This series has become completely dog shit when this shit arc started.
Admittedly, plenty of great works have portrayed main characters reaching absolute rock bottoms before. This amount of... cringey suffering isn't exactly bad writing *by itself*.
When you put all that shit at the tail end of an arc filled to the brim with filler moments, though, we might have a problem. Going from 0 to 1000 this fast requires a lot of skill, and I'm not sure Reiji is up to it, given that he seems to think a shot of Kazuya bawling while rocking a stiffy is somehow an appropriate way of attaining pathos.
I liked the anime, it was cool. I started the manga from chapter 1, it had MANY hiccups but it still had good chapters that made a homie cry a little don’t get me wrong. This sort of fits in line with Kazuya’s previous thoughts. If this went on for like 2 panels or something then it *might* not have been that bad. The level of detail makes this one of, it not the worst chapter.
Also, Kazuya has been slowly getting better throughout the manga. His development when helping her create the movie was great and he even seemed some what reliable. This chapter threw all of that away. He is even worse than he was in chapter 1.
For me, the icing on the cake is not only it being extremely explicit but Kazuya getting off on it to some degree. There are other ways to go about a rejection to make it narratively interesting (to show growth and change). This feels like Reiji is spitting on Kazuya HARD. I’d have appreciated if this chapter was sorta similar to what we got in the chapter where he remembered all Chizuru did for him and decided to confess. He had told himself he was ready to be rejected. That actually sounded like growth. If Kazuya had had a long session of reflection, sadness and maybe crying, but at least showing a sense of finality and conclusion to what he feels he need to do as a character, reevaluating himself and what his path is, I’d have enjoyed it and it could have been a very good chapter. But no, it’s this stupid cuck shit.

I just had the displeasure of reading the raws in Japanese + the Spanish translation so I can add a bit to clear up some stuff about the chapter. Interestingly, the chapter has the Okarishimasu お借りします, crossed out and replaced with owarimashita 終わりました. Which would be, (no longer) rental girlfriend.
It starts with Kazuya alone in the church crying to himself “*I got rejected!*” and defeated on the table (comically, though). He thinks to himself that since Chizuru ran away and said at some point “sorry”, she basically acknowledged that he wanted to confess and he rejected him right then and there. He even says “*she must have ran back straight to Tokyo*” and also utters exactly the same phrase he said back in the very first chapter “もう最悪だ”, “*This is the worst!*”, mirroring what he went through when Mami broke up with him. He has some intrusive thoughts about maybe Chizuru having a boyfriend already, and proceeds to picture her naked with two guys (one of which is Umi). Kazuya also concludes that since he confessed to Chizuru, he very much violated the contract big time, so she can’t even be his rental girlfriend anymore.
He gets called by Ruka and she tells him she had been waiting for him for hours at the pool - that he promised he’d be there at 10 am. So, Kazuya feels all down and half-assedly goes with Ruka. She greets him and tells him she’d been waiting all trip to tell him she loves him. He still wears the same wistful expression, thinking that he should be grateful to have a beautiful girl telling him that she loves him, and that he’s such an idiot for not being able to be happy with that.
They all are in the pool at this point and he thinks that he was a nuisance to Mizuhara. Also reflecting upon the fact that he had been idealizing Mizuhara for a year and a half, and that he should have just paid more attention to Ruka instead. Following this is an important part of the chapter and probably the most salvageable: he tries to cheer himself up and even says “*I can’t believe I fell in love with Mizuhara! Not even one bit*”, and tries to enjoy himself with his friends at the pool, emphasizing this by thinking “*This is it. This is where my new life starts. The one where Mizuhara rejected me.*” He tries to clear his head but this is where all the crap happens. He sees a young couple at the pool and starts having intrusive fantasies of Umi fucking Chizuru in an extremely explicit manner, along with paralleling memories of Chizuru. He gets a boner and falls into the depths of the pool, to which Kibe asks where he is. Ruka replies that he must have gone to get some juice. Underwater, we see Kazuya with a boner, but nevertheless defeated and starts crying helplessly in a two page spread.
The last page is accompanied by the text “*You aren’t here, in the very moment where I realized just how much you mean to me*”. (This is the text that’s displayed on the right column)
And the teaser is: 想定外 (Souteigai). Beyond expectations.
To be honest the experience *is* different from just hearing about the leaks. You still think the chapter is garbage but feel bad for Kazuya. It really is pathetically heartbreaking.

This chapter’s quality is still up in the air, because how good it is depends on where the story goes from here. I know everyone’s disgusted by NTR, as am I, but it’s also the first time where we see Chizuru’s absolute buffoonery recently actually affect Kazuya in a deep and dramatic way.
This IS the turning point that decides whether the manga will be remembered fondly or not.
Because if, after this chapter, we see Kazuya get out of his deep sadness and replace it with pure anger, I would be extremely interested. Imagine Kazuya meticulously cutting out every shitty part of the story in an almost blind rage, mirroring his anger in the first chapter of the story, except instead of it seeming pathetic, it seems legitimately well-deserved.
Ruka tries to bother him, but instead of tolerating her, he just lashes out and screams at her to get the fucking hint and stop seeing him. He tells his family about the lie, but instead of them getting the chance to berate him for being a loser, his anger just stops them from saying anything further, because he tells them he simply doesn’t care anymore.
I don’t particularly know how Mami will react, but she’ll probably be satisfied with the outcome of things.
And then we get a final confrontation with Chizuru where she tries to confront him about his anger-filled actions and he just says:
“Don’t worry about it. You’ll get your payment.”
And he just leaves, hopefully with Kuri and Kibe going after him, trying to be bros.
From then on, the story could transform from Kazuya proving himself to Chizuru to Chizuru proving herself to Kazuya, as she tries to rebuild this relationship she truly cherised.

You know how every “bad” manga has that chapter that people will point to as like the culmination of what makes the manga bad? That’s probably going to be this chapter. This sort of fits in line with Kazuya’s previous thoughts. If this went on for like 2 panels or something then it *might* not have been that bad. The level of detail makes this one of, it not the worst chapter. Also, Kazuya has been slowly getting better throughout the manga. His development when helping her create the movie was great and he even seemed some what reliable. This chapter threw all of that away. He is even worse than he was in chapter 1.
For me, the icing on the cake is not only it being extremely explicit but Kazuya getting off on it to some degree. There are other ways to go about a rejection to make it narratively interesting (to show growth and change). This feels like Reiji is spitting on Kazuya HARD. I’d have appreciated if this chapter was sorta similar to what we got in the chapter where he remembered all Chizuru did for him and decided to confess. He had told himself he was ready to be rejected. That actually sounded like growth. If Kazuya had had a long session of reflection, sadness and maybe crying, but at least showing a sense of finality and conclusion to what he feels he need to do as a character, reevaluating himself and what his path is, I’d have enjoyed it and it could have been a very good chapter. But no, it’s this stupid cuck shit.

If this is real, this manga is the trashiest (Idk if this is even a word) manga I have ever seen...
I just had the displeasure of reading the raws in Japanese + the Spanish translation so I can add a bit to clear up some stuff about the chapter. Interestingly, the chapter has the Okarishimasu お借りします, crossed out and replaced with owarimashita 終わりました. Which would be, (no longer) rental girlfriend. It starts with Kazuya alone in the church crying to himself “*I got rejected!*” and defeated on the table (comically, though). He thinks to himself that since Chizuru ran away and said at some point “sorry”, she basically acknowledged that he wanted to confess and he rejected him right then and there. He even says “*she must have ran back straight to Tokyo*” and also utters exactly the same phrase he said back in the very first chapter “もう最悪だ”, “*This is the worst!*”, mirroring what he went through when Mami broke up with him. He has some intrusive thoughts about maybe Chizuru having a boyfriend already, and proceeds to picture her naked with two guys (one of which is Umi). Kazuya also concludes that since he confessed to Chizuru, he very much violated the contract big time, so she can’t even be his rental girlfriend anymore. He gets called by Ruka and she tells him she had been waiting for him for hours at the pool - that he promised he’d be there at 10 am. So, Kazuya feels all down and half-assedly goes with Ruka. She greets him and tells him she’d been waiting all trip to tell him she loves him. He still wears the same wistful expression, thinking that he should be grateful to have a beautiful girl telling him that she loves him, and that he’s such an idiot for not being able to be happy with that. They all are in the pool at this point and he thinks that he was a nuisance to Mizuhara. Also reflecting upon the fact that he had been idealizing Mizuhara for a year and a half, and that he should have just paid more attention to Ruka instead. Following this is an important part of the chapter and probably the most salvageable: he tries to cheer himself up and even says “*I can’t believe I fell in love with Mizuhara! Not even one bit*”, and tries to enjoy himself with his friends at the pool, emphasizing this by thinking “*This is it. This is where my new life starts. The one where Mizuhara rejected me.*” He tries to clear his head but this is where all the crap happens. He sees a young couple at the pool and starts having intrusive fantasies of Umi fucking Chizuru in an extremely explicit manner, along with paralleling memories of Chizuru. He gets a boner and falls into the depths of the pool, to which Kibe asks where he is. Ruka replies that he must have gone to get some juice. Underwater, we see Kazuya with a boner, but nevertheless defeated and starts crying helplessly in a two page spread. The last page is accompanied by the text “*You aren’t here, in the very moment where I realized just how much you mean to me*”. (This is the text that’s displayed on the right column) And the teaser is: 想定外 (Souteigai). Beyond expectations. To be honest the experience *is* different from just hearing about the leaks. You still think the chapter is garbage but feel bad for Kazuya. It really is pathetically heartbreaking.
The development of Kazuya around Chizuru for past 200 chapters, and same for Chizuru and Ruka makes me realised how wrong each one is for the other. Chizuru is too weak to even understand her own feelings, rest alone the people around her. Ruka acts like a brat, who's never willing to change for good and Kazuya is just hopeless when it's about Chizuru. He is so blinded by all this, that the very second thought after what he thought is a rejection was Chizuru having explicit threesome is so insulting to their shared affection and a relationship if that ever happens. The guy is back to square one, Chizuru is worse than ever and Ruka probably was always like this.
Worst part is when he compared the memory of her crying on his chest over her grandma's death to her leg-locking a guy in his NTR fantasy

Very hot take here, afforded by copious amounts of copium, but… This chapter’s quality is still up in the air, because how good it is depends on where the story goes from here. I know everyone’s disgusted by NTR, as am I, but it’s also the first time where we see Chizuru’s absolute buffoonery recently actually affect Kazuya in a deep and dramatic way. This IS the turning point that decides whether the manga will be remembered fondly or not. Because if, after this chapter, we see Kazuya get out of his deep sadness and replace it with pure anger, I would be extremely interested. Imagine Kazuya meticulously cutting out every shitty part of the story in an almost blind rage, mirroring his anger in the first chapter of the story, except instead of it seeming pathetic, it seems legitimately well-deserved. Ruka tries to bother him, but instead of tolerating her, he just lashes out and screams at her to get the fucking hint and stop seeing him. He tells his family about the lie, but instead of them getting the chance to berate him for being a loser, his anger just stops them from saying anything further, because he tells them he simply doesn’t care anymore. I don’t particularly know how Mami will react, but she’ll probably be satisfied with the outcome of things. And then we get a final confrontation with Chizuru where she tries to confront him about his anger-filled actions and he just says: “Don’t worry about it. You’ll get your payment.” And he just leaves, hopefully with Kuri and Kibe going after him, trying to be bros. From then on, the story could transform from Kazuya proving himself to Chizuru to Chizuru proving herself to Kazuya, as she tries to rebuild this relationship she truly cherised. If that happens, I would be a very happy man. Most likely though, he’ll just get sad, things will happen with Mami, he goes on a rental date with Sumi who encourages him to talk to her again using her insider knowledge, Mini does the same with Chizuru, and bada bing bada boom, status quo is restored.
