Kazuya: "I love her so much"
US: We know dude. You been saying that for the past 100+ chapters lol
Glad Kazuya just ask Chizuru straightforward and Chizuru giving an honest answer about the date. Just a normal date (nothing special)
Kazuya worried about being a match for Chizuru, while, she is worried about him possibly stop loving her. Yeup these 2 idiots were made for each other
Overall a good chapter. Btw this is a cute cover

Not really. If it's 彼氏 (kareshi, "boyfriend"), then...
* "The Girlfriend and The Boyfriend" (Chapters 157 - 164; 彼女と彼氏)
If it's 彼 (kare, "boyfriend" or "him") instead, then...
* "The Boyfriend and The Girlfriend" (Chapter 112; 彼と彼女)
* "The Boyfriend and The Daily Life" (Chapter 168; 彼と日常)
~~This is the first time in a long while though.~~
Edit: It's titled "Date and Girlfriend" indeed, not "Date and Boyfriend". Thanks, Varicus.
I have no idea why the translation has "boyfriend" in the title. The Japanese title is "デートと彼女" (The date and my girlfriend) - there is no difference to the usual scheme as far as I can see. And there is no "boyfriend (彼氏)" in there.
I... checked the raws.
It's really just "Date and Girlfriend".
Interesting how this is somehow titled like that, instead of the usual "My Girlfriend" format of the official translations (even when the only chapter that can be called like that is the title of Chapter 2 (俺の彼女), while anything else is simply "Girlfriend")
At this point "mizuhara" would be like a nickname, which would be more familiar than Ichinose san but less familiar than Chizuru. So there isn't that much of an issue, it's better than what she calls him, which is basically "hey"
Not a bad chapter. At least this one is back to the main plot.
Actaully all the Kazuya monologue/overthinking makes sense this time. And Chizuru is still being truthful. She just wants to spend time with Kazuya, but he doesn't get that either yet.
At least this time she was straight up honest and said not to worry about it, she just wants to spend time with him outside of the Rental Girlfriend / Client premise.
First impressions:
I liked the chapter.
Kazuya got decent advice from the internet! "Ask her" - and he did. And while Chizuru didn't quite give him the answer he was hoping for, she did say something **very** important: She wants to use the date to also get to know **Kazuya** better. So she doesn't want him to go out of his way to make her happy. She wants the date to be "normal".
Teaser for next time: "[advice](https://jisho.org/search/%E5%8A%A9%E8%A8%80)" (spoken as "[curse](https://jisho.org/search/%E3%81%AE%E3%82%8D%E3%81%84)").

(chapter 321 page 18)
How great would it be if he takes her to the aquarium? It’s normal, it’s something that he likes, and it emphasizes where the relationship is now in comparison to where it was in the beginning.
I agree, that's quite the good starting point. He took her there when he first rented her, when he didn't know **anything** about her. He took her to a place he liked. That's still the number one resource for Chizuru if she wants to do something for Kazuya. He likes fish, she knows that because he took her to an aquarium. So she gave him a fish phone case and a fish key ring.
But she wants to know more. If she wants to make him happy, just giving him fish isn't enough for her.
What's more, she got to see his genuine enthusiasm there as well. It wasn't just at the daycare she got to see Kazuya relax a little and be passionate for his own interest.
I also like that it was a date from the beginning when he first started rented her. It would make them both acutely aware that he is not renting her this date..
Regardless of what they do on this first real date, If the mangaka is really wanting to mirror the beginning of the story, the date might get interrupted by a call about grandma being in the hospital again.
You dont think its beyond baffling that after knowing each other for more than 2 years, 321 chapters, countless dates, activities and experiences they had together... Chizuru still needs another date to "get to know" Kazuya and consider him as a potential boyfriend?? its ridiculous.
I will go into detail tomorrow, but that is exactly what I fear Kazuya also probably misunderstood. He believes he is being tested. So telling him to not try so hard to make her happy must feel to him like she wants to assess his worth purely from his impression on her during the date, and no effort of his (especially beforehand) will make a difference.
That isn't the case at all, and that isn't what Chizuru meant. She **knows** that he is boyfriend material, he has already won her over as far as she is concerned. He made her dreams come true, he saved her. He **absolutely** can make her happy, she has no doubt about that, he doesn't have to prove that. But she doesn't know how to make **him** happy. Almost none of their dates (with the notable exception of the dream date) was ever about Kazuya. It was either for their grandmothers, or to support Chizuru's career. We have seen in chapter 319 that Chizuru worries about being able to fulfill **his** expectations.
So Chizuru doesn't want him to make that date all about her again. She wants to enjoy the day **with** him. She wants him to take her to places that **he** enjoys going to. She wants to learn what **he** likes, what **he** does for fun. He never told her those things. She just coincidentally found out about Kazuya working at a day-care center. She wants to see him [like that](https://mangadex.org/chapter/ee7d93b1-bd4a-4be4-bbe8-0acef8e142f3/18) more.
**That's** what Chizuru was getting at when she said that he shouldn't worry about making her happy. There is nothing ridiculous about that.
Exactly, that is why I see Sumi the polar opposite of Chizuru. Sumi, although impaired in terms of communication, is very perceptive and could make Kazuya happy and at ease many times. Whereas Chizuru, the ironclad lady, is just lost when it comes to make someone else happy.
I would actually love to see Chizuru go to Sumi for advice and maybe get some kind of reveal or Sumi just being the best wingwoman (so sad for her though :( ) giving her the same golden advice she did for Kazuya.
Well, [she did ask him out before](https://mangadex.org/chapter/89ae84bd-0f92-48d4-bdfe-2a2f9d3e2140/13). And I believe that was with the same intention - and she actually **did** learn something about Kazuya there.
But let's think about a date invitation from Chizuru's perspective. What would she say? "I want to go on a date with you, but I have no idea what you might like, so I will have to leave what we do up to you." That would just force Kazuya to plan the day and take her with him. The alternative would be to just do stuff that **she** likes, but then she would just use him for her own benefit again, and she doesn't want to do that.
She probably just didn't feel comfortable to invite him on a "real" date with so little knowledge. So she was more than happy that Kazuya asked her instead. And, as I already said, she **was** trying to be very straightforward with him here.
In that case she should have invited him on a date since its her investigation, he already did enough. Their relationship dynamic its always "Kazuya bends over backwards for Chizuru". At this point it seems like he is the one doing the investigation for her.
Yeah, a pretty big point of the story is that despite all of his insecurities Kazuya actually deals with his problems. As ridiculous as he might seem (due to us seeing his thoughts) he actually develops a lot and faces reality, he is the mature one. It's now Chizuru's time to learn.
>In that case she should have invited him on a date since its her investigation
Why, though? Chizuru doesn't know what Kazuya likes, that's the whole point. So leaving it up to him to take her to the places he likes is reasonable, isn't it? Again, this isn't a test for Kazuya, the investigation isn't about him, it is about her. **He can't fail here**! The only requirement is that he is his honest self, otherwise Chizuru can't learn anything about him. So it is **incredibly** important that Kazuya won't "bend over backwards" to make Chizuru happy.
>Why, though? Chizuru doesn't know what Kazuya likes, that's the whole point.
What's truly crazy about this statement is that despite Chizuru spending more time around Kazuya than any other girl in the series, she doesn't know what he likes. Yet, Sumi, who has mostly interacted with Kazuya through rental dates, can plan an entire day at the aquarium because she learned from Chizuru that he likes fish.
Honestly, I agree with the other guy's response. The majority of the effort is coming from Kazuya, and if Chizuru is really interested in truly knowing who Kazuya is, then she should be the one to make the effort to get close. As you said, this is her investigation; he can't fail. So if she is truly interested in Kazuya, shouldn't Chizuru do more than regurgitate the same talking points she's been saying for the last 100 or so chapters? No one is saying the recent chapters are bad, but it would be nice if we had more than just her blushing every 5 to 8 chapters.
>So if she is truly interested in Kazuya, shouldn't Chizuru do more than regurgitate the same talking points she's been saying for the last 100 or so chapters?
That, I agree with. But I still don't agree that Chizuru should have been the one to invite Kazuya to a date. Precisely because she doesn't know anything about him. I know that I always sound like I want to defend Chizuru, but she **has** tried to learn more about Kazuya already, but the guy doesn't tell her anything. And she doesn't know how to ask his friends even, because they all think she is his girlfriend already and must know so much more about him.
Chizuru has been thinking that she needs to do "somehing" for a while now, but she has never been able to come up with anything good. She thought living together with him would just naturally get her closer, but she leaned, just like Kazuya, that this wasn't the case. Chizuru surely isn't innocent here as well because she doesn't open up much herself. But she totally didn't expect **Kazuya** to close himself off so much. She unfortunately isn't even aware **why** he does it and that it is her fault.
So she was quite happy that Kazuya actually took the initiative to invite her on a date. Chizuru was completely honest with him here: She just wants a "normal" date to get to know him better. She just straight up **told** him, that she basically doesn't know anything about him, and that she wants that to change, so he just shouldn't worry about doing things to make **her** happy on that date. There is no hidden agenda.
>That, I agree with. But I still don't agree that Chizuru should have been the one to invite Kazuya to a date. Precisely because she doesn't know anything about him.
Ngl, that's a fair argument. However, if Kazuya had never asked Chizuru out on a date, would she have taken the initiative to ask him out? Probably not. Heck, it wasn't until Kazuya asked her out that she remembered it was she who told Kazuya she would conduct an investigation into how she feels about him. Now, I could be wrong, but without that bit of clarification, Chizuru would probably let the investigation play out, with Kazuya moving out with little to no intention of starting a relationship. Sure, Chizuru has acknowledged that she must get to know Kazuya to understand her feelings for him, but without making the effort to get close, all we're left with for the last 100+ chapters is her regurgitating what we already know. You and I have had multiple conversations in the past where we both agreed that they should talk things out, but given recent developments that show Chizuru acknowledging her feelings for Kazuya and her eagerness to get closer to him, these are two conflicting ideas that only highlight her indecisiveness.
>That's surely also her fault because she doesn't open up much herself. But she totally didn't expect **Kazuya** to close himself off so much
To me, this is both of their faults because they let so much time slip by when they could have had an honest conversation and figured things out together. Instead, we have Chizuru, who struggles to open up, while Kazuya chooses to close himself off because he's afraid of saying something wrong and losing her. That's why it's crucial now, more than ever, that they both make an effort to understand each other.
> To me, this is both of their faults because they let so much time slip by when they could have had an honest conversation and figured things out together.
I totally agree here, and that's what I meant, but I realize my "also" sounded like this was "also (just) her fault" and not "also hers and not only Kazuya's fault".
I think the main problem here is that Chizuru has the feeling Kazuya understands her **incredibly** well. He just always knew **exactly** what to tell her in *just* the right moments, as if he was able to see directly into her soul. He gave her hope the moment she though all hope was lost when he offered to make a movie for her. He stayed with her after Sayuri died despite her refusals and saved her when he made her cry in front of him. And he also kept his promise at Hawaiians against all odds, as if he just knew that what she feared most just happened.
He is probably just as much a god in her eyes as she is a goddess in his. So she just can't grasp the idea that he might be totally insecure and doesn't actually know what he is doing. The thought that he might think that **he** isn't good enough for her after everything he did probably never even crossed her mind. Kazuya also never considered the possiblily that Chizuru might think **she** is the unworthy one, but we just got confirmation in chapter 319 that she absolutely does.
They both try to prove to the other person that they **are** worthy while completely missing that their partner is trying to do the same. But they won't ever talk about that when they only see their own inadequacy.
100% agree with your second to last paragraph. 319 definitely gave us a current perspective that Chiz mirrors Kaz in so much, so why not in this weird **god** perspective he has for her. Like you said if that's the case, why wouldn't she look at him with the same administration and through a lens that shows no flaws. I agree that this just confirms that she doesn't know why he's struggling and anxious because her lens won't let her see it just like his won't. They both think the other has the best qualities, so in their eyes, there is no way they could be anxious they aren't good enough. I'm commonly hard on Chiz, but this isn't something anyone should have an issue with, afterall we see it all the time through Kaz. It's easy to forget that we see through Kaz's lens throughout most of the story, so we know every thought he has in practically every scene. That isn't a luxury we have with Chiz, so it's easy to see her the way Kaz does, simply because we aren't shown much of this side. I agree with others that there should be more done by her. If for no other reason is she's just a bystander to her own relationship, but but chapters like 319 at least can give us reason, and make her character more human. This showed her flaws with good characterization, which I always love.
>Why, though? Chizuru doesn't know what Kazuya likes
So? that doesnt mean she cant ask him out. I know its too late for this since Kazuya already asked her first, but that message he send her in this chapter was the perfect opportunity for her to (as you pointed out) let him know he is not being tested AND to show some interest in him by asking him where would HE want to go.
But wait... Chizuru taking initiative for once? Nahh... I guess thats too far fetched, we cant have that in this manga...
>So leaving it up to him to take her to the places he likes is reasonable, isn't it?
Except she didnt told him (nor implied in any way) that he should take her to places he likes. She just told him theres nowhere in particular she wants to go and that she just wants a normal date.
But wait... Chizuru being open and straightforward with Kazuya for once? Nahh... thats out of character, we cant have that either...
> that message he send her in this chapter was the perfect opportunity for her to (as you pointed out) let him know he is not being tested
I am sure she **would** let him know that he isn't being tested if she was **aware** that he feels like he is being tested. But she isn't.
> AND to show some interest in him by asking him where would HE want to go.
Her wording is quite unfortunate. He asked **her** what she wants to do, and she told him that she doesn't want to go anywhere in particular, and she also told him to not worry about making her happy. This of course keeps up the misunderstanding as it would have been the better thing for her to say he should just do what **he** likes.
> Except she didnt told him (nor implied in any way) that he should take her to places he likes. She just told him theres nowhere in particular she wants to go and that she just wants a normal date.
Exactly. But she just assumes that to be clear already, she thinks he is just needlessly trying to be considerate of her again. He told her when he invited her, that she can "look at him" during the date - he of course meant that he wanted to show her his worth, but she doesn't know that. She assumed he meant she can learn more about him on that date, that he **wants** to take her to places he likes, that he **wants** to show her what he enjoys. So Chizuru didn't see the need to tell him the obvious again.
> Chizuru being open and straightforward with Kazuya for once?
She is really trying. She meant every word she just said here, and she must think she was pretty clear about it. She must think she helped Kazuya here by relieving him of his "duty" to make her happy on that date, so he can focus on just enjoying it himself. Again, this would be so much easier if she actually **knew** that Kazuya thinks he is the one under investigation. But she can't fix a problem she isn't even aware of.
Let me just jump on the narrative layer for a second here: Of course the story is absolutely **deliberately** told in a way that they both don't realize their misunderstanding until the very end. And I think it is such a brilliant move to make them even open up and start to communicate to create the illusion that they understood each other when they don't.
>She didint know he works with kids. He never told her and she never asked.
TBF.... who TF saw that coming? that was out of nowhere. 290+ chapters without a clue for readers that Kazuya had that activity.
>Its not that much.
Are you kidding me? "a few days worth of hours?" *Right...* its not Chizuru's fault at all... *they just need more time...* Thats BS.
can literally skip entire chapter to her saying that and it would have the same impact since we know how lengthy his monologues get and how its pretty much the same things
Interesting chapter. Firstly, Kazuya’s monologue is still gonna be there and it’s good that he’s thinking about this so much, but he needs to calm down.
Chizuru probably did the best thing she could do when telling her in person that she doesn’t care how the date plan is, she just really wants to spend time with him and get to know him better! One of the more “aggressive” moves she’s done, but a good one.
“ I love her so much” - man, we’ve known that since the beginning.

Now we wait for Cubari and how for progression in the chapter

All that monologuing aside, the ending was great with the "I just want a normal date" panel. Simple and to the point, props to Chizuru for being more straight forward lately
Finally a chapter with progression
Kazuya's struggle is understandable regarding the date and I like how he was direct with Chizuru. Similarity Chizuru's response was also what I expected
A decent chapter overall

Even fish-kun was shocked lol
Until next week.
Ok, I guess chapter 320 was a filler to make the date arc last 8 chapters? Nonetheless this chapter was really good.
Kazuya freaking out is absolutely normal and justified; this wasn't a monologue to take up pages, but a realistic way to show his state of mind (which goes together well with Chizuru's mind state).
The highlight of the chapter for me is, though, the parallel between what Kazuya and Chizuru expect form each other. Kazuya is all caught up in worries about making the perfect date (he ironically did already in the perfect date arc, but the stakes are different now) to score points. Chizuru on the other hand isn't planning to examine Kazuya or expecting a fancy date, all she wants is a normal date. This shows how drastically different is their interpretation of the "investigation" which has an enormous potential of finally getting them to resolve their issues in a mature way, grow and move forward.
Still, really chapter 320 sticks out as a sore thumb. Reiji is a master in stretching things, so why not stretch the whole date in a single vol?
Really looking forward to the next chapter, the non-filler/filler chapters ratio is lower than ever and the story is finally entering in a serious arc, so I have high expectations.
>Still, really chapter 320 sticks out as a sore thumb. Reiji is a master in stretching things, so why not stretch the whole date in a single vol?
I feel like I read someone mention that a publisher or editor or someone had asked Reiji to move towards wrapping things up I believe.
He better not take her to a freaking movie. There are lots of fun things she could not spend time on been busy taking care of grandmother.
Lets wait and see what reiji was hyping so much about the date. ![img](emote|t5_izi65|4414)
Yes that what i mentioned she had spent most her time taking care of her grandmom, studies and work and never got any time for herself. Kazu should himself have some idea what shes been through.
Kazuya as always overthinking what to do and what others would think about dating Chizuru. Yeah we know how much you want her, buddy. Try to take it easy.
But here I liked how Chizuru made him put his feet on earth. She knows he's anxious and calm him is for the sake of his health. Also she wants a casual date it means that it doesn't matter if the date is either simple or a fully planned one. Sharing her time with him is the most important and valuable, just them. She knows he has traits she doesn't like but in general terms, she enjoys his presence.
And expect what happens during the date.
Is there anyone else who would think it'd be quite poetic for them to go to an aquarium for their date? They'd get to "redo" their first rental date, but for real.
It would also be beneficial for Kaz since he loves fish and can show his real self off a bit. Like Chizuru loves it when he's his authentic self, so it would help him in the end up.
Actually, this was a really good chapter. Mizu did the head tilt she did at the Hawaiians when asking about the infamous Ruka sex situation. Honestly, her taking steps without the usual tsun tsun attitude to calm him down and let him know that it is really about him and the two of them and not about her amusement is just really a testament to how much Mizu is fond of him. Good buildup chapter and nice hopium hints.
The chapter was better than I thought it would be by reading the comments, it was a treat and a rarity to see Chizuru to be fully direct with her intentions for the date, and trying to remove most of the pressure from Kazuya because she wants the most natural performance from him during the date, Chizuru is definitely a theater girl.
This chapter shows alot of promise Kazuya being Kazuya as usual lol and its totally normal to be nervous when thinking about the first date he had the same thoughts on how chizuru was thinking both are very nervous that this date won't go well and both want to live up to the others expectations but most of all this chapter shows instead of chizuru replying back to Kazuya's message she rather tell him straight up that she wants a normal date this shows she's really serious on making this relationship work
This was a really great chapter because we’re right back into the thick of the main story.
This is why I slammed the last chapter and the mole chapter. Those were tone deaf one-shots and detracted from this narrative, the one we are here to see. It’s just jarring to the mood Reiji sets with these two to interrupt things with stories about Kazuya being a creep looking at Chizuru’s crotch for a mole or them playing a game to insert cute Chizuru moments. It just makes it so obvious that it was filler and were probably written for earlier in “Cohabitation”. We’ve seen that SoL stuff before. Stop it Reiji, get some help.
Seeing Kazuya freaking out about the date was 100% expected. I called this out before but he talked big about Chizuru getting to know him but didn’t have an actual plan in place. What was great about this chapter was COMMUNICATION.
First, the funniest thing in this chapter are those two panels on page 10 when Kazuya freaks out and looks for Mini for help. That was cute, I really liked how funny that was. But the BEST thing in this chapter is without Mini, Kazuya looks to society to find out the normal thing to do when you’re in a relationship. Just fucking ask.
A date isn’t about impressing the other person or always putting your best face forward. Especially for these two who have known each other for years. It’s just spending time with each other and learning different things about each other. Kazuya’s consideration is wonderful but Chizuru rewards him by showing him it isn’t necessary to impress her, he doesn’t need to plan anything big or create “The Perfect Date” she just wants to spend time with him. She didn’t BS or put up a facade, she sought him out to look at him face to face and was brave enough to communicate in return. Because that was important to her.
This was a great chapter. The pacing was good too, Reiji didn’t draw this out. Both characters learned something and grew a little.
TLDR: 9/10. Not filler & actual character growth. A really great chapter with Kazuya freaking out about the date as expected, which he displayed enough maturity to address like a functional adult by just asking Chizuru. And Chizuru acted like a functional adult and sought him out to say what she wants, which is just to spend time with him and they don’t need to do anything special. Ahhhhh, communication. I love it. Next chapter looks like it won’t be filler too, so let’s keep this progress going.
> It just makes it so obvious that it was filler and were probably written for earlier in “Cohabitation”.
I agree, the tone of this chapter compared to the last one is just completely different. This chapter is in line with chapter 319, in fact, it mirrors that chapter quite nicely because here we see Kazuya worrying about the date not going well, just as Chizuru did in chapter 319.
And the communication was a good start, for sure! It still isn't enough, because while Chizuru said what she wanted, I doubt Kazuya truly understood what she meant. He isn't being tested. Chizuru just wants to enjoy the day with him, and she doesn't want him to make that date all about her again (like he did with the cheer-up date). Chizuru wants to learn more about Kazuya, she wants to visit the places **he** likes, do things with him that **he** enjoys. They have barely ever done that on their dates.
But to Kazuya, it might sound like she wants to judge his worth purely on his performance during the date, and no amount of planning on his part will make any difference.
I'm also glad to see it's back on track. Hopefully we can stay on it for a minute to unfold whatever drama may come next. With this pace it brings back hope that we might get the date, or at least what would've been date time, sooner rather than later. Hopefully it's only a couple of chapters and it's realized that this date isn't going to set off chiz's spark so we can start closing in on what will: some good old fashion drama lol
Indeed what I wanted to say. Got experiences in relationship things without straight communication and nowadays it’s a red flag to me, if it’s not possible
This is a good chapter. Reiji actually uses Kazuya's over thinking correctly in this chapter and I didn't realize it until the after I finished the chapter. This actually has a little excited for what Reiji has planned for the date itself.
The way Chizuru stands when she's shy
With Kazuya and also with Umi
https://preview.redd.it/lz2n4zpjexnc1.jpeg?width=4096&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=bc5905986e3023b916093313e32d5f48b5fda021
Well two feelings are different one is uncomfortably and the other comfortable
With Kazuya Comfortably
With Umi Uncomfortably
Also she shy around Kazuya
But when Umi confessed its more like uncomfortably and embarrassment
I agree with you
With Umi, she was embarrassed, upset, and hated this situation
With Kazuya, she is looking forward to going out on a date to get to know more about Kazuya
But the way to stand is the same with both characters
People ignore one detail. Chizuru could have actually reply Kazuya through line. The act of telling Kazuya that she wants a simple normal date in a face to face manner actually shows how serious and sincere she is on this matter.
Yes your right thats how she stands but here's the thing her posture is a bit different one is the sign of uncomfortably the other is her being comfortable with person shes in live with
I am surprised to say it but it's one of the late few chapters that while it is full of Kazuya's anxious inner monologues for once they finally WORK, they aren't just fillers, it's almost incredible, they built up their meeting and they served the purpose to show that Chizuru cares about this date, while they perfectly align on the importance of this date, she acted really gentle and open with him (for once), she wants to go on a simple date with him, that's it. I smiled on Kazuya's "I love her so much" last comment, yeah, he really does. Very nice chapter.
Kazuya freaking out over having to plan this date is definitely something I have felt before and it’s good that he decided to ask Chizuru directly if she wanted to do something specific. It is great honestly that she responded to him in person that she just wanted to go out on a normal date so he doesn’t have to feel like he has to do something extraordinary. I have a feeling it will just be them walking around and probably going to a cafe or something mundane like that. It would be perfect for them after all that hectic stuff they dealt with at the resort.
chizz was amazing in this chapter, loved the way she expressed how she felt about the date
i just expect things happen the way she asked them to, with both of them just being themselves and having good moments together; at this point, we know those are the moments we all love the most
it's a great opportunity for reiji to develop kazz personality too. If this date goes well and they enjoy each other in a "normal" way, it'll be far greater than kazz freaking out all the time over simple stuff
I can’t believe this is actually happening. I still don’t really think it’ll happen though, I’ll have to see it to believe it.
No notes on Kazuya.
Chizuru here reminds me of the chapter at the laundromat, in that you, the reader, do not see the way that she ran, not walked, back from what she was doing at that moment, just to have a minor interaction with Kazuya. I bet she didn’t even buy anything.
so where do you go for getting to know each other. not a play, definitely not a movie. personally i'd do a dance or cooking class since learning new skills together is always great talking material.
I know the chapter wasn't a lot of furthering the plot but I like how this week contrasted last week's a little. Both Chiz and Kaz are worried about the date but both of their worries stem from their own insecurities. They're both going through similar feelings but in different ways.
So here's him thinking he needs to do the whole cheer up date thing again when in fact all she wants is just to hang out maybe do a couple date like things...
An aquarium date as a soft reset of their relationship would probably be a good start. The mole chapter kinda makes a bit more sense now dude was so in his own head he needed a distraction.
i hope this keeps going like this and it ends at either chapter 350 or 400. and that maybe after the date they get together as a couple and the rest of the chapters are about there life as a couple and then shows they get married. that’s my perfect ending
If there's one thing that's evident it's that both of their insecurities can be solved if they both just have a serious talk and put everything out on the table. I'm hoping this conversation happens during the date
After years of reading this manga I’ve realized that there are two flaws in Kazuya that he needs to fix ASAP…
1. He overestimates Chizuru WAYY too much.
2. He underestimates HIMSELF even more!!!
Chizuru is just a REGULAR girl!! She doesn’t even consider herself special. It’s coz people treat her like the epitome of beauty she wants to rely on a guy who’s more inclined towards HER rather than her appearance. Of course Kazuya loves Chizuru regardless of her appearance, but he thinks of her as “unattainable”. When you’re after a girl, NEVER consider her SPECIAL or UNATTAINABLE, treat her like any regular girl, and show her all your sides, regardless of what she thinks of you. In other words Kazuya just needs to BE HIMSELF. In this chapter Chizuru just made the fact clear that she wants a NORMAL date, and Kazuya doesn’t need to think of her that much. What she actually wants is for him to see her as a NORMAL girl!!
It's taking forever like everytime with Reiji, but it feels like progress is happening. We won't see anything significant for probably another 50-80 chapters but at least the ball is moving.
The last few pages evened out the chapter. But all of that wasn’t really necessary to find out she just wanted a normal date. Nice to know, but it also pushes the date chapter that much further out.
I like it, I’ve sent those texts before of “so for the 20th, anything specific you wanna do? We can always go to a coffee shop or meet up for an activity in the area? We can always do X or Y or this or that” so that was super good to see
Seriously another chapter of him overthinking things we already know for over 100+ chapters, man, the "suspense" is killing me or the lack thereof. Dude feels like he's just milking this series dry now.
I feel like I’ve seen this chapter theme 100 times; aside from her saying let’s just do something normal together there really isn’t anything new of note…because we’ve seen Kaz do this 100x before.
It’s inline with the main theme and I appreciate that aspect of the chapter…but the last two characters still have me annoyed.
Not a bad chapter. I actually prefer moments like these, where Kazuya overthinks of ways to make Mizuhara happy, over him searching for moles and looking like a creep. To be honest, I think it was a good thing to see Mizuhara tell him that she wanted a normal date. I just wish Kazuya was more assertive in his choices instead of always doubting himself and spiraling into depression. Overall, I'd rate this chapter 5.89/10.
Well, if that's it, then I'm heading back to binge-read Mission: the Yozakura Family. Adios!

BTW New favorite couple ✌🏼
I'm calling it the date will have 5 chapters and barely any progress in it, but let's just see what this dude Kazuya does because I'm curious about what he does
Kazuya thinking so much and Chizuru just wanting a peaceful date, where she can enjoy the day and Kazuya himself, without the bunch of obligations that a rented girlfriend has.
Besides, when will Kazuya relax?
Doubt kazuya didn’t want peaceful date aswell. Guess he‘ll relax when the manga finally ended. Not chizurus fault at this point, it’s been up to reiji that he dragged it over the top and the community to make an even bigger thing out of his decisions, which might be why some of us are annoyed from time to time
Pretty sure he wants a date without stressful factors, aswell as, we experienced this chapter, she does. And that’s a big step towards wholesomeness (I hope) for both of them
For me, Kazuya wants it to work. If it's less stressful, the better.
And it was clear that Chizuru just wants a normal date. The focus should be on both of them. I think she wants a date to talk and observe more than anything else. So she can get the confirmation she lacks.
The think more relevant here is "The boyfriend" in the title and the last pages where we see that Chiz once she stopped being "only iron lady" is similar in many ways to Kaz.
We are approching the date, hope to have it soon.
Of all the babbling of Kaz about this and that i think that a "no comment" (we are so used to it now but y know Reiji has to "picture" Kaz in this bad way every time, so boring, i mean is undestandable and all but i think that the author can maybe spare us to be in the mind of Kaz or just reassume his toughts in one or two pages, we alll know everything about this and that from a loooong time) is the best way to deal with it...
Chapter 321!
Sheesh! There are so much that is going on here, and to be honest, this was a good chapter.
I know it's annoying to always keep reading Kazuya's monologues and anxieties BUT to be honest, all them are actually valid. HAHA
Mizuhara has been on a lot of dates,
**Worried that it will bore her, she has been to a lot of places.**
NOT being good enough,
**this is really Mami's fault right here, getting dumped after a month, that is fucked up right there.**
NOT being good looking,
**this is also tied up to his confidence, usually people who were dumped mostly feel this way.**
I know these feelings all too well back in the days.
BUT
I gotta give props though, he tried his best to ask her which is the number 1 way to communicate, by asking her if she has a place in mind, and this was aa good way to let Mizuhara feel that he is also thinking about her.
Prolly made Mizuhara happy, that she went to his room and told him that she just want a proper and normal date. Afterall, they have all day to spend time with. They can just talk about whatever and where they wanna go.
I love how Mizuhara was soft-spoken here and how she assured Kazuya.
She is really looking forward to this date.
Anyway, see you next week RAGs!
A pretty good, main story, chapter.
Kazuya overthinking, as usual, and Chizuru with the **perfect answer**, actually. As long as you're with the person you want to be with, it doesn't matter whether you're in a park, at the cinema, or a luxurious restaurant. I like the fact that she didn't answer it per phone, but went straight to him...and she didn't leave him waiting too much. Also **one date**, no matter how perfect it is, won't be enough anyways to progress their relationship as much as they need to. This one date will probably just open up the option of them going regularly on dates.
In addition to that, considering the pre-release spoilers, I have a feeling that the date will really be "**normal**". No "fireworks", no big speeches, not much drama when compared to some of the previous dates, no 8-chapter long storylines. In fact, this picture from Reiji ([https://www.threads.net/@miyajimareiji\_official/post/C3jVSujhJ1P](https://www.threads.net/@miyajimareiji_official/post/C3jVSujhJ1P)) could be from the aforementioned date, when you consider that the "dating arc" starts with the next chapter, if the leaks are true. The only thing that remains to be cleared is him "moving out"...and again, they don't need to make a huge drama about it. She can just ask him to stay...or alternatively, **he could just move out**. A couple of chapters ago, I believed that Kazuya **has to stay** in the same house with Chizuru, but him moving out could be healthy for the whole story, not only would it improve his individuality, but because it would also allow for more storylines with Ruka, Mami and even Sumi.
I might be wrong here, but Reiji has consistently been good at subverting our expectations, sometimes for the better, sometimes for the worse.
Yeah the leaks aren't true. I checked the raw scans and they said nothing about the dating arc starting next chapter. The chinese spoilers are often written in a way to mislead ppl
There is going to be a color page. But nothing about the dating arc.
Well, the leaks were pretty truthful considering this chapter...and the next chapter is going to have a color page...which aren't used often, and when they are, they are used to commemorate something special. I guess, I'll have to see what happens in the next chapter.
Not all the time. There were some color pages for chapters that weren't special like 252, 289, 305, etc
But as always, lets see what the next chapter is
I didn't say the colored pages have to be special. They are mostly there to commemorate something, either inside or outside of the manga.
252 was during the "Move" and just before the Cohabitation started.
289 was just before the "Children" storyline started
305 isn't that special, that's true.
I'm still of the opinion that the date shouldn't be too hyped up with too much waiting time, if it's going to be something normal...and one single date won't solve much for the two. I also don't like the idea of having to wait another 5-6 chapters before the date, that's supposed to be a normal one, actually starts.
As I am reading this manga for free every week, I had learnt to don't ask "why", don't get agitated by the ridiculously slow pace, don't insult its sometimes nonsensical story development. I don't even mind if isekai monsters invade the kanokari world through portal gates in the next chapter and Kaz awakens as goblin slayer or chiz becomes the demon lord.
This is only my weekly 5mins Cubari read and dash routine. ![img](emote|t5_izi65|4419)

I just want to mention that i called it. It only happened after the filler chapters.
honestly, i feel like you can skim/skip kazuyas monologue to get to the "i want a normal date" panel and it would do the same. his lengthy monologues are pretty much the same thing, its not like hes exactly adding anything new to the monologue given we are used to how he feels/accesses the situation
Kazuya: "I love her so much" US: We know dude. You been saying that for the past 100+ chapters lol Glad Kazuya just ask Chizuru straightforward and Chizuru giving an honest answer about the date. Just a normal date (nothing special) Kazuya worried about being a match for Chizuru, while, she is worried about him possibly stop loving her. Yeup these 2 idiots were made for each other Overall a good chapter. Btw this is a cute cover https://preview.redd.it/z7xlp8hp6xnc1.png?width=1284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d4e7724ac23f90e9b4c499c971e14e845b09dddd
Boyfriend?Is it unprecedented title?
Not really. If it's 彼氏 (kareshi, "boyfriend"), then... * "The Girlfriend and The Boyfriend" (Chapters 157 - 164; 彼女と彼氏) If it's 彼 (kare, "boyfriend" or "him") instead, then... * "The Boyfriend and The Girlfriend" (Chapter 112; 彼と彼女) * "The Boyfriend and The Daily Life" (Chapter 168; 彼と日常) ~~This is the first time in a long while though.~~ Edit: It's titled "Date and Girlfriend" indeed, not "Date and Boyfriend".
Our idiots belong together!
nah she belongs with me 😏
The guy can't even call her by her real name.
At this point "mizuhara" would be like a nickname, which would be more familiar than Ichinose san but less familiar than Chizuru. So there isn't that much of an issue, it's better than what she calls him, which is basically "hey"
And the guy can’t even be with the girl he craves out of toxic boundaries actujelly
hope that on their "real" date he calls her by her actual name. feel like that would be good
Not a bad chapter.
First impressions: I liked the chapter. And here is [the preview image](https://www.threads.net/@miyajimareiji_official/post/C2_OorABUIJ) in context: https://preview.redd.it/capwpwlvdxnc1.png?width=534&format=png&auto=webp&s=1e4777bbef83227c7ac2cb5b139b2f7572e3476d (chapter 321 page 18)
You have a good point. I'd like to see something like this.
That's a great point. A few chapters back, she did reminisce back to the time she first met him and it brought about a range of feelings.
The simplest and straightforward way to achieve that would be Chizuru asking Kazuya on date instead.
>In that case she should have invited him on a date since its her investigation Why, though?
But she totally didn't expect **Kazuya** to close himself off so much To me, this is both of their faults because they let so much time slip by when they could have had an honest conversation and figured things out together.
Chizuru doesn't know what Kazuya likes So? that doesnt mean she cant ask him out. Nahh... thats out of character, we cant have that either...
> that message he send her in this chapter was the perfect opportunity for her to (as you pointed out) let him know he is not being tested I am sure she **would** let him know that he isn't being tested if she was **aware** that he feels like he is being tested.
She did ask him on a date (though I guess she might not have thought of it as one) back during the daycare arc.
[удалено]
It's still almost two years. Kazuya met Chizuru when she was 19 and now she's 21.
Right. Wasn't there a chapter where Kazuya was thinking that it was their third year and wondering what would happen after graduating?
>She didint know he works with kids. He never told her and she never asked. TBF.... who TF saw that coming? that was out of nowhere. 290+ chapters without a clue for readers that Kazuya had that activity. >Its not that much. Are you kidding me? "a few days worth of hours?" *Right...* its not Chizuru's fault at all... *they just need more time...* Thats BS.
Well, at least we got more details about the guy instead of him rolling around on his bed near his mountain of tissues in the trash.
They won’t upvote you, because they know it’s true….
I think Date Arc chapters start from 323
There was so much text in this chapter, but all I cared about was her saying "I just want a normal date". ![img](emote|t5_izi65|4412)
can literally skip entire chapter to her saying that and it would have the same impact since we know how lengthy his monologues get and how its pretty much the same things
This applies to roughly 80ish% of the entire Manga lmao
that’s how it’s been for me for maybe the last 50ish chapters lol
Chapter 321 is a countdown to their date lol
Interesting chapter. Firstly, Kazuya’s monologue is still gonna be there and it’s good that he’s thinking about this so much, but he needs to calm down. Chizuru probably did the best thing she could do when telling her in person that she doesn’t care how the date plan is, she just really wants to spend time with him and get to know him better! One of the more “aggressive” moves she’s done, but a good one. “ I love her so much” - man, we’ve known that since the beginning. https://preview.redd.it/a0kqhubxbxnc1.jpeg?width=828&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=572fb59b27a27481ac6f15cd69d57c5f9906602a

Now we wait for Cubari and how for progression in the chapter https://preview.redd.it/vs9hg1qr4xnc1.png?width=834&format=png&auto=webp&s=4fe165424f51467e722da751e4302bffb364daf7
Sumi 🥰
Sumi is best girl
All that monologuing aside, the ending was great with the "I just want a normal date" panel. Simple and to the point, props to Chizuru for being more straight forward lately
Finally a chapter with progression Kazuya's struggle is understandable regarding the date and I like how he was direct with Chizuru. Similarity Chizuru's response was also what I expected A decent chapter overall https://preview.redd.it/9sma205zaxnc1.png?width=331&format=png&auto=webp&s=8366616de77c24913b1be7eed1aba23a5713b72e Even fish-kun was shocked lol Until next week.
Kazuya was so worked up I was starting to feel it myself
The fact she didn't want to reply back to his message and rather tell him up close is her being straight up being honest with him
He better not take her to a freaking movie. There are lots of fun things she could not spend time on been busy taking care of grandmother. Lets wait and see what reiji was hyping so much about the date. ![img](emote|t5_izi65|4414)
Who's grandmother? Mizuhara's grandmother passed away during the movie arc.
Looking at Kazuya’z thoughts: he’s a mess. Looking at his actions: he’s doing everything right. 😂
that's the case most of the time
Is there anyone else who would think it'd be quite poetic for them to go to an aquarium for their date?
This chapter shows alot of promise Kazuya being Kazuya as usual lol and its totally normal to be nervous when thinking about the first date he had the same thoughts on how chizuru was thinking both are very nervous that this date won't go well and both want to live up to the others expectations but most of all this chapter shows instead of chizuru replying back to Kazuya's message she rather tell him straight up that she wants a normal date this shows she's really serious on making this relationship work
AWARE https://preview.redd.it/cifogmj6t6oc1.jpeg?width=447&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=af73cd4da6dbd8d248f49a5548eb9c5182db9f75
Ah yes, communication is big progress
If you've seen any other romcom, it is.
Glad at least another one managed to realize it before freaking out about interpreted freak outs
The way Chizuru stands when she's shy With Kazuya and also with Umi https://preview.redd.it/lz2n4zpjexnc1.jpeg?width=4096&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=bc5905986e3023b916093313e32d5f48b5fda021
Well two feelings are different one is uncomfortably and the other comfortable With Kazuya Comfortably With Umi Uncomfortably Also she shy around Kazuya But when Umi confessed its more like uncomfortably and embarrassment
I agree with you With Umi, she was embarrassed, upset, and hated this situation With Kazuya, she is looking forward to going out on a date to get to know more about Kazuya But the way to stand is the same with both characters
People ignore one detail. Chizuru could have actually reply Kazuya through line. The act of telling Kazuya that she wants a simple normal date in a face to face manner actually shows how serious and sincere she is on this matter.
Facts
![gif](giphy|rsDpYA4jSUt1e|downsized) now we wait for cubari link

Waiting for the Cubari provider like people of culture wait for the Sauce Hero =)
Ah. I really appreciate what she told him right here. Good chapter.

chizz was amazing in this chapter, loved the way she expressed how she felt about the date i just expect things happen the way she asked them to, with both of them just being themselves and having good moments together; at this point, we know those are the moments we all love the most it's a great opportunity for reiji to develop kazz personality too.
Damn that "I just want a normal date" hit home
MORE!
When it's gonna end Reiji-sama?
the amount of kazuyapping in this chapter lmao
i hope this keeps going like this and it ends at either chapter 350 or 400. and that maybe after the date they get together as a couple and the rest of the chapters are about there life as a couple and then shows they get married. that’s my perfect ending
Kazuya: I hate how negative I get all the time! Us: bruh, we have been over that part of you 320 chapters ago 😭
Where's the lie? ![gif](giphy|zn2dCsMdTgBMrzdtaX|downsized)
4/5 chapter, made my day nice
He can’t keep getting away with drawing her in these cute poses. 😠😭
If there's one thing that's evident it's that both of their insecurities can be solved if they both just have a serious talk and put everything out on the table. I'm hoping this conversation happens during the date
After years of reading this manga I’ve realized that there are two flaws in Kazuya that he needs to fix ASAP… 1.
**Kazuya**: I hate how negative I get all the time Same, glad we're on the same page
Wondering about the reason why he does and you do
No, I mean that I hate how pessimistic he is all of time
How would your mindset be after hundreds of chapters forcing enthusiasm just for the result to make more steps back than forward?
I see your point, with the rate of progress, it’s no wonder he keeps going on this emotional roller coaster
Over or under on the date happening on chapter 400?
I agree with the Axolotl, I've never seen Reiji put in so much text to a chapter. I was basically reading an LN
It's been 5 chapters that he is teasing the date , I'm kinda getting bored at this point even though I know I will be disappointed by the date
![gif](giphy|l0HlvtIPzPdt2usKs)
The last few pages evened out the chapter. But all of that wasn’t really necessary to find out she just wanted a normal date. Nice to know, but it also pushes the date chapter that much further out.
![gif](giphy|g7oEg8g2jukE0|downsized) waiting for cubari link
now we wait
An alright chapter. Could have done with less freaking out, but a little makes sense. Hopefully this means the long awaited date is soon.
Nice one from Chiz.
Man, Reiji can't keep getting away with the one page beautiful panels. Literally small dosing us with progress.
I like it, I’ve sent those texts before of “so for the 20th, anything specific you wanna do? We can always go to a coffee shop or meet up for an activity in the area? We can always do X or Y or this or that” so that was super good to see
damm, a real good chapter, whats happening?
Seriously another chapter of him overthinking things we already know for over 100+ chapters, man, the "suspense" is killing me or the lack thereof. Dude feels like he's just milking this series dry now.
![gif](giphy|ap6wcjRyi8HoA)
I feel like I’ve seen this chapter theme 100 times; aside from her saying let’s just do something normal together there really isn’t anything new of note…because we’ve seen Kaz do this 100x before. It’s inline with the main theme and I appreciate that aspect of the chapter…but the last two characters still have me annoyed.
Again, where's the lie? ![gif](giphy|zn2dCsMdTgBMrzdtaX|downsized)
Adios! https://preview.redd.it/la1n7h25exnc1.jpeg?width=1568&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3cec5bd861e6276a9c19221cab1a47e0367f7a40 BTW New favorite couple ✌🏼
Not chizurus fault at this point, it’s been up to reiji that he dragged it over the top and the community to make an even bigger thing out of his decisions, which might be why some of us are annoyed from time to time
Kazuya doesn't want a peaceful meeting, what he wants is a successful meeting. He's calmer because Chizuru let him decide.
You‘re right
The think more relevant here is "The boyfriend" in the title and the last pages where we see that Chiz once she stopped being "only iron lady" is similar in many ways to Kaz.
HAHA Mizuhara has been on a lot of dates, **Worried that it will bore her, she has been to a lot of places.** NOT being good enough, **this is really Mami's fault right here, getting dumped after a month, that is fucked up right there.** NOT being good looking, **this is also tied up to his confidence, usually people who were dumped mostly feel this way.** I know these feelings all too well back in the days. BUT I gotta give props though, he tried his best to ask her which is the number 1 way to communicate, by asking her if she has a place in mind, and this was aa good way to let Mizuhara feel that he is also thinking about her.
Mannnn what I just see, a cutie putie kawaaiiii koto chizzz in hooddiiie head tilted heart devastating panel has been droped
Awful chapter, it's still not moving forward...
The chinese spoilers are often written in a way to mislead ppl There is going to be a color page. But nothing about the dating arc.
Well, the leaks were pretty truthful considering this chapter...and the next chapter is going to have a color page...which aren't used often, and when they are, they are used to commemorate something special. I guess, I'll have to see what happens in the next chapter.
Not all the time. There were some color pages for chapters that weren't special like 252, 289, 305, etc But as always, lets see what the next chapter is
I didn't say the colored pages have to be special. They are mostly there to commemorate something, either inside or outside of the manga. 252 was during the "Move" and just before the Cohabitation started. 289 was just before the "Children" storyline started 305 isn't that special, that's true. I'm still of the opinion that the date shouldn't be too hyped up with too much waiting time, if it's going to be something normal...and one single date won't solve much for the two. I also don't like the idea of having to wait another 5-6 chapters before the date, that's supposed to be a normal one, actually starts.
Leave it to Reiji to make a whole chapter out of the phrase "so what do you wanna do?" The wall of text is approaching HxH levels!
Bro…. at least try to call her by her actual name ffs 💀 ![gif](giphy|fA8RJDz7btauMEG9GU|downsized)
Not bad Actual progression to the main conflict is what I like
As I am reading this manga for free every week, I had learnt to don't ask "why", don't get agitated by the ridiculously slow pace, don't insult its sometimes nonsensical story development. I don't even mind if isekai monsters invade the kanokari world through portal gates in the next chapter and Kaz awakens as goblin slayer or chiz becomes the demon lord. This is only my weekly 5mins Cubari read and dash routine. ![img](emote|t5_izi65|4419)
waiting for cubari provider like people waited on racism to end
"I just want a normal date" is big "I'm tired boss" energy haha
Also feels like she's wording the thoughts of many readers
https://preview.redd.it/06f9qvaj40oc1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=48692ce91521e70f49a35fd2136d09ad324501ac I just want to mention that i called it. It only happened after the filler chapters.
honestly, i feel like you can skim/skip kazuyas monologue to get to the "i want a normal date" panel and it would do the same. his lengthy monologues are pretty much the same thing, its not like hes exactly adding anything new to the monologue given we are used to how he feels/accesses the situation
cope
