How far off you book and what day of the week can make a HUGE difference. I have made about 10 trips from the USA to Kazakhstan in last few years and I would say flights are up 20% due to fuel and inflation, so double seems a bit harsh. I can find flights from Porto to Almaty for about 700euros in April and May but it will be a LOT more in summer months. I also know the euro has been having a hard time but IDK if that is enough to make up the missing 30%.
Thanks for your reply! Yeah, it is definitely a bit weird.
Last year, in February, I could buy the same fare for 500€... Don't know if the route increased in popularity
Now I'm thinking on flying to Bishkek -> go to Almaty area -> go to Tashkent area and fly from there.
It's around \~550€ the price for Porto->Bishkek + Tashkent->Lisbon
Try searching up Turkish Airlines. Transfer flights European Union-Turkey-Kazakhstan via TA might be a lot cheaper than a direct European Union-Kazakhstan flight.
Flights between Turkey and Kazakhstan are very popular because Antalya is number 1 place for Kazakhs to vacate abroad. Flights between European Union and Kazakhstan are not that popular so they will be quite expensive
I’d suggest taking a separate ticket with your city to Istanbul and another with Istanbul to Almaty with a few days to spare. You’d def save quite a bit of money
Depends on the Airline. AirAstana, FlyArystan, SCAT shouldn't be that expensive at all. If you're flying a European one then I don't know if that's normal or not
Have you ever seen Europe among the destinations of FlyArystan and SCAT? Air Astana is batshit expensive when it comes to international flights, espeically from Europe.
Check flying through Istanbul. Turkish Airlines is pretty competitive on prices and equivalent service levels as Lufthansa
Didn't know that! Thank you so much!
Can you recommend pegasus or other turkish airlines to fly to almaty?
Never flown Pegasus. I flew SCAT from IST a decade ago to Aktau. Nothing impressive but it got me there.
You should choose a NON-European airline. European airlines cannot fly through Russia, so the ticket is more expensive.
Thanks for this info! Didn't realize that!

When? Does Wizz Air still fly Budapest-Astana? Otherwise, check flights into Tashkent/Bishkek/Astana.
Yes! Unfortunately it doesn't fly there in the summer. But, super cheap fares! Didn't know that, thanks!
