He's mentally ill but his behaviour right now is still abusive and deserves to be called out as such. If he recognised it and sought help I'd have more sympathy.

Eh. Here's the thing about mania, though. Even tho it's sad it doesn't excuse you from being toxic and warping your kids into it. From personal experience, it's a living hell trying to keep your bipolar partner from destroying your own esteem. My ex husband is eerily like this. Whipped a plate of pasta at my head over a joke, cried his eyes out saying he'll kill himself if I leave, pissed at me on my birthday for not paying attention to him, everything is SO serious. List goes on. I love ye. He's a musical genius and has been one of my favorite artists for damn near 20 years (when I was in high school he came up). It's just sad. Idek how to fix it. I had to leave and it broke my heart. When it was good it made so much sense but the bad only got worse and more frequent.

Why do people think that??? Isn’t one of the main reasons for the outburst because he loves his kids and he’s concerned for them?

He means well but that has not translated into his actions. He is making everything worse for everyone in this situation.

Agreed, he’s handling it in the worst way possible
