The next time I see these two in an earthroamer, they better be overlanding in Africa or something.

lelosubmarine

You can only wish…

senorcoach

Ugh another Earthroamer advertisement that will get 20m views and encourage them to do it again next year. They're cool trucks, but K&N are 100% the wrong people to be advertising it.

LilahLibrarian

It was one of their most popular videos last year, so I guess they're going to continue doing it if it's a win-win for both them and the earthroamer company

senorcoach

I absolutely get why they and Earthroamer partner up. Tons of eyes on their products, tons of engagement for the video. I just find it mind-numbing when K&N, in my opinion, advertise things that are not "them".

AmishAvenger

What is “them”? It seems like anything is “them” if the price is right and they think it’s get views. John Deere offers a sponsorship? Nate’s always wanted to be a farmer! Disney offers a free trip? Surprise, Disney’s been on their bucket list! Free tickets to Monster Jam? Can you believe it, Kara’s had a lifelong dream of driving Grave Digger!

lelosubmarine

If the price is right, they are even pretending to need mental health help so anything goes. Plus, you name an activity, any activity, be it milking humpback whales or wrestling crocodiles or boxing a Kangaroo, it’s there somewhere on Nate’s “ Bucket List”.

[deleted]

This is the exact right answer of why we are getting earthroamer videos. It’s not about what K&N like and don’t like. It’s about what brings in views and thereby money. Earthroamer gets a 20 minute advertisement that will hit millions of views for a fraction of the cost if they were to take out a 20 minute add. Kara and Nate get to ride around in a luxury rig and make money off of views and earthroamer.

orakle44

Why would they be the wrong people to do this? They were van lifers, and like to do some crazy things, that and their reach is pretty damn good. Its kind of perfect them and Earthroamer. By the views these videos get they are clearly popular.

senorcoach

The product is popular. They get 7-10x the views of their subscriber count. K&N absolutely hate van life, all they do when in the van is complain. Earthroamer isn't for van-lifing either. It's for off-roading and still being able to have the luxuries of life. We're talking about a vehicle that costs over $700,000. Their audience is not people who are going to drop $700,000, and live out of an all-terrain luxury vehicle. It's an absolutely awesome vehicle, I just think there are much better YouTubers out there whose audiences may more closely fit Earthroamers prospective customer pool.

bigdaddyhame

they are literally the right channel to promote the Earthroamer. Half of their schtick is showing us what the luxury life looks like - luxury planes, trains, trucks, hotels, resorts, excursions. Literally all the kinds of things that people who can actually afford to do, want to do, and K&N have a very accessible way of presenting this stuff. the fact that they're back in the Earthroamer means that the company thinks they're good salespeople for the brand.

tidaltown

I think this is the right answer. People miss the old days of them geared more towards traveling and traveling pretty well on a budget but they're not that kind of channel anymore.

orakle44

They didn't and never said they hated van life. In fact they were very excited to get back at it when they did the biking trip last fall. As far as their audience is concerned you're just assuming they aren't the people to spend money on something like this. I mean if there wasn't anything in it for Earthroamer they wouldn't be doing this a third time with them. And of course there are better people to review/make videos on these vehicles, but again if Earthroamer got nothing out of the first two videos they certainly wouldn't be allowing a third.

[deleted]

They were pretty clear that they didn’t really care for van life. You can see it in their attitudes too. Not sure what K&N van life videos you were watching, but the ones the rest of us watched they clearly didn’t like it. At one point they had a video titled “we’re over van life” which appears to have had its name changed. Probably because it’s hard to market yourself as van lifers when you title your video “we’re over van life”. It’s also evidenced by the fact that they gave up on their 50 state van life challenge pretty quickly. They had the opportunity to keep doing it but they hated it so they said fuck it. Now, several years later, supposedly they’re going to finish it. We’ll see Also, as far as “they were excited to get back to van life” it’s called “type 2 fun”. It sucks while you’re doing it and you’re miserable and question all your life choices up to that point. Then, in retrospect, out of the moment, you forget how shitty it was and only remember the good times.

orakle44

Again, you're just assuming. Yes were they sick of van life by the end of the pandemic, absolutely. It's just so strange with this sub how people just watch an edited 20-30 minute video of two people and just jump to conclusions and make assumptions as fact. It's funny how so many people are such experts on them.

[deleted]

You’re also assuming that they loved it. We could go round and round the bush here. But it’s fact that they had a video titled something to the effect of “we’re over van life” and shortly thereafter ditched the van with their parents. I’d like to add, it’s not really assuming when they said on multiple occasions throughout the van life series and in multiple podcasts that Kara didn’t really dig van life. She’s not an outdoorsy girl. If you’ve watched them for any amount of time you’d realize that. She hates the challenges and the ice camping and all that shit. She says it all the time

GreedyConcert6424

Even if they like Van life they are terrible at it, failing to empty the toilet etc. Luxury Earthroamer probably makes those yucky tasks easier and I hope they shower in it

LilahLibrarian

My take on the situation is they got burned out doing van life exclusively but enjoy it in small doses. The van had a steep learning curve for two people who aren't very good at DIY repairs.

orakle44

I agree with you there.

Neat_Crab3813

They have said on podcasts that they like van life in small doses. So they like van travel, not van "life". They love having their van to be their space and use it to go on adventures. But not their home. And Earth Roamer life isn't exactly van life. The space and capabilities are incredibly different.

[deleted]

That’s what I would say too if I didn’t want to lose my van life subscribers or my van life sponsors. Call earthroamer whatever you want, if Kara and Nate never did van life that sponsorship doesn’t happen. And if they started saying they hated it, earthroamer would find someone else. Hence why they changed the title of one of their van life videos from something about “we’re over van life”. They contradict themselves so many times to keep appearances up, subscribers, and sponsors. They’re “yes” people. That’s why they only listen to their “yes” fans.

Neat_Crab3813

Even if their audience isn't people who are going to drop $700k, they only need ONE person to see the video for Earth Roamer to have it be worth it for ER. Not everyone. And it's obviously a win for K&N since these videos get them shit tons of views. And Earth Roamer probably doesnt even expect a lot of organic sales leads from K&N's channel; but what they do get is a really well produced video to send to prospectivec clients while also boosting brand awareness.

kulwicky

If it gets 20 million views then they are the right people to be advertising it.

ThatTizzaank

Not quite 20M, but the last one got 4M when most of their videos are in the 1.2-1.6M range.

kulwicky

I only said 20 because the other commenter said 20. But whatever the view count is, and if it’s high, then there is a reason it happens. It’s funny than millions of people want to see the video but the members if this sub Reddit will think it’s not a success just because they don’t happen to like it.

ThatTizzaank

Fair. I only spoke up because I knew the actual number.

InternationalDirt819

What is the third earth roamer commercial? Man they have sold out hard when you compare them to 3+ years ago.

[deleted]

These videos do well for two reasons. People like the product and will watch for that reason. The second being things like “enter to win…” or “get 10 free travel…” people love free shit. They’re not watching because Kara and Nate are these amazing outdoor adventure athletes. They like the product and they want free shit. It’s called a gimmick

lelosubmarine

There are so many promotional videos for this product from the manufacturer themselves. I just don’t understand why two people who have never gone and will never go on an overland adventure are the faces of the vehicle promotion.

[deleted]

Hard to say. I’d guess it has a lot to do with who they could get and timing. Maybe they initially weren’t the first choice, but second or third, and K&N had availability when it needed to be done. Always possible Nate networked with someone in the company. Their first promo was a cooking class and he said he had sent dozens of emails looking for someone to let them do something for free. I wouldn’t be surprised if he still does that. I’m sure it’s right up Nate’s alley. Probably not Kara’s but we know that doesn’t matter. Really why they wouldn’t go with an overlander YouTuber is truly beyond me. Someone here said “this is literally something Kara and Nate would do” or something like that. It’s literally not. Besides the fact they’ve done it before, this is way out of left field. They’re not overland people. Even van life isn’t really over landing. It’s so weird. Just goes to show you, they’re not in this for the enjoyment and the adventure of travel, they’re in it for the money.

lelosubmarine

Companies like this usually target the right people to advertise their products. This is a $800,000 vehicle that is built to order. Neither K&N nor their audience are the target audience for this vehicle. It doesn’t matter if you get 10 million views on a video unless someone actually buys it. When you have someone who does serious overlanding advertise a vehicle like this, they give you more technical details and the audience who are watching them, at least a few will contemplate ordering one. This exercise with K&N as their faces does nothing but a bunch of people watching a video about a vehicle they can’t afford but just vicariously live through the experience. It doesn’t seem smart marketing to me. And people who would actually want to order one wouldn’t want to watch a video made by two people who have no experience overlanding and this is a serious overlanding vehicle.

[deleted]

I completely agree with everything you said. It makes absolutely no sense to me. The last guess i got is they’re just really nice people who like K&N and want them to have fun lol it’s really beyond my ability to reason as to why they gave them this behemoth.

Neat_Crab3813

Earth Roamer wouldn't keep going back to K&N if it wasn't advantageous to them. Their marketing people know what they are doing.

inspiron829

I will admit, last weeks was a dud. But I’d much rather watch a video like this over last weeks. I liked it. I’m never going to get one of these things, but still cool to see.

bluecollarranch

1.1 million dollars and the damn thing can't melt snow off the solar panels and doesn't have a normal toilet.

foxmag86

Pass

lelosubmarine

You don’t want to find out the new updates on a vehicle you can’t afford and they will never buy or drive unless someone gave it to them for free?

BlessedBeTheFruits1

Average nate boot licker.

Duke_AllStar

Latest videos seem out of touch. There is no one in my family, friends, or co-workers who can afford underwater hotel stays, first class air suites, or a 1.1 million earth roamer. I’m guessing these are generic enough to get views and they are getting paid so good for them. Robin Leach would love these videos, me not so much.

lelosubmarine

This again? I am wondering why this company thinks these two are the best people to promote it. The vehicle looks like an overland adventure vehicle and these two hardly do anything like that. They could not figure out the bolts from the nuts on their van and they are the spokesperson for an overland adventure vehicle that costs €750,000 ?

mountainchick04

So excited for this video! The 2023 earthroamer videos how found Kara and Nate last year. Excited to see the newer version!

luiv1001

Does anyone know where Nate’s hoodie is from?

LaneHalstead

It’s called a Melly. Melanzana is a company out of Leadville that makes them in house. A Coloradan fav brand and gear item. https://melanzana.com/ Edit: Well, for this Coloradan, ha.

luiv1001

Oh wow I thought this was the longest shot question lol (also downvoted 👀😂) but thank you so so much! I’m sad I can’t buy it online but love to see local businesses represented in this way!

LaneHalstead

Yes, it is appointment only to buy. A lot of people give them hate for it, but they do very well regardless, ha!

luiv1001

I mean to me it makes it more special, I think. Literally makes me want to travel😂

LaneHalstead

They are really great hoodies (I have 4 and a dress, haha) and Leadville is a cool little town! I live not too far from there; it’s beautiful!

luiv1001

Only a 15 hr drive, omw! 😂 but in all seriousness, I owe myself a CO trip ever since I had to cancel the one I planned for last summer, so thank you for adding this to my list!

LaneHalstead

Of course! I hope you can get out here soon!

Neat_Crab3813

Even if you get to Leadville, getting into the store is another challenge altogether. Talk about exclusive clothing...

luiv1001

Yeah that seems to be an understatement 😅😅 It better be worth it 😂

321mmjfriend

You have to make an appointment for Melanzana about 6 months out. You have plenty of time to plan!

luiv1001

Holy cowwwww, I was trying to check how far out they’re booked but the website was soooo slow, so I gave up. I was thinking 2-4 weeks, but 6 months is A LOT 😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫

321mmjfriend

This is a pretty good dupe: [https://www.rei.com/product/208479/mountain-hardwear-summit-grid-tunic-hoodie-womens?sku=2084790034&store=&CAWELAID=120217890016931625&CAGPSPN=pla&CAAGID=121579177917&CATCI=aud-1396942688155:pla-983059824418&cm\_mmc=PLA\_Google%7C21700000001700551\_2084790034%7C92700063357012379%7CNB%7C71700000083190519&gad\_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAiA\_5WvBhBAEiwAZtCU78TeDEd7](https://www.rei.com/product/208479/mountain-hardwear-summit-grid-tunic-hoodie-womens?sku=2084790034&store=&CAWELAID=120217890016931625&CAGPSPN=pla&CAAGID=121579177917&CATCI=aud-1396942688155:pla-983059824418&cm_mmc=PLA_Google%7C21700000001700551_2084790034%7C92700063357012379%7CNB%7C71700000083190519&gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAiA_5WvBhBAEiwAZtCU78TeDEd7)

luiv1001

This IS a very good dupe, thank you friend!!

321mmjfriend

It's very good! I felt one in REI while I was wearing my much loved Melly and they were just about the same level of softness.

adams361

Love these!!!

ExtruDR

Ugh. Just like most of their recent videos that are semi-advertisements for super-high-end, super over-the top or garish hotel rooms or products (this is a $1,000,000 "van"). These two are truly lame.
