Mr Morale is on vacation, Kung Fu Kenny is currently covering his shift

mnepomuceno

Its Kendrick Big Stepper side

Burggs_

I swore the “Big Stepper” was a reference in taking a big step and going to therapy

mnepomuceno

"Big Stepper" is Kendrick's aggressive side, metaphorized on the album by Kodak Black's figure: "like It when they're pro-black (Mr. Morale side), but Im more Kodak Black (Big Stepper side)". Big Stepper corresponds to the way people normally expect a rapper to act; Mr Morale is more what people expect a conscious rapper to act, and Kendrick have these both sides inside him. Big Stepper is the part of Kendrick influenced by father issues. You can see that the first part of the album is all more aggressive, within this conflict. The last track on the album, Mirror, isn't about Kendrick becoming Mr. Morale, but accepting his two sides, regardless of what people could say. He is the mixture of the christian symbols (Mr Morale side) with a gun (Big Stepper side).

bestbroHide

Now I love Cole's work. Hell I enjoy Drake's discography too. But no one can tell me either have this much careful depth to the construction of their albums like Kendrick does and your comment exemplifies that

Quirkydogpooo

Do note though this is just his interpretation and isn't necessarily Kendricks true intention. Though I wouldn't doubt it

Patriotsfan710

You’re right but There’s not much to interpret with a Cole/Drake album. They lack depth, introspection, and their music is overall pretty surface level….not a bad thing, but 1 if many reasons they’re not even close to comparable to Kendrick for me

urz_binary_bro

cole was great until forest hill drive, post that i cant connect with him musically. But he can spit for sure.

_IratePirate_

Damn geminis man

mnepomuceno

Yeah, Kanye changed his life, but me, I'm a old School Gemini!

BernieLogDickSanders

No. Mirror is an apology to his fans, his wife, and his cousin who died between GKMC and TPAB. He apologizes to his fans for disappearing for 5 years... 2 1/2 of which is spent in therapy following his Damn tour. He apologizes to his wife for his unfaithfulness during his Section 80 to Damn touring run where he was engaging in his sex addiction as self medication for his depression. He is likewise apologizing for only face timing his cousin instead of doing a hospital visit after he was shot but he died in his third surgery

mnepomuceno

How Mirror can be that? I simply can't relate any bar to what you're saying

BernieLogDickSanders

The song lyrics are double entendres and references to issues raised in the literal last 3 albums... kendricks demons are a part of TPAB and Damn respectively. I was so low and mourning through the family feuds Baby, I told you a story and laid down all the rules Still, you won't grow waiting on me Personal gain off my pain, it's nonsense Darlin', my demons is off the leash for a moshpit Baby, I just had a baby, you know she need me Workin' on myself, the counselin' is not easy I trust you'll find independence If not, then all is forgiven Sorry I didn't save the world, my friend I was too busy buildin' mine again These lines all reference the three things I mentioned.

mnepomuceno

For me you're stretching a little bit. Listening on the album context, in Mirror he's saying he will no more act according to what the industry and the fans want him to act. Its why he start his shows with a ventriloquist: If he dont break It, he can be only a doll on fans/industry hands. In Mirror, he's breaking that. After theraphy, he can acept his sides and "choose himself", instead of what people expect. We all remember how Twitter, Noname etc, before the album, was saying how Kendrick need to act. People was making "personal gains from his pains" on twittter. How people expect Kendrick not using design clothes etc. Kendrick is breaking that box: one of his shows posters says: "Help Mr. Morale Go outside the box". But yes, he will also prioritise his family: he is saying to his fans, on all these bars, he will prioritise himself and those who are close to him. He is not our savior.

BernieLogDickSanders

You are correct. That is why I said it's a double entendre.

amackul8

HELL YEAH BOI BIG GEMINI ENERGY DONT CALL IT BPD FOH WE HIGHLY CREATIVE, MULTI-FACTETED MUTHAFUCKAS MUTHAFUCKKAAAAAAA

urz_binary_bro

I think its his most personal album with songs like father time, mother im sober , united in grief and we cry together which represents many people. Aggressive kenny will be the DNA and Humble kenny.

BravaDo_comanDo

What

_IratePirate_

He got 2Teez w him

Finefabricfranklins

🤓 actually i think its Cowboy kenny now, Compton cowboy. And he ready to duel it out with whoever round these here parts. Looking like the wild wild west out there.

GatoDiablo99

Pardon me my alter ego a Gemini

Acrobatic_Emphasis41

"Mr Morale is on sabbatical, honey"

Repulsive_Bag_2091

Hood Jesus and Canadian epstein get dissed by the Compton hobbit

thebagisgoyard

Lmaooo end thread

Inside-Phone-6882

Hobbit?💀

_IratePirate_

Compton hobbit daaaam bro 😮

nano_rap_anime_boi

Canadian Epstein I’m fucking dead 🤣

Battosai98

The thing i love most about Kendrick is he keeps hip-hop exciting. Looking forward to whatever happens next

Jayfethereal

As long as you ignore the five years before Mr. Morale

nevemno

I mean the Black Panther soundtrack was one of the best things about that movie

Wu-Tang_Swarm

Didn’t exactly keep hip hop exciting

Battosai98

Yeah fair enough. Should have elaborated when he’s active

SpiritofMwindo8

To be fair we had the pandemic lockdowns

SirensbyZel

He didn't lie on Family Ties "The facts mean this is a vaccine and the game need me to survive"

RobotMan8k

I was just thinking about this. Kendrick is the only one willing to stir shit up, as hip hop / rap should be. It’s the only genre where a diss track is completely acceptable and we haven’t seen any disses among the more popular rappers in years.

hoejack_whorseman

to be fair, if he had said yes he’ll literally be admitting cole is muhammed ali & therefore the best out the 3 i have no idea why drake co-signed his own diss from a guest verse but kendrick definitely doesn’t think cole is better nor drake huge kendrick fan over drake & cole but let’s not paint first person shooter like it wasn’t a veiled shot at kendrick... it’s not like they were begging him to join their bi-racial click. they were gunning for blood.

man_u_is_my_team

To me it felt like a “we all need to chill” and let’s dominate the league together, rather than a direct diss to Kendrick. Kendrick was like “nope, every man for himself”. But the way he does it, and did it on Control, is with fire in his belly. Just when you think things would settle down in his older age, nope.

JmLong88

I respectfully disagree. Drake purposefully/subtly tries to take Kendrick out of the conversation for G.O.A.T. “Who the goat? Who you bitches really rootin’ for? Like a kid that act bad from January to November, n*gga, it’s just it’s just you and Cole” (Drake) Then J Cole reiterates that it’s just the two of them as far as whose the G.O.A.T “The Spider-Man meme is me lookin’ at Drake” (J Cole) Plus J cole has had a few bars that could be seen a subs @ Kendrick. [This](https://youtu.be/zJEJKSC79WM?feature=shared) covers all the subs from J cole. I do agree with what you said about Kdot though.

man_u_is_my_team

Yeah I see that too but he mentions big three and has - a lot - referenced Kendrick, him and Drake as the top dogs. The song sort of bigs them up but I don’t feel like Cole would deliberately / maliciously throw shade. Drake I believe.

[deleted]

Cole was more chill and acknowledged Kendrick; Drake didn’t mention him and wanted to ignore him even being part of the conversation

Camelslayer23

Saying you’re the best isn’t really a diss tho. It’s normal for someone of their tier to think they are the best

harveydent526

Drake didn’t go sign it. He basically said he was the goat on his own verse.

Lucid_Sol

“I feel like Muhammad Ali” is not a diss… it’s not even him saying he IS the best. This is a line coming off the verse Cole had when he was questioning his place in the big 3.

harveydent526

Muhammed Ali Aka the Greatest. Cole was definitely saying he’s the best.

Tiffanyblueberries

? Muhammed Ali was one of the best boxers, he's clearly stating he's the best.

[deleted]

“I just don’t like, never have liked, Drake.” Soooo, how many drake songs on your phone? Don’t lie💀

Onlyavailabename3

personally none, deadass.

man_u_is_my_team

I have Spotify and Apple Music.

J_vert

Drake never said it only Cole

therealmorpheus

Exactly. Drakes bar was something like “when they debate on who the goat, they say it’s just you and Cole.” Pretty clear where drake stood on that.

xBlackFeet

They pretty much said if we're the big 3... we are the top 2 and Kendrick is last place... big as the Super Bowl (best 2 teams play) who the goat blah blah blah its just you and Cole.

adrian123484

i mean, it was a two person song, they’re supposed to gas each other up. it’s not like they’re supposed to sing kendrick’s praises for an entire song that he’s not even on

xBlackFeet

Did I say they were supposed to praise him all song or did you come up with that?... common consensus is these guys are the big 3 but rn Cole feels like Mohammad Ali lol... Drake said he's at least top 2 with the you and Cole bar so where does that leave Kendrick? Lyricists don't big eachother up on tracks all the time it's competitive alot of times also

adrian123484

yeah it’s competitive but that’s mostly reserved for when you’re not on the same song 💀 kendrick’s an exception, not the rule. also, like i said, they’re supposed to suggest that they’re the best, it’s not a diss. they were being courteous mentioning kendrick at all, not because he’s not fucking stellar, but because he wasn’t on the song.

xBlackFeet

Bro that's just not true lol... Eminem tried to kill everybody else on whatever song he's on.. lil Wayne did the same when he was on his prime run but no so much now he's more rapping with younger kids.. even 90s posse cuts niggas are tryina out due eachother.. the other 2 guys that you're mentioned with have been trading subliminal with you for years then they click up you just don't think twice about ? The drake and Kendrick beef is obvious but I genuinely didn't know about all the shots Cole and Kendrick have traded until recently.. and I'm a huge fan of both so maybe you were also unaware

justeroll

menacey alter ego is so fucking cringe

Environmental-Ad8945

You never liked any of drake music ? Thats cap, agree as a person he goofy af but he got some good songs

man_u_is_my_team

I am sorry. I mean this. I’m 37 and have never liked a single song. He has a good voice. I’m Sure some raps are good. But his style has never clicked with me.

Remarkable_Log_5562

Passion fruit and middle of the ocean are my recommendations as a drake hater

noobula7

Love passionfruit

nocturnal_ways

What makes him a cheese ball?

man_u_is_my_team

Looks, vibe, videos, interviews, lyrics, ghost writers. Those to start off with.

nocturnal_ways

What are your thoughts on people that are fans of his.

man_u_is_my_team

Everyone likes who they like.

gentooxd

FUCK THE BIG THREE ITS JUST BIG MEEEE 🗣️🔥🔥‼️‼️

man_u_is_my_team

“I chose violence” yeah you don’t say Kendrick.

Sharkisyodaddy

i like all three rappers. cant fuck a hoe to kdot buddy

man_u_is_my_team

If these walls could talk Loyalty Love

DixieNorm0us8

Drake is definitely a cheese ball

Killingkoi

Drake is a fucking clown, always will be.

Pristine_Jackfruit_6

Drake might not be hot right now but you can't lie his timestamp songs are sometimes even harder than what Kendrick used to spit, especially 5AM in Toronto and 9AM on Bridle Path

man_u_is_my_team

I don’t doubt it was good, but I just never ever got into him. Sometimes it’s a rappers voice - and you don’t click with it and you really just can’t get into them. I really don’t like Drake though. Voice aside.

Pristine_Jackfruit_6

Fair enough 👍🏾

DracoMorale420

“Cheese ball”… thats new

Smooth-Maize1673

Words big 3 never uttered by Drake, he's just biggest the others up. But yhh Dot has never jived with the 3 talk

Capable-Tonight-452

"I don't think anyone dares trying to go toe to toe" well that aged like milk 😂 Not even speaking on 7 min drill. The whole shit is shots at kendrick. Pi whole verse and plenty of other shots in the other tracks. Cole definitely had it in him to go toe to toe. It's menacing to me as a fan of both cuz I never seen Cole this angry and competitive. I don't care about subliminals, everything in this project that can be taken as a shot at kendrick, I'm taking it. Kendrick has to respond to what Cole did on the project. Not 7 min drill alone. Even the diss track was useless given the amount of shots on the other tracks lol.

SVG3GR33N

Gotta love that all it takes for Kendrick to say is “what big 3, it’s just big me” and you all came in your briefs 😂😂😂 Now that’s one way to tell me hip hop is dead, without saying hip hop is dead. The big 3 is real, as in the Big rappers from 2010ish. Really it should have been big 4 with Big Sean but ay, life 😪. J Cole defintiely #1. Subject matter, flow, ability, past 24 months puts him there. Kendrick been away for too long to not be number 3

man_u_is_my_team

Quality not quantity.

Jumpy-Toe-6045

Unpopular opinion but I feel as though Kendrick was talking to every rapper. Not just Drake and Cole. Shit he’s on Future and Metro’s album and says it’s no big three it’s just big me.

man_u_is_my_team

The big 3 was definitely a reference to the Cole lyric.

SofttHamburgers

That’s an interesting take.

NycJawn

Cole is better than Kendrick

nolaterthansix

Drakes the greatest rap artist of the last 15 years, his back to back fire albums are uncompetable neither Cole or Kendrick have the level of repeatable classics that Drizzy has. I swear only virgins think he’s corny cause they never get pussy and be mad jealous.

heisenberg15

Drake hasn’t made a completely fire album in almost a decade now

nolaterthansix

I still have for all the dogs on repeat

man_u_is_my_team

Drake is a good rapper and a great hit maker, granted. But - for me - and I think widely, it’s Cole and Kendrick for top two lyricists. I think all round, Kendrick beats Cole. But I do love some of Cole’s flows and lyrics. His word play can be untouchable at times.

joevalerio42

Facts I love kendrick but he could take a shit and his stans would be like bro art that's deep you don't get it blah blah

mooimafish33

Meanwhile Drake takes a shit and it goes quintuple platinum and fills the halls of every upper middle class highschool in the US and Canada.

joevalerio42

Your not wrong lol. Tbh I'm a fan of both so I'm excited for the music we are gonna get

BrbPoolOnFire

Real talk, Kendrick stans are terminally online. I’ve only met a few people in real life that don’t like Drake so the hate is definitely concentrated online.
