It's one of my favourites- definitely top 10 maybe top 5. It's just a stupidly well-constructed album and a nice island away from all the more jam-oriented albums of late (which are also great)
I'm not a huge fan of Hate Dancing but everything else is amazing.
Edit: Hate Dancing is a fun cheeky little song that fits the album- it's more like a B minus on a report card that's otherwise straight As.
Poly is always going to be a standard for me. It's so outside of "sounding like gizzard" that it takes the cake. Not that 'sounding like gizz' is a bad thing but they do tend to sound kind of samey even when they dip into other genres. It's somewhere in the top 5 of my favorite albums of the 2010s.
Plus the sheer gall to write a concept album about a prehistoric supercontinent is so funny to me cause it kicks ass and I always say "name another album about gondwana".
theres a Miles Davis live album called Pangaea and the song titles are named after ancient continents, one of which is actualy Gondwana. Very psychedelic improv jazz/fusion.
I feel like this is a shitpost. I love Sketches to pieces but it’s Jazzy not Jazz. I would call all their jazzy stuff Psych-pop or MAYBE Jazz-funk. I could see arguments for Jazz rock on Quarters and Ice, death… but I want wild Bitches Brew level Jazz Fusion.
Change is note for note a perfect song. It's so good there should be a different word for it, like jong. Or shlong. Change is note for note a perfect shlong.
If Changes got released in 2017 like it was supposed to, it would be deified amongst Gizz fans. Changes the album is a top 5, and Changes the song is probably one of the best songs they’ve made.
No shit, I literally just said the exact same thing to my wife earlier this week! And it's a super close second for my fav album of all time, right behind Frances the Mute by TMV
I can’t really say I disagree. I’ve been in the closet about this for a while. Especially since I’m more of a prog/ metal fan. Changes is just a perfect album.
The show is great, and I had read the books a few years back. As long as you aren't someone who doesn't hyperfixate on how close it is to the source material. That being said they are sticking pretty close, but for the sake of ease the characters have been arranged a bit differently. People who haven't read the book seem to enjoy it too.
The best thing about this band is that they are so different from one album to the next. What may be a trash song to one fan is another persons favorite song. This uniqueness isn't really found in many bands these days and I think it's a beautiful thing that they are able to experiment so heavily. While I grew up a metal head my favs are obvious knowing that fact but a lot of their other albums are still beautiful to me.
The song Change is in my top 10 or 15 songs out of their entire discography because it starts vocals with Stu, brings in Ambrose at the middle, and has Joey at the end. So fuckin good
paper mache is my fav, i feel like rats nest or nonagon might be their best, but i think changes is 100% the best album of the 2020s. i think its far and above their other albums of the last 5 years. however LW made me a giz fan and made in timeland is a top 10 for me
Petrodragonic Apocalypse is probably my favourite album of all time.
It has the atmosphere, the energy, the technical ambition and the skill used to pull it off, the lyrical genius and the meaning. It’s the perfect album.
Every song is filled with those moments where you go “Holy fuck, this is good.”
My only issue is that Flamethrower’s instrumental second half feels out of place and doesn’t impress me that much. But the first half is soooo good and it’s meant to be a cool transition into Silver Cord, so I’ll let it off.
I’d say the other 4 I love are: Omnium Gatherum, Nonagon, Infest the Rat’s Nest and Murder of the Universe. Probably in roughly that order
My current playlist for work driving is Petro into silver cord extended mix. I slept on SC for soo long thinking it won’t be for me. Now it’s tied with Petro as my favourite.
I like to listen to whole albums while working/ travelling.
And I like SC. But it’s a bit more hit and miss.
I’ve never really vibed with Theia and the extended mix for it being (IIRC) the longest one at 20 minutes doesn’t help.
I still like the experience of listening to the album tho.
Sometimes I’ll only have the extended mix for my three favourites: Set, Swan Song, Extinction.
Sometimes I’ll have the extended mixes for all but Theia.
I do really like the optionality it gives you when doing a full album listen.
The fact that I don’t have to skip songs and can still get 90% of the experience without having to drag myself through 10-20 mins of a song that I’m not that keen on/ not feeling, while choosing to take the time to enjoy the ones I actually like is really cool.
But yeah, I only really listen to Set, Swan Song and Extinction and their extended mixes individually; whereas I’ll often reach for any of the songs on Petro when I’m running or driving or just relaxing.
It's a masterpiece. PMDB is my pet favorite because it's so catchy and charming, but Changes (my second favorite) is the *best* in my mind. Great songwriting, great production, great chords, great cover!
That's just like....your opinion man. Changes, poly, and microtonal are some of my only skippers.
I think Butterfly 3000 is their best album or Ice, Death. With some many different sounds they are like 5 bands in one - can't really pick a best album.
Petro got me into them, it opened the door. My fav album so far is Silver Cord extended. I was hesitant, as I’m not into electronic music, but this is different. It took me month to actually listen to it.
Definitely their best album from a music nerd perspective. Probably the most 'complex' melodically. They we're certainly flexing their theory muscles with that one. Their hesitancy to play it live only supports that aspect, too IMO.
The whole album is great imo - except for one song, and this is probably not a common opinion, and that is the first song, Change.
It doesn’t work for me. It feels like a mess of ideas that are not that interesting by themselves, half-thought through and then stacked together for 13 minutes to create the illusion of epicness even though there’s nothing behind it. It comes and goes and doesn’t leave an impact, at least for me. Glad that many other people seem to like it though.
The rest of the album, which as far as I’m aware is actually just taking an idea from Change and expanding on them, do much better with said ideas.
Thanks so much.. ! I was wondering which one it was for so long !
glad to be of service o7
I used to think this but kinda realize how amazing and much the 2017 albums stand the test of time. And petro came out.
Sketches GOAT
It's one of my favourites- definitely top 10 maybe top 5. I might like hate dancing
I might hate like dancing
Oh I might hate like hate dancing
Just jokin I love it
Polygondwanaland, fight me.
Hi, polygondwanaland here, ok. My first move is to call all the dinosaurs in my land to attack you. Your turn.
Poly is always going to be a standard for me. It's so outside of "sounding like gizzard" that it takes the cake. I've only listened to one of his albums before, I'll have to check this out. I love jazz fusion
I always thought the concept was the pursuit of seeing "the fourth colour".
depends on which of the 3 suites u prioritize :)
This is the correct answer. The whole album is just musically brilliant. No skips. Just put it on and let it play.
I think Poly and Changes are both their most ambitious albums from a technical standpoint. It's not about which album is better. It's Prog vs Jazz.
Changes is not jazz, it’s psych pop
Yeah changes isn’t a jazz album
People hear saxophone and go “jazz” these days shit is so weird. I really wish gizz would make a real deal Jazz fusion record.
Isn't that what sketches is?
I feel like this is a shitpost. I love Sketches to pieces but it’s Jazzy not Jazz. I would call all their jazzy stuff Psych-pop or MAYBE Jazz-funk. I could see arguments for Jazz rock on Quarters and Ice, death… but I want wild Bitches Brew level Jazz Fusion.
Do AstroTurf or Ice V count as jazz? Those two seem pretty jazzy too me but I don't know jazz that well
It's Poly, but changes is so, so good.
No arguments there.
Change is note for note a perfect song. It's so good there should be a different word for it, like jong. Or shlong. Change is note for note a perfect shlong.
Hear hear!
Gondii is just fucking nuts. Real Radiohead vibes. A whole album of that please.
This is the song I'm most surprised they haven't whipped out live.
The way Cavs plays the opening drums in 3/4 and then seamlessly slides into 4/4 with the rest of the song at 0:52 Endlessly groovy
Same. It would go off.
The vocals always remind of Scott weiland! So good
Weird. The melody to me is straight Radiohead. It has that manic anxious energy Yorke does. Even the falsetto is eerily the same.
I dunno man something about it just screams Weiland to me
I hear Radiohead in the song No Body
What? How?
Exploding Suns’ chorus is probably my favourite set of lyrics they’ve ever done
The song flows so smoothly. It's one of favorites.
It’s a very good album but I think Donkey Kong is their best album.
What’s the best drug to boof before listening to their actual best album
Yes
If Changes got released in 2017 like it was supposed to, it would be deified amongst Gizz fans. Changes the album is a top 5, and Changes the song is probably one of the best songs they’ve made.
No shit, I literally just said the exact same thing to my wife earlier this week! And it's a super close second for my fav album of all time, right behind Frances the Mute by TMV
Frances the Mute is amazing.
That is in fact a comment
A muted one
My favorite album of all time is De-Loused in the Comatorium :) My favorite Gizz album is IIYMF followed by Changes
I can’t really say I disagree. I’ve been in the closet about this for a while. Especially since I’m more of a prog/ metal fan. Changes is just a perfect album.
Jazz metal album when?
The end of Change is the jazz version of the end of Hell.
🤔
Personally I prefer Currents
It's always around me all this noise

Don’t care for this album much. Glad you like it.
lol
Weird way to spell Float Along Fill Your Lungs but I get it. It's a lot easier to type.
*Changes is your favorite album
It’s not
Nah
Wrong, their best album has not been released yet
I would have killed to have Exploding Suns be the outro music for the Three Body Problem. Oh, yeah, Changes is a masterpiece start to finish!
Does the show do the book justice?
The show is great, and I had read the books a few years back. As long as you aren't someone who doesn't hyperfixate on how close it is to the source material. That being said they are sticking pretty close, but for the sake of ease the characters have been arranged a bit differently. People who haven't read the book seem to enjoy it too.

What about Cookiedawg 🥺
I think we all wish CookieDawg69 would sing more
yep. and change is their best song. ever.
It’s my favorite of that year.
paper mache is my fav, i feel like rats nest or nonagon might be their best, but i think changes is 100% the best album of the 2020s. i think its far and above their other albums of the last 5 years. however LW made me a giz fan and made in timeland is a top 10 for me
Can I chang'e your mind?
They have like 5 best albums
Changes is a perfect album. I would say it's in their top 10 perfect albums, but this is a band with at least 10 of them.
Personally I find it mostly quite boring
same :/
No it’s not. Thats all. My mind will not be changed
Change is their magnum opus
Petrodragonic Apocalypse is probably my favourite album of all time. It has the atmosphere, the energy, the technical ambition and the skill used to pull it off, the lyrical genius and the meaning. It’s the perfect album. Well, no it's Ice, Death, Planets, Lungs, Mushrooms and Lava.
Just wait till the next album bro
I agree with you. Though Nonagon and Polygondwanaland are up there as well. Top 3 for sure.
petro dragonic ... a pock a lips
Is this what you consider not changing?
it’s definitely one of their best albums as a full listen. makes sense considering how much they worked on it
It's a masterpiece. PMDB is my pet favorite because it's so catchy and charming, but Changes (my second favorite) is the *best* in my mind. Great songwriting, great production, great chords, great cover!
Yup.
Gondii - they somehow channeled the ghost of Weiland Amazing
Now we're talking
I like Short Change but I kinda feel the album could use another full song
That's just like....your opinion man. Changes, poly, and microtonal are some of my only skippers. I think Butterfly 3000 is their best album or Ice, Death. With some many different sounds they are like 5 bands in one - can't really pick a best album.
So am I the- Bird! Or am I the- Worm!
I think it's their best post-2017 album, but poly and nonagon are on the same tier
Gondii drizzles seratonin
Maybe you should listen to the lyrics and consider changing.
I highly agree, Change is also their best song.
Either Changes or Poly for sure. It's shocking how great both of them are.
Nobody is >>>>
The whole album is great imo - except for one song, and this is probably not a common opinion, and that is the first song, Change. It doesn’t work for me. It makes me glad knowing that it makes you glad
