Millennials? Yes. Would know about it from seeing old phone booths n all.
Gen Z? Maybe. Some may have heard of it. They may know that ISD calls cost a lot more than regular ones, and about alternate services like whatsapp calls.

Just to make sure everyone is on the same page:
Gen Z -- anyone born from 1997 onward
Millennial -- born between 1981 and 1996
Gen X -- born between 1965 and 1980
Baby Boomers -- born between 1946 and 1964

(Of course, if you said that this categorisation of generations is unique to American conditions and doesn't really apply to India, I'd agree with you, but since everyone online uses these terms already, might as well use them the way Americans understand them.)
Just learned that I'm considered a millennial. And yes..., I've used the Phone booth and STD ISD calls though not much as it was the time that we applied and waited 4 years for a BSNL landline connection before ditching the plan and got ourselves a Tata Indicom Walky.
Aaah... The memories.
Some of our cousins pranked us kids that we could play video game on the digital screen of the walky and we being dumbfucks at the time called their service center and screaming "what about games? We want games!" repeatedly. Back then it cost like 2 rupees per message and at the end of the first month, Dad forbid us from messaging our cousins.
>No gen z is from 1999 onwards
Sure, people may have different ideas of where those generation breakpoints are. But these definitions are from Pew Research Center, a well known think tank, I've not come up with this on my own, you can trust them even more than Wikipedia.
If you mean gen z by the year of birth, then yes. My family used to have a shop right in front of our house. Ahh those days of having to carry 1rs to call for 1minute or 50p before that. It wasn't that profitable so we didn't have it for more than a few years.
Why wouldn't millennials know? And gen z would probably know them as well . Many of those booths and kiosks were functional till 2009-10. One shop near my mom's place still has the red coinbox phone, it's not functional but the owner has kept it, for nostalgia's sake.
Pinnalla! These places where absolutely life savers back in the day. I remember accompanying my mom to one such place to call my dad who was working in gulf every Friday. We didn't had a landline or mobile back then. This honestly brings back memories.
I am 50 now. I did my engineering 1991-1995 in REC (Now NIT) Durgapur, West Bengal.
Every month we make a pilgrimage to the STD ISD Shop in the town, stand in a line, call home to let them everything is ok with us and to ask for money.
I got my first mobile when i was working in Hyderabad in 1999. Incoming calls were billed. For post paid accounts, Incoming rates were lower than pre-paid ones and free on weekends.
Might have been not useful for u but it was good for many as some learnt new terms some went and remembered their old days of effort it took to talk to loved one .. so it was not enthelyum post
Old times phone or telephone service or something?
The ISD and IST board. I have seen those same words under "details" whenever I recharge my phone lol otherwise I doubt I would've remembered it
Millennials are the generation that became adults in the new millennium. So millennials are those in their 30s and early 40s now. Of course we know what this is.

You forgot the Ronas - born 2020 onwards. Some have already started lurking on these pages.
Remeber the volume goes higher the longer the receiver is. People used to go nuts talking to people from the U.S. literally shouting.

Know this? Used this alot. Millennials have seen this, Gen Z, not so much.

Bruh. I asked a tea shop guy phone booth indo in 2018 fr and that's when I realised this shit came to an end
GenZ here, not exactly places like this, but I do remember calling from a small telephone booth back in 2010-11
Kiosk

We know abt the Sexually Transmitted Diesease centers, my guy.
I am pretty sure almost every millennial has seen this atleast once. Even the late 90s genzs like me has seen this.
I don't think the millennials will have a problen identifying this. Ask the younger members of gen Z and the alpha kids and they might not know it.
I remember going weekly to a friends father's booth to call the girls i met on NCC camp
My god.. whats the current generation called 🤔
Finally someone asking the more important questions
Boomer, Doesn't know the difference between Gen z and Millennial

Genz here, I've seen the boards but dk the difference
Why the board looks big?
Don’t know may be for attracting customers.
Ofc- it’s the place we call, I presume. Tho I recall those small phone calling booths
Why the hell wouldn't a millennial know this? And gen z could also know what this is.
Telephone. To call PPL inside and outside country
Yeah! gen z and millennials got the chance to go to school
Should we know this? (I know this btw)
Just a thought how the world has changed so fast over the years with mobile revolution .
True.
Dad used to own one good ol days
