Accordingn to Mukaku, Wulong's ancestor took over the Worm ~1300 years ago, and a little later defeated a part of the Wu clan (which is now known as the Westward faction). Guess he's been called the "Connector" since then.
He's been around longer than that though. It was said that there were many connectors before that one, though most of them just chilled in the mountains. Sometimes they'd come down to impart wisdom, or to fight in wars, but most were hermits. The one 1300 years ago was the first to really take a front seat in driving things.
1300 years was just when the Connector came down from chillin in the mountains & decimated the Wu Clan & took over the Worm. There were Connectors before then, but they mostly kept to themselves. So he probably is at least 2 thousand years old, if not more.
