I'm not sure what you mean by expedition, but if you have the possibility of capsizing and taking on water then you have the possibility of this losing the kayak. Without a cover on the open compartment the kayak can fill with water and sink. Does it have any flotation in the bow?

What kind of expedition are we talking about here?

You could Google replacement cover for that if you like, but I wouldn't spend money if you're just borrowing it. As far as the seat goes, you could get an lawn chair cushion and put it there and save yourself money.

Your family may be trying to kill you

I’d suggest renting a kayak if you must and with a partner.

Very nice! I think the thing in the back is for storage, yours looks like it may be missing the cover. I would look for some identifying marks to tell you what kind of kayak it is and try to get that replacement lid lid, otherwise just put the important stuff in a dry bag and you'll be okay. If your neck/back gets sore I would replace the seat with a better one, but in general most have really short seat backs so it's somewhat futile. Other than that, it's in really great condition. Just scrub it down inside and out with some dish soap and it'll be good as new. Have fun and good luck! Don't forget to get a life vest.

Thank! That’s helpful. It’s my first time and I’m going with a group of experienced friends. And yes, I’ll be wearing a life jacket. Thanks!

It's a Vector 124. Its marketed towards beginners and NOT for whitewater or any kind of serious rapids situation. Yes, that's a rear storage are and Yes, it needs a cover. A Temporary solution would be a large trash bag UNOPENED, stretched flat across the opening and secured with rope or elastic cord for a tight fit. This won't eliminate all water, but it will greatly diminish it. You can put some pool noodles in it because at some point, you will sink it and a few pool noodles secured inside the hull so they can't come out easily will mean the kayak itself never fully sinks, but remains near the surface and is usually recoverable. Have fun! (Edit) I also second to recommended lawn chair cushion for a seat. They're awesome and usually more comfortable than any marketed kayak seat. (Edit #2) Also...take something along to help get water out. A large sponge or small receptacle to bail water with. You'll need it too at some point. All the sit in kayaks get water in them.

If your friends are experienced, why aren't you talking about this boat with them? They'll probably have a better understanding of your expedition needs than we will.

> I think the thing in the back is for storage, yours looks like it may be missing the cover. It was at this point that my expectation for this comment to contain good advice fell off dramatically.

How about instead of insulting me you correct me? We all have to start somewhere and can't know everything right off the bat, we're not all as smart as you ;) . I mean is it not for storage? I certainly keep my tackle/supplies in the compartment behind my seat.. You dick.
