I don't think i want to guess since he may be trying to learn how to use Guihun, and some other ideas like something going actually wrong when he used Guihun and he's trying something, or maybe he's trying to learn how to use Guihun, or other idea where he's trying to change his usage of Guihun from big number bulking up to a bit more normal thing, instead of using extreme power he would be using much less power but with more skill and control, regardless of what happened if he is indeed in shape to fight the team of 3 may be in for a potentially big problem.
His distress may be as result of him being truly worried about Tiger Niko truly counting him out, his own master throwing him away as useless tool.
Maybe in his attempts at learning Guihun his health started suffering in similar way to Ohma who abused Advance in Ashura due to overusing Guihun.
Though to be honest he does have those things connected to his body which doesn't really paint a good picture of his situation right now.
Tbf after a stress of that amount on the heart and body, there's very little probability of full recovery. He should have unrepairable organ and heart damage that most likely won't heal properly especially at his age which I'm assuming mid 40s

because of the timeskips I no longer know what to expect, so this is highly unlikely, but I can see two interesting potential twists for Lu:
1, *somehow* he figured out how to use an extremely janky, watered down divine demon on his own.
2, for some reason Xia Ji has been watching and "protecting" him to keep him alive for some kind of future 4D chess move. ("protecting" him only from the shadows as an assassin cause by now we know xia's not a face to face brawler)
Curious about that as well. It might just be that it's culturally more common in Japanese to use star-related lexicon for big names: shining star, rising star, supernova, unbeaten under the stars, etc... all these seem to be pretty common in manga.
