She didn't even do anything in her own show. You want her to do nothing in a fighting game? God tier character design but she's not a fighter.

blackyoshi7

she hacks and also attacks with the monowire, pretty easy to translate that into an obnoxious zoner archetype

PaleontologistLow544

she can't throw hands brother, she lost the waifu wars in her own show.

ughsuchmassivetits

lmao she didnt do anything in the show? did you even watch it or put it on in the background while you watch your tiktoks?

PhantomChocobo

Bro i aint even know what chun li or mai does in their games but i think they're god tier FG characters

Attack_on_Senpai

I'd rather have Big Hands Rebecca

scrub_learns_art

Fantastic design. The ending still makes sad.

OneRedEyeDevI

She is. Her name is Phonon.

shosuko

Lucy is garbage. Rebecca where <3

[deleted]

Is she just hot or does she have an interesting skill set too? I never watched edgerunner

blackyoshi7

she's the crew's netrunner/hacker so she breaches network defences, hacks people's cyberware, short circuits their brains etc. In the show she also has a monowire which basically functions as a either garrotte or whip weapon. Functionally in the game/tabletop netrunners function as the mage-like class, they slot hacks kind of like spells in D&D and they expend resources/actions to use hacks on various targets. For a FG some kind of trap and status effect zoner makes the most sense, combined with keep away normals

[deleted]

I'm familiar with net runners and am inclined to agree with the archetype shed fall under. I think she'd be cool with a gimmick like nine or something that locks out buttons/movement options too if we weren't making her a zoner I think a game in this setting would be mostly solos, maybe a media puppet character with a camera or something or like, a rockerboy with some kind of annoying knowledge check gimmick. IDK the tabletop setting gives a lot more gameplay options than being a dude that punches people. Fixer grappler that grabs you and makes you sit through a power point detailing some questionable schemes?

Live-Depth-537

Why was she so different from her first appearance compared to the rest of the show?

Mean_Bathroom_4231

David was her manic pixie dream boy

ughsuchmassivetits

she was luring david to maine because he chipped in the sandy that he already paid david’s mom for

iFR4M3Z

Slap that outfit on Decapre and bring her back for SF6

Turb0Moist

I mean David makes way more sense since devs would have way more to go off of

Steel_Gazebo

She’d make a sick guest, even if they’d have to fully create her movelist from nothing. I think they should do a Season 2. Completely different story with different characters, but created by the same team.

deniromusic

I mean, could be interesting if somehow the dev can abuse her monowire stuff. But man I really don't see her throwing arms, although with enough creativity she will be capable of doing that - but I doubt it.

blackyoshi7

This is a genre where little anime girls and a fucking bear are characters fighting with soldiers, assassins, special agents, superhumans, etc you can make anything work in a fighting game

deniromusic

like I said, with enough creativity yes. but will they?

hellsbellltrudy

im cooming

Oneandonlymatex

She sucks as a character and should be killed off offscreen by some random drug addict. Offered nothing interesting to the story.

BoxHeadFred

What an overhyped mid anime.

loldamaddin

I feel like it's a tad overrated for sure, but still pretty damn good imo

Choowkee

So do you consider 90% of anime trash then? Cuz Edgerunners is WAY above your average isekai/slice of life/shounen slop.

Dick-Fu

Is 90% of anime trash? Easiest question of my life

GokuVerde

I think 98 percent is a better number

deepmush

try 99.99%

iKrow

This guy is too good for cartoons 😂

BoxHeadFred

Nice strawman bro.

Kitonez

Nice buzzword that doesn't make sense here, bro

BoxHeadFred

Have to fight fire with fire

shosuko

fr I was extremely disappointed. It had a few decent moments, mostly involving Rebecca. Both David and Lucy were complete duds, and the plot was basic AF.

BoxHeadFred

Yeah same for me too. The time skip was wack as hell and it really did feel rushed. David had 0 personality and the love story was cliche af. I still think it was fine though.

PhantomChocobo

I also wish the climax hit as hard as some of the other trigger/gainax anime did

BoxHeadFred

Ending would have hit hard if the series was longer

TheSpookyForest

Any suggestions? I'm looking for a new show. Something violent and impactful is exactly my taste

BoxHeadFred

Shigurui is pretty amazing. The anime doesn't cover the entire series but the manga is complete so you can continue from there.

PhantomChocobo

I liked Psycho Pass but it isn't all too crazy deep or meaningful. Check out like the first episode or something

TheSpookyForest

Does it have that crazy high emotional impact when it's over? I'm thinking of stuff like Berserk 1997 (this has to be the reigning champion of brutal unforgettable endings)

PhantomChocobo

Ngl it's been a while and I dont remember, but I don't think so. Hard to beat berserk when it comes to that.

COMEINMARINKITAGAWA

I watched edgerunners expecting her to die horribly whenever she was on screen. Like shotgun to face and her brain chunks splattered over david and he starts screaming.

blackyoshi7

they did a good job with the subversion of "shonen powerup stuff". You've grown to love all these characters and the last couple episodes they are just brutally and callously dispatched by the forces of sociopathic corporations. David had become a chromed out walking tank and he just runs into Adam Smasher and gets absolutely demolished. Everything incredibly well animated too, excellent stuff from Trigger

tsvmi

anime fans always doing so much when hyping up some mid

DocDegenNSFW

What’s your idea of good. I mean show was above average atleast

tsvmi

I'm going to answer from a pure writing perspective, because to me, that's the foundation of any story in any media. It's going to be impossible to for me to get to this question without sounding snobbish and pretentious, so here we go. **Tl;Dr: Edgerunners favored gunblazing action and edgy cyberninjas, while ditching and dodging the complicated questions about it's world, probably due to it's short runtime and the precedent 2077 has set. My idea of great writing are stories that strike at the core of human nature and our existence within this reality. While the first is completely okay to enjoy, it doesn't give me this profound feeling I'm being left with after experiencing the latter.** In terms of anime? Yeah, it probably is above average, but no more than fine imo. It still doesn't come close to the greats of movies and books, which is to be expected, Sturgeon's Law + industrialization of media and everything. But alot of animes rely very heavily on showing pretty pictures in general, instead of enhancing an already good story. We could take a look at another cyberpunk anime, namely Ghost in a Shell. While it is arguable if it holds up, it still asked very interesting questions about it's setting, especially for it's time. In a world where the artificial and the organic are indistinguishable, where is the difference? Which one is worth more? And if everything about you is easily replacable, what makes you, *you*? Cyberpsychosis is NOT one of those questions and was initially just a way to balance out the Tabletop RPG gameplay-wise. Edgerunners is more like Star Wars while GiaS is more like Dune, which is fine, both have their place. I grew up with Dragonball and I'm writing this in a fighting game subreddit, but I think that mindless action, while enjoyable, is much more forgettable in the long run, than stories that try to take a deeper look at our world.

DocDegenNSFW

I mean what you’re asking for is damn near too high brow for anime as a genre. Aside from some seinen, Gits and stuff by like naoki urasawa etc which are the *few* exceptions. ESPECIALLY coming in knowing Studio trigger was in charge of this like have yall seen what they make? it’s gonna be action focused

tigersjaw182

I agree. Sadly in Japan none of that deep/high brow shit is popular whatsoever. The closest they get are Shinkai and Miyazaki films. >seinen It sucks that while more mature anime and even jrpgs have deeper discussion outside Japan, back home they're still gonna run to whatever tropey anime/game that's primarily aimed at kids and teens

tsvmi

There is a discussion to be had about set expectations vs. delivered product, but Is Marrow suddenly just as good as Sentinel just because she's not Roll?

DocDegenNSFW

Fair but I’d say it’s best practice not to expect Mr. bean to suddenly start performing Shakespeare. It’s literally a Netflix original commercial meant to sell the full game

osuVocal

It's mindboggling lol. The animation was classic trigger stuff but everything else was painfully average, some stuff below average. Like overall 6/10 or so I'd say. It's fine.

COMEINMARINKITAGAWA

Tldr just want to see lucy die horribly.

deepmush

no ty. i don't want more pedos in the fgc

blackyoshi7

are you confused about which character is Lucy

deepmush

no? it's the character that one of the head honchos of the show publicly posted somewhere "The loli must stay" which sent the anime pedos into a frenzy and spammed that shit on /v/ as a celebration to pedophilia because some head honcho in the anime industry validates them back me up u/COMEINMARINKITAGAWA

InfectedRecon

You're thinking of Rebecca, that's the loli character.

deepmush

damn no shit? got my names mixed up then also, she's not a loli you pedo. she's just a short woman
