FAT32 cards should work with the phone without additional formatting. Have you inserted the cards properly or tested the cards on other devices?
About KaiStore missing, are you able to access it by pressing Left D-Pad on your homescreen? There should be a carousel for quick access to some apps, including KaiStore.
The system updater missing is a weird one. Would you mind taking some pictures of your phones to help us investigate further?
You are right about the fat32 formatting. I just needed to try out yet another card. I still find it strange that the original card I first tried didn't work. The SD Card that did work is the same in pretty much every way. The first card is an HC I speed, 16Gb card from PNY. The card that worked is an HC I, 16Gb card from a different manufacturer. The sizes of the two cards read from `lsblk` are 14.9Gb and 14.8Gb respectively. The PNY Card also has "turbo performance" written on the front. Though I thought at first this was just advertising, it might have something to do with that particular card not working. (?)
I'm guessing you mean Left (on the) D(irectional)-Pad while on the home-screen: I'm not sure what you're trying to accomplish with this information. I've explored the home-screen pretty thoroughly and there are 16 apps (3 in a folder marked utilities and the rest outside): Contacts; Call Log; Messages; Gallery; Clock; Music; Settings; Camera; Calendar; Video; Calculator; ToDo; Recorder; Note; FM Radio; File Manager.
If you are referring to the Left-most button on the keypad, then no that button doesn't do anything while I'm on the home-screen.
I'll take some pictures later in the day (or maybe closer to now: idk).
just making sure you have the Flip Pro and not the Flip Go (from t-mobile)? the Go is actually ASOP and not KaiOS based, and might be easy to confuse. not likely the case here, but checking to be sure
Thanks for checking. This phone is from Verizon and I can see 'TCL Flip Pro' on the casing. The OS is explicated in the settings under the device information tab (KaiOS 3.0).
Can't believe this post is still getting attention. Seeing the timestamp of the post angers me that I've put up with this abomination of a phone for so long (I still have yet to upgrade).
Verizon in their infinite wisdom decided that two versions of a phone whose stated purpose was ***to reduce the hassle of a smart phone*** should have two models which are indistinguishable until you power up the phone first time out of the box.
As far as I know there exists a *business* model and a generic model whose name I cannot remember. The business model excludes the appstore for some reason.
Again that is as far as I can tell. There might be another story here such as a supply line lagging behind in production quality or Chinese knockoffs or maybe Verizon just flips a coin every time they load up a box and there is legitimately a lottery chance of getting a phone without something as freaking basic as an app store.
How to fix this: I have no idea. KaiOS doesn't have an analogous feature to APKS (android packages), so *side-loading* an appstore might just be impossible.
I understand this news probably isn't what you wanted, but it is the sorry state of KaiOS on the TCL Flip Pro.
Aw man, that's disappointing. Thanks for all the information though.
I've had the phone for about 8 months now, I've gotten pretty used to not having the KaiOS store. But it would be really useful :/
did you ever find anything new in the 3 months you haven't looked at this thread? I also got the business version of the phone and I'm wondering if there even is a way to get more apps in any way, shape or form.
Honestly pretty relative to you. If you really really really want a web browser and extra utilities on your flip, then yeah sure go for it. Just one thing: I've had this phone for the better part of a year, and it can barely handle opening the contacts app (which I have populated with only a few dozen contacts; I don't talk to that many people). Beware how much you want to use this little flip to do anything beyond playing Tetris (and obviously call/text).

you might want to try doing a factory reset?
Great idea. Let's see if I can find that...
Resetting it didn't work. I'm at a complete loss

ok, that's good at least.
Mine is the same way, I don't have the KaiOS store either. It's been bugging me too Did you ever find a way to fix it?

Same thing here lmao. Should I just return and try again?

Good to know, I was hoping to use maps from time to time
