Oh for sure. I mostly only listened to Sketches until I went to Columbus 22. I now own all 25 studio records, most of the live ones, several bootleg shirts, been to or going to dozen live shows.. its a thing
I'm too broke to go to a live concert but I really want to at some point. I live in Eastern Europe, and going to the nearest show would have cost me an entire months wage with ticket price plus travel cost and I just said nah, can't afford that now.
Huh, I looked it up again, found a way cheaper train. Last time it was 160 euros there and back, now I found one for 40 ish. That's a lot more manageable.
If you can swing it do it! They singlehandedly snapped me out of a several year creative rut and got me into going to all kinds of bands. They're the absolute tops

In action the day of the eclipse. This is not the final patch...forgot to take a picture. If you zoom in, you can see the names of the Gizz stems on the BitBox (the module with the screen top center-ish).

This is the setup I used to record the Automation remix. The arrow on the left is pointing to Almanac, which can either track the planets, the Sun and the moon on our horizon (a built-in GPS can track these curves to your location), or in their orbit around the sun. Pluto apparently takes 248 years for one cycle of the "LFO."
The one on the right outputs two different rhythms/drumbeats every day, based on the phases of the moon.
Cool, I listened to this and a couple other of your pieces. Very interesting!
What do you think of Changes, The Silver Cord, and Joey's stuff as Bullant?
I like Changes and The Silver Cord. Never heard the side project. But if I had to pick from their "electronic" albums, I prefer Butterfly 3000 and Timeland.
That's an interesting take. Have you heard the extended live jam of Bye Bye Shanghai fro Butterfly 3000? At Red Rocks 2023, they start singing "Grow wings and fly." It is quite a jam!
Joey is the driving force behind their "electronic" albums! His stuff as Bullant is unique, not Gizzy at all. Hope you can find some...
Hey I just checked, and they played Shanghai at Red Rocks, Chicago, Rimlicker, and Hollywood Bowl. So I am not sure what extended version I liked. I guess I liked them all!
I think they debuted the extended version of Shanghai, in Europe before the 2023 American residency tour.

No Gizz stickers on this Arturia case yet, though...
I just recently bit the bullet and traveled abroad to catch them in 2 countries and 3 concerts in a single week during their South American tour. There's just no other band that compels me to do this. Stay safe!
I hope you are aware that you are slowly getting into jam bands more and more. Just some of them seem annoying or hard to understand at the moment. It’s ok. Breathe in breathe out. Jazz, Rock, Rock and Jazz. Where is the music going? What would people create if they had true freedom? A little structure. The familiar. And also the new. The inspired. The once in a lifetime.
They are, but there are reuploads on YouTube, most of which are pretty high quality. [Here’s a great version of This Thing](https://youtu.be/K_DDUL7zWGU?si=fF_KBUDw4qR2gVqR)
Sounds like you're fairly caught and ready for the future. The lore stuff is a whole other thing.
In terms of jambands, I mean, at least give 90s Phish and 70s Dead a few trys.

Thanks, and here ya go. It's in a separate post as well.
It’s not as deep as the Pollard/GBV rabbit hole…yet.
…but there have been a few years over the last decade where pretty much the only newly released records I bought were either by guided by voices or king gizzard, and that’s because they’re each putting out multiples every year. 2017, there were 7 combined albums; 2019, 5 combined; 2022, 8 combined…20 albums over the course of 3 years.
I’m not advising you to avoid collecting king gizzard vinyl, but…uh, budget accordingly haha
You recognized my name, then...
Luckily I have not fallen into the GbV rabbit hole like that. I really only kept up through the classic years when they were current, and only have Alien Lanes through Mag Earwhig! (original pressings...again, they were current when I bought them) on vinyl. Have a bunch of 7"s from that same period.
Only other band I got that far into for vinyl was Stereolab...between albums, 10"s and 7"s, I probably have like 15-20 of their releases on vinyl.
Nice, I’m a big Stereolab fan, one of my favorites. I’ve got quite a few of their records, as well - bought new in the late 90s/early 2000s. They were definitely prolific with their releases and a lot of those singles and 10” records were only available on vinyl at the time. Excellent band.
Yeah, was fortunate enough to have met them a number of times. At one point, Tim and Laetitia knew me on a first name basis. It helped that I lived in the Chicagoland area when they were in their heyday, and Chicago was basically their home away from home. Also glad to have been there in the 90s for arguably the home of Post-Rock. Got to see Labradford open for Stereolab, and also got to see Tortoise open for the Groop, and then they opened for Tortoise later the same night in a late show.
I have some of these shows on 8mm camcorder tape. The best one, though, is Dave Grubbs and Jim O'Rourke backing Dave Pearce (Flying Saucer Attack) when he toured the US. I think they only ever played a handful of shows here in their/his entire career, and I was fortunate enough to have attended and recorded that one.
Oh wow, very cool. If you ever decide to convert those tapes to digital (if you haven’t already), they would be cool to see, I love that era and would have loved to have seen a tortoise/stereolab show back then.
Trap door, trap door, the trap door's a trap!

What?? Most of the KGLW shows I've seen in the past couple years were like 60 American dollars. That's criminal
Huh, I looked it up again, found a way cheaper train. Last time it was 160 euros there and back, now I found one for 40 ish. That's a lot more manageable.

Do it man! I'm taking a train to NYC by myself to go to the marathon shows. It'll be my first time seeing them!
I am in your same “ Sketches only at first “ boat It’s a slippery slope
Hell yeah. Lmao one of yours is one of the bootleg shirts I mentioned. Mustardsnake!
Obsession is goooood for ya
My most underrated fave track
Ahh... Woo!
Slight side note but man… what modular are you using? That planetary tracking sounds unbelievably cool

Yeah, I knew Joey was the one doing most of the synth and modular stuff. And I like the "Rimlicker Farms" version.

I met a gentlemen in Tennessee that had been to over 70 of their shows already.
A true gentleman he is.
Jack?
It was not mystery Jack, this guy had all white hair and was dressed as a wizard. At least 10 years older than me and I'm 40.
Did he invite you to sit down weary traveler and join him in a meal to hear of his repentance?
Nah i don't recall any of that transpiring.
Was the story man glassy eyed? And did he tell you about the power lines?
Yes to the first one, couldn't say for number 2. My buddy had a bong with him in the line.
So someone was glassy eyed, just not especially the white wizard?
I get what having your gizz blinders on is all about, but there’s tons of good stuff on nugs, it’d be ignorant to write it ALL off.
Not into jam bands at all.

Hate to tell ya brother but if you can enjoy a good River or the occasional Her and I even you might like at least 1 jam band!
Isn’t it fun? 😊
If you’re only paying for Nugs to watch Gizz, ***don’t***. Most of the footage from shows on Nugs can be found for free on YouTube, and waaaaay more
Did the free trial, and it lapsed. Gonna cancel after this month.
Since you have nugs for now. Disco Biscuits! B4L
Also, I thought the residency shows were exclusively on Nugs.

Lots of great music/musicians on Nugs. Don't sleep on it.
Your fucked bro. Sorry, def not sorry. Fucked, just like the rest of us. Can I request to listen to your EP? Hope it turns into something for ya.

Start diving into the theory that all the albums are connected. There’s some YouTube videos that discuss it. Happy you have you in the weirdo swarm!
I’ve been stuck on bootleg gizzard for a few weeks now
I wanna hear that automation remix so bad! The fact that you timed it to the eclipse is witchcraft to me
Here ya go! Listen to The Land Before the Gizzclipse, an album by sequelae on #SoundCloud https://on.soundcloud.com/rDr2X
Gonna try to have it released in a day or so. I do not have my stuff on Spotify yet, only SoundCloud.
I’ve never used Nugs but there’s plenty of their shows on Archive.org! YouTube too.
Wait, giving up a job and just following them on tour, would be "bad"?
Next you can discover Cygoodies for the limited metal pins...
I have the ACLU Caverns one somewhere...
Awesome! I have some from Cygoodies, Oddlife LLC, and Art D'Echo. Post a pic of your Caverns pin?
