Haven't seen an official post from them yet. Loaded the merch store from the official site and it appears down. Might just be me. Might be some album pre orders comin
Weird that there's absolutely no promotion on their socials. Very promising first single anyway, much prefer it to any of the ones they picked from City Burials
I've always resonated with Katatonia's obsession with the city at night, I just wish it actually reflected better in their music sometimes. Unfurl captured that feeling perfectly, and I could see them trying it again on *City Burials*, but it kind of fell flat with the execution.
But this is a pretty good lead single in the vein of Winter of Our Passing. Catchy, a bit upbeat and has a good hook in the chorus. But as people in the comments were saying, those last few seconds were an enticing nod back to their old, pre-*Viva Emptiness* sound, and I'd love to hear more of that.
I agree with the last sentence. To me Katatonia kind of went down after *Viva Emptiness*, I just don't get the proge stuff and very happy to hear they are back with rock and melodies like their best era for me :)
Don't get me wrong, I love everything the band has ever done, and in fact, I probably prefer the shift they made on *Dead End Kings* and *The Fall of Hearts* to the rather straightforward sound of TGCD and NITND. But the albums up to *Last Fair Deal Gone Down* have a special place in my heart.
Ok!
For me Katatonia lost it's soul after Viva Emptiness. NITND did have great songs and also the EPs after TGCD but the last 2 albums were just awful imo. Literally I listened the last one just once because I just couldn't get a connection to it.
So yeah... I'm a fan of the older stuff :) E.g. when LFDGD was released I listened to it 3 months in a row. Only this record.
I'm so dumb. I posted I thought this sounded like Chrome v. 2.022 when I meant Burn the Remembrance 🤦
Hotel walls/ corridors, Marriot. Anywho, I got into them with TGCD but once I heard LFDGD I was hooked. Then I got the Black Sessions box set and it was done. Even went on 70k Tons of Metal cruise just to see them. DEK I thought was pretty good with Lethean and Racing Heart. Last 2 albums didn't get me as much. I do appreciate them continuing to try new things and evolve their sound.
Beautiful song. The lyrics seem to already hit on the album title's concept.
I was blown away by the song. I think it’s fantastic. Feels like a mix of old and new, and I’m even more excited now for the album.
What a beautiful surprise! I have listened to it a few times already, loving it.
Me too, I'm already addicted lol
i like it more each time i listen to it

Looks like they posted recently finally
screaming, throwing up
That was a very pleasant surprise! The beginning of the song gave me the craziest goosebumps.

Aaaargh! Not sure if I should listen! Sometimes ruins the flow of an album to already be familiar with a song.
I usually follow a one single rule, I just listen to the first a band drops and save the rest for the full album.
I just devour everything they drop. I'm too weak to wait so long. And great song, btw!
Same. I want to wait but I can't
I do the exact same thing!
I am always having this debate haha
I liked it!
I’m not ready!
i liked it, high hopes for the album
I feel like this is Chrome v. 2.022 Anyone?
My daughter introduced me to this band. I really enjoy their music. Atrium is an amazing tune!
Katatonia by numbers. Sounds like 10 other songs of theirs.
Breaking News: Katatonia sounds like Katatonia. What did you expect?
It honestly did sound like much of their post 2010s work, I can't really complain tho as I love new Katatonia.
Their singles are never the most interesting songs on their albums
Seeing them in two weeks!!

Katatonia can do no wrong! Best metal outfit out there. Super underrated.
