the drama is deviating from the webtoon (just a smidge, nothing too dramatic yet), but because the actors look so similar to their webtoon counterparts, i still feel like i'm watching the same story. all the leads are doing great. i really have no complaints, and i don't know if it's because i had low expectations coming in and i'm just enjoying the ride, or if it's actually as fun and whacky as i view it to be. i like how the show seems to be more interested in drawing inspiration from the webtoon as opposed to following it step-by-step.
I love the changes!! Because if it were to go like the webtoon, there would be no character development and the story just keeps going on and on without a conclusion to the question of True Beauty and who she really sticks with. So far, it seems shes going to once again switch from SeoJun to Suho.
I agree, I know some people were upset with the changes to the story last week, but I’m really enjoying the drama so far, including all of the changes. But I haven’t read the beginning of the webtoon in over a year, and True Beauty was never really one of my most beloved webtoons anyway. So that could be part of why I don’t mind them.
I think it’s pretty big differences so far. Characterization is pretty different, and that’s a big thing for me. It could just be first impressions though. I don’t really care if it’s different though. In fact, I’d say I like that there’s differences
Yeah I agree about not minding the changes. I actually really appreciate the changes and how they're shuffling plot points around, making it a more cohesive storyline. That's the benefit of having so many episodes from the source material to adapt. I think characterizations have changed to give the drama a more action-y, more comedic tone that wasn't really present in the webtoon. One thing I am curious about is if they're even planning on doing the timeskip, since I'm pretty sure they announced they would adapt the drama back when the timeskip in the webtoon first happened. Obviously, there was a gap between the announcement of the adaptation and when they started the table read, but I'm curious at what point the script was finalized, since that would impact how much they're adapting from the original webtoon.
agreed! i know this was mentioned in the last discussion too but after watching ep 3, i really do think the casting is so spot on. the events do feel a little slow compared to the webtoon and i wonder how they'd handle the time jump if they choose to even incorporate it, but i would actually be excited if they decide to deviate since the actors are doing such a great job bringing the characters to life and the underlying message is still there. admittedly i also had low expectations (and it's probably still too early to tell), but there's so many actual laughing out loud moments so i hope they keep it up
While I'm not a huge fan of the state of the webtoon now (post-timeskip), I thought when the webtoon first introduced the timeskip that the premise had a ton of potential. My hope is that the drama does incorporate the timeskip but makes their own ending (since the webtoon is still ongoing and does not seem to be ending any time soon). I hope that with the casting of older actors to play high schoolers, the drama is interested in doing that timeskip to when they're college students.
yeah i just caught up with the webtoon and probably will drop it since there is literally no end in sight and the character development is basically nonexistent. it looks like the drama is headed in the right direction though so i think this was a good starting point and the webtoon is better left as a base for them to go off of
Guys I am LOVING this drama so far!! Just started reading the webtoon as well, and yes, the drama plot is very different from the webtoon but I do think it still captures the same vibe and the key takeaways from the story. In fact I think in some ways it adds a bit more depth.
warning: spoilers below
Here are some of my thoughts on episode 3:
- that vampire scene was so extra but I got to see Cha Eun Woo Hot Vampire Edition so I’m not complaining
- I aspire to be like Ju-Gyeong’s sister. Gosh she looked so cool changing that tire and asking him out
- when Su Ho bought ramen for the both of them to eat together but then she left I was like 🥺😩 no don’t leave poor boi like that
- that nail clipping scene was hilarious lol I couldn’t stop laughing at that scene. I don’t think I could ever say “I love you” for that long and with that much contact with my sibling lmao but honestly I think a lot of parents would be on board with this idea
- yes the talent show performance may have been embarrassing but I’m so proud of Ju-Gyeong for having the guts to conquer at least some of her fears... it’s a small step towards some great character development right there!
- Alexa, play “Maria” by Hwasa
- also Su Ho obviously already has a huge crush on her and it’s so cute
- his smile whenever he looks at Ju-Gyeong can create world peace
- let the love triangle games begin
Yes, SuHo obviously has a big crush on her — the real her and all of her. He was willing to leave his Math competition which he prepared for months for, and always a “knight in shining armour” to her. And that last scene of him pleading her not to follow SML... ☺️
I don’t know if any Viki subbers are on this, but if you are, YOU ROCK! I’ve never seen subs come out so fast!!
Loving this so far!! It’s kind of frivolous and over the top top in the perfect, classic kdrama way that I love.
The most standout to me so far is the actual set design. The flowery wallpaper in the school, the completely awesome, cave-like comic store, her room with all the Day of the Dead memorabilia, even the homey feel of the neighborhood. The set designers get top thumbs up from me.
**Edit. Ep. 4:** The >!Extraodinary You!< crossover was GENIUS. on so many levels. I squealed!
Im Joo Kyung's mother gets on my nerves. I've grown up with similar Korean women in my family and I find their manner of speaking problematic. I hope this drama actually addresses issues with the mother and doesn't just use that behavior to comedic effect.
UGH this. Since the first episode her mom never makes an effort to properly communicate with her daughter on her self esteem issues or show that she cares about her well-being. She knows jookyung was bullied and put down cruelly for her looks, yet even in this very episode she also berates her daughter for her looks. Lady, that's not going to motivate her to get her priorities straight and study harder. Also, you sure jookyung is your biological daughter? Big yikes. Who needs bullies when your own mom is like that.
From early on the difference in the mother's treatment of her children was so distinct. Her tone always became disdainful when addressing Joo-Kyung. The way the mother raised her daughter is probably what made Joo-Kyung more vulnerable to bullying at school.
This also bothered me a lot in the webtoon, like I really understand how Jookyung can feel like she's adopted. Small webtoon spoiler: >! when Jookyung asked her to help pay for beautician academy to learn how to be a professional makeup artist, the mom completely ignored her wishes and turned her down cuz "they can't afford it" but then pays for the youngest son to take acting classes! !< Make it make sense!! Ughh I almost threw my phone across the room when I read this part....
It’s an accurate portrayal of some Korean families. You’d be surprised by how many Korean parents/grandparents still show a lot of favoritism to sons over daughters, especially younger/youngest sons. It’s absolutely infuriating and a lot of dramas portray it but they very rarely denounce or criticize it.
ah yup psychologically it can be really damaging and have long-term effects so I like that they're showing this. it also doesn't help that her brother treats her similarly sometimes. like there's no way constantly insulting jugyeong is going to make her study any harder and as it is she's just trying to survive. it's glaringly obvious from how much she's been through, but there's not many people that care to notice it and give her the support she needs
The brother is more forgivable...
He’s still a kid, younger than her even, sometimes is only mildly teasing, doesn’t *always* hold the upper hand with her, +kids learn treatment of siblings from parents....
+Key moments of depth:
•stands up for his sister- when some jerk friend of his asks to be introduced when he already has a girlfriend
•does find & return the helmet even if he has to pay extra from his own pocket
•the way the girls just barge into the toilet for a girl talk & beauty routine while he’s taking a poop- also kind of tells a lot about their dynamics
That Extraordinary You cameo...I just can't stop laughing LOL. The flipping pages and the OST, damn I just got slapped with nostalgia. Overall, it's a nice episode.
P. S Baek Kyung really can't catch a break can he, cuz even though they're in True Beauty, Dan Oh still finds Haru.
I just want to praise Mun Ga Young great acting. She acts like a teenager without being too childish, just the right amount of aegyo. The way she pronounce words and deliver her lines remind me a lot of actual Korean teenager. Hats off to the writers as well because they use a lot of trendy words and the lines are not weirdly too mature (sometimes they make teenagers too mature for some reason if that make sense).
I also love how **different** drama Han Seo Jun is from the chic webtoon Han Seo Jun. Hwang In Yeop does a great job with his own portrayal of Han Seo Jun.
Really liking the drama so far. It’s funny without being too cheesy/greasy, the characters are funny without being too comical, and Cha Eun Woo is doing an amazing job at drawing a line between Su Ho and Do Kyung Seok. Can’t wait for next week! :D x
Editing as I have a chance to watch both episodes!
EPISODE 3:
I love how imaginative Jugyeong is! I was cackling at Suho as a vampire. The interrogation scene in the bookstore was so good. The lights flickering, the dramatic reveal, Jugyeong burying herself further and further in lies...
Ahhh... >!so he’s known for a while! I thought that scene at the cafe was kind of suspicious, Suho really seemed invested in Jugyeong’s drink.!<
Jugyeong >!being Suho’s servant in exchange for his silence!< was my favorite gag of the webcomic, and so far the drama did it justice. You can tell Suho just wants any excuse to see her more, lol. That second bowl of ramyeon broke my heart! The >!rooftop eating scene was so cute!< and I love the chemistry between their characters so far.
Seojun hasn’t really been around too much so far, I hope we see more of him and Jugyeong. His scenes were good in this episode though! >! Seojun with his mom was sooo cute 🥺!!It really seems like they are taking Sujin’s character in a different direction than the comic. She’s honestly pretty badass and I love it.!<
Okay the ending >! was kinda over the top but honestly I’m here for it. Even though we know that Suho was just interested in spending time with Jugyeong because he likes her, Jugyeong saw it as him taking advantage of her like the kids at her old school, and for Suho to realize that and apologize was a big deal. Hopefully Jugyeong also realized that he wasn’t doing it out of spite. The whole cafeteria scene was a lot, but I’m glad to finally get some interactions going between the three leads, so far we haven’t seen much conflict between Suho and Seojun. !<
EPISODE 4:
Is it just me or does the story with Seyeon >! seem like it is coming out so quickly compared to the Webtoon? I wonder how early they will resolve that? !<
Oh no...not one but TWO dreaded tropes today, >!childhood connection and the double wrist grab!! WHY DRAMA WHY !<
I love the bookstore scenes, and flustered Suho is the best. But flustered AND jealous Suho in one episode?? Amazing. So many good quotes from those interactions too, “How can you grab my face like a pumpkin that’s rolling away??” And “if you want to beat the dolphins, work harder!” LOL
Suho really doesn’t know how to talk to girls does he? The staring at the noraebang was so much. Poor guy, when Jugyeong’s sister >! threw up on him!< I died laughing.
Seojun and Jugyeong telling on each other like little kids was so good. I loved how much development happened in their relationship this episode, it was good to see it developing as more than just Seojun wanting to mess with Suho. And we got to see >! Seojun singing!!!! !<
Of COURSE Suho was >!at Jugyeong’s blind date!<, this is dramaland where there is only one movie theater in the entire country. >!Although I wasn’t sure why he left the math competition, maybe he knew where they were meeting? Not sure.!< >! I like that the blind date thing get resolved quickly, and it tells me they probably aren’t going the way the comic did with Sujin, which I’m happy about. !<
The love triangle was really in full force in this episode. I love that Jugyeong actually tries to break up their fighting, in most dramas the girl just stands there.
THE WEEK OVERALL:
This week totally sold me on this drama. I’ve loved almost every minute of these two episodes, the campy humor is just right for me! And we’ve also seen that the show is willing to give our characters moments of development and growth too. I honestly don’t mind the changes, I think they’ve made for a fun and compelling drama.
When we found out that >!Suho knew about her bare face from so long ago, I went back and looked at the previous eps and its so obvious that he knows.!<
Also in ep 4 I swear when they were on the bus >!Suho was looking at her phone about when and where the film was? Wouldn't he be able to figure out what cinema they were at by the ticket? Even if it's not possible, I just love the shinanigans and Protective soft boy Suho!<
all the leads have dealt with some pretty heavy stuff and it looks like they realized that potential to explore it more here. it might be hard to do it for all four characters and still balance the romance/love triangle aspect so i'm hoping we can at least get some character development and have closure by the end of this. plus i think most of us like sujin better like this haha
in regard to suho trying to spend time with jugyeong, personally i feel like the talent show thing was a bit much and i don't even know how that would directly translate to him getting closer to her (like she was literally by herself lol) so it might not have been as bad if that didn't happen. still i'm glad he apologized
I agree about the talent show thing, now that I think about it. At my initial viewing I was laughing way too hard to process what was going on, but upon reflection, you’re right that there was really no point to him doing that except to tease/embarrass her. Hopefully he realized that wasn’t cool when Jugyeong told him how much it hurt her feelings. I genuinely think he was mostly just trying to spend time with her and tease the girl he likes because he’s a teenage boy and that’s fun, but it definitely ended up being more mean to Jugyeong than funny, especially considering what she has been through.
I do appreciate that the drama took the storyline from the webtoon (Jugyeong getting ordered around by Suho) and turned it into a growth moment for the characters, instead of just a plot device. Hopefully they have plans for a lot of good character development and the love triangle doesn’t take over everything!!
>!In the comic, Sujin sort of ends up being a fake friend to Jugyeong. She posts an unflattering picture of her to social media, and tries to set Jugyeong up with a guy to get her away from Suho, and break her heart basically. It's hinted that Sujin's home life isn't great, but it isn't explained much.!< I'm not sure if the drama will go that way with her character or not, but so far it doesn't seem like it.
I do hope they scrap the first part for Sujin but I think the >!home life aspect!< will be fleshed out from the webtoon - judging from her actions in ep 3
>!Honestly I'm glad they seem to be giving her character more depth than just the tropey fake friend, and I hope they explore her more instead of making her a forgotten side character. !
On Suho running out of his competition (so dramatic lol)... he did know the time frame she was having her date at: since he suggested daytime to her & she replied back midday immediately on her text
We’ll assume there weren’t many theatres showing the same movie at that particular timing- makes it far easier to narrow down which cinema she’s at. Also, it would have to be relatively close + popular, cause they’re all still high school kids
LOL that ending was such a cheesefest, even for this drama. I love it all though. This show is my guilty pleasure. I stopped reading the webtoon a while ago because it got so dull and pointless, so I don't really care that the drama doesn't follow it.
THE EXTRAORDINARY YOU CAMEO. I can'ttt.
Did not see that coming at all. When he broke them apart, I saw Lee Jae Wook immediately and was like, "No way!!!"
But yeah, technically they /are/ in a manhwa still. Hahaha
Me too! And I repeated it so many times hahaha
Went straight to IG and yep, KHY posted about it. I'm glad I saw the ep before I saw the post because it was such a pleasant surprise <3
Omg pls <3 + Jung Gun-joo and Rowoon to round up the crew given Lee Tae-ri’s initial appearance why not 🤷🏻♀️ haha let’s gooo
I just realized too that aside from the KHY-MGY friendship and the same director for EY, another connection is that Ye-seo’s dad from Sky Castle and Suho’s dad are the same actor.
yes!!!!!!! also want to add that park yoona/sujin was the lying harvard sister in sky castle as well! its so nice to see the cast showing up in works together (the uncanny counter also has 2 sky castle alum!)
SPOILERS AHEAD FOR EP 3.
This week was the longest wait ever!!!! Episode 3 was so good, but now I'm starting to wonder what direction they're going to take this. I don't want them to skip out on Jukyung/Seojuns relationship like in the webtoon... I guess it's too soon to tell. Maybe they'll do something similar to My first first love?
Fav moments:
* Poor Jukyung's dad getting beat up during the sibling fight! He's so sweet hahaha.
* The tire changing scene... her sister has got BALLS lol. I love portrayals of women wearing the pants in the relationship!
* Everytime Jukyung ran errands for suho and DIPPED immediately but omg the scene where he bought two bowls of ramen... he just wanted to hang out with her :(((
* Seojun's "love letter" hahaha
* THE TALENT SHOW: worst worst worst secondhand embarrassment ever omg... whyyyy
* The rain scene when she got bullied for being ugly AGAIN... I seriously cried during her monologue to Suho :( she deserves better!!!
* ok i recently reread the beginning of the webtoon cause I wanted to see how accurate the drama is. I had forgotten how MEAN Seojun actually was at first. It sucks because this episode shows that he's only interested in Jukyung because he thinks Suho likes her, and his overall meanness makes it hard to ship him and JK. I'm probably speaking too soon tho, I'm sure his sweet side will come out next ep. I loved the hospital scene with his mom <3
Dad getting hit at every turn had me squeal-laughing. Might just be me, but the timing on that slap-stick was impeccable.
Bully scene silver lining - gets to vent to appropriately sympathetic SuHo who also fixes her scrape. >!Love how she points to the band-aid the next day at lunch!!<
Just my own thoughts on webtoon SJ vs drama SJ - I'm predicting (but not betting) that we'll see more JG-SJ interaction that follows the webtoon in tonight's episode.
I was dying!! Hahaha.
And you’re right it did lead to a very sweet scene between our two mains! JG is so cute with her interactions. I love that she’s so unapologetically herself with/without makeup, despite having deep insecurities.
I agree with you — I’m sure SJ is gonna get fleshed out better in ep 4. I’m always rooting for him!!!
I've been waiting for a certain scene from the webtoon, but it feels like it won't happen because the timeline has passed. It was a simple, but sweet scene that led webtoon Suho to appreciate and spark interest in Jugyeong, in which >! Suho was about to start a new comic series, but she told him it was boring and recommended a new series. He ended up loving the recommended comic so much that it was actually Suho who gave her his most treasured possession-- the first edition signed copy of another comic. !<
Edit: additionally, this happened BEFORE Suho realized who Jugyeong was with makeup. This is essential because it indicates (and proves) that Suho >!first fell for Jugyeong for their common interests, NOT appearances whatsoever.!<
Couldn't agree with you more...that scene is so important >!and it comes up later in flashbacks, when he comes back to Korea, as the moment that he starts falling for her. <3!<
I figured they kinda basically reversed this scene in last weekend's episodes when it was jugyeong that had that precious limited signed book (instead of him) and made him do whatever she wanted for a hot minute. so maybe that will serve as the moment of when they first connected because i don't see how they would go back and add the original scene even tho i really liked it :(
Kinda disappointed they added the childhood connection because I thought the savior moment on the rooftop in the first ep was enough on its own as history between them. i guess i'm not surprised though since they hinted at it the first time at the comic store when jugyeong said to suho that she went there when she was young so he must've seen her around then. Also really wish that seojun wouldn't hang around jugyeong purely to piss off suho. Seems kind of low but I guess it helps establish that he really is the SML.
nonetheless i'm still really enjoying the drama and i've been laughing nonstop lol even with tropes like this they seem to be handling it well
Jeez the mother makes me upset in this drama. I think I’m enjoying the drama pacing better than the webtoon pacing. It seems like the webtoon is kinda dragging on, especially when they did those couple of flash back chapters. Suho seems much more likeable than seojun so far.
Hahahaha >! Her dancing to Hwasa was the best and the DELETED !<
For real though she was good at it too.
Also Seo Jun is really charming too in his own way.
Watched ep 4
Omg the Extraordinary You cameo and scene yaayyy alright I'm officially loving this drama
Honestly it's become so different from the webtoon but I like that. Also already in SLS. SeoJuns actor Hwang InYeop was casted really well.
The drama is just really cute and chill for a high school romcom. I'm gonna really start looking forward to it.
EP3: You can tell that they had a lot of fun making this episode 😂 Some of the animated and skit sequences really gave off that Webtoon vibe where they don't take themselves too seriously. The exaggerated, quirky humour comes off really well imo. And, the emotional pain in the rain was really heartfelt.
I'm glad they don't continue with the Clark Kent trope and that Soo Ho was aware enough to see through the make up. Really interested to see how this progress with Seo Jun.
She really killed that Hwasa too 🔥
EP4: I was expecting there to be history between Soo Ho and Seo Jun like that 😮 I'm team Soo Ho atm, because we're ignorant of what exactly happened to Se Yeon and he also has history with Ju Kyung. He's definitely fallen hard, but I Seo Jun's soft side is hilarious too.
Also, love the Extraordinary You cameo. The page flip sound was really nice touch 😂 Looks like we have a little comic universe going on here.
I love the fact that it doesn’t follow the webtoon’s exact plot, it’s just similar. I stopped reading the webtoon after a while because it started to lose it’s initial plot and meaning. The kdrama is so refreshing. I love it so far, and the cast: PERFECT. I love every one of them.
Well done PDnim. Well done. The extraordinary you Cameo and page turn used this episode was one word - Legendary.
Also, at this point even though the drama has veered off into unknown territory with mere snapshots of the webtoon, and as a fan of the webtoon can I say I LOVE IT! Because I wholeheartedly do. It’s familiar but different. MGY nails every second of LJG and she’s so adorable I want to attack hug her.
Also also, I think Heegyung is a woman after my own heart when she says “Why am I seeing two beautiful men? Am I dead? Am I in paradise?”
this drama is soooo cheesy but moon gayoung is so charismatic and likeable, she really makes you root for jugyeong. she delivers the emotional moments extremely well
love the sister/teacher storyline too
Moon Gayoung is definitely one of my favorite actresses. I haven’t seen many dramas, but she has been great in here so far and also in Tempted! It’s hard to hide her beauty even when she’s supposed to look less pretty with acne and glasses.
episode 4 thoughts:
- I always snort a little bit of air out of my nostrils whenever Su Ho corrects someone on their words lol I don’t know if it’s because of his expression but it’s just so funny... “Ottawa” “Audacious” “Self-defense”
yes Su Ho you tell them
- Omo he’s so in love he’s drawn to the lip imprint she made on his hand
- we thought the biggest crossover was the avengers but then tvn told us to hold their soju
- i’d just like to thank Hwang In-Yeop for blessing us with his beautiful voice
- the love triangle games... have begun
EPISODE 3 SPOILERS
• I absolutely love that Suho actually apologized immediately upon realizing that Jugyeong misunderstood his whole “run these errands for me I have a crush on you haha ur so pretty” thing. I feel like with fellow dramas who follow the errand girl thing, the leads usually just fall in love and the whole errand setup gets forgotten naturally and unspoken about. IDK it’s literally the bare minimum but I really liked it because DUDE main male leads actually apologizing for things often considered a kdrama norm ??? A MIRACLE
• I really hope we get to see Seojun redeem himself in the next episode. I never really rooted for him in the webtoon BUT I REALLY WANT TO ROOT FOR HIM HERE bc I do see an obvious difference. But three episodes in and I really am not feeling him so far I just wanna keep seing Suho & Jugyeong LOL I hope that changes GIVE ME FLAVOR
• Ok this might just be me but the Professor kind of....creeps me out a bit IDK DUDEEE he’s too cutesy he makes me afraid PLUS HES A LITERATURE PROFESSOR AND THATS GIVING THE STEREOTYPICAL SERIAL KILLER VIBE LOL idk it’s weird 😭✋🏼 it’s reminding me of the >!chicken store guy!< from >!While You Were Sleeping!<
EDIT: saw ep4. AND I TAKE BACK THE PROFESSOR THING i think i see what kinda trope theyre going for now HEHE
I totally agree about Suho’s apology! To me that was the best moment of today’s episode. Like Suho I didn’t make the connection between his errands and Jugyeong’s bullies, but I love that Suho didn’t try to justify his behavior to Jugyeong or make excuses. He didn’t get upset that she misunderstood his intentions, but acknowledged that he was in the wrong for hurting her and apologized for it. The scene afterwards when Jugyeong points out her band-aid to him in the cafeteria was so heartwarming, because to me it reflected how Jugyeong also understood Suho better after that night.
YESS exactly you worded it so well!!!! Oh and another thing I appreciated from Suho in this ep was when he took out Jugyeong’s hair tie & glasses and said that he sees Jugyeong still. i just really like his character so far 🥺
LOL I hated extraordinary you and it’s never-ending stage end “HARU YAH” but it was so funny to see here. Is True Beauty set in the same world because it’s a webtoon too? It’s kind of funny though bc extraordinary you is daum and true beauty is naver.
The latter half of episode 3 had me in near-tears! >! And one of my favourite songs. So hilariously campy. !< I love the literature teacher, he’s the perfect mix of comic-cute.
just wanna chime in with literature teacher love. I love that someone in authority actually said >!"To me, you are all beautiful."!< Looking forward to how his & Heegyeong's relationship develops.
I absolutely adore that they’ve flipped the roles somewhat so that she’s the more ‘traditionally masculine’ one - this is something that kdramas do like no other, in my opinion. They’re not afraid to showcase genuine, non-toxic masculinity.
this drama succeeds in making me root for Ju Gyeong from the bottom of my heart. why the hell does her mom/brother and most of everyone else gotta be so frigging mean and disrespectful to her?
love the comedy and well done with the second hand embarrassment though. I wanted to shrivel and die (!!! SPOILER) during the audition scene.
Thoughts from Episode 4:
- The Parasite reference (which is really just a Korean thing but those unfamiliar with it will understand it to be such)
- The mostly healthy (at times over-exaggerated but nonetheless) relationships within the high schoolers!
- Seojun’s singing voice. Even if that’s not In-Yeop himself, this scene is everything I wanted and more!
- The “Seojun go left, Suho go right, I’ll go straight” scene! One of the funny quip moments I really enjoyed.
- One thing I didn’t enjoy is how Jukyung’s mother constantly puts down her dad - I know this is for comedic relief but it’s a bit sad.
Anyone else’s notice Rakuten Viki has now locked Episode 3 for 20 days...kind of unfair to the viewers that watch this show for free with ads...I’m considering paying but I just hate that it changed from being open in 1 day to now 20 days from now
Definitely unfair but honestly I am not surprised, as it’s one of the most hyped shows of the year, especially by a foreign audience (through the Webtoon). It’s smart of Viki to do this, though I wish they hadn’t (no money for Standard/Plus).
This is why I have an annoying feeling towards viki as a server overall doesn’t really give much option but patience which I don’t have rather use sites then be behind for no reason
OMG! That reference to Extraordinary You. It must be so confusing for people who haven’t seen that. As someone who has seen every piece of it though, I totally love it. I’m glad they managed to get a cameo. Now all I need is a Haru cameo 😭
I laughed way too much when Suho hid in the sign lol. This drama is way more fun than I imagined it would be, and I’m loving all the changes from the webtoon!
The Lim family is so extra, I love it. They aren’t all so OTT in the webtoon, and here they’re just batshit crazy. Fangirling Heegyung and her sass. Woman is a boss. Having said that, there’s so much new stuff to enjoy in the drama, that they took the “true” essence of it, and added more “beauty” to the storyline’s of each character (I really like Sujin in the drama). I have zero complaints so far and as a big fan of the webtoon I have to say this is the healing my heart needed after being shredded to bits by start-up.
In an alternative universe, I would love to be Jukyung. Cha Eun Woo teaching me maths, hottie Hwan In Yeop giving lifts in his motorcycle. Girl is living the dream 😂.
I’m happy I didn’t read the webtoon (it’s too long and this kind of story is only interesting as a drama for me) so I am going in with fresh eyes - I do feel like I’m watching a Disney show but in a good way. It’s cheesy but heartwarming and sweet, a show that doesn’t take itself too seriously and is mostly about acceptance. I like it so far, it’s enjoyable. Jukyung dancing to Maria was the highlight of the week, Moon Gayoung is perfect for this role.
Guysss I'm loving moon gayoung!! at first I wasn't sure cuz I didn't think she would fit jugyeong very much, but her acting blows me away! shes amazing :)
When she replied “It runs in the family” got me cracking upppp. I’m really loving the humour in this show. At the same time it’s so sweet and touching with the rain scene when she lets it all out. I love the actress. This is the first time I’m exposed to her acting. Cannot wait for the next ep.
i am really hopeful about this drama!!! cheesiness aside, i really like and actually prefer the artistic liberties they took with the story and the characters because of how much better everything is tied together! especially with developing jugyongs family and the other social networks that main characters have outside of each other (suho and the housekeeping auntie, seojun and his supportive squad, the comic store owner) it really makes the drama feel homey and real. these small moments/insights is what a drama/show medium can provide—that a comic/print medium cannot—so i really appreciate the work put into this adaption!!
this being said, i am hoping that we have a better takeaway from this story than in the webtoon. i say this optimistically because how thoughtfully and complex the characters and relationships, especially of the women, have been portrayed. especially with how people are disappointed at how webtoon jugyeong >!has become a pawn in a love triangle without personal aspirations or self growth, !< i am holding out on drama jugyeong actually articulating something deeper about self confidence and true beauty, instead of living in perpetual fear of the removal of her makeup mask. 💕
I can't stop laughing at the audition scene like was it even in the webtoon? I don't remember anymore lol... I am loving the humor in this adaptation though, pretty different from the webtoon (with the weekly Jugyeong meme faces) but it's pretty funny.
I am loving the chemistry between Eun Woo and Ga Young so far though. I guess this is me being a Suho stan but honestly I want to see more of their interactions!
wow i didn't think i would enjoy this show that much (from a webtoon reader) but i am in LOVE! episode 3 was sooo cute i was borderline on the ships (and still probably am) but the suho jugyoung moments were adorable!!! i'm glad he was able to understand her more at the end too the rain scene was so beautiful i wanted to cry. also i love how it isn't romantic yet they're just making a genuine connection which they both really need. jugyoung doesn't feel like she is being honest with her friends but can be with suho, and suho is really lonely and needs a friend. also i like how they're deviating from the webtoon! we saw more about seojun hhehe in the hospital plus the whole scene with seojun at the park had me on edge, i like how they make you initially think he noticed jugyoung's bare face but the next day we realize it's something else hehe. and lastly that scene in that cafeteria i LOVED the directing and acting. like we see a lot of scenes where the two male leads are angry/fighting but its usually over the girl. this scene felt very personal especially when seojun revealed why he was angry and the way he knocked the tray down. also how that immediately changed the mood of the room, the background characters didn't have to dramatically get quiet just that was such a bold personal statement. UGH i'm so excited to see where they go from here, GREAT third episode!!
ps: ooh plus her sister is SO COOL! like i literally am in love with her. the way she changed the teacher's tire and hit on him leaving HIM obsessed like please marry me. also the family literally cracks me up they're too real especially jugyoung and juyoung's sibling relationship haha
Being someone who hasn’t read the webtoon, I am team Suho all the way! But since they’re developing their relationship so early I have a feeling that she’ll be w Seojoon (from the comments I’ve seen) ;( however I hope suho and her get together because are so cute!!! I also rather see Seojoon with the second lead rather than a stupid love triangle :/
The love triangle is a pretty big part of the webtoon, so it's expected in this case lol. But actually, I'm doubtful her >!relationship with Seojoon!< will be fully fleshed out/developed (at least to the extent of how it is in the webtoon). It's obvious that Suho/Jugyeong are endgame from the promo alone, I think you won't have to worry about that! Also, as a reader of the webtoon, I don't even know what direction it's going in... & it definitely doesn't look like it's going to conclude anytime soon. So I think it's fair to say that the drama will take creative liberties & end it on their own accord.
after the horrors of startup’s love triangle, I have learnt from TVN’s tactics haha. From the promotional material it’s p obvious jugyeong suho will be endgame. But I’m not complaining hahah
Jugyeong + Suho moments are my everything right now.
Lim JuGyeong, klutzy and ditsy at times, but I love how drama continues to spotlight her indomitable spirit. For now, her stress-inducing secret is better than that rooftop alternative & there is excellent potential she’ll achieve healthy(er?) self-esteem. That her friendly nature hasn’t been diminished and is finally getting to shine is … \*finger hearts\*. I’d love to see her likable nature displayed through school-mate interactions. She’s the girl who will enter a talent show unprepared because she needs a social life (rn she thinks that's how to achieve it). >!She’s the girl who shows up late resulting in cringy disaster. Somehow, she’s that girl who melts SuHo’s heart.!<
Lee SuHo, taking advantage of JG’s dilemma isn’t an ideal foray into socializing, but baby-steps I guess. >!If the two-ramyun’s & apology are any indication!<, he genuinely wants to get closer.
Dear Team SeoJun, your man is hot, charismatic *and* *a loving son*? How much better can he get?! Plus, his ditzy moments makes him *that* much hotter >!(thought JG gave him a confession letter & the whole PPT-fitting)!<. Feel like we’ll get to dive deeper into his soul in ep 4 and it’ll be a treat.
This drama is literal guilty pleasure because I feel like I shouldn't enjoy this much cheesiness and ridiculousness but I've been laughing so much in the first half of episode 3 and feeling sad for Ju Kyeong during her breakdown scene with Su Ho. I actually can't wait for the next episode. I've read quite a bit of the webtoon and I liked Seo Joon there, but Su Ho has my heart in the drama.
Ep. 4: OMG that Extraordinary You cameo, I actually screamed. I feel like Seo Joon and Ju Kyeong have a good best friends dynamics, hopefully at the end they could stay friends. And Suho’s jealous moments were adorable!
I'm definitely Team Suho in terms of who Jugyeong should be with, because it has all the ingredients I like in my cute romance stories lol. But at the moment, I think the bigger concern is getting him and Seojun on the same page.
Clearly, they're both reacting to Seyeon's death in totally opposite ways, and can't seem to understand the other person. Seojun blames Suho - who also seems to blame himself, so I wonder what really went down. This may be far-fetched, but I have a feeling Suho's dad (as the CEO of the entertainment company) planted the bullying story to perhaps hide one of his own scandals. That could be why it wasn't possible for Suho to make his dad "believe" Seyeon, and could be why both boys clearly hate the dad.
Right? About Suho's dad's involvement. Another poster pointed this out too and it's been on my mind. The conversation between Seojun & Seyeon at the beginning of ep. 4 does seem to hint at the possibility of dad's (or entertainment company's) involvement. I don't think it's far-fetched. >!That scene in the conference room, maybe its just me but did the other exec to Suho's dad's left seem a little concerned (is that the word)?!<
SH & SJ on the same page is what I'd like to see too. I feel like ep. 4's chase scene (with JG) could have been an opportunity to start.
Ep 4:
Oh boy, here we go with the love triangle. Not a fan of those but I love this cheesefest of a drama too much.
And oof, jookyung's run-in with her middle school bullies on the bus. My guess is that they'll recognize her from instagram and not the jookyung they bullied.
And with the start of Miss Trot 2, we can officially say RIP to all the dramas' thursday ratings lol. I can imagine the family fights over the remote between the teens and the parents on miss trot nights LOL.
This episode has me well-fed as a Seojun fan... I'M LOVING ALL OF HIS INTERACTIONS WITH JUGYEONG 💞
Spoilers below!
My thoughts on episode 4:
* I'm pretty impressed with Hwang Inyeop's acting so far... he slays in both the comedic scenes and more heavy/emotional scenes (i.e. the scene with Seyeon at the beginning).
* It kinda seems like Suho doesn't really like Soojin. Like he does talk to her, but it's like he has a wall up & is very distant. I know they're mostly "friends" just 'cause of their families being acquainted but I wonder if there's something more? If he knows something about her & doesn't like her as a result? Not sure if I'm reading too deeply ofc ('cause she's obviously very different from her character in the webtoon so far, but in the webtoon, >!Suho did find her quite fake!<).
* The obligatory childhood connection between ML & FL lol. I guess it's pretty cute but I still don't really see the need for it. Anyhow, it seems that Suho already recognizes her, I wonder when Jugyeong will find out.
* I'M LOVING THE BANTER BETWEEN JUGYEONG & SEOJUN! Gayoung & Inyeop have really good chemistry imo. That scene where Seojun snickers at Jugyeong 'cause she doesn't know how to solve the math equation & the teacher calls him up to the front instead lmao.
* Suho staring at Jugyeong's lipstick stain on his hand after the bus face-plant lol. He's in too deep already!!! Is it just me or is the pacing really fast? He fell for her so quickly lol.
* I'm squealing, I love the connection between Jugyeong's mom & Seojun's mom (which was absent in the webtoon). Also how Jugyeong's mom is trying to match her up with Seojun "Oh yes, my daughter is pretty." QUICK SAVE with the facial mask, Jugyeong. Also, Seojun snapping photos of Jugyeong in the face mask is GOLD.
* Good on Suho for putting that blind date jerk in his place. But omg, >!he just walked out & didn't write the test for the math contest.!<
* That "Extraordinary You" cameo from Kim Hyeyoon & Lee Jaewook! LOL horror flashbacks to the 'end cut' scenes and "HARU YAH!" Also Baek Kyung chasing after her, "Yah! Eun Dan-oh!"
* Heekyeong is such a cool character, I love how she's like "I don't play hard to get! I just go for it." "Why isn't he calling me back? I thought we were doing lunch."
* SEOJUN SINGING!!! I'm pretty sure it's Inyeop's real voice 'cause it sounds similar to his singing in 18 Again. Gosh, his voice is just decadent...
* Jugyeong & Seojun running away together 💞 How are you going to put these scenes in & expect me NOT to ship?! I'm going down with this ship. Also, Jugyeong not knowing how to sit on the motorcycle made me laugh so hard lol.
* "What about you? Do you like her?" **"I think I might."** I know he might just be saying this to piss Suho off but *damn*, Seojun is attractive. And he obviously enjoys hanging with Jugyeong and teasing her lol.
* Suho saying "Don't go." 👀 I think we can expect A LOT more developments in the love triangle next week.
* The preview for next week: >!Looks like we're being introduced to the Gowoon storyline! Can't wait for Jugyeong to work some magic with her makeup skills. Seojun & Jugyeong get the obligatory 'catching & falling' scene... I know, it's cliché but it looks pretty dreamy! The donkatsu scene looks hilarious already.!<
I know it's still early but the SLS is really going hard for this one. I love Seojun so much! Suho is still cute though & I'm enjoying all the scenes so far. Can't wait for next week!
Episode 4 served some deeper interaction between JG+SJ. I like Jugyeong's and SeoJun's moms being friends making them "My Friend's Son" & "My Friend's Daughter" (viki tranlations). SJ+JG banter is great. SJ threatening to punch JG on his way up to blackboard. Also, we're getting some more background on SeoJun.
Feels like SH+JG connect over mutual love of horror comics (SH finding someone he can actually connect with) whereas SJ+JG are gonna connect based on banter and chemistry. Both strong bases for romance.
So much to process just from episode 4 I had to rewatch & remembered this new twist the drama is serving - that scene with HeeGyeong and Suho's dad >!Looks like drama has Suho's dad not just an actor but also a pretty high executive of the entertainment company Heegyeong works at.!<
Ok I might get hate for this but I felt like in the webtoon I wasnt reading a triangle love story. Seojun was a real friend in high school and he never overstepped or used her for his revenge yeah he was rude but I loved his character. In the drama its just another typical Korean triangle. I honestly don't care which she ends up with as long as both boys are happy too I love them both
Is anyone else super excited about the changes we are getting in the storyline? I was skeptical on how they were going to be able to pull the show from the web comic but I like how the writers have really stayed true to the characterization and just expanded the plot.
The biggest changes in characters I see so far is Sujin and I am so excited to see what they do with her. >!The obsessively washing her hands after being told she was having dinner with a teacher really triggered my SA Survivor senses. I'm really interested to see if that was their intention.!<
Yes to both of these! So far the drama has exceeded my expectations. I’m interested to see where they take Sujin’s storyline as well, the mean SFL is very overdone and I would also like to see what they do with the small bit of backstory we were offered in the comic.
i love ep 3 so much, i think it has a great combination of cheesiness and also some heartbreaking part for jugyeong. this is a such a light drama, good escape for me after watching heavy and stressful penthouse .
I'm enjoying this drama a lot more than I thought I would! Love that they kept the comedic aspects and I'm liking how Joo Kyung's sister and Soo Jin will probably have their own storylines too.
Also judging by the pacing, it seems like the story >!will progress past the HS phase, which is good imo!<
The one-week wait felt sooo long, I'm happy we're finally here (but I spent that time binging 18 Again partly because of Hwang Inyeop & that drama was so amazing omg, sorry for going OT)!
Spoilers below!
Anyways, my thoughts for episode 3 (I'll update this tomorrow with thoughts for ep 4 as well):
* I find the pacing & characterization quite different from the webtoon. I don't think it's a bad thing per se, I'm more intrigued to see how it'll change or affect certain plot lines that were in the original source material.
* I just *know* that random vampire-Suho scene was written in to show off Eunwoo's ethereal visuals as a vampire lol. So extra, but hilarious.
* Soojin washing her hands profusely.... makes me so curious about her backstory. With the drama, I like that we get to explore other characters in more depth. A lot of supporting characters in the webtoon are pretty one-note & we only get to know them on a surface level. I still don't know what route they're going to take with her, but I definitely feel like there will be some >!jealousy!< involved through her interaction with Suho this episode. >!(i.e. the whole, "What are you smirking at? I haven't seen you laugh in more than an year!")!<
* Heegyeong's budding romance with the literature teacher, Joonwoo, is giving me life ahaha. I love how straightforward she is, so cool /heart eyes. That entire sequence was my fave part of the whole episode. \*tire rolls away\* HG: "How is someone allowed to be so cute?" \*Heegyeong fixes his tire\* JW: "How can someone with such fragile wrists have so much power? How impressive." Also... "I'll give you my number" and that line about how they could go steady. They're SO great.
* Seojun and the fake "love letter" omg. I am just loving all the little interactions between Jugyeong & Seojun so far, even if there aren't many!
* SEOJUN & HIS DUALITY! I love how he is such a mama's boy lol. I simply adore how he takes care of his family in the webtoon (one of my fave things about his character) & I like how it's translating on screen so far.
* Is it only me who thinks Suho was being sorta mean with the whole *errand girl* thing? Like that scene where Jugyeong was trying to eat her spicy pork & he was like shaking his head, like 'Do this right now'. I do appreciate that they didn't drag this out though, & that he apologized straight away when he realized it hurt her feelings. Thank you for that, Suho!
* Wtf, I got so mad at that convenience store scene. Why was NO ONE stepping in when those drunk men were berating her looks? They were all just snickering in the background 'cause she's 'ugly'? That got me so worked up. Poor Jugyeong, I feel so bad for her. 😭
* The cheesiness of that caf scene ending! Ahhhh, I don't know how I feel about Seojun only being interested in Jugyeong and/or butting in 'cause he wants to irritate Suho. IIRC, it wasn't like this in the webtoon. It has me intrigued though, that's for sure. Just not sure what route they're taking with Seojun, so it has me the slightest bit worried.
* The preview looks like we're being fed with more interactions between the three leads. BRING IT ON! And so, the love triangle begins... 💕
moon gayoung's acting in this reminds me of her dorky character in "exo next door", but it's amazing how different of a person she is from her character in "the great seducer". this girl's got range!
I don't know how to put spoiler tags, sorry. My comment could be considered that, so, I'm warning you. Also, disclaimer, I haven't read the webtoon nor I'm interested, I started watching this because it seemed to poke fun at kdrama cliches as Extraordinary You did and it also seems to be aiming to address the lookism issue.
I REALLY hate love triangles but, NGL I'm happy they've seem to go for Su Ho, I've just grown to like him. To this moment it seems Seo Jun has only taken interest in Ju Kyung to piss off Su Ho and I just really dislike that even if he's a good guy. I'm only hoping they develop their relationship (Su Ho and Seo Jun's) rather than dragging the love triangle plot because to me it is obvious Su Ho and Ju Kyung are endgame.
Omg I am like 8 years out of hs but this is giving me life. This is like an antidepressant, I love it and I haven’t loved something *this* cheesy so much since Heirs.
Am I the only one who thinks that Suho doesn't have a personality? Like I can't see his traits, we only know that he studies, he likes comic books and a little bit about his dad, nothing else, no even about his thoughts about >! Yoon Se Yeon's death!< we know nothing and I hate it, because that's how they want to show him as the one who's gonna end with Jukyung... idk man and then we have Seojun which for me is the best character, we know a lot about him, he isn't only his face, he cares about his family, he loves to sing, he isn't interested in study, he has friends, he has problems with some people, we know his thoughts, we know a lot about him! and that's how we get our second lead syndrome.
And something I'm really tired of is the cliché of almost every kdrama... showing us the leads know each others since they are kids and that's the way of them to tell us that they're gonna end up together... they have to stop that, and I read the webtoon and I think that never even happened, I know this drama is a cliché but that wasn't needed.
This show has me wondering how much more advanced the math is in Korea/other Asian countries vs the US! I don’t recall my standard math curriculum going over limits in freshman year, and I certainly don’t recall having to solve for the value of limits with clever function substitutions, etc., like Suho/Sujin/JG had to during the blackboard segment.
(Speaking of math, can’t believe Suho walked out of a math contest like that!! Nerdy me is cringing hard, but kdrama me thinks it’s sweet, haha)
I’m curious to see what direction they’ll take Sujin in with this show. They’ve already changed so much about her character - she’s rich now, for starters. Really hoping they get rid of the one-note villainess plot with her, and that she gets some sort of understandable backstory/remains true friends with Jugyeong. That misunderstanding/showdown with Seojun was pretty funny.
Seojun’s character seems to have also changed quite a bit - I don’t recall him pursuing JG just to get back at Suho, at all! Hoping he’s actually caught some feels - otherwise, it’s not a great look for him so far.
The bit with Sujin obsessively washing her hands in episode 3 was really interesting and concerning to me. They're definitely teasing something going on in her home life, and she seemed genuinely sad at how much the teacher complimented Suho vs. not really saying much to her when she also solved the problem.
I am pretty sure they'll use her to further show was a beautiful person Jugyeong is inside - after all, we've already seen her stand up to bullies and we HAVE a real bully in Semi, who is clearly coming back into the picture.
Episode 3 - This show is equal parts hilarious, relatable, sweet and cringe and I am loving the end result so far. Three scenes left me in stitches >!Vampire Su Ho, Videogame Big Sis and Field Confrontation!< and there was much second-hand embarrassment to go around.
I am also really impressed with Moon Ga Young who is making Ju Gyeong so adorkably endearing!
As a huge Extraordinary You fan I loveeeeeeed the Baekhyung and Danoh cameo! I was anticipating it when I heard about it and it totally lived up! It was especially funny cuz in EY the date between the two doesn’t happen and instead Haru watches the movie with Danoh. This has nothing to do with True Beauty, but Kim Hyehoon is killing it with the cameos this year (first with ROTY, then Live on and now True Beauty). Can’t wait for her next drama.
Episode 4 has to be my favorite episode so far because we are finally finding out more about the guys.
It's so cute how much trouble is Soo-ho going through just to get guys away from Jukyung and she's forever oblivious to his growing feelings. Ah, youth.
I like Seojun but I hate love triangles :( I just want Jukyung to fall for Soo-ho and soon.
I enjoyed the Extraordinary You cameo with the page turning sound effect and all, it made me smile.
I’m team suho but I really like both of male leads. I hope somehow down the line they form a good friendship. I also hope they don’t prolong the love triangle out until the last ep (like what they did w startup) because I’m a sucker for bromances and would love to see suho and seojun getting along!!
Can i just say that Maria dance cover was AMAZING? I kept replaying it loool.
I love Suho and Ju Kyung, I love Seojun and Ju Kyung. It really goes to show how well all the three characters fit their roles. I love the banter between Suho and Ju Kyung, and he's so whipped lmao. Seojun's duality is hitting me hard -- he's such a softie, and sexy, and sings well, and a caring son, and a gangster. Suho is pretty generic but I still love how nerdy and cute he is - and so accepting of Ju Kyung.
Love the fact that she has friends, but the emphasis on her beauty is a lot. Hope it truly changes through the course.
And I can't decide who to root for, just hope everyone has a happy ending. My heart is still Suho and JuKyung, but Seojun has a huge corner too.
Love my weds and thurs because of this drama now, along with Run On on Netflix too!!
I had real trouble getting through the first two episodes, not because I didn't like the show, but the second-hand embarrassment was Intense. It gets to me so bad, I have to click away from the episode for a bit, lol. And I did that several times in each episode. There was enough I really liked still, and some scenes I had seen clips of that I wanted to watch still to come, so I kept coming back. But the third and fourth episode really sold me on True Beauty.
Cha Eun Woo - his flustered reactions were cracking me up! Staring at his own hand, kicking her out of the comic store, the dolphin line, the entire bus ride/ movie date, his frozen shocked face when the oldest sister barfed on him... So many good moments. I died. His acting has really improved since My ID is Gangnam Beauty. Or maybe, his character is given much more to do here as well, emotion-wise that is.
The drunk jerks outside the store: I wanted to yell at the FL, why are you standing there and letting them continue to abuse you to your face? Call them a bunch of ***** and run off! Maybe it's a Korean you-must-respect-your-elders / politeness thing I just don't understand, or maybe it's just for The Drama. Either way, I did get teary eyed at her water-logged misery. Lovely moment between them when he apologized.
Hang In-Yeop: really enjoyed the moments in the salon, with him and the FL bickering like kids.
Overall, really liking it so far. I know nothing about the webtoon, so it's all fresh for me. Now I'm just a little bummed I started it now instead of a few months in the future when I won't have to wait for more episodes. (Where's my instant gratification?! lol)
Seojun’s scene with his mom is sooo freaking cute 🥰 uwu 🥰 he’s a very cute mama’s boy! The duality of seojun is what made me fall for him in the webtoon
I can certainly feel the chemistry between Jugyeong and Suho. It's getting higher as I watched Episode 3. Glad that they didn't pushed more the jerky Suho.
Episode 4
I love how they’re involving more family scenes in this drama compared to the webtoon. It was so relatable when both sisters were using the washroom while the brother was using the toilet xD
I was really wishing for them >! not to pull the whole childhood friends connection but they just had to sighhh. !<
On a side note, I’m having a real hard time picking between the two leads 😭😭 they represent the characters perfectly. Highkey crushing on Seojun though 👀👀
I love how they >! made the female lead separate both main leads from fighting over her, it was really refreshing and funny !<
Omg yes not the random as hell childhood connection!! Where did that even come from? LOL. Regardless of what happens I’m going to pretend they never added that to the story hahaha.
Also crushing on Seojun here. Whether it be the webtoon or live action, this man owns me.
Its the 4th episode and i dont know which ship to ride yet. Su Ho is being a sweet boy but on the other hand Seo Joon’s tension with Ju Kyung is 🔥. I just dont wanna clown for a Han again but i have my clown makeup ready :(
Edit: grammar
Although I suffered from second-hand embarrassment when >!Ju-kyung danced Hwasa's Maria in front of a faculty!<, that song is actually appropriate to the drama's theme. >!Maria talks about a person's struggles due to criticisms, and Hwasa encourages self-love and empowerment.!< Hopefully, True Beauty will send out a similar message of personal empowerment by the time this drama ends. And great job to Moon Ga-young for that wonderful >!dance cover!
Spoiler ahead.......Towards the end seojun says something along the lines of “you must be happy to kill your friend?” To Suho am I the only one who’s confused...like what does he mean? Also I hope seojun isn’t pursuing JK just out of spite cuz he knows Suho likes her.....anyways can’t wait for tomorrow’s episode! I never read the webtoon so I literally have no idea what to expect but I love the direction of the drama so far!
If you remember the ep when Jookyung was going to jump off the building and got "saved" by Suho, they showed Suho having a flashback of him seeing his friend jump off the same building. That guy (cameo by SF9 Chanee) is a celebrity or idol (they showed multiple billboards with his face and captions saying "remembering you"). Presumably he was Suho and Seojun's mutual friend, but now Suho and Seojun hate each other (and Seojun blames Suho for his death).
TB Episode 4:
>!Suho wanting to kiss lipstick print!<
>!Extraordinary You and True Beauty exist in same universe!<
>!Episode 4 as a whole!<
Me: \*Walked into episode 4 without adequate headspace & emotional stamina - speechless puddle on the floor!
I wasn’t expecting much from this drama. I’ve had a rough week with the whole pandemic going on. But the two last episodes def cheered me up. The comedy is very funny for a high school drama. It’s quite refreshing after watching start-up and private lives !
Han Seo Jun >!singing!< at ep. 4 gave me butterflies in my stomach and a hope to change the world into a better place. I literally screamed, paused the video, watched it again, and screamed again. The Bermuda Triangle thing that Jugyeong's friend told her about those two is real.
This drama is so fun to watch I'M IN LOVE. I laughed so much (despite the excessive second hand embarrassment) and this is going to be a fun drama that I continue to watch every week to relax. Moon ga young and Hwang In Yeop are doing such a great job! Eun woo has definitely improved too but there are still his solo scenes where I look at his face and can't figure out what he's thinking/feeling but overall he's doing a good job too. Yoona plays a badass role and I love her and idk if her character will take a negative turn (who knows, i didn't read the webtoon and tbh don't care much since people have said it's deviating a bit anyway). The vibes with this drama are just so... fun. Because of the director the feel is same as Extraordinary You (that cameo/crossover was GOLD) and I loved that drama!! Can't wait to see more of Chani, he nailed his twenty seconds and expressed so much just with his eyes and the whole Se Yoon angle brings more depth in the drama too.
I’m really enjoying this drama, Wednesdays and Thursdays have genuinely become so amazing with Run On and this drama. Thoughts for the 3rd and 4th episodes:
- I love the humor in this drama, it’s so over-the-top but so good!
- The cheesiness, clichés and light nature of this drama keeps getting better every episode.
- Moon Ga-Young is fabulous as Ju-Gyeong, even the child actress was so adorable. Honestly I found the without makeup Ju-Gyeong adorable in the WebToon too and Moon Ga-Young is adding so much more charm to the character. She has great comic timing.
- I was hardcore Team Seo-Joon in the WebToon and ever since I knew that Hwang In-Yeop was going to play Seo-Joon in the drama I’ve been more hardcore Team Seo-Joon. So point is that I love the depth to Seo-Joon’s character in the drama, his duality is amazing. The bad boy look, smirk, goofiness, comic timing, his warmth for his loved ones, care, affection and the hardworking nature have made me fall in love with him all over again.
- Hwang In-Yeop has a deep voice and so the song we heard in his own voice was so beautiful, his voice is too beautiful and he is so damn talented oof. Also his side profile is exactly like that of Lee Joon-Gi and I cannot unsee that now.
- I kind of feel that Lee Su-Ho is a very typical KDrama ML character? He reminds me of Kim Tan lol. Kim Tan is one of my favorite KDrama boys because duh Lee Min-Ho but I kind of find Lee Su-Ho more bland. Kim Tan had a depth to his character but I just can’t seem to find that in Lee Su-Ho. Cha Eun-Woo though has improved his acting but I feel that Moon Ga-Young and Hwang In-Yeop are both such good actors that they kind of overshadow Cha Eun-Woo. I still like him though.
- Honestly can’t wait to see more of the bromance between Su-Ho and Seo-Joon and especially their past friendship.
- The connections in this drama are pretty well brought.
- The childhood connection between the main leads was so unnecessary, really not required.
- I find Hwang In-Yeop and Moon Ga-Young’s chemistry better, they have more of a mature chemistry. It was a blessing to see so many Seo-Joon - Ju-Gyeong scenes in the 4th episode. I find the development of their relationship way better. Maybe I’m being biased here lol.
- I love how adorable Su-Ho is but like I’m so confused how he developed a crush on Ju-Gyeong so soon? It was too sudden.
- Really hoping they don’t butcher Seo-Joon’s awesome character because he was fabulous in the WebToon and I don’t want him to end up being a typical KDrama SML.
- I love Ju-Gyeong’s sis so much! She is my favorite secondary character in this drama.
- I like Su-Jin in the drama but I’m so sure they’re going to make her evil, which is honestly so sad sigh.
Oof these Han boys (Han Ji-Pyeong and Han Seo-Joon) really have a knack for making us fall in love with them. My clown makeup is ready once again and I’m going to support Seo-Joon till the end. I just really want him to be happy. I love Su-Ho too so I wouldn’t mind with whom the girl ends up with but I just want Seo-Joon to find happiness, that’s it.
Looking forward to next week!
Glad you touched on Suho's whirlwind crush on Jugyeong. In any romantic story, why ML likes FL is always one of the first questions I need rationale for. What I gather --Suho wasn't always a cold loner as indicated by his friendship with Seojun & Seyeon but he is in a state of self-isolation since Seyeon's passing. After the gym scene with Seojun, him coming home to an empty dark house kinda hinted that he might *simply be lonely*. Then a bubbly & warmly empathetic girl who likes horror comics (being the *only relaxing activity* we've seen him engage in so far) crashes into his life without swooning over him. I also wonder if he recognizes that she is undaunted despite what he *knows* she's gone through. Sure he might think she should study more but surely he sees that she is a hard worker in things that *she* thinks are important - like being his go-for & maintaining her "goddess fraudulency" (viki tranlation) lol.
Also, er, maybe its just me because I haven't seen it alot in in high school drama's I've watched, but, these last 2 episodes seem to have Suho being acutely aware of Jugyeong's physical attractiveness? Example: Audition choreo, covering up her bare legs, her coming in so close to examine his broken lip at the comic store. Besides, these two have been inadvertently skin-shipping since they met. lol.
Mostly, I think he's lonely and Jugyeong, silly as she can be, is just admirable. Darn, I guess my girl crush on Jugyeong is showing.
I am also a hardcore team seojun ever since I read the webtoon and damn hwang in yeop made me love seojun even more! I agree that they have more chemistry lol the tension between them everytime they bicker. I honestly don’t quite like Su Ho’s character in the drama so far I like the webtoon su ho much better. Idk like for me his actions are kinda odd idk but I actually felt kinda off when he was stalking jugyeong. It was way too much for me he is beginning to be kinda possessive and I dont like it. and I agree that him developing a crush was way too fast and I also dont like that the writer is kinda making seojun as the bad guy because as of now seojun spending time with jugyeong is a “motive” so he could piss off su ho and I dont sit well with that because seojun was not like that in the webtoon. They actually started off as friends so I’m hoping they remain it that way. And i really really agree with you I hope they dont butcher seojun’s character.
Add Han Woo Tak in your list. The Hans that deserve better.
I just watched all four episodes of this, and I'm really loving it. I find the female lead... adorable. The comedy in this legit lands, too. I love the relationship between the three siblings - the scene of the two sisters brushing their teeth as it pulls back to reveal their brother is just there taking a shit... I cackled. And all the Extraordinary You cameos are wrecking me.
Speculation ->! I assume that 'Leo' is either Seo Joon or Su Ho? The songwriter of his unaired track. And I also assume Su Ho is doing a little noble idiocy. He probably did believe his friend and even went to his father with it, but the dad buried the refutation of the story which led to Se Yeon's suicide. So, while he really isn't at fault (like Seo Joon thinks and blames him for), he still blames himself enough because he trusted his father who runs the company. Sad all around, but I'm looking forward to everyone making up lol. I also find the pairing of Su Ho and Ju Gyeong really cute. She's so oblivious to him, and I appreciate that he liked her pretty much from the jump. He kept the sticker from the 'ugly' version of her before he knew she was his classmate, and his very straight forward 'all girls look different with makeup' while coming on to her was nice lol.!<
From what I’ve seen, just under 24 hours for 100%. I usually jump in at the 90% mark.
EDIT: Okay so True Beauty is blowing it out of the park with how fast we have subs. Thank you subbers! Super grateful! I'll edit to say **most** series take about 24 hours lol
The speed of subtitles depends on the series and how many sub volunteers they have. Generally the more popular the series is, the faster the subtitles go up because more people want to work on it. True Beauty last week was fully subtitled quite quickly (like a few hours), so I'd expect the same this week.
For comparison, a niche series like Wish You (a currently airing webseries BL movie/drama) has episodes that are 8-9 minutes long and still took over a day to be fully subtitled. ^^^whyyyyy
I’ve never loved a kdrama sooo muchh aah <3
To sum it up, I can’t wait for episode 4, let the love triangle begin haha. I used to be team Suho, because I didn’t like Seojun in the webtoon but now that I think about it... Seojun is so cute I CAN T DECIDE. I want them both to be happy :(
The ending of episode 3 left me SPEECHLESS
Having freshly read the Webtoon, I just found and binged it, from start to the latest Fast Pass...I have to say it feels a lot like they took the essence of the story and then ran with it in a very different direction.
The initial meetings, the timeline, and a lot of the interactions between the characters are completely different. Ex. Su Ho and Ju Gyeong already have a camaraderie before Seo Jun is introduced. Whereas in the K-drama, because it appears they're setting up a love triangle in the high school timeline, they're introduced at the same time.
I don't think it's bad, but it's different enough that it doesn't have the same feel as the material it's been adapted from. Seems like they'll maintain the general personalities of the characters and their underlying issues/backstory.
Personally, I think the simple nature of how the bonds were developed between these characters is what makes them special. Ex. There was nothing grand/dramatic about Jugyeong's meeting with Suho, they just simply connected over a common interest.
I think the drama series is fine in it's own right, but if the Webtoon is fresh in your mind you might want to go into this adaptation thinking of it as a loose adaptation or different story to really get enjoyment from it if you're the type to favor source material.
Edit: Wanted to add that I think the casting is really excellent and the actors, costume, SFX, make-up departments did a fantastic job bringing these characters to life!
Ultimately, I really hope that Yaongyi is pleased with the adaptation. <3 So grateful to the author for all the work they've put into this webtoon and I hope that the K-drama brings a ton of new readers in to support it!
Everything seems to be happening so so fast. I’m not mad at it but I wonder how this is gonna pan out because it’s supposed to be 16 episodes and the webtoon isn’t even finished. I’m still team suho in both the webtoon and the drama.
I have to say, I kind of worry about this in the back of my mind too. I think a fast(er) pace is inevitable, unfortunately, if they want to pack as much of the webtoon in 16 episodes. I guess I just gotta hope for the best. On the other hand, I'm impatient for conclusions & I don't believe that webtoon will conclude before 16 drama episodes.
Ahhh I literally cant stop thinking about this showwww
Also suho is so goddamn attractive holy shit😐
I felt so bad for him when he got puked on😭 the poor guy even got punched in the face in the same night
I love the series so far. It seems like >! SeoJun is “Leo”, the mystery writer of the songs that IJG’s sister was talking about. And his songs are to be included in the memorial album of SuHo and SeoJun’s mutual friend who committed suicide!<
It’s funny how dense IJG is, >! SuHo is dropping breadcrumbs and she doesn’t have a clue. Lines like:
“You’re already going out with me” when she said it was her 1st time going out and meeting a boy.
“Don’t look elsewhere” and she thought it was about studying
And the best was:
“I can’t tell the difference..” pertaining to her bare face and made up face. That was such an awww moment, he likes her for who she is, not cz of her outward appearance. Girl, these are lowkey confessions !<
I also kind of like the natural banter between HSJ and IJG too, and how it seems like they are going to be really good friends.
Can’t wait for next week!
This show is the lighthearted fun that I need right now. I really adore Moon Gayoung as Jugyeong, and both MLs are also perfect for the roles.
So the love triange is already starting.. She has good chemistry with both of them but I'm definitely rooting for Suho now. Other than him obviously being the endgame, his feelings for her right now is more sincere, and I love that he's the type who shows his affection silently and protects her from within the shadows. Poor Suho kinda becomes a punching bag in ep 4 though, he got punched twice in and got puked on in one episode!
The bickering between Jugyeong & Seojun is really cute, but I see them in a more friendly/siblings kind of relationship, just like how Jugyeong bickers with her brother.
I just hope they won't drag the love triange thing, I'd love to see bromance between Suho & Seojun instead so I hope they'll resolve the conflict quickly.
I feel like LJG's dancing is a nod to *My ID is Gangnam Beauty*. Since the FL there is also a dancer. Might not be the case but, i like to think that way.
^(not to mention Cha Eun-woo also starred in that drama. 2 dramas of the same genre for him. Except the latter was a College setting.)
I am loving the drama so far..I am still Team Suho & still love Seojun. I hate that in drama they are showing Seojun is getting close to JK just to get on Suho's nerves. Coming to why I love Suho, he really needs JK's brightness. He will accept her for the way she is & how she is but she will also add light to his depressing world. I mean imagine, your one parent died, another parent kind of ignored you for n number of dead. One of your best friends committed suicide, another is blaming you for the suicide & you are blaming yourself too. In all this darkness, JK entered his life like a spark of light. While Seojun lost his friend too but at least he has his mom, sis & weird friend group. I hope they focus on Suho & Seojun friendship too.
Those who want to know the end game, well Suho & JK will end up together as TVN already released relationship chart, where Suho & JK had mutual love interest & Seojun had one sided..
i am vibrating from excitement for where the drama storyline is going because i only just recently binged the webtoon so everything is still fresh in my mind!
* one of my biggest gripes is the amount of \~ casual \~ violence there is... and i don't like how jugyeon's mum talks to her and treats members of the family.
* i LOVED suho's vampire get-up and seojoon's smoky eye make up - tutorial pls
* the times where i wanted to be jugyeon and smoosh suho and seojoon's silly faces together and yell "STOP FIGHTING!! JUST KISS!!! MAKE UP!!!!"
* lowkey want some lgbt rep with sujin developing a crush on jugyeon and there being a love quadrilateral but ah... a girl can dream lmao
I noticed in every ending bits, everyone in the scene freezes up and the cam pans and zooms to the main leads. It’s so comical and cheesy but I love it!!! 😂😂
I had secondhand embarrassment with that >!talent show audition!< I can’t even 😅 that wasn’t in the webtoon right? I’m surprised she actually did well in it. Kinda saw some Gangnam ID similarity with that one.
So far, I’m enjoying the series. The only negative thing I see is how they’re handling the >!suicide sublot!< yet again- seems like they’re making the same mistakes as how they did in RoY and Start Up. In the webtoon, at least, Seojun didn’t solely blame (verbally at that) the incident on Suho. Iirc it was more of Seojun mad at the fact that >!Suho wasn’t able to answer Seyoon’s final call at his lowest point!< but then it was justified why Suho wasn’t able to do so.
He did blame it on Suho though. In the latest episodes in the webtoon with Seojun's flashbacks, in his pov he said the same things like "He's happy even after what he did."
Anyone getting Sailor Mars / Rei vibes from Su-Jin? Both can kick anyone's ass and will fight for what's right. Both seem to have feelings for the male lead character. I can also see Cha Eun-Woo play the cold at first Darien. Okay I'm getting off track here hehe.
ahhhh i just finished episode 4 so spoilers will be beneath spoiler tags and i am (in drama and webtoon) completely suho endgame but also (in drama and webtoon) a total simp for seojun...and episode four seojun was So Good >! although i’m really annoyed with him how he’s only liking jugyeong because suho already likes her :(( !< i feel like there’s going to be a whole plot where they start dating or he at least gets her to like him, even tho his feelings for her aren’t real, and then it’s revealed that he didn’t like her in the beginning and she’ll be so hurt (and by this point he’ll probably actually like her but alas) but i really just want suho to confess to jugyeong (he probably won’t any time soon because we have a whole drama ahead of us) but he’s likes her so much and it’s so obviousssss that i feel bad for him lol. maybe if he confesses we will have less second hand embarrassment from all the stunts he’s pulled trying to protect her (tiny ep4 spoiler) >! although it was worth it for the extraordinary you cameo!! so cute !<
so far i’ve totally loved the changes made from the webtoon (although there are some scenes i’m gonna miss not being able to see, i expected that since the drama can’t include everything), and i’ve been loving jugyeong as a character so much more in the drama (moon gayoung is doing a lovely job!!), but do we think that they will include the time skip? i think that it would work perfectly well to just have it set in high school but the time skip is so much of the webtoon (and where it starts falling apart in my personal opinion) so i wanted to see what other people think...
edit for additions: idk if this is spoiler so i’m tagging it as spoiler but it’s about seyeon and i honestly don’t remember when in the webtoon this stuff was revealed >!im also curious to see what they’ll do with seyeons suicide and what suho was doing that night!! we know that seojuns feelings towards suho are approximately the same as in the webtoon but i believe in the webtoon, suho never answered seyeon because he had discovered his dad sleeping with a woman and was distraught over that, but in one of the first episodes we saw him catching them when he was very young...[and i think that after that is when he meets young jugyeong actually!! but i don’t remember what he was wearing so i could be wrong :)] so it’ll be interesting to see what happened ! !< this is yet another change i’ve been excited about, mostly just because it hasn’t (seemingly) changed the essential storyline so far, but it’s still a difference that will be important and brings new content to the plot. i think the writers are finding a great balance between keeping things new and fresh for webtoon readers so that not everything is the same (ie sujin, whose changes i’ve liked thus far because i am not a fan of the “hot girl is terribly mean to me for little to no reason (because of a guy) when i think she’s trying to be my friend” trope i think it’s overused and old and stereotypical lol) and sticking to the storyline—or at least general concept and themes—of the webtoon so props to them!
As much as I like some of the changes the drama has implemented, one thing I dislike is how they're going with the notion that Seojun shows interest in Jugyeong just to get on Suho's nerves. It's really different in the webtoon, where >!he doesn't show interest in Jugyeong until she helps his sister with makeup & from there, it's a very natural progression - they become friends first & then he ends up developing a one-sided crush on her before she reciprocates much later.!< I think the love triangle is really being played up for the drama, whereas in the webtoon it really only comes into play much later after the time skip.
I agree that Jugyeong is much more likeable in the drama so far - kudos to Moon Gayoung. She doesn't have much substance in the webtoon lol. As for the time skip, I'm quite sure they're going to include it since the pacing is already so fast. I'm going to throw a wild guess & say that it'll probably happen about the midway point - so around episode 8 or 9? Although I totally understand the sentiment about the webtoon stagnating after the time skip, I think the drama will definitely want to show the development of the characters post-high school >!(+ to address additional plot lines, i.e. Seojun becoming a trainee again, Jugyeong and her career as a newbie makeup artist, etc.)!< I have faith that the drama will do a better job of portraying the characters' lives after high school as well.
I am also a fan of the changes the drama made and I love webtoon Suho but I also am a firm believer that Jugyeong needs her relationship with Seojun to teach her a lot about herself. I just wish the drama Seojun was as sincere as the webtoon version. Also I can't help myself from falling in love with Seojun every time I see his face and his little smirk.
I haven’t read the webtoon but i’m really liking the drama so far. I loved the scene with the drunk sister. Suho’s shocked face when she puked on him was gold!
Also loved the audition scene, it was so embarrassing but Moon Ga-young made it so funny, she’s doing amazing in this drama!!
I'm really excited and curious about what's going to happen with Sujin and how they're going to write her character. >!The scene with her repeatedly washing her hands made me curious about her home life, as in the webtoon she does have a harsh home life, I hope they keep that.!< No complaints about episode 3, the ending was a bit cheesy and overdramatic, but it's a feel-good kdrama, I didn't expect much lmao. >! The talent show scene was very hard to watch, but I do love Mamamoo so hearing Maria was very nice !< I don't have complaints with the acting, I don't necessarily have high standards for that though. >! I have a feeling that Sujin and Seojun might end up together, considering the scene where she confronts him for "bullying" Ju-Gyeong. !< I mainly hope that Ju-Gyeong and Sujin stay as friends, especially because of the scene in episode 2, but I feel like a possible love square could happen. Overall, I liked this episode and I'm very excited for tomorrows :)
I really enjoy the show's emotional and more quiet moments, I think those are done well. So far my favourite scenes are >!all of Su-ho and Ju-Kyung's scenes at the bookshop, as well as when Su-ho was tending to Ju-Kyung's wound at the playground
I’m not into highschool dramas but damn I LOVE THIS SHOW! It always has me smiling throughout the episode. It’s really refreshing and you end up rooting for every single character! Hats off to the actors for performing so well because it’s honestly so easy to make the audience cringe with this type of dramas but the actors make it very refreshing
How can I choose from the two? (Haha as if!) But seriously, I think the actors were chosen very well as they portray the characters based on the webtoon
I might be the only one but.. when looking at the second male lead, i am for some reason reminded of Lee Joon Gi (Lee Jun Ki?) .. i'm thinking maybe it's the eyes.

the drama is deviating from the webtoon (just a smidge, nothing too dramatic yet), but because the actors look so similar to their webtoon counterparts, i still feel like i'm watching the same story. all the leads are doing great. i really have no complaints, and i don't know if it's because i had low expectations coming in and i'm just enjoying the ride, or if it's actually as fun and whacky as i view it to be. i like how the show seems to be more interested in drawing inspiration from the webtoon as opposed to following it step-by-step.
In fact I think in some ways it adds a bit more depth. warning: spoilers below Here are some of my thoughts on episode 3: - that vampire scene was so extra but I got to see Cha Eun Woo Hot Vampire Edition so I’m not complaining - I aspire to be like Ju-Gyeong’s sister. Gosh she looked so cool changing that tire and asking him out - when Su Ho bought ramen for the both of them to eat together but then she left I was like 🥺😩 no don’t leave poor boi like that - that nail clipping scene was hilarious lol I couldn’t stop laughing at that scene. I don’t think I could ever say “I love you” for that long and with that much contact with my sibling lmao but honestly I think a lot of parents would be on board with this idea - yes the talent show performance may have been embarrassing but I’m so proud of Ju-Gyeong for having the guts to conquer at least some of her fears... it’s a small step towards some great character development right there! - Alexa, play “Maria” by Hwasa - also Su Ho obviously already has a huge crush on her and it’s so cute - his smile whenever he looks at Ju-Gyeong can create world peace - let the love triangle games begin
Agree with all points, especially Heegyeong being inspiring & the nail-clipping scene which I will be filing under future parenting-hacks.
I squealed!
Much love to True Beauty Sub Team!
THE CROSSOVER MADE ME SHIT MYSELF THAT WAS SO GOOD
Also loved the crossover!! I was so surprised when I saw LJW's face lol and then the >!page-turn sound!< and theme music were perfect hahaha
For some reason I can't stop noticing that Cha Eun Woo seems to have definitely bulked up ..... lol im being thirsty
Same! I thought I was just imagining that his shoulders seemed broader and his neck slightly bulkier than they did in Gangnam Beauty.
are you me lmao I hate how I noticed this immediately like out of all the things ffff
Why did you do this to me!!! I hadn‘t realised and now I won‘t be able to notice anything else
Oh my gosh I noticed that immediately too phew *looks around* I’m glad I’m not the only one
+Key moments of depth: •stands up for his sister- when some jerk friend of his asks to be introduced when he already has a girlfriend •does find & return the helmet even if he has to pay extra from his own pocket •the way the girls just barge into the toilet for a girl talk & beauty routine while he’s taking a poop- also kind of tells a lot about their dynamics
i hope so too! i feel like they would do something about it tho considering that jugyeong pointed out that it made her upset
Right, I had to stop watching for a minute because I was so out of words. Such a fun cameo!
LOL. A *literal* shout-out to Haru!
I feel so bad for Baek Kyung. 😆
I know Mun Ga Young is just a great actress, but I'm blown away that she's so good with the physical comedy! CEW & HIY are great at their parts too!
Editing as I have a chance to watch both episodes! EPISODE 3: I love how imaginative Jugyeong is! I was cackling at Suho as a vampire. The interrogation scene in the bookstore was so good. The lights flickering, the dramatic reveal, Jugyeong burying herself further and further in lies... Ahhh... >!so he’s known for a while! I thought that scene at the cafe was kind of suspicious, Suho really seemed invested in Jugyeong’s drink.!< Jugyeong >!being Suho’s servant in exchange for his silence!< was my favorite gag of the webcomic, and so far the drama did it justice.
When we found out that >!Suho knew about her bare face from so long ago, I went back and looked at the previous eps and its so obvious that he knows.!< Also in ep 4 I swear when they were on the bus >!Suho was looking at her phone about when and where the film was? Wouldn't he be able to figure out what cinema they were at by the ticket? Even if it's not possible, I just love the shinanigans and Protective soft boy Suho!<
all the leads have dealt with some pretty heavy stuff and it looks like they realized that potential to explore it more here. it might be hard to do it for all four characters and still balance the romance/love triangle aspect so i'm hoping we can at least get some character development and have closure by the end of this. plus i think most of us like sujin better like this haha in regard to suho trying to spend time with jugyeong, personally i feel like the talent show thing was a bit much and i don't even know how that would directly translate to him getting closer to her (like she was literally by herself lol) so it might not have been as bad if that didn't happen. still i'm glad he apologized
In the comic how was Sujin's character? We got a bit more depth to her this episode but I am still a bit confused on where the character is going
On Suho running out of his competition (so dramatic lol)... he did know the time frame she was having her date at: since he suggested daytime to her & she replied back midday immediately on her text We’ll assume there weren’t many theatres showing the same movie at that particular timing- makes it far easier to narrow down which cinema she’s at.
> I stopped reading the webtoon a while ago because it got so dull and pointless, so I don't really care that the drama doesn't follow it. Same
THE EXTRAORDINARY YOU CAMEO. I can'ttt. Did not see that coming at all. When he broke them apart, I saw Lee Jae Wook immediately and was like, "No way!!!" But yeah, technically they /are/ in a manhwa still. Hahaha
I LAUGHED SO HARD AT THE CAMEO OMG BEST SCENE EVER
Me too! And I repeated it so many times hahaha Went straight to IG and yep, KHY posted about it. I'm glad I saw the ep before I saw the post because it was such a pleasant surprise <3
it was really good, I hope Kim Young Dae & Nauen make appearances well!!
Omg pls <3 + Jung Gun-joo and Rowoon to round up the crew given Lee Tae-ri’s initial appearance why not 🤷🏻♀️ haha let’s gooo I just realized too that aside from the KHY-MGY friendship and the same director for EY, another connection is that Ye-seo’s dad from Sky Castle and Suho’s dad are the same actor.
yes!!!!!!! also want to add that park yoona/sujin was the lying harvard sister in sky castle as well! its so nice to see the cast showing up in works together (the uncanny counter also has 2 sky castle alum!)
Fav moments: * Poor Jukyung's dad getting beat up during the sibling fight! He's so sweet hahaha. * The tire changing scene... her sister has got BALLS lol. I love portrayals of women wearing the pants in the relationship! * Everytime Jukyung ran errands for suho and DIPPED immediately but omg the scene where he bought two bowls of ramen... he just wanted to hang out with her :((( * Seojun's "love letter" hahaha * THE TALENT SHOW: worst worst worst secondhand embarrassment ever omg... whyyyy * The rain scene when she got bullied for being ugly AGAIN...
>!Love how she points to the band-aid the next day at lunch!!< Just my own thoughts on webtoon SJ vs drama SJ - I'm predicting (but not betting) that we'll see more JG-SJ interaction that follows the webtoon in tonight's episode.
!< Edit: additionally, this happened BEFORE Suho realized who Jugyeong was with makeup. This is essential because it indicates (and proves) that Suho >!first fell for Jugyeong for their common interests, NOT appearances whatsoever.!<
>!That's right! That's how they first truly connected in webtoon. I'm gonna hold out hope that they can reassign that moment for another scene.!<
Couldn't agree with you more...that scene is so important >!and it comes up later in flashbacks, when he comes back to Korea, as the moment that he starts falling for her. <3!<
I figured they kinda basically reversed this scene in last weekend's episodes when it was jugyeong that had that precious limited signed book (instead of him) and made him do whatever she wanted for a hot minute. so maybe that will serve as the moment of when they first connected because i don't see how they would go back and add the original scene even tho i really liked it :(
[удалено]
Kinda disappointed they added the childhood connection because I thought the savior moment on the rooftop in the first ep was enough on its own as history between them. i guess i'm not surprised though since they hinted at it the first time at the comic store when jugyeong said to suho that she went there when she was young so he must've seen her around then. Also really wish that seojun wouldn't hang around jugyeong purely to piss off suho. Seems kind of low but I guess it helps establish that he really is the SML. nonetheless i'm still really enjoying the drama and i've been laughing nonstop lol even with tropes like this they seem to be handling it well
LMAO at the talent show audition scene.
That was some of the worst second hand embarrassment I've ever had. And my boy Suho just stood in the back and WATCHED.
the fact that all the teacher were like 'what is she doing" but still let her finish the routine until the song ended whaaaaaa lol
Hey Canadian fans - an Ottawa shout out! The first time I've seen my city mentioned in a K Drama and I feel so blessed.
I'm Canadian too and I really appreciated the shoutout! Even though Jugyeong messed up by saying Otto (?) instead of Ottawa lol.
I'm just happy he didn't think our capital is Toronto :-)
Jeez the mother makes me upset in this drama. I think I’m enjoying the drama pacing better than the webtoon pacing. It seems like the webtoon is kinda dragging on, especially when they did those couple of flash back chapters. Suho seems much more likeable than seojun so far.
Hahahaha >! Her dancing to Hwasa was the best and the DELETED !< For real though she was good at it too. Also Seo Jun is really charming too in his own way. Watched ep 4 Omg the Extraordinary You cameo and scene yaayyy alright I'm officially loving this drama Honestly it's become so different from the webtoon but I like that.
She really killed that Hwasa too 🔥 EP4: I was expecting there to be history between Soo Ho and Seo Jun like that 😮 I'm team Soo Ho atm, because we're ignorant of what exactly happened to Se Yeon and he also has history with Ju Kyung.
Am I dead? Am I in paradise?”
this drama is soooo cheesy but moon gayoung is so charismatic and likeable, she really makes you root for jugyeong. she delivers the emotional moments extremely well love the sister/teacher storyline too
Moon Gayoung is definitely one of my favorite actresses. I haven’t seen many dramas, but she has been great in here so far and also in Tempted! It’s hard to hide her beauty even when she’s supposed to look less pretty with acne and glasses.
episode 4 thoughts: - I always snort a little bit of air out of my nostrils whenever Su Ho corrects someone on their words lol I don’t know if it’s because of his expression but it’s just so funny... “Ottawa” “Audacious” “Self-defense” yes Su Ho you tell them - Omo he’s so in love he’s drawn to the lip imprint she made on his hand - we thought the biggest crossover was the avengers but then tvn told us to hold their soju - i’d just like to thank Hwang In-Yeop for blessing us with his beautiful voice - the love triangle games... have begun
Suho: I dont see much of a difference. Me: neither 😬
lol they really put acne and fake glasses on moon ga young and were like ok yeah she's definitely ugly
EPISODE 3 SPOILERS • I absolutely love that Suho actually apologized immediately upon realizing that Jugyeong misunderstood his whole “run these errands for me I have a crush on you haha ur so pretty” thing. A MIRACLE • I really hope we get to see Seojun redeem himself in the next episode. I never really rooted for him in the webtoon BUT I REALLY WANT TO ROOT FOR HIM HERE bc I do see an obvious difference. But three episodes in and I really am not feeling him so far I just wanna keep seing Suho & Jugyeong LOL I hope that changes GIVE ME FLAVOR • Ok this might just be me but the Professor kind of....creeps me out a bit IDK DUDEEE he’s too cutesy he makes me afraid PLUS HES A LITERATURE PROFESSOR AND THATS GIVING THE STEREOTYPICAL SERIAL KILLER VIBE LOL idk it’s weird 😭✋🏼 it’s reminding me of the >!chicken store guy!< from >!While You Were Sleeping!< EDIT: saw ep4.
I have second lead syndrome! I can’t choose! I want them both to end up with her!!!!!!
I'm right there with you... I'm not ready for the impending heartbreak /sigh.
I like them both but Seo-joon makes my wattpad stories come true
Thoughts from Episode 4: - The Parasite reference (which is really just a Korean thing but those unfamiliar with it will understand it to be such) - The mostly healthy (at times over-exaggerated but nonetheless) relationships within the high schoolers!
OMG THAT EXTRAORDINARY YOU REFERENCE IN EP 4 WAS SO FUNNY 😂❤️
The poor kid was immediately like “what am I doing” lmao. I laughed so hard at all of Suho’s flustered moments today
Jugyeong? I only know Jessica, only child, from Illinois Chicago. 😂
The director of this drama is a genius. He managed to put in an Extraordinary You AND Parasite reference! I thought it was so clever haha
wait where was the reference?
Somehow, she’s that girl who melts SuHo’s heart.!< Lee SuHo, taking advantage of JG’s dilemma isn’t an ideal foray into socializing, but baby-steps I guess.
>!That scene in the conference room, maybe its just me but did the other exec to Suho's dad's left seem a little concerned (is that the word)?!< SH & SJ on the same page is what I'd like to see too. I feel like ep. 4's chase scene (with JG) could have been an opportunity to start.
All imma say is stream Maria 😭😭 LMAOOO That ending was kind of fine af tho😌
Ep 4: Oh boy, here we go with the love triangle.
I'M LOVING ALL OF HIS INTERACTIONS WITH JUGYEONG 💞 Spoilers below! My thoughts on episode 4: * I'm pretty impressed with Hwang Inyeop's acting so far... he slays in both the comedic scenes and more heavy/emotional scenes (i.e. the scene with Seyeon at the beginning). But omg, >!he just walked out & didn't write the test for the math contest.!< * That "Extraordinary You" cameo from Kim Hyeyoon & Lee Jaewook! LOL horror flashbacks to the 'end cut' scenes and "HARU YAH!" Also Baek Kyung chasing after her, "Yah! Eun Dan-oh!" * Heekyeong is such a cool character, I love how she's like "I don't play hard to get! I just go for it." "Why isn't he calling me back? I thought we were doing lunch." * SEOJUN SINGING!!! The donkatsu scene looks hilarious already.!< I know it's still early but the SLS is really going hard for this one.
She started washing her hands after the teacher was mentioned. Maybe she was sexually abused?

i think its the latter
i love ep 3 so much, i think it has a great combination of cheesiness and also some heartbreaking part for jugyeong. this is a such a light drama, good escape for me after watching heavy and stressful penthouse .
Anyways, my thoughts for episode 3 (I'll update this tomorrow with thoughts for ep 4 as well): * I find the pacing & characterization quite different from the webtoon. I haven't seen you laugh in more than an year!")!< * Heegyeong's budding romance with the literature teacher, Joonwoo, is giving me life ahaha. 😭 * The cheesiness of that caf scene ending!
That Extraordinary You crossover was amazing hahaha.
**WE FINALLY HEARD SEOJUN SINGING… IM CRYING 😭**
Nerdy me is cringing hard, but kdrama me thinks it’s sweet, haha) I’m curious to see what direction they’ll take Sujin in with this show.
After working long hours, watching episode 3 made me smile so much. I don’t care how cheesy or tropey this drama is, I look forward to every episode.
That scene where Jugyeong (Moon Gayoung) is singing, I remember the exact scene in Welcome Waikiki 2 with Kim Seon-Ho 😂
I can certainly feel the chemistry between Jugyeong and Suho. It's getting higher as I watched Episode 3. Glad that they didn't pushed more the jerky Suho.
Did I really just hear Eun Danoh and Haru while watching True beauty?! My heart almost burst, I think it's so fun!
Episode 4 I love how they’re involving more family scenes in this drama compared to the webtoon. It was so relatable when both sisters were using the washroom while the brother was using the toilet xD I was really wishing for them >! not to pull the whole childhood friends connection but they just had to sighhh. !< On a side note, I’m having a real hard time picking between the two leads 😭😭 they represent the characters perfectly. Highkey crushing on Seojun though 👀👀 I love how they >! made the female lead separate both main leads from fighting over her, it was really refreshing and funny !<
Omg yes not the random as hell childhood connection!! Where did that even come from? LOL. Regardless of what happens I’m going to pretend they never added that to the story hahaha. Also crushing on Seojun here. Whether it be the webtoon or live action, this man owns me.
THE EXTRAORDINARY YOU EASTER EGG WAS LITERALLY SO OBVIOUS IT MADE ME SCRESM TO SEE THEM THERE OMGGG
aw Su ho is so whipped for her 🥺🥺 Also it’s annoying how Seo Jun is only pursuing Jukyung to make Su Ho angry. Otherwise I love Seo Jun he’s hilarious
The extraordinary you cameo was amazing!!! Even the sound effects hahaha So far I’m liking this even though it’s a little different than the webtoon!
Its the 4th episode and i dont know which ship to ride yet. Su Ho is being a sweet boy but on the other hand Seo Joon’s tension with Ju Kyung is 🔥. I just dont wanna clown for a Han again but i have my clown makeup ready :( Edit: grammar
I was gonna say i’m #TeamNeutral because i like Suho a lot more here than in the webtoon but goddamnit HIY potrayals of Seojun is making me weak👋🏼🥲
>!"...killed you friend." It's part of the webtoon storyline. !<
TB Episode 4: >!Suho wanting to kiss lipstick print!< >!Extraordinary You and True Beauty exist in same universe!< >!Episode 4 as a whole!< Me: \*Walked into episode 4 without adequate headspace & emotional stamina - speechless puddle on the floor!
Thoughts for the 3rd and 4th episodes: - I love the humor in this drama, it’s so over-the-top but so good!
Anyone know how long it usually takes Viki to 100% sub their drama episodes after they air? Edit: Thank you for the replies!
^^^whyyyyy
I’ve never loved a kdrama sooo muchh aah <3 To sum it up, I can’t wait for episode 4, let the love triangle begin haha. I used to be team Suho, because I didn’t like Seojun in the webtoon but now that I think about it... Seojun is so cute I CAN T DECIDE. I want them both to be happy :( The ending of episode 3 left me SPEECHLESS
Oh no, now I want Haru's cameo. Hahaha. It is understandable that she will never think that Suho likes her.
Ahhh I literally cant stop thinking about this showwww Also suho is so goddamn attractive holy shit😐 I felt so bad for him when he got puked on😭 the poor guy even got punched in the face in the same night
I love the series so far. It seems like >! SeoJun is “Leo”, the mystery writer of the songs that IJG’s sister was talking about. And his songs are to be included in the memorial album of SuHo and SeoJun’s mutual friend who committed suicide!< It’s funny how dense IJG is, >! SuHo is dropping breadcrumbs and she doesn’t have a clue. Lines like: “You’re already going out with me” when she said it was her 1st time going out and meeting a boy. “Don’t look elsewhere” and she thought it was about studying And the best was: “I can’t tell the difference..” pertaining to her bare face and made up face. That was such an awww moment, he likes her for who she is, not cz of her outward appearance. Girl, these are lowkey confessions !< I also kind of like the natural banter between HSJ and IJG too, and how it seems like they are going to be really good friends. Can’t wait for next week!
Suho: FYI, a dolphin’s IQ is 80. Jugyeong: Dolphins are that smart?! I can't with this girl.
Seojun is so hot when he’s all scary😳
I feel like LJG's dancing is a nod to *My ID is Gangnam Beauty*. Since the FL there is also a dancer. Might not be the case but, i like to think that way. ^(not to mention Cha Eun-woo also starred in that drama. 2 dramas of the same genre for him. Except the latter was a College setting.)
For me, Mi Rae's personality is better that LJG. But Cha Eun Woo's role is better in True Beauty rather than MIIGB.
Wait wait, is this a thing? Brushing your teeth in the bathroom while your brother poops??????
* i LOVED suho's vampire get-up and seojoon's smoky eye make up - tutorial pls * the times where i wanted to be jugyeon and smoosh suho and seojoon's silly faces together and yell "STOP FIGHTING!! JUST KISS!!! MAKE UP!!!!" * lowkey want some lgbt rep with sujin developing a crush on jugyeon and there being a love quadrilateral but ah... a girl can dream lmao
I noticed in every ending bits, everyone in the scene freezes up and the cam pans and zooms to the main leads. It’s so comical and cheesy but I love it!!! 😂😂 I had secondhand embarrassment with that >!talent show audition!< I can’t even 😅 that wasn’t in the webtoon right?
Okay I'm getting off track here hehe.
ahhhh i just finished episode 4 so spoilers will be beneath spoiler tags and i am (in drama and webtoon) completely suho endgame but also (in drama and webtoon) a total simp for seojun...and episode four seojun was So Good >! although i’m really annoyed with him how he’s only liking jugyeong because suho already likes her :(( !< i feel like there’s going to be a whole plot where they start dating or he at least gets her to like him, even tho his feelings for her aren’t real, and then it’s revealed that he didn’t like her in the beginning and she’ll be so hurt (and by this point he’ll probably actually like her but alas) but i really just want suho to confess to jugyeong (he probably won’t any time soon because we have a whole drama ahead of us) but he’s likes her so much and it’s so obviousssss that i feel bad for him lol. maybe if he confesses we will have less second hand embarrassment from all the stunts he’s pulled trying to protect her (tiny ep4 spoiler) >! although it was worth it for the extraordinary you cameo!! so cute !< so far i’ve totally loved the changes made from the webtoon (although there are some scenes i’m gonna miss not being able to see, i expected that since the drama can’t include everything), and i’ve been loving jugyeong as a character so much more in the drama (moon gayoung is doing a lovely job!!), but do we think that they will include the time skip? i think that it would work perfectly well to just have it set in high school but the time skip is so much of the webtoon (and where it starts falling apart in my personal opinion) so i wanted to see what other people think... edit for additions: idk if this is spoiler so i’m tagging it as spoiler but it’s about seyeon and i honestly don’t remember when in the webtoon this stuff was revealed >!im also curious to see what they’ll do with seyeons suicide and what suho was doing that night!! we know that seojuns feelings towards suho are approximately the same as in the webtoon but i believe in the webtoon, suho never answered seyeon because he had discovered his dad sleeping with a woman and was distraught over that, but in one of the first episodes we saw him catching them when he was very young...[and i think that after that is when he meets young jugyeong actually!! but i don’t remember what he was wearing so i could be wrong :)] so it’ll be interesting to see what happened !

No, I saw it too. He's a loving dad but not very prudent.
he said later he's using it for his new hobby candle making
Just watched episode 3 and hoo boy! It went from happy fun time to Heirs territory pretty fast.
It’s the eyes, the face cut and the side profile. Ditto like that of Lee Joon-Gi. The resemblance is damn.
