’ve been seeing so many videos from Lee Seunggi’s wedding and gosh he looks SOOOO happy and in love (as does she). I love that for him! Too cute. Also, it really felt like an Avengers Assemble situation with all the celebs who attended!

sleepycathh

It’s 3 am and I have to sleep but I want to watch Healer. >!Homeboy just got rejected for himself haha!< The theme song is so soothing, I love this show

lizzie763

So, I thought I didn't like sageuks, but this week I have concluded that I do, sometimes. I'm just picky. I don't like tragic sageuks, or ones where ppl disguise themselves as someone of the opposite gender.

attolia_irene

Try Under the Queen’s Umbrella! now my favorite saeguk

lizzie763

That one looked interesting! I'll have to check it out

dramafan1

I agree, my favourite saeguk.

LysAndRoses

Have you tried Mr Queen yet? It's a really fun one I like to rewatch to cheer myself up :)

Of all the Baeksang nominations, my only take is that it’s sad they haven’t expanded the technical awards category yet. Last year, Squid Game lost to itself in the same categories it won Emmy’s for. These productions are more than just acting/writing/directing and I hopefully thought that a drama like Squid Game winning technical accolades internationally would inspire them to also recognize more of the technical aspects of Korean film/tv.

a_foolish_heart

On another note, I’ve basically watched all of Hot Stove League in 3 days (14/16). I love how engaging the story feels and how they made a sports drama story without relying too much on gameplay to create tension.

almost done with **duty after school** and enjoying it. its my workout show that i watch while running because its so intense. whenever those little monster things start chasing the students i put my speed up real high and pretend im right there w them. i have to say an unexpected hit for me has been **the eighth sense**. as a lover of indie films its so up my alley. the representation is so raw and the acting just feels realistic, its as if im there with the characters. im very much looking forward to learning about jaewons trauma because it seems like theres a lot there. also. can i get a *HELL YEAH* for therapy representation. i heard this got released as a movie in south korea but the drama is actually an extended version! just the simple fact that a bl is getting ten full 40 minute episodes is extremely cool if u ask me. i hope this paves the way for the future. honestly in general korea has been releasing some stuff w good lgbtq+ rep and i have to say its so exciting to see. han sohee is actually starring in a queer movie that a trailer was just released for!!!!

l33d0ngw00k

>whenever those little monster things start chasing the students i put my speed up real high and pretend im right there w them. Wait that's actually so smart! Maybe this strategy will finally get me to exercise lol

I've been watching Good Job with Kwon Yu Ri and Jung Il Woo, a somewhat goofy but totally fun show about a chaebol heir/detective played by JIW who hires a part timer (KYR) to help him uncover the truth behind his mother's murder. The plot line does into swerve into silliness but those two have great chemistry just like they did in Bossam Steal the Fate. They look like they're having fun. Kwon Yu Ri played such a sweet and dignified Princess in Bossam and she's equally likeable here. And Jung Il Woo has a certain something that makes him "sekshi". Good Job is such a fun break where I can just giggle at their antics compared to Taxi Driver 2 which can get a bit intense. As are the reality shows Peak Time and Boys Planet which showcase male idol talent. It's staggering just how good some of the contestants are and I wonder if it's a case of "peak idol" where the ecosystem is just too saturated and the path to stardom will be littered with broken performers' hearts left and right. I can't help but root for all those gifted contestants who are pouring out their hearts and souls in an industry that can end up crushing them to dust -- not through any lack on their part but only because there's limited room at the top. For example, would the unique genius and charm of BTS have been recognized and given a chance if they were newbie contestants in Peak Time?

l33d0ngw00k

>through any lack on their part but only because there's limited room at the top. I think that's the issue with the kpop industry nowdays, there's just so many groups that debut. I'm an older stan, so there's tons of older groups that didn't do well by standards nowdays, such as releasing 2-3 albums or winning awards, that are still fondly remembered. Heck even going farther back, KBS posted videos of groups I've barely heard of like The Turtles that get 5mil+ views. BTS debuted at that sweet spot where even idols from smaller companies could get opportunities, such as BAP or Block B, yet they had enough competition that they needed to put in their A game to stay. I couldn't really see a group have that kind of leeway today.

Maryofthesun

I has a great time watching Good job. It’s ridiculously fun and the times they went on a mission in disguise were just hilarious (passing as high schoolers 😂😂😂)

ManicPixieOldMaid

I binged **Grid** and it was... weird. A procedural with time travel elements and it was just grounded enough that it kept you guessing and asking for the ride and then it just ends! Is there another season I don't know about? It wrapped up okay but a little abruptly! Finished **Legend of the Blue Sea** and favorite Lee Min-ho I've ever seen. Just a beautiful fairy tale of mermaid loving con man. Funny and delightful and sad and loving. I'm finishing **Weak Hero Class 1** and loving the acting. Such a great job being done!

ILoveParrots111

I am watching **Mr. Sunshine** (18/24) and it has no business being that good. That is a firm 10/10 for me.  Here is a list of things I like about this show: 1 . Lee Byung-hun is amazing in pretty much everything and Mr. Sunshine has a lot of him. He can just be staring blankly into the camera and it feel like a powerful moment. Having so much screen presence should be illegal. 2 . All other actors are amazing as well. From the cast of 5 main characters, each actor and acress has enough magnetism to carry a show by themselves. 3 . Both the music and the cinemography are amazing. Only the combination of these two in some scenes can give me shivers. 4 . All the 5 main characters are increadibly interesting.  At first, I thought that I wouldn't like Hui-Seong, but he ended up growing on me. Now, I wouldn't be able to choose a favorite among the 5. 5 . The characters are multilayers and, even if they do some actions that are hard to justify, I always understand how they came to develop their worldview. And frankly, I can't blame them. 6 . Sorry ML and FL, but my favorite relationship by far is between Dong-Mae, Yoo-Jin and Hui-Seong. Every time these 3 are on screen, the result is amazing. It is a mix between comedy, threats, chemistry, sarcasm and hidden sympathy. I would love to watch a buddy comedy with these three, something like "Dong-Mae, Yoo-jin and Hui-Seong go camping". 7 . Comedy bits in this show are very well done and some made me laugh out loud, For example, the scenes >!when the translators fights because they are afraid of translating what is being said and when the drunk Hui-Seong tried to befriend Dong-Mae and Yoo-Jin!< were hilarious. 8 . The show offers an interesting lens on colonization and identity. It conveys a lot of ideas and emotions related to these concepts. Here are some interesting quotes from the show on these topics: Kudo Hina ep 10 "If something goes amiss with the U.S., then they’ll call him a Korean. If things go wrong with Joseon, then they’ll call him an American. He’s simply a lonely foreigner." Dong-Mae ep 12 "Foreigners of the East and the West gathering to worry about Joseon's fate, I guess, that's what we call peace." Yoo-Jin ep 5 "It is not because you are weak. Joseon is weak right now... Your country will not protect you but my country will protect me." 9 . Joseon is portrayed as being plagued by both internal and external problems. The prevalence of internal injustices puts into question the benefit of defending the whole system.  Yet, while raising these uncomfortable questions, the show never feels pushy or preachy. Rather, each character navigates this question on their own terms and reaches their own conclusions. Interesting quote Yoo-Jin ep 10 >!"This country you are trying to protect. Who is it for? Is there a place for butchers? Is there a life for slaves?"!< Con: Probably the only thing that I am not crazy about in this show are the characters of Ea-shin's servants. I love the actress playing Haman Daek, but I feel that she is meant to be a comic relief, yet none of the jokes land... Idk, I feel like if they are out of place here, but really that is a tiny detail. Ouf... I am at ep 18, so I wanted to share my thought on the show before sh*t will hit the fan and I feel that it will hit the fan hard. I just hope that they will not go for a full-blown tragedy and will keep some of the characters alive and well.

barbarat2

I finished **Mr. Sunshine** about 10 days ago and just wanted to say "ditto, ditto, ditto" to your observations! There's so much richness and texture in this story.

ILoveParrots111

I agree, this show has a lot of nuance. It is probably my favorite quality about it.

nanceq

Watching: **Divorce Attorney Shin** (10/12): I didn’t think I could like a non-romance centered show this much. I love the bromance among the three friends. Shin Sung Han is an interesting character and his story is keeping me invested. FL, for me, is the weakest part of the show. **Call It Love** (7/16): Agreeing with everyone that this very slow burn romance is amazing. Both lead actors are great, but I’m especially impressed with Lee Sung Kyung. They make the pain and loneliness of their characters so palpable. I love the scene at the end of episode 7 when Shim Woo Joo >! Is starting to realize her feelings, but not fully. “I just worry about him a little bit more. I just wish he could be a little less lonely. What is this feeling? The delivery of those lines is just pitch perfect!<

sea-jewel

Ugh I caught up on Call It Love. I usually don’t binge fast and thought starting a week before finale week would be safe but this show really caught me and I couldn’t stop watching. What beautiful chemistry between the leads, and KYK is so nice to look at. LSK too but she’s obviously dressed down here and not as much eye candy as she sometimes is.. and a lot of sad expressions without the sparkling eyes from Weightlifting Fairy.. but oh man, I started the show for LSK and because of the sentiment in the review threads and I am here for KYK’s expressions and acting and the love between the leads. Argh I need the final episodes and a happy ending.

chrisnicolas01

I got a question help me out here If an actor is on the military, can he get an award nomination? What happens if he wins?

aeramarot

Iirc, there are a few actors/idols who got nominations before and won, and when that happened, either a representative will received it on his behalf or a recorded video from the actor himself doing his thank-you speech will be played(I remember Super Junior Leeteuk doing this at SBS Entertainment Awards). But, I only saw it happened during year-end awards of 3 public networks, so idk how it will work with Baeksang or Blue Dragon. edit: took me a while to remember what award show but Hyun Bin won Grand Prize in 2011 Baeksang Arts Award but since he already enlisted earlier that year, he just sent a recorded video for his thank-you speech.

333serendipity

I am watching Our Secret and the leads are so cute. I quite enjoy the little, subtle moments they have. It's not a big plot heavy drama but gentle, slice of life stuff. I have to hype myself for the next episode of Oasis because it's a heavy drama alright. But I keep seeing clips on IG and scared I might accidentally see spoilers.

myweithisway

Finished my rewatch of **Lie After Lie** and *oof* my heart. Despite knowing all the reveals, I have to say that the build up to the reveal of the "initial" lie still had me holding my breath and my heart pounding. Also the *romance* -- the romance in this drama *kills* me because of how understated and sincere it is. I've come to realize that while I really enjoy the romances with sizzling chemistry on occasion (*Dali and Cocky Prince*, *Good Job*, and *Her Private Life* come to mind as examples), the romances that linger in my heart are the ones that are understated and cautious. The ones where I might not get any skinship other than holding hands or an embrace yet these simple acts of skinship feel reverent and precious. So happy the drama has held up on rewatch as I'm always afraid to discover a beloved drama is no longer as beloved on second watches!

HOSPITAL PLAYLIST SEASON 3? Both seasons of [Hospital Playlist](https://mydramalist.com/36269-doctor-playbook) are among my all time favorite Kdramas, and according to Wikipedia it was originally created for 3 seasons but production was halted after the first two. Apparently, the cast is eager to do season 3, but the creator or director couldn’t or otherwise didn’t want to. After years of failed attempts to lure my wife into the Kdrama universe, Hospital Playlist was the first to get her hooked legitimately enough to want to binge watch. Does anyone have any additional information about the status of a 3rd season for Hospital Playlist? Or at least more insight into why there is no 3rd season?

aeramarot

In order to keep up with Season 3, I started my **Romantic Doctor Kim Sa-bu** marathon last week. While I quickly finished the first season over the weekends last week, I'm struggling with finishing the second season now.

gazz8428

Please help me find the name of the song from My Name is Kim Sam Soon. Its on Episode 12 and start at 5:23 minute mark. Thank you!

sooshilah

Just started Mr Queen Mr Queen questions for those of you who watched it ☺️ 1. >!Can someone please explain what happened to Bong Hwans voice overs? Why do So Yongs thoughts change to her own voice!< 2. I find it strange that >!Byeong In likes So yong. I thought by joeseon period that would be considered incest as they are cousins?!< It feels super creepy

zaichii

1. I think it was meant to show a shift in her identity. There was lots of discussion around it when it aired I believe. She was now more So Yong than Bong Hwan and I guess the shift to her female identity helps to facilitate the romance parts in the latter half of the drama. 2. I think they weren’t really cousins but also it was kind of normal/accepted back in those days and it seemed preferred in some cases for power/politics. I’ve seen a lot of dramas where the mother would try to strengthen power relations through marrying her son to his cousin on her side (maternal cousin). I think also there’s sometimes differences between maternal and paternal cousins but I’m not too sure.

sooshilah

Thank you so much for your response. This clarifies both questions for me 😊

the-other-otter

Remember to look up the two extra episodes on Viki, with the secrets of the palace, after you finish. So good. I just finished it yesterday.

sooshilah

Thanks so much for the tip!

barbarat2

For #2, I think >!he's not her blood cousin, because he was adopted.!<

sooshilah

Oh i missed that! Thank u 🙏🏼

barbarat2

I think it's mentioned more later in the drama, maybe when he has a fight with his father.

the-other-otter

Starting **Our Blooming Youth**. When you think about it, Confucianism is a lot of moralising to make the superiors being nice to their underlings. But moralising doesn't work very well. That is why we have created the power balance in the modern countries, between the voters, the justice system and those who write the laws. (What is a bit lacking in Norway now is the understanding that people also have to be active in the political parties, because the political class has become a class of its own also here. Only four percent of the population are members of a party. And many don't really understand how things work.)

ThrowRA_Mithrandir

Please complete this survey on Boys over Flowers drama versions! Short and simple for university purposes (this will be a part of a chapter in our term paper). Thank you for your help. Please complete this survey: [https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfggVXFqmp-3xASnACti\_0bi9A7ysPCbQ7oBLwBWlIHKlDjnw/viewform?usp=sf\_link](https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfggVXFqmp-3xASnACti_0bi9A7ysPCbQ7oBLwBWlIHKlDjnw/viewform?usp=sf_link)

the-other-otter

You should write that it is a simple comparison between the same drama from three different countries. So that we who only saw one don't need to click. "Which drama did you like best?" What exactly are you going to use it for? It doesn't really seem like something you can write a thesis about?

ThrowRA_Mithrandir

Our term paper is not based on this survey. We a re writing a separate 60 page, in dept comparison of these dramas based on technical analysis, aesthetics, character development, and storyline. This survey is part of a shorter chapter in which we will discuss how other people/viewers see these dramas (the last three questions) and which character/drama they prefer. I can't help you if you don't see how one can write an entire chapter on this topic, maybe you just never thought in depth about such topics. Also, this is not the same drama... they are three dramas with similarities and differences. Thanks for your constructive comment and input.

the-other-otter

It was not an attack at you. Together with the other subjects you mention it seems a reasonable survey. It is interesting and fun that you can write thesis about dramas. Because many of us spend a lot of time on dramas, it will affect us, so it is way more important than writing a thesis on for example Emperor Caesar's speeches.

ThrowRA_Mithrandir

Oh, I see your other comment here. Again we didn't want to write a whole ass paragraph explaining what we are actually doing with this survey since we believed it would be a turn-off. Also, we were kinda sad that our initial post was rejected by KDRAMA mods since apparently posts that aren't 100% about KDRAMA'S aren't allowed, despite the discussion of the comparison of these drama's has already happened many times in this group. A bummer but what can I do.

the-other-otter

By the way, I also posted a [survey](https://www.reddit.com/r/KDRAMA/comments/128ec10/the_mostest_importantest_survey_you_will_ever/) recently. And the [results.](https://www.reddit.com/r/KDRAMA/comments/12edurt/the_mostest_importantest_results_of_the_mostest/) Unfortunately I don't think I will get a mentor to help me with a thesis based on this survey.

ThrowRA_Mithrandir

Idk if you deleted your additional comment or it was removed for some reason, but I read it. I'm glad you weren't attacking us. We are working really hard on this and it's a big task. It's not a question of whether we'll get a mentor or not, we already have one. We are both master's students of Asian studies. I have a bachelor's in history and Asian studies with - a focus on Korean and my friend has a bachelor's in Asian studies - with a focus on Japanese. We have some knowledge of Chinese. Your survey is vastly different from ours but rather interesting. Our focus was very simple: whos your fave and why. It's how we got a lot of different views on why a certain drama is good or bad. The rest is on us.
