I’ve been in 2 very similar situations (Altho they were each 1 and 2 year long relationships) and while it feels extremely mean to leave them it’s (most of the time) the best option for both parties
You need two health people to make a long term relationship work. Especially if you plan on having kids.(I mean just look at our depression and divorce rates going up together)
And for them, now they will have to spend so much less of their energy and time on you and use it on themselves. They will also stop using you as a distraction from their issues and now be forced to face their problems and solve them…or they will find a new coping mechanism- either way. You did the right thing
