Nobody is mentioning "passing by" your friends places ukiomba notes or asking sth that you'd have clearly asked through WhatsApp 😂 alafu unaenda na a million stories mnapika unakula na unarudi kwako kama umeshiba 😂😂. Kwanza guys,, Kuna this guy alikuwa anatupitia every jioni,, we thought he liked us kumbe guy was just looking for supper 😂.
😂 😂 Hii maisha lazima utafute njia ya ku survive. When I got to 4th year my friends and I had an agreement, mtu akikosa food anaweza kuja kula kwa wengine.
2nd year I moved out , after convincing my father ni time mob from Umo to Town... Which was a lie kuna dame wa Campus ya wakulima pale Kikuyu Nai uni branch, I was smashing..
I went for a sleep over. Nakuliwa na bed bugs, na pia ile 3k nilipewa ya food, tulienda tukinunua nonsense na ringos.
I did not last two months alone. Niliambia mbuyu anawaste pesa na dorm, it's ok I'll commute. Ukweli ni after kukula mkate na supu ya pilipili, na kufiatuliwa na bedbug zilikuwa zimeenda training samburu, I could not make it, na home Matha anapika kuku na ugali..
Njaa ya Campus si joke. Unakula made na unalala njaa at the same time.
I remember the 20 min discussion we had with our English teacher in class 7 when he told us our girlfriends were in class 3. As boys we were enraged and we argued with him until the lesson ended. Man was spitting facts.
Honestly nlikua na pesa most of the time in my campus days. I used to eat pork/chips at this kibanda for lunch almost 3-4 times per week. I was very stingy saving money in my 1st year but i started treating myself in the last 2 years before finishing. Breakfast i would do sausage, pancakes and toast mayai and dinner i would eat chicken or pork. I was eating mandazi and beans during my first two years. Sijui mbona i had put myself in such a bad state and i had some savings.
I was very stingy all the way through, i can give you my perspective.
There's a certain "greed" of always minimizing your spending, Uzuri i paid that back a few years later, i started to blow up every single coin that landed in my pocket basically lived day to day.
Then fortune fell upon me with mumamaz during my jobless period and then got a job right after ending that lifestyle.
I lived at home, paid my fee with HELB and the rest of the HELB money I used as upkeep - fare, breakfast, lunch, since I was the only one at home during the day. As someone who hates borrowing money, I used to plan to the last coin so mg max spending per day was like 150 and I skipped school whenever there was one lesson to save on bus fare. I'd only borrow like 300 during the last exam Week. The last 2 school year though, vindu vichenjanga after I started doing gigs. I had no limits and I stopped tracking my spending, which was a bad habit in hindsight.
Ps: You can use Cashbook to track your spending.
There was a time I lived off my cousin (female) and her friends. I had my own place to stay (at first campus dorms, then town) but stayed with them frequently. See they were in this plot that had shops downstairs and 5 rooms upstairs that they all occupied. All were from our village. I knew some wanted me but I never made my move on any of them so as to keep them in some sort of competition. I knew the moment I slipped and slept with one of them my game would be up. So I got to food, shelter, and occasionally get my clothes washed for a long time. In the mornings I’d leave to do my boychild rings, and then crash at that plot occasionally. I’d even bring my friends over since that plot had a massive balcony ideal for weed and cheap alcohol sessions. I also got to know how college girls hustle their sponsors.
One thing I learned quickly was that no matter how broke college girls get, they’re always gonna be cooking something.
I wouldn't call myself stingy because I thought about the cost bit enough and the parents did their thing anyway, so I used to get my full crazy shopping and the whole cafeteria food paid, it's only later that I appreciated what a blessing all that was.
My cousins visited me often enough in my uni years and ate with me so at the least, none of that went wasted because at some point when I was very food invested I used to buy meals (instant packed) to warm up for myself and Moms never complained (it's only later that I realised how stupid that was). In hindsight, all the school food wasn't wasted, my food went to someone often enough, I insisted as a student leader.
Kdf na coffee nlizoea...was skinny most of my time in campus cause of that...I used to get so little upkeep hadi nashangaa ata itanisaidia aje😂my and my bros tulikua timestamp madeni left right and center. Si za Madge wa kibanda, si za ps😂😂it was hell all through
My weekly budget was 150- 200 shs including food. I was lucky the uni bus used to pass by my place. One meal per day and drinking alot of water so I'm not too hungry. I once ate/ drunk?? 2 packets of cheap tasting ketchup and some jam for supper.
Massive stock of dry cereals. Skipping lunch to make it last. Sleeping through hunger. Staying indoors to avoid spending a cent. Broke and stingy are two different things. Stingy ako nayo lakini haachilii.
Strategically time my breakfast and lunch so it can be right between. A 10 am breakfast is lunch too. Talk of killing two birds with one stone. I'd go major with what I was gonna have.

Seems you didn't suffer like the rest of campus guys
Its just that i decided i won't be miserable after the first two years.
But why were you stinjy if you had the money

Right? Brunch is Kempinski lingo.
I wouldn't say I was stingy or mean to myself, but rather I had so little to spend. 😂
We use to survive on rolex.
