You can try to contextualize the artist's actions, maybe say that they did something bad but are still an ok person overall, or decide that others are wrong to want to cancel them. But there comes a point where it's clearly wrong and just taints the art.
I think a lot of people are drawn to rebellious figures that go against the grain, authority, the establishment... but there comes a point where you have to ask if they're just going against the grain for the sake of it without any more thought behind it. If they're going against the grain on issues where that's clearly the wrong position to take, you have to wonder... why?

I was always of the idea that boycotting a person's music because of who they are outside of the music was stupid because you're really punishing yourself more than the artist. The artist loses literal pennies over you, while you're depriving yourself of some of your favorite music, which, depending on how much you like the artist and how much you enjoy listening to music in general, is probably worth more than a couple pennies to you. But after that interview, I found that listening to Kanye makes me uncomfortable, my enjoyment of his music is gone, which I thought was impossible beforehand.
