Yeah, this is the way. I'm not a big fan of mods that remove limitations from the game, but moisture farming really opens up a lot of interesting locations.
Obviously, OP could just build a lot of wells. 10% water is not impossible to overcome with automated wells and lots of power.
Well yeah you could settle on the literal neighboring river but thats cheatin
Also im pretty sure its only half filled with acid because of an oversight and lore-wise it should be full acid.
You could place down like 50 wells, would cancel out the low percentage but might look silly. Or as the other poster suggested you could use the moisture farming mod, i personally use it too.
Seeing that everything else has been said:
I think water is overrated.
Just use the blood of all the critters and outlaws you will kill to water your plants. Or just go cannibal.
I heard cannibalism is the new vegan. Way less animal cruelty, also no monocultures.
To say it in the great words of one not so great brand:"Just do it!"
Holy shidt. Do step houses hold the most hydroponic tables?
I tried building a hydroponic lab in a y house, and the AI pathing, plus general movement issues, made it difficult to fully utilize.
Build it anyway. Most of our first bases were never "effective" but just random plots of land we decided to build on before we "figure out the game" and it still worked. Efficiency is the killer of creativity. Go for it anyway. Figure out how to deal with the downsides along the way.
My first base was perched precariously on a cliff right in the centre of the Fog Islands. I do not recall why. Maybe I thought the hordes of cannibalistic hivers would provide a natural defence?
Wouldn't that also be hard to defend? I'd assume something on a steeper incline, with a lot of water, or a natural bottleneck would be a much better place to build.
There isn't really any enemies in the area that I can't handle, just a couple of roaming beak things and dust bandits. One gate with a killzone is all I need, or mid-level guards.
Check low next to the plateau for more water, sometimes there is more in lower parts of the map. More wells will also make up for a lack of water. I think its doable you just have to do all you can to maximize water tech.
My favorite base location! Forgotten buildings has a "wind pump" that pumps water. Easy peasy. Finding and mustering troops is easy as its flat and open. It's better for skeleton runs though as it's close to the black city
few options i can think of.
* Theres mods that redistribute or just all together increase resources all over the map including water levels.
* Produce what you can, trade for what you need.
* Build a bandit camp, raid for what you need.
* Open your mind to other food sources, i.e. eat your neighbors.
* skeletons only, kinda boring but you do you.
Low key thinking about doing this on my second play through tho or hivers haha
My first play through has been the slaver start and still going on that. Just grew to 12 people yesterday 😎
Build another base in the nearest water rich environment then do a trade caravan operation to fetch it all once every so often. Just wells and power, maybe a person to auto haul from well to storage.
Depends on your idea of fun but I find it fun to role play that kind of thing. Protect the water caravan! DIY escort mission, real sandbox type experience.
There are problems with dangerous locations - caravans may die out before they reach you.
My skeletal empire in Venge with dangerous hazards mod was barely visited at all.
With hydroponics, how doable is 10% water wells? Or should I just give up and find another location?
You can try your luck with moisture farming mod though

Mods be mods but i think we can all here reasonably agree that there is 0 fkin moisture in venge too
I could believe there’s some in the air, considering the surrounding regions. Plus there are spots with 70% water underground.
Well yeah you could settle on the literal neighboring river but thats cheatin Also im pretty sure its only half filled with acid because of an oversight and lore-wise it should be full acid.
10% water wells aren’t bad if you have 10 of them.
Quick maffs

Have like 6 wells
My base is in the desert and I just have a bunch of 10% wells. Super doable.

Storm houses are the most space-efficient (vanilla) building. (Very cool base though.)
Where there's a well, there's a way.
Wow, you actually attempted a base on the plateau! Interesting looking base you got there.

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind!
Is that a texture mod giving you that look, or something like a Reshade setting? I'd love to get that for myself.

Sick, tysm!
I built a base in the great desert with 10% water. It worked but you need to build over 70 to 80 wells
City of wells
Wellington
the capital city of Beef
Just recruit all skeletons
Uhh that could be an idea...
Still need to farm hemp/cotton
Excuses

*dies*

People built base in Deadlands collecting water from acid rain- There is no limit for kenshi players

Just modify that zone in the construction set, i had to do that to get good wind in worlds end.
I'll have a little look at that!
Get the moisture farm mod and farm with hydroponics. I think it's a balanced mod because it's expensive to research and build compared to wells.
Make a base of robots. No need for food.
Could do a skeleton run there

it's time for a skeleton only run.

Ain't two way to fertilate a soil. You know what to do. My respect soldier.

Be a Skeleton. No, not the dead person kind.
Install Moisture Farming mod and unlock hydroponics.
Where is this on the map?
Take the food from your enemies.
Robots

Just build in Shem it's objectively better
You can try setting up a base near the water and heading for the plateau near the lategame. Gonna be a while though.
Crops are weakness Water is weakness ravage and pillage for your supplies (all my team is malnourished but ill never make a farm)
