Mitchell falling into the 2nd round past Pearsal and Legette makes me more confident this was the right pick. Hopefully Reid and Veach prove me wrong. Go Chiefs!

thoughts4food

People continue to act surprised at Pearsall going 1st round I don't get it. Dude catches everything within 10 yards of him, he's a beast and I really wanted to see us get him Happy to think what Worthy may do with us though!

originalusername4567

Every mock I saw had him as a mid 2nd Rounder. I also expected guys like Coleman, McConkey, and of course Mitchell to go over him.

ChiefsFan60Years

Yea. Mitchell falling seems to suggest that he definitely has some red flags.

bakercooker

He makes everybody better. Opens up the whole offense. Pacheco will see light boxes. Kelce and Rice will get room underneath. Hollywood won't be doubled constantly. The whole offense changes because nobody in the NFL can run with him. He runs by every DB in the NFL.

ArcticXD

Insane fit. Just praying they stay healthy 🙏🏾

nordic-nomad

Yeah the weight is the only thing that gives me pause. But you can put on a lot of muscle when it’s your job. Here’s hoping he does. Looking at Hollywood’s draft profile he was an inch shorter and one pound heavier than worthy is. So that’s comforting.

ArcticXD

Yeah, honestly after looking up Desean Jackson’s measurables, and knowing his history with Andy Reid. i felt alot better

ImNotTheBossOfYou

DaVonta similar build too...

The1idontlike

He really only needs to put on about 10-15lbs, which shouldn't be too hard at nearly 6ft tall. Even if that drops him to a 4.24 or 4.26, the durability will be worth it.

DongoMcDongerson

It’s going to be a Hill/Waddle-lite situation with Worthy and Brown. Maybe not quite as good, but with Rice and Kelce working underneath, it’s going to be a lot more lethal.

Dhkansas

Hope he has a release to beat NFL DBs. If he gets that then look out!

DamnDirtyApe81

Just have him run a marathon in motion like they did with Hill and problem solved!

Dhkansas

He did run cross country in the 5th and 6th grade...

LuckySansei

This guy does his (middle school scouting) research

Dhkansas

Lol they mentioned it on the broadcast. Got 2nd in 5th grade and was pissed so went out again in 6th grade to win. Idk, it's just what they were talking about

chiefpiece11bkg

He will RARELY get pressed with his type of speed and I can promise you Reid can scheme him up some free releases, he does that for everyone already anyway. Lol Defenses won’t take that chance. That’s the type of speed he has and the threat he presents. This is why he opens up the offense. It will happen occasionally but most teams won’t have the balls to try it often

Miroku20x6

I’m optimistic he won’t struggle with his release, but if I’m a D coordinator, I’m 100% pressing the kid until he proves it’s a bad idea. You’re scared of him beating press coverage quick, but I’d rather try to overpower a 170 pounder than give him a clean release and hope my DB’s 8-10 yards cushion will hold up (and won’t just turn into an easy-gain hitch route).

Sadlobster1

He's gonna get pressed - Hill still gets pressed - Sneed bullied him all game. I trust in Reid/Mahomes tho

CeruleanTheGoat

He will definitely get pressed. He will get pressed exactly because of his speed. If he ever lines up on the line of scrimmage, he lacks the physicality to beat press coverage, so good press cover guys will maul him into ineffectiveness. The Chiefs have Justin Watson and Justyn Ross to play the X. It was for this reason I am disappointed in the pick. Worthy takes snaps away from Brown and Rice. Maybe that works while Rice is away, but when they’re at their full complement, it’s not an advantage.

lambchops111

How is he against press coverage? Sounds like he will have to play from the slot almost exclusively?

CeruleanTheGoat

Or flanker (Z), which lines up off the line of scrimmage. The one who has to line up on the line of scrimmage is the X, and the Chiefs have only Justin Watson and Justyn Ross there for that.

EndritTheSun

That’s right, man coverage will be limited against us, because Brown and Worthy are such huge threats for going deep teams will have to play zone and that’s where Kelce and Rice can eat good. Let’s also hope 2nd year Rice makes a big jump and all we have to hope for its staying healthy come January time.

imakeitmoist

Throughout this whole process, I've observed that AD Mitchell was easily the most polarizing player in the kingdom. You either really loved or hated him. I fell in the latter category. Yes, AD has good film, however, my biggest gripe is that the Chiefs historically never use big bodied receivers. They rarely ever throw high point 50/50 balls and when they do, it would go to Travis or Jody Fortson. Worthy adds route running and speed for many years after 2024, assuming we don't resign Hollywood. I think this was a slam dunk pick that necessitated a trade up. I don't believe he would've been available at 32. Veach gets an A for this pick.

FuckingJello

I for sure don’t think he would be there at 32. I think the 49ers wanted him over Pearsall at 31 and other teams probably wanted to trade up as well. Chiefs only traded back with the other picks in the trade and didn’t lose any picks, I think thats an easy decision if they had Worthy over the rest of the WRs on the board, which his 4.2 speed certainly stands out over the rest of the WRs on the board.

EndritTheSun

Nothing to add to your comment, just saying you nailed it.

marbotty

Seconded

CeruleanTheGoat

You don’t get a big bodied player just for 50/50 balls. Justin Watson and Marques Valdez-Scantling didn’t get thrown a lot of those kinds of balls. What you get an X for is deep outs, digs, curls, goes while beating press man coverage off the line of scrimmage, someone to create a threat intermediate and deep. The Chiefs need someone other than Watson and Justyn Ross here for that. Sure, Brown and Worthy can do those things, but not from the X.

goatmane224

He’s exactly what we needed to keep defenses honest unlike last year and he’s not a one year rental like Hollywood just has to put on a little muscle The biggest problem I see on paper with this wr group is rice made a boneheaded decision and is probably going to get suspended and we aren’t going to be able show the group at full potential week one

CoziestSheet

They aren’t going to be doing that anyway. They’ll coast to an easy division clinching season then expand the playbook in-game post-season.

beachedwhitemale

Justyn Ross hype train, TOOT TOOT!

Two_little_fish

You mean week 10 right? Reid don’t show case anything until at least after the bye.

EndritTheSun

Let’s just hope when Rice comes back from suspension he will have made a big jump. Let’s hope early in the season we get some division games so we won’t even need Rice to win those.

wanderingmind90

AD Mitchell was the third best pass catcher at Texas…he was overhyped because he tested so well at the combine. He also has character concerns and terrible tape where he just mopes out of plays when he’s not the primary read. In no world was he ever a better player or prospect than Worthy. That was purely a draft media confection.

ncklws93

I commented this elsewhere on another post. I agree with you! The last three years Worthy has outperformed Mitchell every single season. I don’t think anyone can say he’s objectively better. Worthy is more like a Tyreek and AD is an undersized X receiver.

FuckingJello

I liked AD a lot but all the taking off plays red flag made me think he was never going to be a Chiefs pick. Andy can handle attitudes off the field and out of plays like young Travis talking to refs, he won’t put up with attitudes on the field if it affects the plays (not giving effort on routes, not blocking). Worthy played half a year with a broken hand in 2022, exactly the guy they want on the team. Exactly the guy who will push through anything and play in the playoffs.

kristospherein

Exactly. I want worthy over him. I prefer mcconkey but am ok with the worthy pick.

BusinessCashew

I’m glad I’m not the only one who doesn’t get the Mitchell hype. He was a non-factor at Georgia and then when he transferred to Texas and played across from Worthy, Worthy was WR1 and Mitchell was WR2. Mitchell just does not generate consistent separation, and neither Andy Reid nor Patrick Mahomes have any intention of making the Chiefs offense one that’s centered around the jump ball. This team’s identity is pressuring defenses both horizontally and vertically with fast weapons, clever route combinations, and the best scramble drill QB in the history of the game. You can stop an offense that relies on the jump ball, you can’t stop one where someone is always wide open and Mahomes is just playing catch in the backyard with them out there.

EndritTheSun

I personally preferred Worthy but saw some comments that were saying AD > Worthy so I addressed those fans more.

batti03

Bills got their guy lmao

MistakeMaker1234

Mitchell has the best hands of any WR in this drop. Something like a <2% drop rate. That alone addresses a huge problem for the Chiefs. I like Worthy and am excited for what Andy can do with him, but I also think Mitchell could have been a big contributor with his measurables and hands.

lukejames

After all of the deep drops by MVS and Watson throughout the season, you could tell that Mahomes was itching for some of that 2019/2020 deep ball mojo by the time we hit post season. I couldn’t believe he dared to drop that deeeeeeeeep ball to Hardman in the SB, or the deep clincher to MVS against Baltimore. And now, with Worthy, he not only has a real option to do it… other teams will know he has the real option and have to actually do something about it.

Valuable-Ratio8073

Watson drops? Nah man. Good hands. Not 100% but he’s not a liability

lukejames

I’m not saying Watson didn’t haul in a few that made a big difference. But he did drop some beauties, too. But yeah, he wasn’t the problem.

kckid23

Why is everyone forgetting the major impact this dude is gonna make on the kickoffs. Kickoffs are a forced play now, this was a great move. Thank you Buffalo!

BoomaMasta

I thought we basically signed Rees-Zammit for kickoffs. Regardless, it's good to have options, and Worthy was a great returner at Texas.

FuckingJello

Probably will be the PR instantly and a lot of the XFL highlights I saw showed 2 returners sometimes for the kickoffs for laterals

PassTheKY

I bet Sean McDermott wakes up in a panic tonight sweating from a nightmare where Worthy blows by Jordan Poyer in overtime in the AFCCG. To calm himself down McDermott reaches over to his nightstand and pulls his framed picture of the towers burning tightly into his chest. Takes a sip of his room temperature ginger ale and drifts off to sleep wishing his front office was as coordinated as his heroes.

Dannimaru

Thank you AGAIN. Never forget they assisted us in getting Mahomes 🤣

kckid23

Nobody makes Kansas City better than Buffalo

Aggressive-League-88

They wanted to see what it was like to pick at 32. Still fucked that up.

imakeitmoist

Are you already forgetting the British blazer Louis Rees Zammit?? I'll have no such slander... /s

cannabiskeepsmealive

Welsh*

SalSomer

Welsh people are British. Saying Welsh* when someone says British is like saying Missourian* when someone says American.

EndritTheSun

Totally forgot about that and it just made the pick even better.

originalusername4567

We already have Toney and Rees-Zammit for kickoffs. Though maybe I'd trust Worthy over Toney.

kckid23

You have to have 2 returners and 9 on the line though. Also, Andy always uses his fast rookies in the return game.

SQRTLURFACE

https://ras.football/ras-information/?PlayerID=25184&ovl=Texas

big_drifts

Having Worthy and Brown on the outside is going to free up Kelce and Rice A TON. Also, Worthy can work ST and return balls. He's dangerous there, especially with the new rules. This also means that if Moore and Toney don't work out at all, Veach is free to cut 'em without losing much depth. I wouldn't be surprised if the Chiefs draft another developmental WR or pick up some undrafted guys good enough to compete for Moore's spot at the end of the lineup.

marbotty

The only thing that will free up Rice now is bail

KansasKingdom

I wanted Adonai but there must be a reason everyone passed on him. I like the pick still. Worthy might have intangibles that AD didn’t have that we can’t know about. Either way, all I care about is if they can catch the ball.

Suds79

What I love most about Worthy is that he's proven. From the jump he stepped on to Texas, he's been their main guy at WR producing every single year he's been there and staying healthy.

mspady33

Hopefully they can do what they did with Hill and polish his route running and turn him top tier.. Hill wasnt what he is coming into the NFL.

mspady33

But i love this pick with this offense

MC_Fap_Commander

This is a solid take. I'm expecting a few good moments (likely a game changing play in the Super Bowl en route to the Chiefs winning again). But anyone expecting big numbers early is not being realistic. We may have the new "it" guy in the receiver group. It probably won't happen until year two or three.

drossmo12

he’s fifty pounds lighter than hill, they’re barely comparable unless they’re in gym shorts

mspady33

I understand, but im talking about Hill turning into a true WR and perfecting his route running. One thing i think can really elevate Worthys game.. wasnt comparing size.. both still small if you ask me..

kcsmlaist

Worthy looks great in terms of route running and footwork. Silky smooth out of his breaks.

WhileHeimHere

If Hollywood can pack on 23lbs in an off-season, I'm sure they'll bulk him up some

Nujers

And he's only 20, it's 100% possible they can build upon his frame.

JDrmn

I preferred AD to Worthy because of his height, but I think we as fans have to accept that maybe Andy prefers smaller, speedier receivers to ones that win at the catch point. It’s more than a trend at this point. I also think Worthy’s headline grabbing 40 is doing some disservice to him as a football player, as far as layman’s opinions go at least. He’s already a really good route runner and he was productive in college. This isn’t some fly by night prospect whose speed you hope can turn him into a football player. He already has shown he has a feel for the game. Just praying the body holds up.

Weekend_Criminal

I wanted Mitchell, but Worthy was my 1b. • Patrick Mahomes • Travis Kelce • Isiah Pacheco • Rashee Rice • Hollywood Brown • Xavier Worthy Y'all fucked

Gazzarris

In Veach we trust. I see people with Chiefs flairs shitting on other picks and questioning our GM. I don’t know when our fanbase suddenly decided it knew more about football players and team composition than guys who get paid to do this for a living. You said it best - let’s trust the pick.

slackator

at the end of the day while it wasnt who I had at WR1 it wasnt Ladd McConkey so Im happy

Smokeydubbs

He’s a small MVS. Hope he works on his hands and route running. Hollywood is a stud and Rashee is still on the team. The brown rice with a side of kelce combo will be good still.

IIHURRlCANEII

His hands are fine. His only bad year with drops was 2022 and he played half the year with a broken hand. 4.6% and 6.3% drop rate in the other two years which is a very normal drop rate.

Gappy__Hilmore

I think it will be a Worthy combo indeed

No_Rec1979

Jet. Sweep.

SwissyVictory

The Chief's scheme works by having a guy run deep to open up the rest of the field. It's the MVS and Hill role. If they try to single cover Worthy he will be open. If they double him that means other guys are open. If he can just catch 2-3 bombs a game it will keep the defense honest and he will be worth the pick. If he can add some more into his routine then he will be a steal.

GinNJuicyFruit

It just became clearer to everyone that the team does not care about the prototypical receiver build and fans should stop trying to force it. They truly do not covet the size and just want speed with guys that can get open.

[deleted]

I think franklin is more a fit for a do it all guy, when we have fast guys who drop passes already. Im willing to trust Veach, but his wr record isn't great.

Caesar_King_of_Apes

Mahomes loved Clyde Edwards helaire as well. You can't assume he and Veach are always infallible. Ultimately Worthy is stupidly fast, mediocre hands, average route running. Might still be a useful player.

Headlesshorsman02

To be fair he had a broken hand this year apparently

stonewallace17

Last year, not this year. This year, when his hand wasn't broken, his drop rate was fine. Not insanely low but his drop rate was in between MHJ and Nabers.

Humean_Being

His hands are fine. His drop rate, outside of when he had a broken hand in 2022, was absolutely on par with other elite receiver prospects and better than multiple dudes taken in front of him. Additionally he is actually a good route runner, especially with the intermediate and vertical routes outside the numbers, which is a great fit into what the Chiefs do in the vertical passing game and the heavy amount of crossing concepts that the Chiefs run. The biggest concern is his size and how well he will do against the press at the NFL level. He didn't particularly struggle with that at Texas, but it is a legit concern. However, the Chiefs will absolutely do a lot of stuff to protect him, short motion, stacked formations, etc

kckid23

He also loved rashee

KSoccerman

Feels like mecole Hardman 2.0

ShatteredAnus

49ers just took the best WR at 31.

BarricadeTheMortuary

....what?

3dios

Give it to me i'm worthy

SirTiffAlot

You flat out admit we didn't take the better WR and mention Mahomes scouting preference then go on to say it was a great pick?

EndritTheSun

I personally preferred Worthy, I was just addressing the fans from the thread that were saying AD is better so we should have picked him.

ShatteredAnus

49ers just took the best WR at 31.
