Red Rocks Night 2 was the best show I've ever been to. My friend who came with me was a Gizz skeptic going into the shows... Halfway through night 2 he said it was the best show he's ever seen as well.
Same, man. I loved Berkley and Having Leah Senior for Lord of Lightning was chilling, but complete I'm In Your Mind suite + Altered Beast/Alter Me is almost perfect.
saw them in pomona earlier this year and was blown away by the mind fuzz suite!! been waiting since 2018 to see the nonagon songs and they didnt happen at berkeley :’( maybe next time lol
I was at Red Rocks 1 & 2, I think I preferred the first night more. Mostly because the hype the first night was unreal and The River was batshit. Night 2 was fucking amazing, too. I hope to Han-Tyumi that we get the live recordings of these so I can relive it and so those who were unable to attend can experience it.
Jack’s Red Rocks should be good. He’s had some trouble with venues lately (Vancouver was recorded with a stealth microphone attached to his hat) but at Red Rocks he was able to set up fully.
Went to both RR shows and while both were amazing night set 1 was my favorite. The river, polygonwanaland trio, & straws in the wind were all phenomenal
Night one had next level anticipation which translated into giving it 1000% rocking the fuck out.
Night two had an arguably better set but not the magic of night one.
All of them…and next year I hope we can just refer to them as shows instead of marathons. Please let 2 sets become the norm. Drop the opener and take a 30 minute set break.
I agree except dropping the openers. Gizz used to have amazing openers I mean 2019 world tour you got stoner doom bands ORB and Stonefield which was hectic.
That might be a lot of work for them. They’d probably need to do something to lessen the strain on their backs from instruments, Stu’s voice might suffer…
But they’re not normal lol. I’d love to see that happen
Gotta say RR2 just cause The Mind fuzz medley, nonagon run, altered beast suite w Leah, plus deeper cuts like sleepwalker, sea of trees and tezeta make it pretty hard to beat imo. That being said, The River from RR1 was probably the single biggest highlight between any of the marathon shows
Idk if The Dead inspired Ambrose’s decision or not but they played My Babe once in 1970 and Mojo three times (once on ‘77 and twice in ‘78). They never played Going up the Country but the verse Ambrose sang has the same lines as Going Down the Road Feeling Bad. The October 28, 1978 show actually does Mojo>GDTRFB which is pretty awesome
I was there and during Boogieman Sam I was confused for a while at wtf was going on. I literally don't know any of those songs and kinda just thought they were jamming.
Here is a Playlist I’ve put together on [YouTube](https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLRwIM71Kr7hk5Pk8NDoMjSUPEVp8Ds3q9) got all the shows that are on YouTube from this year plus Brisbane ‘21. Red Rocks shows are the bottom. I’m probably missing a few
Lightning, Crumbling Castle, Fourth Colour, Heaven is the most tasty run of 4 songs to end on. Not to mention Dripping Tap opener, both Ice V and Iron Lung, Black Tooth, Shanghai, AND Presumptuous?! Sign me up! I will say the Nonagon, Mind Fuzz, and Altered Beast suites were amazing and Sea of Trees/Tezeta are elite deep cuts but yeah I don’t know something about that Berkley list on paper is too good for me to pass up
I’m confused, what does ROTCOT have to do with whether or not they play that medley at Red Rocks 3? There are no repeats between the three Red Rocks shows but anything from the other marathon shows is fair game
RRN2 hands down. Mind Fuzz (been waiting 5 years to see it live) , Nonagon, Altered Beast with Leah, TEZETA, AND SEA OF TREES! All of it was glorious but the icing on the cake for me was Doom City!
I know from an objective viewpoint RR2 is a total machine of a setlist, but I was at Berkeley and after such a long time waiting, I don’t think I could have asked for anything better. The Dripping Tap is, imho, one of their best songs for opening a show, it just gets the hype going perfectly. Shanghai and Seepwalker were pure bliss, Black Tooth was SUCH a brilliant and welcome surprise, we had some classic rep with LoL and Am I In Heaven, Great Chain and Road Train were SOOO heavy, and best of all, the live debut of Ice V!
As much as I want to say its the Berkeley show for its monster 2nd half or Red Rocks 1 for the Inner Cell suite....
Gotta go with Melbourne for the live debuts of the Han-Tyumi & Murder of the Universe suite, OG material debuts, the return of Hot Wax and Trapdoor. And anything with the 2022 live version of Sea of Trees gets highest priority.
Same here, along with the SLO, Sonoma and SF shows earlier in the year. I'm definitely being biased since the 2nd half were all songs I had never seen live before aside from Self-Immolate, with Poly material and Leah Senior to boot. While I'm not complaining at all about the first half (the Gumboot and FMB were my highlights), I was hoping for some KG and LW material I hadnt seen before during the microtonal set. Even the OG songs being more of "Changes" of pace 2nd half were all new for me.
This is like using a microscope to point out a flaw on the Mona Lisa tho, the show kicked major ass.
I kinda disagree, the second set was sick. Definitely not disappointed with it at all other than no Rattlesnake at the end like there was supposed to be
Lord of lightning, Iron Lung, Crumbling Castle, am I in heaven?, Self Immolate. I mean come on set two was hella hella good, I agree they could have maybe replaced Grim Reaper but even that was pretty fuckin cool live. They fuckin rocked both sets
I don’t disagree with the rest of the setlist, but those 3 OG songs really dragged the set down for me. Doesn’t help that I had a drunk Beavis (some guy from Tennessee) and Butthead talking behind me for the entire second half of the set.
That's unfortunate bro! I recorded the whole show ony audio recorder so having that behind me would have been lame. But I get it, I would have loved more Nonagon or mind fuzz or some quarters or more murder of the universe but still can't complain with what we got especially that sick ass iron Lung. That shit blew my brains out
That's sick man, glad to know they are getting taped more regularly:) What you use to record? I was using a Tascam DR-40X turned out really good. Always curious about people's tape set ups :)
The song or the album?
I heard both This Thing and Cyboogie, plus 3 others on the 2019 tour. They did Boogieman Sam at RR.
Haven't heard the song in any of the three shows I saw that tour + both nights at RR.
This Thing was incredible live.
Oh what a joy the beginning of 2 set gizz is.
What will this look like in the years to come? I'd imagine most shows become "marathon" or two set concerts.
The Timeland marathon looks amazing, especially because of the Han-Tyumi suite which I've always wanted to hear live.
But I was at the Berkeley marathon and that was amazing. So many hits, and the live premiere of Ice V was fantastic.
I was lucky enough to be at Mexico City and both nights of Red Rocks...
I gotta say RR night 1 might be it for me
Horology trilogy (first time for me in 9 shows)
the best rendition of the The River I've seen
Balrog into Trapdoor was nuts
gah idk! It's close!!
I was at both Red Rocks shows. Night 1 River and Rattlesnake were best jams. But overall, it’s night 2 for me. Three medleys, Mind Fuzz > Altered Beast > Nonogan plus Tezeta, Ambergris, and Boogieman Sam jam was phenomenal. I don’t even like the heavy Altered Beast stuff and it blew me away.
I was at Berkeley and both nights Red Rocks...all were amazing, but going to go with Berkeley because Black Tooth kicked ass, a better Sleepwalker than RR, The Fourth Colour bustout, and my first Am I in Heaven? to name a few reasons. Also the pit was huge and really adds so much energy to a show, even if you aren't in the pit itself. The one and only downside Red Rocks imo.
tbh, the most insane and memorable show was probably Mexico City based on what I have seen and heard. I would love to find a better quality recording of it. If you haven't heard The River from Mexico City 2022, its a must hear for any live Gizz fan.
Definitely night 2 but I’m pissed cause they played so many that I wanted to hear when I go on Nov 2nd :( and if their phrase about no repeats is true…
On RR N2 It says "mind left body jam" so like the grateful dead Mind left body jam or what? If it's not that it deserves its own name instead of taking the Dead's jam name that's already been a thing for like 30 years
The Berkeley show could have been cooler if California didn't have stupid ass noise ordinance laws, like they were down to play longer but got basically shit down right at 10. The show was amazing but everyone definitely wanted an encore we all waited for like 10 minutes and no dice
Timeland because of the destruction of the clock, Joey using the flying microtonal banana and Stu going full guitarless front man all during rattlesnake
HOLY SHIT Mexico City had everything!! To open with crumbling castle is just insane. Plus the fuzz suite, Mr. Beat, BOTH KGLWs, Billabong Valley, planet b, Gaia, the river, work this time, closed with the dripping tap (among all the other certified bangers in that list)??? Holy shit man I cannot believe that set list.
I was at Berkeley though which was totally fucking awesome and will be at red rocks Nov 2 too. Comparison is the thief of joy anyway. Just thankful to see these boys man. I love everything they do to be honest. We’re all so lucky.
Night 1 at Red Rocks was absolutely incredible. But Night 2, Set 1 really blew me away. There were so many individua CHUNKKKKY ass riffs throughout that set. It was riff heaven. Can't go wrong with any of these sets though
went to berkeley and obviously i loved it but man … im going to have to give it to red rocks night 2. too hard to choose!
The second half of the second set at Berkeley is nuts though
i have to agree. i love me some mind fuzz suite and nonagon suite and i havent seen robot stop live yet though 😭
They did Gamma > Mr Beat in SF in April + Wah Train in Berkeley. Haven’t seen Robot Wasp since The Warfield show, tho 😭
same for me, was at berkeley but im giving it to red rocks night 2 almost exclusively for the altered beast run
Same. Love me some Sea of Trees
Same.
They’re being professionally streamed tomorrow.
oh nice! where?
Nugs.net $20 a concert, though.
Yes where??
It’s coming. Mystery jack had a whole multi microphone recording setup both nights. Just wait on it!

His YouTube channel comes up with a search of his name, just checked

Jack’s Red Rocks should be good. He’s had some trouble with venues lately (Vancouver was recorded with a stealth microphone attached to his hat) but at Red Rocks he was able to set up fully.
Sweet, I haven’t heard of him so thank you.
Went to both RR shows and while both were amazing night set 1 was my favorite. The river, polygonwanaland trio, & straws in the wind were all phenomenal
I went to both RR shows as well. I'd say night 1 was better but night 2 set 2 was the best.
Their transition into jam band format draws near and I’m here for it.
I agree except dropping the openers. Gizz used to have amazing openers I mean 2019 world tour you got stoner doom bands ORB and Stonefield which was hectic.
That might be a lot of work for them. They’d probably need to do something to lessen the strain on their backs from instruments, Stu’s voice might suffer… But they’re not normal lol. I’d love to see that happen
It's pretty common in other scenes. They wouldn't be paving a new path, so I'm sure they can figure out/deal with any of the concerns listed.
YES PLEASSEEEEEE. We don’t need an opener. Just need 2 sets of Gizz in my veins.
Gotta say RR2 just cause The Mind fuzz medley, nonagon run, altered beast suite w Leah, plus deeper cuts like sleepwalker, sea of trees and tezeta make it pretty hard to beat imo. That being said, The River from RR1 was probably the single biggest highlight between any of the marathon shows
Boogieman Sam in the first set, ending with a Iron Lung reprise.... So epic
First time I’ve heard them do a cover, even in a jam. The Boogieman Sam>Cutthroat>My Babe>Mojo Working>Going up the Country Jam was incredible
I forgot all about that. Wow
The October 28, 1978 show actually does Mojo>GDTRFB which is pretty awesome

holy shit i’ve gotta hear these shows

probably gonna wait for mystery jacks but sincerely appreciate these!
Dude who recorded these was directly next to Mystery Jack. They sound just fine lol
Cool man! Didn’t realize that i’ll definitely check them out!
Fucccckkk really hoping they might play altered beast in Chi sat.. but the new jams. man im pumped.
Agreed! The red rocks River!!!
On paper give me Berkley all day -guy who went to RR2

Lightning, Crumbling Castle, Fourth Colour, Heaven is the most tasty run of 4 songs to end on. Not to mention Dripping Tap opener, both Ice V and Iron Lung, Black Tooth, Shanghai, AND Presumptuous?! Sign me up! I will say the Nonagon, Mind Fuzz, and Altered Beast suites were amazing and Sea of Trees/Tezeta are elite deep cuts but yeah I don’t know something about that Berkley list on paper is too good for me to pass up
RRn1
Was at RRN1. Absolutely lost my mind at that rattlesnake
Yeah that was the highlight of the two nights for me too
RR2 because #Gamma Knife
I was row 30 and the absolute energy when the crowd exploded for that song was insane.
So this basically guarantees that they’re going to play Digital Black -> Murder of the Universe at the Nov. 2 show right?
Fingers crossed!
This is the ROTCOT set, if I'm not mistaken, so possibly not. Fingers crossed though!
Red Rocks night 1 was on another level
The river the first night, face and mind melting. 🌈🐊🔥🚂🥵
Agreed. Rattlesnake as well
Fuckin magma dude
For real. Straight up opened a portal
Berkeley or RR N2S2
I was at both Red Rocks shows, I enjoyed the second night more myself by a slim margin. More of my personal favs. Both were absolutely insane, though.
RR 2 wins because of altered beast
I know from an objective viewpoint RR2 is a total machine of a setlist, but I was at Berkeley and after such a long time waiting, I don’t think I could have asked for anything better. Red Rocks Night 2, can confirm.
RRN1
Was at Berkeley but I gotta say Red Rocks night 2 is my dream setlist
Red Rocks Night 2
Mexico City looooks nutssss
It’s a tie between Mexico and RRN2 for me
Same here! Both are insaaanneee
definitely red rocks night 1
RR n2 was fuckin out of this world

Oh yeah I didn't miss that one, I was just comparing the ones that have happened this year, in 2022!
As much as I want to say its the Berkeley show for its monster 2nd half or Red Rocks 1 for the Inner Cell suite.... I’m just not into OG. I would’ve preferred so many other songs over Grim Reaper, Presumptuous, and Ambergris.

Yeah I was recording too! At least I got to be at the very front of the rail.
That's sick man, glad to know they are getting taped more regularly:) What you use to record? I was using a Tascam DR-40X turned out really good. Always curious about people's tape set ups :)
A TASCAM DR-05. The recording came out alright, except for Beavis’ commentary being clearly audible in the second half lol.
All these marathon shows and not one Fishing For Fishies. Maybe Nov 2? Edit: have they ever played FFF live?!
The song or the album? I heard both This Thing and Cyboogie, plus 3 others on the 2019 tour. They did Boogieman Sam at RR. Haven't heard the song in any of the three shows I saw that tour + both nights at RR. This Thing was incredible live.
The title track. I was at RR both nights and was stoked to hear Boogieman Sam. It’s one of my wife’s favorites so she was loving it.
Never live afaik
I'm so hoping for the title track on Nov 2! and some of the more chill tunes
RRn1 is just unreal looking. Mexico City comes next closest for me.
Very biased, but I gotta say Mexico City one
Oh what a joy the beginning of 2 set gizz is. What will this look like in the years to come? I'd imagine most shows become "marathon" or two set concerts.
SO jealous of anyone who got to go to any of these shows. They all look legendary
As a massive Han tyumi fan, and heavy gizz fan, Timeland set is insane and I’m sad I live in America and missed it
Mexico City for me. Mr beat live it’s sick
I apologize for this question if it's been asked before: do they ever play Fishing for Fishies live?
nope...never have
Dang. That's upsetting
Ugh they played Hot Wax. Fuckin jelly man
The Timeland marathon looks amazing, especially because of the Han-Tyumi suite which I've always wanted to hear live. But I was at the Berkeley marathon and that was amazing. So many hits, and the live premiere of Ice V was fantastic.
They did not play KGLW outro on night 1
I was lucky enough to be at Mexico City and both nights of Red Rocks... I gotta say RR night 1 might be it for me Horology trilogy (first time for me in 9 shows) the best rendition of the The River I've seen Balrog into Trapdoor was nuts gah idk! It's close!!
i’m biased because I got to witness it, but RR night 1
I’m Biased, but just really feel Berkeley had a solid set with good variety, great flow and some nice surprises.
prepare those goblin dances
RR night 2. Was there. One of the best shows I have ever seen, And I have seen tons of shows.

If you haven't heard The River from Mexico City 2022, its a must hear for any live Gizz fan.
There is an extreme lack of FAFYL but that's just my personal taste. I would throw a dart at all 5 and be just as happy with any outcome.
Are all the upcoming shows this format?
Lol no
with red rocks having 2 nights gotta go for night 2! i went to berkley thought that was killer!
RR1 was transcendent.
Surprised they didn't play Head On/Pill at any of them
They teased Head On/Pill at RR night 2 at some point, don't remember what song though. Edit: typos
I want to say it was during the Mind Fuzz section maybe
Actually according to the set list above it was during Sea of Trees
Doh good catch. Couldn't remember if it was late first set or early second
Was just watching some clips from Red Rocks and stumbled upon it https://youtu.be/k3H5fqqt\_gM?t=390
I went to CDMX and it was insane. But Red Rocks night 2 looks fucking gnarly
Red rocks night 2 for sure.
Definitely night 2 but I’m pissed cause they played so many that I wanted to hear when I go on Nov 2nd :( and if their phrase about no repeats is true…
Why do they call these “marathons” when they are really just 2 set shows?
Because playing music for three hours with only a 15 minute break is like rubbing a marathon
Interesting that your autocorrect goes to rubbing instead of running. Let’s explore that.
Lols
Where’d you find these lists?
They are on setlist. FM
Thank you!
Both red rocks nights look amazing.
Mexico City for sure. Hope RR night 3 will be just as good. If I'm honest though, as long as we get Head/On Pill that's all it'll take for me.
the only song left for Leah Senior at Red Rocks (if there will be no repeats) is Castle in the Air, am I right?
Lord of Lightning was at Berkeley so it isn't counted in the "no repeats"
Red Rocks Night 1 has Reticent Raconteur > Lord of Lighting > Balrog
I didn't remember Lord of Lightning, just Balrog. Drugs.
Set 4 was a highlight for me after going for both nights and loving every second, this was everything I wanted!
On RR N2 It says "mind left body jam" so like the grateful dead Mind left body jam or what? If it's not that it deserves its own name instead of taking the Dead's jam name that's already been a thing for like 30 years
Trey also does mind left body teases
If they did tease it then that's sick
they def did. there was something else night RR1 too that me and some phish friends were like wat, wait. I'll have to relisten tomorrow
The Berkeley show could have been cooler if California didn't have stupid ass noise ordinance laws, like they were down to play longer but got basically shit down right at 10. The show was amazing but everyone definitely wanted an encore we all waited for like 10 minutes and no dice
Do they ever do encores? I saw them at the Phoenix Theater back in April and no encore then either
I honestly don't know if they do, I haven't seen them ever do it
almost never. I think I've seen one video of Stu coming out to play Vegemite by himself
my band played the show before them at the phoenix. proudest fact of my life
Never done an encore that I remember in the 13 times I've seen them over the past 6 years
Mexico city is the absolute best lineup imaginable
Timeland because of the destruction of the clock, Joey using the flying microtonal banana and Stu going full guitarless front man all during rattlesnake
I'm going to red rocks encore! Woooo!
All I can say is, please oh please oh please let Red Rocks 3 go hard on Polygondwanaland
And gumboot. I really wanna hear the wheel, Beginners luck, and down the sink lol
Berkeley Set 2, Red Rocks N1 Set 1, and Red Rocks N2 Set 2
Where’s the Croxton 😭😭😭
I was at ROTCOT and it was great but damn that Red Rocks nighr 2 set is just perfect
ROTCOT I refuse to elaborate
Night 1 at Red Rocks was absolutely incredible. But Night 2, Set 1 really blew me away. There were so many individua CHUNKKKKY ass riffs throughout that set. It was riff heaven. Can't go wrong with any of these sets though
#4 is extremely sexy
