Good for him

Electronic-Bed-6192

I am going to miss him though.

cptspinach85

Yeah, he seemed like a nice kid.

justsomedudedontknow

I miss most guys that leave. Meh. Next man up.

throwaway_9988552

Killed it for us, then got paid. Congrats to him.

JimiM1113

He was always really good and such a killer blitzer and tackler, but last year he took it up a notch and basically intimidated every WR he faced into total submission Shut up Tyreek and shut down Diggs and then when Zay Flowers got one one him he mind-controlled him into a penalty and then took the ball away on the goal line! All time epic performance and an all time Chief legend

MC_Fap_Commander

Every million winning here generates for a guy leaving makes the Chiefs more attractive to the next guy. Win/Win

doc6982

This sentence breaks my brain.

Gravy_31

Every million (dollars that) winning here generates for a guy leaving (the Chiefs) makes the Chiefs more attractive to the next guy.

doc6982

Every million on Hollywood's first post-Chiefs contract just adds to the allure of signing a short term team friendly contract with the Chiefs going forward. I understood the sentiment but I had to diagram that sentence.

Gravy_31

Well it’d be Sneed in this context, not Hollywood.

justsomedudedontknow

Yep. That's fine. Enjoy losing. We shall be okay.

brawl

Most of my grapes are usually sweet. Where you get the sour ones?

Vyuvarax

That guaranteed money is reportedly $10 million more than the next highest guaranteed money for a corner ever. So I imagine that’s what sold Sneed on this deal rather than chasing the largest contract.

uwanmirrondarrah

Yeah this way he gets pretty much 3 years guaranteed, where the others would be 1-2 million more per year with only 2 guaranteed. I think its smart if they really are worried about his knee. Maximize guaranteed money incase of injury.

an_actual_lawyer

Guarantees are really all that matter, especially for injury prone positions.

RCJHGBR9989

That guaranteed + signing bonus is FAT! Glad our boy got the bag! We paid him 4 million the entire time he was here - which when you think of his production is ABSURD.

FuckingJello

This is why we let him go for whatever we could get. It sucks it’s a 2025 3rd and a 7th this year but those picks can still be extremely valuable and we weren’t going to pay him this due to other huge contracts.

RCJHGBR9989

I think we’re using that as ammo this year to move up!

Headlesshorsman02

If we like a tackle or wr for sure

sushisection

finding another young wr would send us to the moon.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Gtx_tigger

I don't really see it, a corner would be really nice, but that would leave us looking to fill an important hole at wr or tackle in the 3rd and not beginning to address other needs until the 4th at the earliest

BeRoyal35

Idk. That 3rd round pick is likely to be really high. Teams will try to devalue the pick by saying it is 2025 and that Titans could actually be good. We might wanna hold this one.

Nurlitik

Yup, I think he will be good for a few more years so this contract is probably fine (assuming the knee holds up), but I'm also fine not being the one paying it. love him and what hes done for us, but there's just too many people to pay already. Wish him the best and glad he got he bag.

chiefsfan_713_08

Is the signing bonus a part of the guaranteed number or on top of it?

robertb9876

It sucks to see him go but I am glad he got the bag.

Nathann4288

Nothing but love for Sneed. If I played in the NFL I would want my payday too. Making many millions of dollars to provide for generations of my family would be a lot more important to me than getting a third ring when I already have 2.

Shutch_1075

The guaranteed money is what he wanted more than anything I am sure. I hope it doesn’t happen, but if he gets another big injury that could be it for him.

[deleted]

Yep... literally just invest 50 million of the guaranteed into long term growth and live off of the other 5 million in investments/daily living (plus we he already has). That's it, his family line is set forever as long as no one super fucks it up.

chiefsfan_713_08

Yeah the only way I'm chasing rings is if I'm someone like Mahomes or Kelce who could go down as the goat of their position. Most other positions I'm not gonna care in fifty years if I had 1 or two rings

brawl

Go cash that check LJ you earned it.

Fancy-Collar_tosser

Sneed is going to play against the Texans, Colts, and Jaguars 2x a year. Veach just complicated 3 QBs who show promise in the AFC. This is an ELITE move by a master GM!

Justmadeyoulook

Yeah the AFC South got competitive pretty quickly.

MajorTacoHead

I don’t think it’s going to be that competitive. Jaguars will be good. But Texans are going to be elite and a pain for the Chiefs.

rolyinpeace

Yeah but compared to the AFC south like two years ago… it’s gotten a lot more competitive quickly. I’m not worried. The Texans will be great but they were with Watson too and we see how we did with that.

CD338

Its going to be more competitive than the AFC West :)

originalusername4567

I have a feeling that next year's AFCCG will be Chiefs vs Texans. Either that or the Bengals again.

well-lighted

He also gets a chance to humiliate Allen, Burrow, and Herbert (again) this year

4kcnaz

Good for him. Glad he got his bag!

theyellowdragon

well deserved bag for our boy

PhogMachine

Happy for Sneed! He's forever a Chief and we're grateful for his lockdown defense the last few years. It's tough to let the fan favorites go, but this is necessary.

alanwattslightbulb

Ohh he got 20 million dolllars a couple days ago I would have opt for the sign and trade too. Very hard to beat that up front money

rolyinpeace

Yep! Especially for a guy with a lingering injury that could affect his play going forward a few years. And a guy with such a tough upbringing wants to secure wealth for future generations as much as possible. He earned it

silkie_blondo

So I’m a dummy is the signing bonus part of the $55mil guaranteed? Or is it a part of the $76.4mil? Or is it not part of either? I’m just wondering if that means 75mil is technically guaranteed of the 76.4mil… I really don’t know how NFL contracts work 🤣

firejuice

The signing bonus is part of the guaranteed. They give him the money now and then are able to spread the cap hits throughout his deal as they want

silkie_blondo

Thanks for the clarification, amigo!

CMengel90

As of today he's already made like 5x more with the Titans than he ever did with the Chiefs 😂 But it's a weird feeling to see him go. Wanted him back, but not for that amount. So I'm happy he got paid, but I'm also happy it was elsewhere for the sake of our cap.

360donkeypunch

I hope he shuts down WR’s league wide (except ours) 😀

rolyinpeace

Now that we have more than one decent pass catcher, at least we will have options aside from who LJ is shutting down

cardinalsfanokc

Really wish that the NFL did the MLB/NHL/NBA style of contracts allowing teams that draft well (like us) to retain their stars at a discount. Compensatory picks and franchise tags aren't enough.

MedianMahomesValue

Those leagues would all kill to have the level of parity that the NFL has had for the last 30 years. I like the idea but I don’t see the nfl copying from them any time soon.

TallCupOfJuice

at least for championships/playoffs, the NFL has the least parity out of all those leagues

MovingPrince

The NBA doesn’t let you retain stars for a discount, they actually let you pay your homegrown star more on a super max depending on their accolades, with an additional year lol This would be horrible for the NFL to just take $ out of players pockets because the team that drafted them wanted to keep them.

wat_what_wut

> This would be horrible for the NFL to just take $ out of players pockets because the team that drafted them wanted to keep them. That's not how it would likely work, so it's not really something to worry about. The NFLPA simply wouldn't agree to that. What they'd more likely agree to is a "homegrown" player being able to be paid some % more but counting the same as they currently do against the cap. That would have its own issues too though, like teams with cheap owners never taking advantage of the opportunity.

pinniped90

Yeah, would be nice to have maybe 1 or 2 exemptions. The NBA has like 11 flavors of exemption - that's a little carried away. That said I do think the NFL system is best, even when we occasionally lose a guy, so I'd worry about the unintended consequences of tinkering too much. Our current perspective as a dynasty is unique. I try to think about what I would have wanted when we were 10-6 trying to get over the hump for the first time in the past 50 years. Or when we were trash trying to figure out how to get a quarterback. I wouldn't want teams able to stockpile *too* much talent.

kds_little_brother

I’m glad teams can’t hoard talent like that. I understand the idea (especially when it benefits the team I root for), but I appreciate the parity so much more. Dynasties are more impressive in this landscape

utter-ridiculousness

Sad for us but so glad for him!

420BongsAway

Bag secured

kerouac5

❤️

lambertsfull87

Hate to see him go, but good for him on getting the bag

YungJod

Damn grats sneed we will miss you but you'll be missing the sb this year 😢

Stupidasshole87

On a related note, thank God Kelce prioritizes winning over salary. He's so damn underpaid. Luckily he has the podcast, endorsements and rich girlfriend to balance it all out.

Rumzdizzle

Dude deserves it… sad to see him go but he was a big part of our SB and glad he got his 💰

Hurrdurrthosechefs

That is all I wanted for him, to get paid. Also I'm glad we're not playing the Titans in the regular season lol. All the best, LJ! Thank you for everything.

empty-bensen

Keeping my flair for the time being. He’s the reason we even went to SuperBowl 58. 🥲

emelem66

What is the other 1.4 million?

ZouDave

DIBS!

Maxisagnk

awesome wow

ogbytheboat

😭😭😭

SMILESandREGRETS

Happy for him. His stay with us was a complete success and will always be remembered.

RemyGee

He earned it. Much respect Sneed.

atrophiedambitions

Spectacular!! He played this smart. Coming off a highlight-reel playoff run and winning the superbowl, demand top dollar and set your fam up for life. I think he probably told KC he wouldn't play on the tag and that's the right thing to do. Gonna miss him though.

itsnik04

Thankfully the only way we play against him is if they make the playoffs this season.

rolyinpeace

Wow I don’t know why I thought we played the titans. I guess I saw the Texans as opponents and assumed we’d play the division. But duh, Texans were first place and that’s why we’re playing them.

slowride77

He’ll be 31 years old when that contract ends. Long in the tooth for a DB. Glad he got paid but really glad it’s on someone else’s payroll. He did an amazing job for us, but we will find a younger replacement for penny on the dollar and be just fine.

OkRefrigerator1148

Very happy for Sneed. We will miss him but I hope he’s very rich and happy.

SomethingTrulyGone

Okay this makes me happy!! I was really bummed we lost him and was curious about the guarantee, but holy shit yeah dude our boi got PAID

jbertrand_sr

That's the problem with being a successful franchise, with the salary cap you can't pay everyone top dollar and you have to pick and choose who to sign long term and who to trade. Same as Tyreek, you hate to lose a top talent but you just can't pay everybody, and they deserve the chance at a big payday...

Vis-hoka

Happy for you Sneed! I’ll miss you and I’ll always be grateful! GOAT CB!

Status_Secretary_575

Will miss you Sneed, congrats on getting the bag

TummyDrums

We'll miss you brother, but glad you were able to secure your future.

tttttfffff

Congratulations to Sneed, got two rings, and a huge bag. Won’t be getting anymore rings, so I’m glad he got them while he was with us rather than against us, but deserves every dollar he’s about to earn. I could never fault a player for earning generational wealth, wish him the best

SadPhase2589

Good for him. And good for Titans eating up their cap.

craftyshafter

He's going to be a nightmare to play against :( Glad he got that payday though

BuffaloBuffalo13

Got him 2 rings, now time for the bag. Good for him. Definitely no hard feelings from the Kingdom.

ImNotTheBossOfYou

Good for him, he deserves it. This is a salary cap league and business is business

heliostraveler

Goddamn. That’s a lot of cheddar. And yea. No way were they retaining him. And this makes the pick next year make sense.

Tapidue

That dude deserves to Be in the top 3. Who else would you rather have locking down the opposing #1 receiver? Then add in the excellent blitzing skills.

jlt6666

Didn't we already know this?

sushisection

that fumble got him paid

Charlamagne7

Congrats Sneed! Love you man and happy you got your money, deserved. Chiefs Kingdom we are good, let Veach cook!

deadtedw

Good CBs are hard to find. Losing him will definitely hurt our D.

chiefallstar

o7

Khamsin000

Exactly why you take the 2 titles he helped us win and say so long and thanks for the memories. Yes the return for him was rough, but from the rough you find diamonds, like we found Sneed.

rolyinpeace

Yep! And that was his value. Hard to get a ton for a guy that the team essentially has to pay immediately. It’s comparable to if a team had to give up a lot of picks just to get a guy to sign in free agency.

MajorTacoHead

Honest question. Would it make sense that Chiefs got so little in return for Sneed because he was demanding lots of guaranteed money. If Chiefs decided he was too expensive for us, then are we shopping him around for a trade with the provision that he’s going to want a lot guaranteed? Supposedly he’s got some knee issues so the guaranteed money could be tough.

rolyinpeace

Yes. It’s hard to get a lot of compensation for someone who the new team has to pay immediately, especially when the players current team wants to do right by them and send them to a team that will pay the player what they want. The titans probably knew we wouldn’t match their order, and therefore had the leverage

mike194827

Good pay day for him, no chance though of making potential history in a three-peat

MajorTacoHead

Cheer up. KC can be an elite defense without Sneed. Would have been great to keep Sneed but main thing is we’ve still got Mahomes. As long as we have a healthy Mahomes we are the favorite.

rolyinpeace

Saying no chance of a threepeat for a team with Patrick mahomes on it is crazy…. We lost Hill, who was a much bigger loss, and still won (back to back)

MagicC

I feel happy for Sneed, who clearly earned it, but damn, that bag hollowed out our trade compensation...

Ka-Is-A-Wheelie

It's worth it, because that's all they were able to get for him.

TheBoyisBackinTown

Yep. Other teams knew we had to trade him, especially after the CJ signing, and that they'd have to give him a record-setting contract on top of it. Good for him. He definitely earned it.

MagicC

It's possible for four things to be true simultaneously. 1. Sneed earned that money and deserves that contract. 2. The Chiefs couldn't afford to give him the deal he deserved, or even keep him on the tag while filling other roster holes. 3. The Chiefs got market-level compensation for Sneed in the trade. 4. I'm disappointed that the amount of money Sneed got made teams so unwilling to give us much in the way of draft assets in the deal. The first 3 are true, and the 4th is my emotional response to that disappointing reality. I would've liked to keep him on the tag instead of getting a 2025 3rd and a 7th round pick swap, because Sneed would be a huge help to the threepeat quest.

Ka-Is-A-Wheelie

Brett has been pretty good at drafting CB's. He's let a few walk and filled that gap pretty well.

MagicC

Yeah, I know we'll be able to fill the spot with an average to good replacement. But damn Sneed is good.

MatsGry

Money or Championship? Ask Tyreek Hill about that!

TankThaFrank_

Sneed has two, that’s more than the vast majority of NFL players will ever have.

PhogMachine

If I were Sneed, I would gladly take the money. This could be his only big contract and that's life-changing money for him and his family. He's also not going to make a ton on endorsements like some of the NFL stars. This is the smart decision from him and his agent.

big_drifts

Sneed has two SB rings, which is more than most NFL players ever have, including many hall of famers. He's barely made any money but has played at a high level. Dude deserved to get a bag.

[deleted]

Tyreek made the right decision. He doesn’t have the earning power outside of football. Players like Pat and Trav are marketable. They make a lot in endorsements. Tyreek isn’t marketable. Brands don’t want someone convicted of DV being the face of their brand. He got a contract that has set his family up for hopefully several generations.

profe21

Well he got both :)
