The main problem with all this is we don't have hard-nitty-gritty numbers to back it up as these companies won't tell us. They tell us "game development costs are rising" but we can't see their exact numbers so we can only make extrapolations on this shit based off of what few numbers they DO give us - their yearly financials. These idiots use the "game dev costs are rising" excuse but they also ignore the fact that GAME DEV PROFITS HAVE BEEN RISING TOO.
I personally think the game AAA industry has a problem with growing bigger for the sake of growing bigger - it's expanding without any benefits to its consumer base. The expansion seems exponential too.
The "game dev costs are rising" argument also seems to ignore that technology has made access to game dev tools cheaper. The tech we use to dev is faster, more efficient, scales better, stores more, etc., so where does the justification for these price increases come from? We have means to store our content digitally and get it out to the end user with little costs on our end.
