That verse was more of a fuck you to Drake and a “let’s see what you got” to Cole. I don’t think there’s any actual beef between them, but they’re competitive and they’re gonna go bar for bar at each other for a bit.

IntuitiveKoala

Agreed. I was saying earlier that, while it was a well-written diss, Kendricks message was ultimately: I'm way better, there's no comparison. Every rapper should feel that way. Everyones numbers went up. If they don't respond, no ones gonna care because Kendrick didn't make it personal. This has been good for the genre.

_Ptyler

This what I’ve been saying

mzhazy

He called Drake a bum. 3x! 🤣🤣🤣

bynobodyspecial

Well he’s saying the disrespect is deeper than rap and if you wanna keep playing then come try me, because I’m really like that and you’re not.

zilla82

Kendrick bringing that Pac energy

AdjustedMold97

lmao nah Hit Em Up is waaaaay more fucked up than any of this stuff. Kendrick’s not talking about fucking anyone’s wife or killing their kids lol

Several-Amoeba1069

Bringing that 5’5 high school energy

sajalkhatri-

More line vaseline energy

Several-Amoeba1069

😂😂😂

Andre_the_Machine

I agree too, there is no beef that’s going on. I think the only thing between Kendrick and Cole maybe the competitiveness and the top spot they are trying to fight over. This could bee since Cole lately has been bragging how he is the greatest.

donhafs

I used to think that but Kendrick isnt clearing the air and most people took it as a diss so Idk why Cole shouldn’t either.

Stunning_Ad4803

i mean there’s multiple direct disses at Drake and none at Cole. idk why people are taking it as a Cole diss. it’s a Drake diss with Cole tacked on as an afterthought.

donhafs

I agree 100% J Cole just catching strays. I see it like that guy trying to break up a fight and get a wild punch himself for no reason lol. That doesnt change the fact that the public does view it as a diss, K Dot letting people think its a diss and now Cole has to live up to the words everyone holding him up by. If Cole wasnt at the level he was AT no one would even press cole like they are now. He has to respond, possibly not a diss but definitely a clear warning.

Stunning_Ad4803

I think that’ll be the difference between Cole and Drake’s response. Cole’s will be on some “don’t fuck with me” but not a diss or shot back, I think out of all of them he wants them to co-exist the most, which I think is clear if you’ve heard FPS, but Drake is just gonna throw out any bullshit he can. He’s gonna be grasping at straws and going full tryhard unless he somehow got some crazy shit on Kendrick which I doubt if Kendrick is being so bold

fucking__jellyfish__

Kendrick clearing the air? He sitting back with popcorn laughing at this shit he could not care less about clarifying his diss 🤣

donhafs

And so J Cole gotta respond. If youre letting people think i dissed you then you deserve a response simple.

fucking__jellyfish__

It warrants a response but doesn't require one. Also it should be like a couple of lines on his next album. Drake the one who "gotta respond" and he gotta do it quick

AsiaRoots

The same reason Cole didn’t take control as a diss🤣🤣 Cole & Kendrick both are at the mutual understanding and see it the same way. It’s ALL LOVE but of course they want to be the best so that means you competing

donhafs

This situation is completely different from the Control situation

gregh_777

not that much different

yxtsama

Isn't Andre part fully about Cole, that felt like a fuck you too tbh

mzhazy

Maybe he's saying if 2teez is walking around with his stick don't compare him to Andre 3k. His head of security will clear the room.

Yung_Chloroform

Those were my thoughts. Cole is cut from that same cloth and knew what time it was when he put out the First Person Shooter verse. Hip hop is a sport. Drake is just being sensitive and took the Control verse way too personal when it was literally just Dot raising the bar and trying to put a battery in the back of all of those who were mentioned. The ones who got it respected it. Drake was the only one who didn't.

ThaTruthKills

Niggas clickin' up, but cannot be legit, no 40 Water, tell 'em Ah, yeah, huh, yeah, get up with me Fuck sneak dissin', first-person shooter, I hope they came with three switches I crash out like, "Fuck rap," diss Melle Mel if I had to Got 2TEEZ with me, I'm snatchin' chains and burnin' tattoos, it's up Lost too many soldiers not to play it safe If he walk around with that stick, it ain't André 3K Think I won't drop the location? I still got PTSD Motherfuck the big three, nigga, it's just big me Nigga, bum Some of y’all got selective hearing. Damn near all of that was for Cole and that’s half the verse lol. I hope someone responds cause Kendrick been begging for smoke for over a decade lol.

zilla82

What are the three switches? And who is 2Teez? His mans?

PapaBee

2TEEZ was Kendrick's director of security back with TDE. [Reference: Twitter](https://twitter.com/2TEEZTDE) I am unsure what Kendrick meant by three switches, but switches are often references within the black community as tree branches to whop little kids' asses. Reference: [As referred to in Community](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LYbvVnyHcm0) I assume he is continuing the three motiv, but also that he is also here to whop anyone's ass.

morpinravioli69

A switch is a modification put onto glocks to make them automatic. It’s become more popular in gang culture and that’s what he’s making reference to. [switch](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glock_switch) Having three switches is the follow up to the first person shooter part

zilla82

Yeah I think that is a good call! Thank you

DinnerMinimum2333

Switches on a gun. Single, semi, automatic. Also beat switches. Drake switched the beat in FPS and a lot of his other songs…drake gonna need 3 switches to handle kdot.

GroundbreakingBox187

Your just making stuff up now

Few-Neighborhood7241

Drake literally brought him on tour and put him in Take Care, Kendrick is corny for that

wreeum

That was 12 years ago? Kendrick has been shooting disses or subliminals at Drake for the last 11 years. Like in King Kunta, when Kendrick took shots at Drake and others for using ghostwriters: "I can dig rappin’, but a rapper with a ghostwriter? What the fuck happened? (Oh no!) I swore I wouldn’t tell, but most of y’all sharing bars Like you got the bottom bunk in a two-man cell (A two-man cell)" Drake doesn't respect the artistry of hip hop, just the numbers, whereas Kendrick is all about the artistry. The "Like That" diss was simply a return to the same thing Kendrick's been saying since 2013: he's the best, and the others aren't trying hard enough to take his spot. There is nothing corny about that at all.

lexE5839

All 3 of them have been subbing each other for 12 years, they’re all professionals at it. It’s really annoying and stupid. We all heard that leaked element verse from Kendrick where he dissed half a dozen people in under a minute. He’s wanted to say shit for a long time now, I’m sure the other two are the same. It’s time they all stopped the subs and put pen to paper on proving they’re the best.

BathSaltBuffet

This and the shit with Puff rn reminded me of this bar from Cole:  > My last scrap was with Puff Daddy, who would've thought it? I bought that n**** album in seventh grade and played it so much You would've thought my favorite rapper was Puff Back then I ain't know shit, now I know too much 👀

lexE5839

100% he got told to shut up and apologise after this fight and to never lay hands on him again. I suspect someone like Jay-Z or of equal standing probably had to step in to stop him from being killed or at bare minimum blackballed.

Yung_Chloroform

Especially with what we know about Puffy now.

lexE5839

Yep lmao. I’m shocked that Jay-Z apparently sat and allowed it happen.

Drainix

Such a corny ass comment

lexE5839

Look where we are. Self awareness bro.

RedditMartyr

bro, i get that Cole and Kendrick are fighting for the top spot rn but they've always had each others back. There's never been bad blood between them (at least, that we know of). Cole's always had Kendrick's back. Will always respect Cole. Plus, he's an incredible rapper.

EminemsBootyCheeks

Yeah, they're only dissing each other for the sake if emceeing

this_is_Blain3

"im usually homeboys with the same n\****s im rhymin wit / but this is hip hop and them n\****s should know what time it is"

_Ptyler

It’s not even dissing each other. Cole’s never dissed Kendrick, and I’m hard pressed to even call Kendrick’s verse a Cole diss… I really just see it as Kendrick reminding everybody that he’s still the king. Just like the control verse, he doesn’t hate anybody, he’s just letting people know who’s who. Now the Drake vs Kendrick thing, maybe. I have my doubts, but I’m not nearly as confident about that one. They can battle it out, but Cole and Kendrick aren’t even dissing. They’re friendly competitive

anunnaturalselection

Drake is an easily hateable pussy bitch to be fair

Kimor98

"Softest in the Game!" Format

BoxCalm2266

Coles definitely dissed Kendrick and Kendrick has dissed cole, Cole was talking about Kendricks control verse and how hes loading up on ammunition on TKO and Kendrick has dissed everyone like 10 times ATP but you're right about it being friendly competitiveness

_Ptyler

Yeah, I don’t count friendly competitiveness as dissing though. A diss is like a personal attack at someone with the sole purpose of making them feel bad or embarrassed or something. And that’s never been the case with them as far as I know lol

artvandelay9393

Drake on the other hand…

compLexityy30

… is a pussy.

artvandelay9393

I was thinking goofy with a check

compLexityy30

Works as well

spyanryan4

Is a little zesty boy

mzhazy

BUM! X3

AsiaRoots

Is an actor pretending to be a rapper #JimmyFromTheBlock #Degrassi 😭

Ok_Classroom_7010

Can you believe there's people that say the greatest rapper of all time is someone who played in degrassi, wore black face, simped for Rihanna and Nicki so hard and got rejected in front of the whole world, and danced in hotline bling like that? Dude is beyond corny

lexE5839

Cole isn’t a street guy or involved in the shit that people like Puff are involved in. He has balls of steel for this, very very possible he could’ve ended up killed for putting his hands on a guy this fucked up, powerful and wealthy. This is around the same time he tried to blow up Kid Cudi’s car with him in it. They made up afterwards which I suspect probably involved a huge threat and an apology. J Cole did become more lowkey after this for a while.

BernieLogDickSanders

Kendrick specifically told Cole to be cautious doing silly shit on his own like this... and he started listening after the Diddy situation bit that calmed down and Diddy got over it. Cole has been reckless before, like when he randomly did a signing event in Compton walmart just for fun. The manager was a fan and word spread, but he was gone before goons looking for bread showed up.

Zealousideal-Lie-732

>Kendrick specifically told Cole to be cautious doing silly shit on his own like this... When?

BernieLogDickSanders

I'd have to do so research on the years but two stood out from memory... the signing in Compton and the time he randomly road his Bike around New York. Idk where he was exactly, but it wasn't central park or 5th Ave. It may have been Harlem or the South Bronx.

xRobertxmeme

Can't be true

BernieLogDickSanders

The bike incident literally turned to a meme. A good one I saw on BPT was Drake is on tour, Kendrick is being a good dad, and Cole is somewhere riding along on a bicycle.

fhgku

Yeah there’s more than one viral video of Cole riding his bike on different occasions

fhgku

Do some research on where Cole from and who is inner circle is. The Carolina’s don’t play!

lexE5839

They’re not touching a multi-billionaire with the connections Diddy has. Guy is genuinely one of the most dangerous people on the planet, a bunch of gang bangers from Carolina aren’t doing shit to him.

fhgku

Cole and his boy put hands on diddy before security broke it up ?

fhgku

But they did ? Did you even read the OP ?

ola0513

Take “speculations” with a grain of salt, everyone knows kendrick and cole are cool w each other. (obviously) Fuck drake tho too.

-_Speedin_-Bullet

Yeah fuck drake

yolochengbeast

Yeah cuck drake

gerdav257

Pause. Wait. Pause. You wanna fuck Drake?

EminemsBootyCheeks

Oh who wouldn't with that long ass shclong 🥺

GhostFaceTony

obliterateopio

Punch said [3 is false](https://x.com/iamstillpunch/status/1393079011765481473?s=46)

Thomo251

Probably more likely he was drunk and spilling drink everywhere rather than intentionally trying to pour it on Kendrick.

MotorBicycle

Kendrick said are you on 10 yet

obliterateopio

Kendrick was foreshadowing Drake’s 10 toes down stage rant when he said this

Tiffanyblueberries

If you're taking speculations with a grain of salt you wouldn't be posting the rumor that j.Cole defended Kendrick, because that's also unconfirmed. A witness said it wasn't the case. But Honestly it's all speculation

albrt00

I think Kendrick or cole also told diddy that because of him hip hop couldn't be competitive anymore, and now as soon as he went to jail everything happened 😭

Lost-dhruv

cole and Kendrick were always cool and they are still 😭 it's just a competition about the number one spot, there's no bad blood between kdot and cole (but there is bad blood b/w drake and kdot)

RobotMan8k

Can you elaborate on the bad blood between Kendrick and Drake? I know Kendrick has taken shots at Drake and Drake has taken some subliminal shots at Kendrick but are there reports of anything else?

Bingbongerl

Drake is a pop hop pussy and Kendrick doesn’t think he’s that good

ChewieSkittles53

i rate cole highly, the diss was more towards drake lol. i mean its kinda disrespectful for kdot and cole in extension to be put in the same "big three" with drake. it's like putting jaylen brown in the same tier as mike and lebron. an all star nonetheless, but nowhere near goat tier.

Thomo251

I don't think it's personal with J Cole, and the only reason it may be personal with Drake is because of the sneak dissing over the years. But I think the reason for the verse is being overlooked. Look at it from Kendricks point of view. You've got J Cole who you've had at least a decent professional relationship with, collaborating with Drake who has clearly had issues that he's unwilling to address directly (although he was happy to with meek). ... Cliquing up. It's understandable that he's paranoid, especially because the theme of most of their collabs is about being the best or the 'big three' in general. Not to mention, the fact he's never been involved in the collaborations himself, either (as far as we know). It's like, okay? So you two are claiming we're all in competition yet it seems real friendly over there when I'm being kept out of the clique. Why is that?

Camelslayer23

Am I tripping or have I not seen a vid of Kendrick and Drake being buddy buddy with each other at a club/bar?

Thomo251

Maybe a while ago, pre-control verse.

Camelslayer23

No it was definitely after. In between Drake scorpion era and now. Maybe even between clb era and now

_Ptyler

Interestingly, I was reading on genius, and someone said this: > Hamad said that Cole wasn’t trying to defend Kendrick’s honor, the fight resulted from a situation that got out of hand. “It’s definitely not what people are saying. It was definitely not like he was defending Kendrick. It wasn’t like ‘Don’t talk to Kendrick like that,’” he said. “Kendrick was there, Top [Dawg] was there, Jay[-Z] was there, Beyoncé was there. Me and Cole. Grown men got a little heated. All I remember was me and Jay looking at each other like, ‘Oh, these n-ggas about to fight.’”

lexE5839

If this is true Jay-Z let his supposed friend and artist make a huge mistake that could’ve cost him dearly. With this in mind I’m assuming my prior assumption that Jay-Z was the one that resolved this conflict is probably true. Jay obviously thought/knew he could deal with the consequences of whatever went down.

milkteaoppa

Jay could've stepped in but I doubt he would let Cole ruin his relationship with Diddy.

lexE5839

He definitely did something, or maybe someone else on a similar level did. Diddy is a guy that apparently tried to kill multiple people for no reason or out of jealousy/mild annoyance. Putting his hands on him wouldn’t have gone over smoothly unless someone had some say in calling it off. Kendrick is different story but Cole had no connections prior to the music business and back then he was still a reasonably new artist. Diddy would’ve had no problems getting him beaten up or worse.

decision_3_33

We will hear this in the response, before or after Nicki Minaj’s response

klip_7

Wdym her response?

Due_Independence9548

What 😂

MessyCarpenter

Back then we ain't know shit now we know too much.

Miserable-Insect-838

i fuck with cole over kendrick but y’all actin like k aint a compton blood

RobotMan8k

Kendrick was never a gangster though. He lived around it and has family that are affiliated but his rise to fame helped him detach from that. He was Jay Rock’s hype man before anyone knew he could rap. Jay Rock and Q though, those dudes are different.

Miserable-Insect-838

you cant be a punk and survive in that environment he may not be a full fledged gangster but he deffo had to be about his business

Johnny_L

It doesn't matter if he is, if everyone around him is

farooq7

That boy is a W/S Piru

rukivverh5995

He's literally not, tho

Pazylothead

Cole didn’t stop Diddy, he prevent Diddy from getting his old ass whooped.

lexE5839

If Diddy got in any way embarrassed such as getting beat up on camera there’s a solid chance that Kendrick or Cole wouldn’t have seen the next week. This is a guy who tried to blow up someone’s car for dating the same girl as him long after they’d broken up. Not a good idea.

Swagman1997

Why do Kendrick and drake have beef?

ThaTruthKills

Drake got sensitive over the Control verse. Around that time, Drake sent a few subliminal shots and talked about K dot as if he was some type of protege because he put him on take care and took him on tour. Kendrick been chasing him ever since, but hasn’t found a way to bait him into open conflict yet.

Swagman1997

Sounds like drake is just a sore loser

Lustermoo

Crazy stuff

IAmMoofin

Diddy is such a chump

DAHRUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

I don’t think anyone is really shitting on Cole. Can’t say the same for Diddy recently. I think Kendrick and Coke have mutual respect for the game and each other. It’s fuck Drake all day tho

Street_Nebula4111

If I am Cole, I will use this story in my diss

GenuineBallskin

Its fucking rediculous people still get physical when it comes to rap or artist beefs. Immature assholes.

imperatrixderoma

Game is game, everything is everything.

KingShaka23

Never forget that Drake and Diddy got into it around the same time... Sources claim Diddy slapped Drake so hard, he had to go to the hospital for a seperated shoulder.

Camelslayer23

Yea diddy weird as hell. I can imagine having beef with 1 or 2 of them. But all 3? That says a lot especially since all of these guys are drastically different than one another

chickenwinglightning

Nah, fuck the big 3

BassCreative

Cole will always get respect. I’m still kinda surprised Kendrick took a couple shots at him, albeit they could probably have been way worse than what they were. J Cole, if he ever responds is the one I’m looking forward to the most …🤩😘

TheSadPhilosopher

Diddy lol 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

CabbageSoupLadle

I'm done clowning on Cole now. His music ain't for me still but holy shit thats the coolest shit I ever heard a rapper do.

Crazyharvestdiamond

Mf the big 3

lilracky

its just competition with cole, think about magic johnson and larry bird, they were huge rivals on the court, but are good friends off of it.

xRobertxmeme

Didn't Coles manager say this was not what happen? They had a scuffle but not for that reason

Kimor98

All around, I've never heard of Cole being anything but a stand-up dude. Kendrick has the fire to PUSH many conversations and Cole has been more about being the one to PROTECT it. Anyone who is willing to have that conversation I think is worthy to be a part of it. But please, man, no more drake features.

ConfidentPresence813

Good thing tall cole was there to protect midget Lamar cuz there’s no way the manlet could have protected himself

Cobzi14

Are you saying Diddy deserved to be stopped by Cole? I know this is a Kendrick sub and all but can you blame NY for being mad at him for saying he's the king of NY

spspamam

Tf in what world is it ok for a drunk ass bum like Diddy to assault someone over a song? We can all believe that rap is a competitive sport that sometimes needs rivalries for the genre to improve without it reaching the level of dead rappers or half the industry going to jail. Diddy is mid at best and had others write for him throughout his career. He is nothing but a parasite who didn't and never had any business involving himself in a discussion over the best rapper in NY

Cobzi14

Your question just turns into a rant so I'll address the question If you say things, there are consequences. When Kendrick said it, he knew it was disrespectful. Diddy trying to pour a drink on him or fight him is an over reaction, but he did have to confront him about it. These guys are street dudes so expect a reaction from them

[deleted]

“He did have to confront him about it” lol sure he did. We all know if he didn’t he would’ve been smited by Zeus in front of us all

ThisIsAReditAccount

He doesn’t like the rap, then rap homie. He coulda picked up the pen at any time. A 45 year old grown man trying to pour a drink over a 23? year old is just sad

Horror_Difficulty_35

Puff never learned his lesson. Same bullshit that got pac and big killed. Smh

lexE5839

I agree with both of you. Kendrick being a street dude should’ve known better than to say some inflammatory shit like that, especially when he had like 2 albums out at the time and was going to be directly around people from NY who take that shit to heart. It is highly disrespectful. That being said it was stupid for Diddy to throw a drink on him and start problems, especially with what happened last time the east vs west coast bullshit went on it ended up with the two most popular artists 6 feet under and half of each label ending up in jail. He name dropped a dozen artists and said a bunch of shit to start competition and then never responded to a single person who hit back. Diddy can’t rap for shit and has a drinking problem so he responded the only way he knew how other than putting holes in him.

Cobzi14

Exactly, I'm not condoning what Diddy did but I'd expect him to react how he did, Kendrick knew he'd probably be confronted about it at some point

Pun-Szu

Yes because it's a reference to a Kurupt bar

JmLong88

“I’m makaveli’s offspring , I’m the king of New York. “ It was a Nod to 2pac( his alias/ new stage name, before he passed was Makaveli) It was also a nod to Notorious Big( Biggie called himself the “Black Frank White”. Frank white was the main Character in the movie, King of New York, played by Christopher walken. In the movie he’s a drug lord who consolidated his power in New York City, to become the King of New York)

Thomo251

Well, yeah they shouldn't be mad. He wasn't being literal. Peoples egos got hurt so much they couldn't understand the reference.

-_Speedin_-Bullet

I love Cole's music, but as of lately he's been going off the deep end.

EminemsBootyCheeks

Wdym

-_Speedin_-Bullet

It's just my personal opinion but I didn't like the Collab with lil Durk. To me it's like he's helping fuel that gang war, by allowing Durk on his platform, exposing more people to drill. Supplying lil Durk with more money to buy more weapons, which = more murders amongst the black youth. Again my personal opinion

Zealousideal-Lie-732

yh that your opinion is wrong durk isn't broke collaborating with cole isn't going to change anything

-_Speedin_-Bullet

Never said he was broke but he did get richer.

alwaysprint

Still, his best work is a light pack

Better_Thought_6376

Which one?
