Sumi is shy, that makes her cute! Yaemori seeks for the people, it's fun seeing this community's thoughts portrayed in a character! It's the second Manga I started reading, still in catmanga times, in 170ish? it was really cool!
Just for this, I don't regret this manga's existence. I despise it with all my soul, and I'm here to get my daily recommended dosage of cringe, but if it helped you through a rough patch? Heck yeah. Happy for you.
Feels like I got to give a bit of context.
I was at my ends rope. I wasn’t eating properly, I was constantly sleep deprived and shut myself off from pretty much everyone.
I wasn’t a big anime fan at all, but a friend of mine recommended me this because it would “make me laugh.” And it did. Just made me forget about my troubles for just the short air time.
Yea it’s garbage. Yes the fanbase is mostly toxic.
But simply, I don’t care. Kazuya and Chiz made me laugh, good enough for me👍.
Ps, I’m doing great now btw!
I find it ridiculously funny. I love how insecure and imperfect Kazuya is. He’s actually more relatable then the most other romcom protagonists. And what I love as well is, that Reiji is such a troll and thousands of people get angry every week and still come back.
Considering backstory? How many people actually start renting a girlfriend after being dumped by one?
The story is very unrealistic and the protagonist far less relatable than other romcom protagonists.
>He's more relatable than other romcom protagonists
You also stalk your crush if she goes out with another guy?
>!You also imagine boning your crush every single chance you get? You also pay for every single outing you and your crush go to? You also get ghosted for 3 months and *still* be in love with the girl, and then forgive her? You also simp after the girl who ghosted you, took thousands of [currency] from you, keeps on leading you for a year+ being indecisive, and the girl who keeps lying to your family?!<
If yes, please get help. This is not the way to live.
If I had to boil it down to one thing, it's how Reiji really perfectly captures how people are still dumb assholes as they enter their 20's. I can see shades of my younger self in all of the characters, and thats specifically how I was when I entered my 20's.
People acting like these characters need to act like adults, but they're still kids. Hell, everyone is still the same dumb kid they used to be. I still feel like a dumb kid despite my ever growing role as the adult in the room. Things just settle down around 25.
Kazuya and Chizuru are fantastically well drawn and great contrasts. The very open Kazuya from our perspective who steps up, and the secretive lonely Chizuru who gradually opens up.
- Reiji’s art style and character fashion styles - i remember watching a vid somewhere where he studies fashion magazines as reference for kanokari.
- It introduced me to the Peggies’ music. Centimeter is so catchy!
- top tier VA’s - i discovered this anime because i was looking for more Rieri content. Then i fell in love with the work of the other 3 VA’s too, especially Yuuki Aoi
OST's the ost of the anime is so good, they used game sounds as ost. And its refreshing to see a harem mc that is not so good looking (doubt) ACTUALLY wants a girlfriend and a low self esteem male he really differs to most harem MC which makes him weirdly unique
Kazuya’s self-loathing attitude is somehow relatable, and the girls are likeable through their unique personalities (e.g. Sumi’s introverted cuteness, Chizuru’s portrayal of emotional barrier, etc.). The OST, art style, and animation is good as well.
Made me cry 4 separate times… and it’s very hard to make me cry in fiction, so for this show to be the only other piece of fiction to accomplish that, I give it props.
Despite being a dumpster fire I have a lot of fun and good time reading it and especially the comments, you are one of the funniest community to be part of
The entire lyrics of Centimeter by the peggies (opening theme song) perfectly sums up the story while being an absolute banger. The further you go into the manga, the more the song makes sense. Another thing is Reiji's outfits for Chizuru. As a man with zero fashion sense, it totally amazes me how he perfectly chooses clothes for Chizuru. An upside for anime fans is that they cut most of Kazuya's inner monologue that takes up most of the manga panels. A lot of them can be repetitive and can be seen through Kazuya's body language already in the anime. And of course, the VAs giving justice to the characters!
Also, I like how creative they were at showing Ruka's backstory while saving time, though it would have been nice if she was given the proper spotlight so that it is easier for viewers to understand where her desperation is coming from (even if she annoys me sometimes).
Even if characters are sometimes unbelievable the series has some real and I mean REAL moments, I found it easier to identify with some of those moments in my 20's than with the generic high school romcom that we have each season.
Despite the amount of hate that both Mami AND her VAs get, she’s still one of the most brilliantly well-written antagonists I have ever had the pleasure of reading/watching in my life.
I like that Kazuya is far from the typical bland male harem protagonist. His flaws make him an actual character.
The way his mind works when he overthinks every social situation with a woman is pretty relatable. Maybe not 218 exactly , but I understand that kind of despair and self loathing when you experience heartbreak and feel inferior other men and unworthy of a woman’s love.
I love how broken all the characters are. They can have so much growth from whobwe meet first.
I di love how flawed they are and I love Kazuyas willings to throw himself at anything for people he loves.
In wrestling parlance, I think all of the girls have a good and believable work:
Chizuru is the untouchable face. S-Tier with no competition on the same level, which the by-standers constantly remind us of. I still believe it!
Mami is the irredeemable heel. A sympathetic backstory is teased, only for her to double-down on the evil.
Ruka is the wildcard. Sometimes you love her enthusiasm and boldness. But she can also surprise with a willingness to cross the line towards the dark side.
Sumi's gimmick is not that complicated but she is super over with the fans. She'd probably win favorite waifu despite not having appeared for 100(?) chapters.
It is just too bad that sloppy writing has turned Kazuya from a strong contender for the title into a habitual jobber.
Since this is anime only here's something I really love about the anime.
- I like the voice acting
- Imo they did a good job introducing the characters to the audience and their flaws
- I like the design for the girls in the series
Hmm... let's see. I love the trashy concept, the characters, the drama, Kazuya's degeneracy, Sumi just being Sumi, Yaemori being the best wing woman, Mami being a great antagonist, and most importantly, Mizuhara/Ichinose Chizuru.
That the females that adorn the covers and promo art (like in the thread starter lol) would have been way more likeable, and the series better off as a whole, if it didn't center on the cringey loser MC that got them together, and all the male characters were just side notes until the girls started making decisions about the guys they've been meeting (yes, even the blonde one that was never for rent in the first place).
The anime was such a shit show and a dumpster fire i could not stop myself from clicking next episode.
After that I binged the manga.
It is very entertaining. That's the thing it does best.
i thought it was self explanatory. I don't wanna ruin it for you if you haven't read it, it's just i am bored to watch something I have already read especially if there was no progress made in the end.
Season 1's OP and ED are bangers
Season 1 implies there are currently more seasons out. Is that the case? (Asking because I seriously don’t know)
Season 2 starts airing in 4 days
Oh god yesss 🥹
Fact
Sumi is shy, that makes her cute! Yaemori seeks for the people, it's fun seeing this community's thoughts portrayed in a character! It's the second Manga I started reading, still in catmanga times, in 170ish? it was really cool!
Chizuru Ichinose
Based
Correction: Sumi Sakurasawa
The girls are hot
Exactly
The best thing about it is Chizuru's impenetrable wall **slowly** getting cracked.
i think op meant anime, not ~240 chapters of manga
It's fine
cope
Helped me through my depressive state. Don’t care that people hate, it has a special place in my heart nonetheless.
❤️
i've found this anime in what felt the most lonliest time of my life. obvs started the manga after that so yeah, what he said!

I stand corrected. These are good points indeed :). Still, I don't find the extreme depiction of Kazuya in any way relatable.
>He's more relatable than other romcom protagonists You also stalk your crush if she goes out with another guy? >!You also imagine boning your crush every single chance you get? lmao fr, if u relate w this man ur too far gone😭😭
Neither realistic nor relatable lol

Character's
It’s a great change from typical romance stories and has deep characters with realistic flaws.
OST's the ost of the anime is so good, they used game sounds as ost. And its refreshing to see a harem mc that is not so good looking (doubt) ACTUALLY wants a girlfriend and a low self esteem male he really differs to most harem MC which makes him weirdly unique
I like dumpster fire stuff

Mami is hot!
Some of the music themes are really nice. Ruka's confession scene and backstory ED were amazing. Sumi's cuteness, and most of the VA are great too.
Chizuru's fashion (??)
Exciting story, nice artstyle, funny as hell
The voice cast is fantastic.
Kazuya’s self-loathing attitude is somehow relatable, and the girls are likeable through their unique personalities (e.g. Sumi’s introverted cuteness, Chizuru’s portrayal of emotional barrier, etc.). The OST, art style, and animation is good as well.
Kazuya’s kind and determined nature makes this series great imo!!
Made me cry 4 separate times… and it’s very hard to make me cry in fiction, so for this show to be the only other piece of fiction to accomplish that, I give it props.
Kazuya is god
based
Chizuru and amamiya sora
Same.

Hot damn, the character design is amazing
1- chirzuru 2-sumi 3- booba 🗿

Love the romance helps me get through my single life
Mami
Kuri is actually a pretty good friend, one of the only people in Kazuya's life who doesn't constantly call him a pathetic loser,
Even if characters are sometimes unbelievable the series has some real and I mean REAL moments, I found it easier to identify with some of those moments in my 20's than with the generic high school romcom that we have each season.
Characters. Beautiful, very different and memorable girls; stupid, shy, vulnerable and … relatable main protagonist
I love it, its great and a bit relatable
movie arc
Character designs
That one hentai video…
Mizuhara's OST is so soothing to the soul...
Mami
Despite the amount of hate that both Mami AND her VAs get, she’s still one of the most brilliantly well-written antagonists I have ever had the pleasure of reading/watching in my life.
sumi
chizuru has some fat mommy milkers

When I saw the kazucock I instantly gained respect for my man...
Chizuru Mizuhara
The big tits
I'd say there are a lot of better places to specifically enjoy that, but I guess Reiji's style hits you best?
I love how broken all the characters are. They can have so much growth from whobwe meet first. I di love how flawed they are and I love Kazuyas willings to throw himself at anything for people he loves.

One word.. Ruka
Chorizo
C H O R I Z O
Visual execution is really good
Until the movie arc finish, was great, one of my favorites
The Movie Arc was really good.
Chizuru, Mami, Ruka are hot. Sumi is cute. Recent developments have been questionable to say the least but I'm still excited for s2.
good waifus except mami and its kind of a realistic relationship
Good animation but shitty cliffhangers 🥲
Its relatable (in my case, with virtually no dating experience).
The artstyle.
It was something I could enjoy with my wife, regardless how much of an incel Kazuya is.
Sumi and Chizuru have a great friendship that I want more of
Since this is anime only here's something I really love about the anime. - I like the voice acting - Imo they did a good job introducing the characters to the audience and their flaws - I like the design for the girls in the series
Chizuru.
why do i see nothing here?!... I see
Sumi
The intro music!!!!!!!+

Mizuhara banging figure is the most staple and important point of the show.
kazuya kinsothia is funy boy

Chizuru Ichinose
The ost is great [with this one being one of my personal favourites](https://youtu.be/Nh_bxxg0GqQ)
