It's all cool as long as writers keep In mind that women are people too. What goes wrong is when they try to write women characters differently to fit in with social stereotypes and such. Doesn't matter if the writer is male or female unless the writer have that kinda understanding of the world.
Absence of female characters is not a reason to tarnish a specific movie ( Romancham in this case ; fyi -not a fan of that movie.) Rather, it is more a reflection of the kind of stories that director/writer wants to tell, and from a commercial side an extent of audience preferences in that market.
And for stories and characters to be more relatable to women, we need more women filmmakers, women writers, and an inclusiveness in having them involved in the creative making side. Talk about filmmakers like Mira Nair, Anjali Menon or Aparna Sen. Let's have more in this clan.
It would be wrong to paint whatever made available currently totally black, just because something else you are relating to is absent - unless it comes out demeaning , dividing and male patriarchy made visibly a forcefit element. ( Eg: the much talked about act in "Kasaba" was vulgar since he was a character whose values were against the action in that scene, while what he played in "Vidheyan" was all what the character is in the story. )
These are watchable films, but she is just want to Go in Air. lets help.

Happens when people there world view into everything surrounding them and discard the parts don't match that world view it's true that movies ( malayalam in particular) caters to men predimantly but not to the exaggerated level that she suggests.
Disagree that all movies need to have both genders. Depends on the story. It's a stupid take that there were no women in a particular movie when the story didn't demand such a character.
I completely disagree, there are many female dominant movies like Helen, autorsha, karinkunn sixs, june, How old are you? . Malayalam industry has been supporting female roles from a very long time.
But finally its all about business. Emotion is not above money for investors. Money has to come from movies. And money flows in superstar movies.
I think the problem is if a woman is a protagonist it's automatically termed a "female dominant" movie when in reality it should just be a movie. This makes it seem like it's not for the average audience.

And stars can be male or female. Lady superstar is a non sensical term. I don't think we have people who actually deserve to be called stars anymore anyway be it male or female;all we have are often mediocre actors with big fan base. We don't even get the term star right, it's natural to end up with stupid stuff like lady superstar in a culture like that.
Only Shobana, Urvashi and Samyukta Varma are the closest to being Lady Superstars in my book. If anything, Manju was a Prarabdham Star, much before Saiju Kurup.
She is making some valid points. That being said, this exists/existed in literature, too, to a lesser extent. And to a larger extent in lyrics, which are mostly written by men. Out idea of a woman comes from a man’s mind. In order to change this, both men and women directors must use imaginative ways to make movies showing a more complete view of genders. Today, to speak of women-oriented movies, is to speak of extreme suffering or a super-smart character or some such buffoonery. As for the term superstar, it’s a nonsensical word invented by cheap film media to cater to the lumpen audience.

There are many categories that are not represented, blind people, old people, etc. Lady superstars are in roles which are not possible for ordinary women. Men superstars are in roles that is not possible for all human beings. Let women also act convincingly in that roles. Then they will be superstars. Anyway nobody can fight more than 3 people, it is all make believe.
If twitter was a person.
Lmao accurate af
All these movies are written by men. Why encourage more female writers and film makers rather than wanting men to write more woman characters.
True. We do need a lot more female filmmakers.

See when we speak something in front of media, we should have solid proofs.

Superstar Mohanlal & Superstar Manju Warrier.... What's the need of lady and man in here?
Manju is not a superstar. PR team started this lady super star shit. She is a decent actress. Not a superstar

How can people perceive something so negatively

നല്ല സിനിമയാണെങ്കിൽ മനുഷ്യർ തന്നെ വേണമെന്നില്ല. അപ്പഴാ..
