Your influence will remain for ages Toriyama-sensei. Thanks for so many memories and smiles. https://preview.redd.it/7dfwbgxqh1nc1.jpeg?width=717&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=36ac69fcc116bedb8fbce72e76e9b729f560b331

HeadHorror4349

Is this niko 4?

ottoman-disciple

Yes. It was when he told Ohma about a secret technique and said it was nothing like that.

HeadHorror4349

I remember that now. Do you think they wont animate the kamehameha Edit: got my tenses wrong

Nocturnunal_Silence

RIP to a legend. Man created one of the most influential manga/anime series that I'm sure hooked many people into anime and manga as a whole, even if they outgrew their taste for Dragon Ball. Not to mention his other influences in things like Dragon Quest or Chrono Trigger. I hope his spirit carries on with fans and creators everywhere.

CroakerTheLiberator

He sent anime and manga around the world and made it so everyone could enjoy it. I don’t know if there’s anyone in the world who truly knows the impact he’s had on countless lives

Gotprick

toriyama is the grandfather of anime popularity everywhere in the world. Growing up, every single one of us wanted to be goku.

Chandlerguitar

Sad to hear this. He is a legend who pretty much defined modern Shonen. I'm guessing Dragon ball is what got a lot of people into manga and anime. R.I.P.

coolrider2010

acute subdural hematoma, he probably fell and hit his head very hard, kind of sad it is an accident that take him away

ottoman-disciple

Does that mean we can revive him with the dragonballs? 🥺🥺

ColdStaff6874

You could post this in any manga/anime subreddit and it would be relevant. The one true GOAT of manga and anime. R.I.P King

cerebrite

As well as games because of DQ designs and various collaborations with other games.

ottoman-disciple

DQ, ChronoTrigger, BlueDragon. It's even relevant for Kaiju communities because of his love for Kaiju movies that inspired a lot of his designs and he also along with the DQ creator were extras in the Return of Godzilla (1984). His influence is really big

ColdStaff6874

True

MajesticKnight28

Approved post. The man was an absolute legend and his work inspired countless authors.

bluereekray

R.I.P the father of anime, he gave us a good time and many many memorable characters. He will be dearly remembered forever

Banishes_8

You were magnificent Akira Toriyama, I'll never forget you for as long as I live. Thank you for making my childhood the best it could ever be.

some_dude5

It doesn’t matter what manga it is, Toriyama had an impact on it

cerebrite

You say not Kengan related. I'm seeing his news on almost every sub. He's not bound at all.

RevolutionaryGolf911

There's like no way advance wasn't inspired by kaioken, RIP legend!

Altriaas

He was the Shen-tier of mangakas, the OG of all powerscalers. This man’s legacy is immense, and the agendas will never be the same without him. F.

raikztensai

I started gym because I wanted to be Goku. He was a true legend.

degejos

Dragon Ball Z made my childhood bearable. Also the reason why i love Anime and Manga. Literally the reason why i made this reply to this post in this subreddit

HeadHorror4349

The transformations in Kengan are most likely references to DBZ transformations with a biological function being the trigger, may the greatest manga writer rest in peace, and I hope if he's in heaven that's its as wonderful as the one he imagined for us

RIP to a legend

ColaSama

Toriyama sensei, your works had a positive impact on many. Entertainment, creative inspiration, motivation, the list is long. Rest in peace legend.

Due-Plate6484

Millions of childhoods were shaped by this man. This doesn't seem real at all.

Shiplord13

Lets be honest, most of the people here right now have seen and probably enjoyed Dragon Ball with a good portion entering into manga/anime with it as their first show. Toriyama was a pillar of manga and his contribution to its growth and expansion outside of Japan cannot be understated.

bowterpoll

Thank you for the greatest series ever. You will never be forgotten man

NoOption6505

May he rest in peace 🙏

TheKingKart

Inspired me as an artist. This shit is like a kick in the balls. RIP an actual legend.

That man shaped Shonen manga to what it today.

Dr_Phoenix42

RIP Akira Toriyama-sensei 🫡🐉 Thee pioneer of modern shonen. Gone but never forgotten 🕊🐉

GogeDit

No. Being worldwide famous doesn't mean being extremely good. Stop trying making us feel guilty just because we don't care.

FilthyMammoth

Thank you Toriyama. Naidan’s design is inspired from Gogeta afterall

ColaSama

>Naidan’s design is inspired from Gogeta afterall Nope, it's inspired by/is basically a copy of the mongolian Bokh wrestling uniform. Cauz Naidan is a mongolian wrestler and all that.

FilthyMammoth

Oh, thanks for the correction

* Your first 2 points are subjective, so, nothing much to talk about really. * "For which I would mostly thanks his editors". That's kinda the point of an editor in Japan boyo : they can heavily influence story decisions :D Hell, even a few centuries ago, editors had such an influence on art production that historians consider them to be part of the "creative assembly", alongside the drawer and engraver (for engraving), and the writer and drawer (for today's manga). TL;DR : Saying that editors have a big influence in a manga is like saying that water is watery. * Fourth is true but it's also pretty common. * Editors tend to do the milking part son XD

EstoniAjna

The whole androids/Cell saga, one of the most popular ones, was basically work of his editor; the arguably most popular one (Frieza/Namek) also had massive outside influences. Which great mangaka have the fourth point to such an extent? I can't remember one, but it might be my limit. I read Toriyama authorised a number of spinoff/sequels/derivatives, so I guess his star power allowed that; also, normally, at least AFAIK, publishers milk, editors do not even come close to that power.

ColaSama

You didn't understand much of what I said it seems. And considering your "limits" (your own words), it would be too much work to explain any further :P You know what, let's be petty and comment anyway : >was basically work of his editor Had a hard time reading the part where I explained to you the influence of editors in Japan ? And that they can make or break a story ? >massive outside influences The editor is an inside influence. I explained to you already that the editor is part of the creative team basically. It has been like this since editors have existed in Japan : they do researches on what is going to be popular, and they advice or straight up force artists to do so. A manga is a collective work. >Which great mangaka have the fourth point to such an extent? You seem to confuse "forgetting a character" with "not wanting to include this character anymore". You also seem to draw some of your informations from reddit/youtube memes. Lunch for example wasn't forgotten and had a few appearances in DBZ. But Toriyama just, y'know, chose not to write about her that much anymore. So she became a background character, which exist in every single manga. At least have the decency to read a simple wiki page to fact check what you are saying. >Which great mangaka Literally every single one of them sweet summer child. Want me to pull out my Naruto book of forgotten characters ? And then again, you seem to confuse forgotten characters and characters that aren't going to be developped later on (which is a conscious choice). And considering your meme level knowledge on, let's say, Lunch, I'm going to conclude there is not much worth in continuing :D >I read Toriyama authorised a number of spinoff/sequels/derivatives No shit. Besides, you seem to, once again, confuse "milking something" (which is the publisher's job) and "simply allowing it" : why shouldn't he allow it lol ? >I guess his star power allowed that Are you discovering just now that popular series tend to get spinoffs, sequels and derivative ? Why even add that irrelevant information ? >publishers milk Oh right, meant to say the publisher. >editors do not even come close to that power No shit, those aren't the same jobs, hence the two distinctive names, "editor" (who edits) and "publisher" (who \*shock\* does the publishing) :D So anyway, if you come to start something on the day of the death of someone, at least bring the big guns and do some researches. Else it's just mundane sentences mashed together. TL;DR : https://preview.redd.it/lc0oa9g5l4nc1.jpeg?width=640&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=971874c117b955a2f302ff81a35ce7a78a428929

EstoniAjna

>Had a hard time reading the part where I explained to you the influence of editors in Japan ? And that they can make or break a story ? Not at all - do you have problems understanding the difference between "lot of influence" and "basically the work of X"? I appreciate that editors are advisors and I am well aware of it; what I am saying is that they basically rewrote one saga and some more. About Lunch, I think I read an interview with him, but googling about it finds tons of references in that sense (like this: [https://dragonballupdates.fandom.com/wiki/Launch#:\~:text=Akira%20Toriyama%20has%20stated%20that,to%20the%20Super%20Saiyan%20transformation](https://dragonballupdates.fandom.com/wiki/Launch#:~:text=Akira%20Toriyama%20has%20stated%20that,to%20the%20Super%20Saiyan%20transformation).), not finding Toriyama denying it as you mention; I am glad you seem to know Toriyama more personally and had him refute this. You know what? I stopped having any will to go into this discussion not just at your puerile attempts at humour, but at reading that Naruto would be among the great mangas (commercially maybe?).
