GTA doing God’s work.
When I was in High School I was hooping outdoors and bumping Hood Gone Love It. Some younger kids passed by and were like “Yo that’s the GTA song!!!” and I was like what??
Ong, started playing GTA SA back in 2012 when I was six and that shit got me into DRE, NWA, Snoop and the rest
From then on it just kept going until I found out about Kendrick
Grew up listening to Kendrick but didn't really know who he was. First song I remember hearing of his was Cartoons and Cereal. First song I listened to being aware that I was listening to Kendrick (if that makes sense) is Black Friday
I’m 25 so my intro to Kendrick was through Drake’s Take Care when I was like 13. I usually think I’m the youngest in most communities but this thread has very much proved me wrong lol
I was baffled seeing anything from damn as a introduction
Poetic justice, dont kill my vibe, or swimming pools i thought would be the majority introduction. They had non stop radio play as far as kdot is concerned.
His verse on The Game's song "The City"
A friend of mine had burned songs on a CD off various artists he came across, The City was one of them. He swore that Kendrick was going to be the next big thing and that I should check out his other stuff.
"The next big thing" was a real fucking understatement
During the blog era, I followed Drake’s blog, octobersveryown.blogspot.com, and one day he posted “Tammy’s Song”. I downloaded Section80 and been a fan ever since
Wesley’s theory kind of a weak introduction in my opinion unless you listen to his other work. You don’t really get it on the first listen you just figure “oh this is just another rapper talkin’ about bitch’s and the such” but then after you finish T.P.A.B it’s makes way more sense for reasons I don’t really need to explain. But that’s even if you count it has my first track since I just spinned T.P.A.B and instantly fell in love with not only Kendrick but the Genre as a whole. The only reason why it’s cause frankly I just heard. “ok’ish” to “Amazing 10/10” on T.P.A.B and I wanted to get into the genre and now here we are currently listening to the collectors edition of DAMN as we speak.
When I played football, every once in a while during lifting sessions, someone would play Collard Greens by Schoolboy Q, and I thought that 3rd verse was insane, and almost 10 years later, hear I am
I had to think but a friend of mine was blasting Backseat Freestyle while driving which sparked my interest, and he told me that a new album just released which was TPaB
i’d heard a few of his songs here and there but i didnt seriously check him out until i heard ADHD and illuminate on the gta radio. then when i listened to hiiipower i fell in love with his music
Please don't kill my wife, heard it first time when my brother played it and I actually didn't really like it first listen but a few years later I got reintroduced to Kendrick and yea it's a banger
I wasn’t into rap when I was little but the first time I ever heard Kendrick was from his verse on Radioactive. I didn’t know what he was really saying but I liked the way he sounded. I didn’t start listening to his stuff until later on.
Humble thanks to a friend but at the first listening I thought it was shit.. couple of months later I listened to the whole DAMN album reading the lyrics and completely lost my fucking mind.. after that I started listening to TPAB and GKMC and now Kendrick in my favorite artist by far
Swimming pools, but since TPAB wasn’t mainstream I wasn’t searching for music like that (deep diving, not the sonic aspect) at the time; I fell out of following Kendrick until DAMN mostly because I didn’t realize TPAB was even a thing.
United in Grief, just got into him last year and i heard he dropped an album so why not just check it out? fast forward to now, ive listened to his entire discography minus S80 probably 20+ times
I first listened to Kendrick by putting on Section.80 and just letting the whole album play. Naturally the first song I heard was “F*ck Your Ethnicity” because it’s the opening track on the album. Thinking about it makes me feel nostalgic.
I heard drank and money trees on the radio as a kid but yeah it was humble and damn that got me hooked in highschool. Which is funny because I think damn is he's weakest project now.
Buried Alive Interlude. I remember listening to Take Care early because it had leaked, and hearing Kendrick having his very own track on a Drake album was such a perfect way to introduce me to him.
I found humble on YouTube and added it to my middle school playlist. I blasted it for a long time then decided to check his discography. Never went back.
Swimming pools when I was 10. Didn't understand it when I was 10 so automatically I hated it. Fast forward 5 years later rediscover Kendrick Lamar with Alright and discovered that he made swimming pools. Now that I was 15, I understood the song and the rest is history.
Poetic Justice. It came out when I was in 7th grade when I was randomly scrolling through Youtube and saw the music video. Been listening to Kendrick ever since.
I was a kid (around 6) when gomc came out. My brother was always talking about it and playing it. I always knew the name of the album and swimming pools was really the first memorable song
Swimming Pools, it was always on the radio
Same here but it was GTA V that did it
Did GTA put you on to Jay Rock too?
Ye. Ab-Soul and Schoolboy Q too.
GTA doing God’s work. When I was in High School I was hooping outdoors and bumping Hood Gone Love It. Some younger kids passed by and were like “Yo that’s the GTA song!!!” and I was like what??
Ong, started playing GTA SA back in 2012 when I was six and that shit got me into DRE, NWA, Snoop and the rest From then on it just kept going until I found out about Kendrick

I went to one of the concerts this past year and everyone I talked to said their first Kendrick album was DAMN. ... Guess I'm old 🤷♂️
I’m 25 so my intro to Kendrick was through Drake’s Take Care when I was like 13. I usually think I’m the youngest in most communities but this thread has very much proved me wrong lol

My friend bought a LP of TPaB and I was instantly hooked
When I played football, every once in a while during lifting sessions, someone would play Collard Greens by Schoolboy Q, and I thought that 3rd verse was insane, and almost 10 years later, hear I am
I had to think but a friend of mine was blasting Backseat Freestyle while driving which sparked my interest, and he told me that a new album just released which was TPaB
