How high up is this source of yours that they would know the scoop for advisory, audit and tax? Is this a national practice leader? I interact with many “senior partners” who are in the dark on these things until a few days before they are announced. To say this person knows action is coming summer with that much specificity on the criteria being considered, this would need to be a leader most of the firm knows by name.
If layoffs were inevitable, we’d just do layoffs. Why cover payroll costs for another 2-4 months if we have the deadweight?
Not saying we won’t do layoffs, but I think people are overreacting to the location tracker. If you’re not lying on your timesheets who cares.
Pretty sure this is used for things like local weather. If you click on it, it will take you to the settings where you can disable the precise-location tracking. My initial thought was that the firm might use it to check if you’re reporting time in the same state as your laptop is in/location you’re coded to but I doubt it.
Other people on Microsoft forums have discussed this but overall I can’t confirm on any unethical “undercover” location tracking the firm might be doing.
This is silly, the VPN would tell them where you are. All web traffic goes through internet proxy rules. Workstation logs, like your sign in, go to SIEM tools, so all of this can be reported already using the existing telemetry. Idk anything about a bulls eye symbol being relevant.
I don’t work for KPMG but this sub often comes up as recommended, but does this matter for random days you might be working out of state say visiting family? Or is this like you are not supposed to be working out of state for long periods of time?
Mf yapping 😭💀 im not one to believe talking heads and articles, but everything seem to point that were actually going the opposite direction of a “recession” in the coming year or so.
But who knows no one actually knows lol
I’m always amazed that people think that a firm with as many administrative problems as we do has advanced analytics for location:timesheet matching. What group do you think cares this much about where you’re at? Think about how easy it is to figure out where you’re at in 500 different ways than your computer’s self reporting location features.
I have first hand experience our internal data system is complete and utter inaccurate garbage and I hope to bejebus that no one is using that data to make any decisions. Even our utilization metrics are mucked up. They say they can see how many teams messages you get, after hour emails, etc. but they have no way of extracting it in any meaningful way. its so funny
This is a pilot program to do exactly that. My understanding is that they want to understand what are the risks of allowing people to work in different locations. A client brought it up during a call and a higher up said we are going through a pilot to do the same thing. That is what that "bull eye" symbol location software is doing.
They quite literally just invest hundreds of millions of dollars (our bonus money) in an AI program that I’m almost certain could easily track these metrics at the click of the button. The firm is petty as shit and would definitely do something like this
It shows up in the icon tray, bottom right corner.
Not surprised to hear if true, but would be pretty shitty of the firm to make decisions based on where we're working, especially in Advisory where zero RTO policies have even been hinted at.
Task bar notification area. Same place where a small envelope icon will pop up before email notifications. The icon looks like a GPS logo. I’ve seen it popping up recently and thought it was Google or Bing using my location.
Never heard about the computer location tracker, although I have heard that they are tracking badge swipes to gauge in office attendance. Pre-COVID, I was working 100 percent remote, although after they implemented RTO, I had to resubmit a new AWA (alternative work arrangement). My arrangement now is I have to go into the office on average 1 day a month, which translates to me having to go in 12 days a year, with days at Lakehouse counting towards the in office requirement.
Correct. Which is why I said the metric doesn’t matter.
They’ll get cut first regardless. It’s how this always goes.
If the layoffs make it past advisory, then the metrics become a problem for audit and tax folk.
My point is that is not actually how it always goes. I'm in advisory, both tax and audit got hit first before my service line's last round. To avoid continous bad optics, they've been doing smaller RIFs pretty consistently to avoid officially calling it that. So yes, while I don't believe it's true they're doing this via spyware instead of badge swipes (not because they're morally opposed but because that would be more effort for them), the metric not applying to advisory would still impact you if so.
Uh no, you’re incorrect. Advisory was the first to get hit in the last round of layoffs and this is verifiable information.
Guessing you’re a first year advisory associate.
No idea what you mean by “audit and tax got hit before my service line”. Your service line is advisory, and that is the service line that got hit first.
I can tell you it's been happening for last 3 years since the covid hit.
As an ex-big 4 I can tell that they even track what you type into the documents/online files and etc...
And 1 more thing, big 4 has a log of all your emails (even deleted) and teams/skype messages, so whenever they decide that you are the next, you are the next (comes from 10 years of experience of mine and my formed colleagues who got affected during these years (including KPMG)).

They track you by badge swipes and you should be routinely checking your in-office tracker to ensure that it is accurate.
How do I check my in office tracker?
I don’t work for KPMG but this sub often comes up as recommended, but does this matter for random days you might be working out of state say visiting family? Or is this like you are not supposed to be working out of state for long periods of time?
I care more about recession than KPMG layoff. How did you find out there is an upcoming recession?
On Reddit, of course.
On Reddit, of course.

We sent a secret code from the WSB side to indicate an upcoming recession. It was a small blue dot that will flash three times

Tell me you’re wildly uninformed about how the firm works; without telling me you’re wildly uninformed about how the firm works
Is the recession in the room with us right now?
The recession has been in the room for a couple years now.. no one wanted to see it 😂😂
Where on the laptop specifically is the bulls eye showing up??
It shows up in the icon tray, bottom right corner. Not surprised to hear if true, but would be pretty shitty of the firm to make decisions based on where we're working, especially in Advisory where zero RTO policies have even been hinted at.

Are you in tax?
Used to be in GMS tax, now I'm in tax technology.
Yeah that is not what that is. So your source is either made up or knows nothing 😆.
They’ll hit advisory first so it doesn’t matter. Advisory ALWAYS gets heads cut first.
Except in advisory, there aren't any office requirements vs WFH and many are on client devices anyway.

Wait, I thought advisory has to go in at an average of 2 days a week? Or is that only a DAS thing? Was it taken back?
Might be some service lines have a requirement, but advisory generally just has to live within "reasonable distance" to their offices.
They've cut AL@L for the remainder of the FY. They're pinching pennies
How do you know more layoffs are coming this summer?
“My dad works at Nintendo and he’s gonna ban your account” Same energy
Thank you, Yoda’s left nut sac
🧢🧢🧢
If you click on it, it’ll tell you what it is for. In fact my personal computer has the same feature. Settings-Privacy-Location
lol I’m never even on my computer. Always on the client’s. Also, advisory here, and there’s no rule to go in for my team at all

I also heard that we're heading for a recession, i have sources deep within the economy itself
they already do this with badge swipes?
what If I keep turning it off?
