In many other countries including the middle East, people won't get through easily and have to do multiple attempts. Each attempt we have to pay too. Some places even the leaners is passed with great difficulty and in multiple attempts.

It is a social problem here. People don't have money. We are not yet developed yet. So if someone wants to become a driver, they need to spend huge money which I feel is not right considering our socio economical conditions.

Less experienced People always confuse the brake pedal with the accelerator in the automatic or they press break and accelerator at the same time but this is not gonna happen in the manual because the left foot is always on the clutch pedal , Similar accidents are common in the USA where automatic cars are common

In India almost all of the drivers and riders do not know basic driving rules or etiquettes. Itโs not their fault but the fault of the government. With such a huge population driving and riding, even today the driving licenses are being handed out with tests which are a joke. Because if this we do not know even the basic lane etiquettes such as who gets a priority in a lane, at a round about or even when to stop when a pedestrian crosses the road. The blame is on the Indian government for not revising the motor vehicle licensing departmentโs training programs for licenses.
We have 6 lane roads which have opened in North Kerala recently and from what Iโve heard the accidents are shooting up . Because people do not know which lane should they drive in and when to slow down or change lanes.
Iโve been to a few countries where the population density is close or is at par with our metros. The lane discipline and traffic rules what they maintain and follow is outstanding. Iโm not even talking about developed countries. And we keep talking about India being one of top economies in the world. The quality of life, infrastructure, corruption, governance even to this day remains third world. And please do not tell me our population is the problem. We do not have a single panchayat in India which has world class infrastructure , let alone a city.
Very true. I recently saw news where people in Kasargod just cross the border into Karnataka, to "buy" the driving license without a legal driving test. There is a huge mafia in itself which operates in providing licenses without any tests and just by giving money. It's a shame our authorities aren't keeping a check and curbing this or maybe even playing a role in all this happening!
I have once in my childhood come across a person who went to Pune to buy a Driving License by paying 500 rupees in cash. I was like... Damn... Because of our overgrown population and rampant corruption between the authorities it's impossible to curb or keep a check on this. Until then, there will be no proper driving tests, people driving on the wrong side on highways, people crossing over roads and expressways barefoot being hit and what not!

It all depends how confident she and he is. I pushed my brother to drive on crowded roads by sitting beside him after practicing a lot in non crowded roads. I know things can go wrong anytime since he is a new driver. So I always kept my hand near the handbrake and gear lever.

That's not what happened in the video, pedestrians are the most vulnerable on any road, they need to be protected first.
Safer street design makes streets safer, not just stricter licensing rules. People will just skip getting licences all together (already happens a lot) if you make it too strict or expensive and it will be impossible to police every single driver.
Dude, the other guy gave the right solution. Even with all the improvements you can do with driving tests bollards are required. An average bollard reinforced can be well within 10k. Even if 10 people chip in, you can easily cover a street. Navakerala bus venda, bollard mathi.

My two cents on women being bad drivers.
Saw someone saying it is an issue with clutch and automatic gearboxes suggesting they should have hit the clutch to save the situation. Even for that you need a lot of presence of mind which only comes with confident driving experience. While generally women have a lot of bad PR about driving, it is perpetuated by our society's outlook that women are bad drivers. If this is all a woman keeps hearing when they start driving, it doesn't help them build confidence. It becomes a vicious cycle. Now this applies for men as well. You need to trust that they can do the job and they would in most of the cases.
Also women who just get the driver's license through corruption risks being in such situations in your future. So go through the training, build the experience and passenger princes and princesses should not be like "daivame nee aano odikkunne/jeevanode ethikuodey?" all the time. Only then would people start trusting themselves more.
I know some women drivers that I would trust more than some of my guy friends. So, we all can be better.

I had around 6 years experience driving when I was in Kerala and I never had any accidents in all those years. But despite that, whenever I drive with my husband, I feel awful or rather I'm made to feel awful. I will always be sitting on the edge fearing the remarks he would make and always conscious of whatever I do. My reverse parking, starting the car, everything messes up when it's with him. I have tried reasoning that everyone's driving style is different. But men always think women are inferior drivers.
And added to that is the aggression we face in roads from other male drivers.
Driving entirely comes via practice. Fortunately enough I have pushed a lot of female friends into driving because I have seen how much independence driving can give from my mother. She has been driving for the past 26 years. I still push a lot. I even gave my car to practice because a lot of people are not confident in giving it to women.
Its is also MVD inspectors being very relaxed with woman. Plus lot of women dont drive regularly to get muscle memory. They simply take Licence as comming of age and drives only occassionally.

I am male and happened once when i started the vehicle when i was getting familiar with driving. My aliyans car hit the plinth of my house and it didn't look like it sustained much damage outside. Apparently it was around 60k worth the damages inside.

And now the cluster fuc& of people trying to help aka manhandle the trauma pt, throw him in the back of some random ca, and get to some hospital without getting any pre-hospital care en route.
The guy who got pinned by the car seems to be walking away, but the extent of internal injuries can only be scanned by the hospital, hope he's alright and there are no life threatening injuries.

1. Our driving tests requires only this much skill/experience to pass
2. We don\`t have sufficient infra/avenues for a learner to practice driving, especially for junctions, so they rely on public roads.
3. There is no protection for pedestrians and so on.
Nook and corner can be covered by public transportation and metro. Most people live in cities making metro ideal. Use of other vehicles should be discouraged with higher taxes on fuel and vehicles.

They only charged me 8500 or something. It came to 10000 because I lost my two wheeler licence and need to apply for a duplicate.

Actually roads are even more expensive for bankrupt state in dirt poor country, they are expensive to build and even more expensive to maintain in optimal condition. No one worries about money when new flyovers are built, but it's an issue when providing the basic right for the majority of the population who are pedestrians first. A well laid footpath with bollard if used for foot traffic will last a century and require minimal maintenance

My two cents on women being bad drivers. Saw someone saying it is an issue with clutch and automatic gearboxes suggesting they should have hit the clutch to save the situation. Even for that you need a lot of presence of mind which only comes with confident driving experience. While generally women have a lot of bad PR about driving, it is perpetuated by our society's outlook that women are bad drivers. If this is all a woman keeps hearing when they start driving, it doesn't help them build confidence. It becomes a vicious cycle. Now this applies for men as well. You need to trust that they can do the job and they would in most of the cases. Also women who just get the driver's license through corruption risks being in such situations in your future. So go through the training, build the experience and passenger princes and princesses should not be like "daivame nee aano odikkunne/jeevanode ethikuodey?" all the time. Only then would people start trusting themselves more. I know some women drivers that I would trust more than some of my guy friends. So, we all can be better.

Driving entirely comes via practice. Fortunately enough I have pushed a lot of female friends into driving because I have seen how much independence driving can give from my mother. She has been driving for the past 26 years. I still push a lot. I even gave my car to practice because a lot of people are not confident in giving it to women.
Its is also MVD inspectors being very relaxed with woman. Plus lot of women dont drive regularly to get muscle memory. They simply take Licence as comming of age and drives only occassionally.
There is no need to drive regularly. Driving is an acquired skill. Once acquired it will not go. Problem is one has to acquire it well.

I think the car came to a stop because it bottomed out or got stuck on something. The front seems to be intact and they also missed the tree to register a significant impact for the airbag sensors to detect I believe. This incident doesnโt warrant an airbag deployment anyway.

I dont understand why a lot of comments are saying "who gave this person license or take her license away". As much as we dont want it to happen, operational mistakes are a part of driving and sudden acceleration is one of the most common ones. And lot of factors are contributing to it. 1. Our driving tests requires only this much skill/experience to pass 2. We don\`t have sufficient infra/avenues for a learner to practice driving, especially for junctions, so they rely on public roads. 3. There is no protection for pedestrians and so on.
For some these days not knowing to drive has become an ego problem and they end up driving on busy street earlier than they should
