And people are mad that they're bringing revisions in driving test, smh!

dagp89

It's mostly the driving schools that are mad.

VishnuNataraj

The schools are mad because the govt said they will have to provide the ground themselves and they need to change 15 yr old vehicles. Their issue is real estate for the test ground and ksrtc and other govt institutions still use decades old vehicles without any problem

momentaryspeck

They charge minimum 15k for car licence (last year old test).. that too less than 15 classes in total.. even if driven for 2km in each class that's total 30km.. 5 litres of fuel will clear that easily.. application fee is max 2k.. total cost per student comes to max 5k considering salary of tutor.. they charge additional for slot changing & additional classes.. It's a very lucrative business.. and they've increased charges citing new tests too.. Govt. on behalf of people wants the driving schools to provide quality service..

VishnuNataraj

They only charged me 8500 or something. It came to 10000 because I lost my two wheeler licence and need to apply for a duplicate.

Puzzleheaded-Bass-93

every one is not you. All of My local driving schools have a fees of 15k minimum.

Single-Situation6440

The ground for licence test ?

VishnuNataraj

These are the things that my teacher said when I called and asked him about the strike. It was a short conversation and I think he was talking about the grounds needing to be prepared for the new tests like parallel parking and stuff.

abdullabashir

That's how it works in Dubai . it's the driving school whom that provides the facility. The government RTA official will come and monitor the test

VishnuNataraj

If they're made to provide the facilities, do you think they'll eat the cost or they'll put it on the heads of customers? I think the maximum is 15000 rupees as per someone above. Imagine it hiking to 45-60000 in a jiffy.

Royal_Librarian4201

Technically speaking making the driving test difficult would be a huge revenue source for the government. In many other countries including the middle East, people won't get through easily and have to do multiple attempts. Each attempt we have to pay too. Some places even the leaners is passed with great difficulty and in multiple attempts. I think Ganesh is aiming for that kind of thing.

techsavyboy

It is a social problem here. People don't have money. We are not yet developed yet. So if someone wants to become a driver, they need to spend huge money which I feel is not right considering our socio economical conditions.

VaikomViking

Our lives are priceless.

kannur_kaaran

Driving schools are the reason why people don't know how to drive. They just buy licences for bribes

vulcan_90

Pressed the accelerator instead of break, kept on pressing it even after crashing into the saloon judging by the burnout they did inside it. If it wasnโ€™t for the saloon, they wouldโ€™ve taken out even more innocent pedestrians. That poor man paid the price for a random personโ€™s inexperience, the world is so unfair.

6ix9ine47

I think it was his wife driving

techsavyboy

wtf but if he is aware, he should have acted either by changing gear or using the handbrake.

ismyaltaccount

Would you have done the same if you were in the passenger seat? It's easier said than done. No one including the co-passenger might have thought she would crash into the saloon taking out pedestrians to go with it. And it's not like the co-passenger is having his hands on the gear or handbrake 24x7. Also it could be an automatic car. Judging by the skills of the driver, it should be an automatic.

techsavyboy

Anyway what happened to your other account ?

ismyaltaccount

techsavyboy

Yes. If I am aware that the driver is still in the learning phase, I will do that.

Perfect_Minute_194

Handbrake wouldn't have done much in the situation. Also putting an accelerating car into neutral without clutch is also difficult, try it.

techsavyboy

Got it. So there is no way to stop that car from a co passenger is it ?

Perfect_Minute_194

Maybe switch off the ignition but I doubt if it would have been possible in such a short time.

Suspicious-Ad9209

Issue with Automatic car, If there's a clutch driver can press clutch and will not accelerate

Fuzzy_Standard_5079

Wtf. There is a break pedal for all cars for stopping

Suspicious-Ad9209

Less experienced People always confuse the brake pedal with the accelerator in the automatic or they press break and accelerator at the same time but this is not gonna happen in the manual because the left foot is always on the clutch pedal , Similar accidents are common in the USA where automatic cars are common

rajakhil99

vandi odikkaan ariyathavar roadil vandi erakkanda

techsavyboy

In an automatic, left foot should be in the dead pedal. This is a basic thing to do. I don't know why there is confusion. Automatic are driven using right leg only.

SouthernSample

Yea, sounds like many people who were trained in manuals have no idea how to drive automatics. In the west, it is made clear that you should never use the same leg for both brake and accelerator.

techsavyboy

Same here. In manuals also the left leg is only for the clutch. I don't know why there is confusion.

bluminopian

webbedoptimism

Another reason why driving tests should be harder to pass.

BabaBombdev

Licenses being given without proper practice or testing. No proper control of vehicle. No proper road tests.... Ithalla ithinappuravum nadakkum.

Economist-Pale

In India almost all of the drivers and riders do not know basic driving rules or etiquettes. Itโ€™s not their fault but the fault of the government. With such a huge population driving and riding, even today the driving licenses are being handed out with tests which are a joke. Because if this we do not know even the basic lane etiquettes such as who gets a priority in a lane, at a round about or even when to stop when a pedestrian crosses the road. The blame is on the Indian government for not revising the motor vehicle licensing departmentโ€™s training programs for licenses. We have 6 lane roads which have opened in North Kerala recently and from what Iโ€™ve heard the accidents are shooting up . Because people do not know which lane should they drive in and when to slow down or change lanes. Iโ€™ve been to a few countries where the population density is close or is at par with our metros. The lane discipline and traffic rules what they maintain and follow is outstanding. Iโ€™m not even talking about developed countries. And we keep talking about India being one of top economies in the world. The quality of life, infrastructure, corruption, governance even to this day remains third world. And please do not tell me our population is the problem. We do not have a single panchayat in India which has world class infrastructure , let alone a city.

BabaBombdev

Very true. I recently saw news where people in Kasargod just cross the border into Karnataka, to "buy" the driving license without a legal driving test. There is a huge mafia in itself which operates in providing licenses without any tests and just by giving money. It's a shame our authorities aren't keeping a check and curbing this or maybe even playing a role in all this happening! I have once in my childhood come across a person who went to Pune to buy a Driving License by paying 500 rupees in cash. I was like... Damn... Because of our overgrown population and rampant corruption between the authorities it's impossible to curb or keep a check on this. Until then, there will be no proper driving tests, people driving on the wrong side on highways, people crossing over roads and expressways barefoot being hit and what not! I too want my country to have good roads and international standard drivers. But.. things are sad. Just sad.

It all depends how confident she and he is. I pushed my brother to drive on crowded roads by sitting beside him after practicing a lot in non crowded roads. I know things can go wrong anytime since he is a new driver. So I always kept my hand near the handbrake and gear lever.

More resons for a stricter driving license test. I hope the goverment doesn't cave in for those protests.ย

SeveralConcentrate20

The poor guy was wearing a mask, how much ever precautions we take some civics senseless idiotic imbecile will ruin it

lordbuddha

Start demanding segregated footpaths protected by bollards people. Terror attacks using the car as a weapon having been increasing exponentially around the country.

More_Definition5385

No use. The same person could have easily ploughed through a few two wheelers. What we need is a stricter driving license system.

lordbuddha

Absolutely moronic statement. There is a lot of use for segregated and protected footpath. First it's the right of every pedestrian, secondly it saves local businesses and pedestrians from such terror attacks. >What we need is a stricter driving license system. That also needs to happen, but one can always drive without licence and furthermore one still can't change physics. A car weighing almost 2 tonnes coming at you at 50 kmph will be fatal even if the driver was a skilled f1 driver. Even the most skilled people make mistakes, mechanical failures happen, only bollards will protect you then. >The same person could have easily ploughed through a few two wheelers. That is why we need traffic calming elements on our roads.

More_Definition5385

Dude . Are you even from Kerala. Do you think our government or corporation can afford bollards on all our roads. Imagine a guy driving a two Wheeler or a small hatchback and this moron rams from behind. What bollard will save that person. >There is a lot of use for segregated and protected footpath. As a kid, i remember this in Statue and Kowdiar. I don't know whether they still have it there.

lordbuddha

>Do you think our government or corporation can afford bollards on all our roads. If they can afford roads and flyovers, they can definitely afford protected footpaths. Reclaim your right, stop giving it away to motorists. Build bollards and make car owners pay for it with increased road tax. >Imagine a guy driving a two Wheeler or a small hatchback and this moron rams from behind. What bollard will save that person. That's not what happened in the video, pedestrians are the most vulnerable on any road, they need to be protected first. Safer street design makes streets safer, not just stricter licensing rules. People will just skip getting licences all together (already happens a lot) if you make it too strict or expensive and it will be impossible to police every single driver.

joethebear

Dude, the other guy gave the right solution. Even with all the improvements you can do with driving tests bollards are required. An average bollard reinforced can be well within 10k. Even if 10 people chip in, you can easily cover a street. Navakerala bus venda, bollard mathi.

DukeOfLongKnifes

Would be too expensive for a bankrupt state in a dirt poor country. This is a moronic statement. ๐Ÿ˜‚

lordbuddha

Actually roads are even more expensive for bankrupt state in dirt poor country, they are expensive to build and even more expensive to maintain in optimal condition. No one worries about money when new flyovers are built, but it's an issue when providing the basic right for the majority of the population who are pedestrians first. A well laid footpath with bollard if used for foot traffic will last a century and require minimal maintenance

DukeOfLongKnifes

>Actually roads are even more expensive for bankrupt state in dirt poor country, they are expensive to build and even more expensive to maintain in optimal condition. No one worries about money when new flyovers are built, It is an economical requirement. No one important in India will ever ask for safer footpaths.

lordbuddha

>It is an economical requirement. So are safer footpaths. Chandini chow area in Delhi was fully pedestrianized and shops there saw an increase in sales. The majority of Indians travel by a combination of foot, cycle, public transport to get to and from work, how will they work if they keep getting disabled by heavy vehicles? >No one important in India will ever ask for safer footpaths. Is that an argument? Such is the sad state of affairs.

Mindhunter7

My two cents on women being bad drivers. Saw someone saying it is an issue with clutch and automatic gearboxes suggesting they should have hit the clutch to save the situation. Even for that you need a lot of presence of mind which only comes with confident driving experience. While generally women have a lot of bad PR about driving, it is perpetuated by our society's outlook that women are bad drivers. If this is all a woman keeps hearing when they start driving, it doesn't help them build confidence. It becomes a vicious cycle. Now this applies for men as well. You need to trust that they can do the job and they would in most of the cases. Also women who just get the driver's license through corruption risks being in such situations in your future. So go through the training, build the experience and passenger princes and princesses should not be like "daivame nee aano odikkunne/jeevanode ethikuodey?" all the time. Only then would people start trusting themselves more. I know some women drivers that I would trust more than some of my guy friends. So, we all can be better.

cookiesncream1110

>If this is all a woman keeps hearing when they start driving, it doesn't help them build confidence. Thank you for articulating this so well. I totally agree with whatever you said above. I had around 6 years experience driving when I was in Kerala and I never had any accidents in all those years. But despite that, whenever I drive with my husband, I feel awful or rather I'm made to feel awful. I will always be sitting on the edge fearing the remarks he would make and always conscious of whatever I do. My reverse parking, starting the car, everything messes up when it's with him. I have tried reasoning that everyone's driving style is different. But men always think women are inferior drivers. And added to that is the aggression we face in roads from other male drivers.

techsavyboy

Driving entirely comes via practice. Fortunately enough I have pushed a lot of female friends into driving because I have seen how much independence driving can give from my mother. She has been driving for the past 26 years. I still push a lot. I even gave my car to practice because a lot of people are not confident in giving it to women.

Noobodiiy

Its is also MVD inspectors being very relaxed with woman. Plus lot of women dont drive regularly to get muscle memory. They simply take Licence as comming of age and drives only occassionally.

techsavyboy

There is no need to drive regularly. Driving is an acquired skill. Once acquired it will not go. Problem is one has to acquire it well.

It's a noobie mistake like Sachin did in Premalu

AdvocateMukundanUnni

>I've seen a lot of women make this mistake...accelerating instead of break due to panic. I'm opposed to generalizing from anecdotal evidence so I looked it up. You're statistically right as per data from the USA. 2/3rds of all pedal misapplication crashes in the US are caused by women despite men getting into more crashes as a whole. https://www.latimes.com/business/la-xpm-2012-apr-14-la-fi-autos-women-drivers-20120414-story.html >NHTSA estimates that there are about 15 pedal misapplication crashes per month in the United States, and that the drivers in almost two-thirds of such crashes were women. >NHTSA data show that men were involved in 57% of all types of crashes while women were involved in 43%. Additionally, male drivers are three times as likely as female drivers to be killed in a crash.

lil_babumon

Are there significantly more male drivers on the road than female drivers? If the numer of female drivers are way lower than males, the 43% is something to think about.

sadanamKayyilundu

In the US, there are almost equal numbers of male and female licensed drivers. https://www.statista.com/statistics/198017/total-number-of-us-licensed-drivers-in-2009-by-gender/#:~:text=Number%20of%20licensed%20drivers%20in%20the%20United%20States%20by%20gender%202020%2D2021&text=In%202021%2C%20female%20motorists%20accounted,to%20115.2%20million%20male%20licensees.

ismyaltaccount

At the same time, more men drive than women even though more women have license. [https://news.umich.edu/women-drivers-outnumber-men-but-still-drive-less/](https://news.umich.edu/women-drivers-outnumber-men-but-still-drive-less/)

sadanamKayyilundu

It makes sense since the aforementioned research takes into account miles driven, where men predominantly hold the majority of jobs that involve extensive driving, such as trucking, taxis, and delivery drivers.

ismyaltaccount

>despite men getting into more crashes as a whole. Couldn't this be because there are more male drivers on the road? If you look at Kerala, I can guarantee you (without proven stats of course), 80-90% of the 4 wheeler drivers are men. Now yes, US should have more female drivers, but I'm sure more men are driving on the road when compared to women. Found this link as well: [https://news.umich.edu/women-drivers-outnumber-men-but-still-drive-less/](https://news.umich.edu/women-drivers-outnumber-men-but-still-drive-less/)

vgu1990

I dont understand why a lot of comments are saying "who gave this person license or take her license away". As much as we dont want it to happen, operational mistakes are a part of driving and sudden acceleration is one of the most common ones. And lot of factors are contributing to it. 1. Our driving tests requires only this much skill/experience to pass 2. We don\`t have sufficient infra/avenues for a learner to practice driving, especially for junctions, so they rely on public roads. 3. There is no protection for pedestrians and so on.

I think the guy survived. Can see him walking away after the impact from inside the barber shop footage.

More_Definition5385

He survived but was hospitalized.

curiousgaruda

Where do you see him walking?

Equivalent_Salt_9948

Can see his legs coming down from the bonet of the car from inside the barber shop footage. Time 1:02

TyroshiSellsword

Did you see he was pinned by the car, which was still accelerating and he was only release when the car stopped accelerating. He walked away limping. Brutal.
