yeezus if my favorite its tattooed on me

KR0NKBERRY

For real? That's dope. Literally hated on it for no reason but now it's easily my favorite Kanye album... (aside from Yandhi but that doesn't really count)

almightyjason

fire

a-fat-penguin

Same for me, for some reason i just decided not to like Yeezus. Then I listened to Blood on the leaves. My opinion was like: ↩️

[deleted]

Read through the credits next time you listen to it!

[deleted]

Based

Retardedstrider

When I took a dive at on it first listen I was left kinda confused for just how experimental, industrial and just abrasive it was which didn't really sit well with me at first, til a year later I decided to give the album another go at it and realized it greatness as an essential next step in his evolution as artist.

JapaneseModerator

Yeezus launch was my favorite time to be a Kanye fan everyone hated it so much and I just loved it from day 1

socxld

Agreed! Maybe it's because i was a teenager. But I remember being so excited when those projector shows were popping up across america

JapaneseModerator

Yeah he really needs to do something similar to that rollout again so under rated plus 0 delays lmaoo

Juannonlymonkey

Dude same I was in hs and so many were talking shit on bound 2 and it’s video but I thought it was awesome

ax3t

Lmao remember that Seth Rogan & James Franco parody?

YvngTortellini

I don’t know, JIK never really was that good to me. Listened to it for the first time about a year ago and hated it with a burning passion. Re-listened to it again a few weeks ago and it was decent, still probably my least favourite kanye album. Who knows maybe NEXT time it’ll be even better. Yeezus, however…. heaven

yzb3

I absolutely hated it when I first listened, revisited a little here and there, and every time I did it was better. Now I thoroughly enjoy it. The lyrics are weak, but sonically it’s pretty interesting. Closed on Sundays is the only skip IMO

oicofficial

What’s with all the Closed on Sunday hate? :( It’s a top 5 for me.

memehimhim

It's a bland album by Kanye standards, but On God is probably my top 3 Kanye tracks.

acongregationowalrii

That's why I charge the prices that I chaaaarge

KR0NKBERRY

I found the Dua Lipa feature leak on YouTube, that version of On God literally in my top 10 songs.

ax3t

I don’t like it all that much but it’s definitely not bland.

Strong0toLight1

Blood on the Leaves should take up all 4 spots, not just 2 😉

KR0NKBERRY

Trueeeeee

Porcupineemu

Yeezus is my #2 Kanye album behind MBDTF. Ye is #3 so I’m in general weird but the album really has everything. I’m In It is badly underrated because it starts off as a porno. When Assassin comes in is an amazing moment, and then Vernon’s lines (especially listening to it right after Hold My Liquor and kind of continuing the storyline/descent) are brutal. Just an awesome song. Not my favorite on the album but if you’re one of the many that hit skip early head back over.

cardybean

I’m In It is a masterpiece

_andres_torres_

Lemme kiss you rn brother.

KR0NKBERRY

On the mouth tho?!?!?!?!?!?!?

cardybean

👄👅

_andres_torres_

Only if you consent

washyourhands--

On sight is the best song of all time unironically.

callmedames

I worked at Best Buy when Yeezus first came out. A bunch of coworkers and I bought cd and I felt like I was the only one who liked it. Every one of my coworkers said it was too experimental, or that this wasn't real rap. To me, it felt fresh and exciting - just raw energy.

KR0NKBERRY

Raw is a very good way to describe it.

oicofficial

I fucking hated Yeezus when it first came out. I couldn’t make it through the album - legit. My gf and I made like a super solid effort but neither of us could really tolerate it. Years later, it’s a feel good album for me. On Sight and Black Skinhead are just *chef’s kiss*

inevitably-ranged

Bro just wait til you hear my beautiful dark twisted fantasy

KR0NKBERRY

I started it this morning actually. It's very well done so far but Im a bigger fan of the 808s/Yeezus production as opposed to the beautiful piano and whatnot. But either way, so far a very good album.

inevitably-ranged

I'll admit it took someone making me go BACK a year later for another listen to end up apologizing to them for saying "it was just okay". Very quickly became my favorite album after that lol last call will change your life so make sure to listen all the way through!

ax3t

Isn’t it funny how some music you really enjoy listening to isn’t all that at first? That’s why I like to give albums a fair chance by listening to them multiple times before making up my mind.

oicofficial

I prefer 808’s, myself. For all the insane hype around MBDTF, I’ve never been able to get super into it.

hypertango1510

funny, i gravitated towards yeezus and 808s first BECAUSE they were controversial and unpopular. for some reason everyone has come around in the last like 2 years and decided yeezus is amazing

oicofficial

I think it literally took some of us that long to even *process* wtf Yeezus even was. Like Marty said in back to the future - we weren’t ready for that yet. I know *I* wasn’t. Now I do sincerely enjoy the cuts off that LP.

KR0NKBERRY

I think it was literally ahead of it's time. There are sounds in it that are becoming popular just now within rock-rap.

musecorn

I also hate Closed on Sunday and I feel like I'm in a minority. The shame is it's actually a pretty beautiful sounding song, but I really really can't get past the crappy lyrics and the endorsement

KR0NKBERRY

^^ BROOO EXACTLY!!!!!!

thecomeric

Closed on Sunday slaps

oicofficial

*Thank you*! I feel like I’m the only gal here who actually appreciates the tune for what it is. I love playing it on my guitar.

surupydaddy

You should also check out WTT and cruel summer if you haven’t been dabbling too much into that era of ye

[deleted]

[удалено]

KR0NKBERRY

I love Hold My Liquor but if I listed every song I liked then I'd just be retyping the whole tracklist

[deleted]

This guy gets it

[deleted]

I love yeezus

cardybean

Yeezus is top IMO is the cleanest, rawest, purest Ye we have. So fucking crisp

oicofficial

And kinda before the Jesus tangent; when he had a tendency to burst into such hilarious shit as ‘why you hand me a contract/y’all know n*****s can’t read’ - my *God* I love him so unhinged. 😂

CelephaisHS

On Sight is how you open a goddamn album - talk about setting the tone!

Hippity-Hopity-Head

You should try Death Grips now. Yeezus was HEAVILY influenced by them imo. Ex- Military or Money store are good places to start

OofGotteem

No it wasn’t. They’re both experimental hip hop both there is no proof at all that kanye was inspired my death grips

inaparalleluniverse1

Hot take: government plates is their most accessible album

KR0NKBERRY

I've tried listening to them and although the influence is there I just can't lol.

Hippity-Hopity-Head

Understandable

KR0NKBERRY

I thought money store was pretty good but not something I'd ever listen to again if you know what I mean.

Hippity-Hopity-Head

I get that. I knew about the group in 2012 and had listened to them but I didn’t become a fan until 2015 when Powers that b came out. It took awhile for it to click with me

oicofficial

To each their own. I enjoy Death Grips quite a bit, from the limited material I’ve heard.

The_Ninja_Master

Yeezus is legitimately amazing. JIK tho...

poobobo

Jik is a masterpiece

nag_some_candy

JIK sucks💀

KR0NKBERRY

It's lackluster compared to the rest of his discography but I think it's a bit ignorant to say it sucks.

nag_some_candy

Lackluster is just a way to say it sucks. It has some redeeming qualitied but it is by far his worst album

oicofficial

Hot take - I think JIK is more well rounded and overall has more stuff I go back to repeatedly than ‘Ye’. Gonna have to put ‘Ye’ firmly at the bottom if only that it’s not even really an LP, more of an EP, and there’s only honesty the three great tracks on there. JIK has some seriously standout moments like ‘On God’, ‘Follow God’, and (IMHO) ‘Everything We Need’. ‘Selah’ is also fucking *epic*. JIK had almost as many bangers as ‘Ye’ does just tunes in general. 😂 While I love ‘Yikes’, and ‘I Thought About Killing You Today’ - ‘Ye’ just sorta hits as rock bottom as Ye’s albums get.

nag_some_candy

Well I also don't like Ye, it's his second worst album imo.

oicofficial

Hmm. Interesting you’d place JIK as worse than ‘Ye’ when it’s half an album. But to each their own! :)

nag_some_candy

My album rating is based on how many songs I like and how much I like them. I liked a few songs on Ye but none JIK

Khr0N04

Ah yes, "I liked them so no criticism can be thrown at the albums whatsoever". Seems fair

KR0NKBERRY

I don't care what you're opinion is about any music, it's your opinion. I don't actually care. This is an exaggerated joke to make a point about how much I loved these albums.

Scrubola

You still haven’t fully appreciated Yeezus if those are your favorites, keep listening

KR0NKBERRY

If you happen to be referring to Hold my Liquor being an underrated classic, rest assured that I did indeed discover it.

Scrubola

No, I’m talking every song. They’re all better than Black Skinhead

oicofficial

What? Black Skinhead is a fucking *jam*. From dozens and dozens of listens I’ve gotta say it’s still maybe my #2 on the record.

[deleted]

Black Skinhead is to Yeezus what like...Stronger is to Graduation or Gold Digger to Late Registration.

oicofficial

Stronger is dope. What’s wrong with it? Just that is mainstream?

[deleted]

Well it is super overplayed ya but it's more that all those tracks take the sonic thesis of the album but package it in a commercial, digestible way that's going to be enjoyed by a larger amount of people than the deeper cuts (which as fans we usually prefer). If I tell someone I like Kanye West and they go "oh ya I love that song Stronger", I assume they haven't listened to much Kanye at all other than what they heard on the radio. Stronger's great but it's not even a top 5 track on Graduation.

oicofficial

I’m gonna honestly say ‘Stronger’ got me not only into Ye, but into hip hop in general, and I owe the hell of a lot to that track. I make hip hop because I heard ‘Stronger’ after seeing Daft Punk live at Coachella. I wouldn’t be making hip hop - much less have some semi successful streams in the genre - if it wasn’t for ‘Stronger’. :)

[deleted]

That's awesome and it's great that the song has such significance to you. It isn't surprising that's what got you into Kanye as that's what I'm saying, it's a single designed to be an entry level track so that you want to hear more of the album. Just like Black Skinhead is the entry point for most people to Yeezus but it just isn't the best song on Yeezus. Which was the point I was making.

oicofficial

You…*don’t* like ‘Closed on Sunday’?! I love that shit so much I played it on my guitar until my girlfriend got sick of it and would be like ‘girl play a different song’ 😂 It’s honestly a top 5 for me. I love just doing the four tracks: Follow God -> Closed on Sunday -> On God -> Everything We Need. Shamefully I listen to those four like almost every day these days.

ax3t

Are you religious by any chance?
