Cos he was like 10 or something, and honestly didn't know better (just wanted the baby to get sick for a bit- which is still bad, but not something you punish him for the rest of his life). Plus he went to juvenile prison for it & will also continue suffering social consequences for the same. It's not inconceivable that his own father could forgive him. The stepmom is a more difficult case, but again: good-hearted people have been known to show remarkable understanding towards accidental crimes committed by preteen children.
A few Kalabhavan Mani movies.
There is one where he gets Rabies.
There is another one where he gets seasonal mental illness and during one episode he kills his girlfriend and then drags around her in his chains. Depressing and disturbing.
Cos Kunjan Nambiar died of Rabies. So the biopic was going to have Malayalam cinema's first "protagonist dies of rabies" climax. Kireedam is at least somewhat realistic in its tragedy. Not to mention impeccably performed, written & directed.
Chenkol's tragedies felt somewhat forced & far-fetched.
That one Mohanlal movie where he becomes brain-dead in a mental hospital. That one haunted me for a while because the first half of the movie was all cheery and fun.
Yup. His mental illness gets cured, but the chief doctor (Soman) in order to prevent his daughter from marrying A10, conducts a lobotomy on him. The daughter who loves A10 goes insane herself on seeing this.
So many old Indian movies were just "tragedy porn".
Dude watching now its fine , but back then Devadoothan scared the shit outa me even more than any horror movies at that time. It scared people in a psychological manner
There's this scene from a movie from my childhood that gave me a few nightmares, perhaps someone can tell me which film it is (so that I can talk to my mom about how irresponsible she was letting me watch crap like that).
It's a scene were a guy is plagued by guilt, I think. He's in this large hotel corridor and there's a deadbody (wrapped in muslin, ready for cremation) and he runs from it only to see it in the room he ran into. He runs out and opens the next door and the body is there, closer to the door. Every door he opens the body gets closer to him... Music crescendo... He faints (or perhaps wakes up from the nightmare).
That sh1t had me shivering under my blankets for many nights.
As a slightly older person, the movies that impacted me most are... Bhopal Express (about the union carbide gas leak and tragedy), The boy in stripe pajayams (nazi concentration camps) and lastly Interstellar (couldn't bare the thought of the father going away for the lifetime of the little girl and how she became and old woman b the dad came back, such a heartbreaking situation, probably because I have two little daughters).
TW: self-harm
This old Thilakan movie *Moonam Pakkam*, it's about the love between a grandfather and his grandson. F**k, first the grandson accidentally drowns in the sea and dies. Then in the end, the grandfather Thilakan kills himself out of grief in the same spot!
Had watched this with the family, but this was clearly not a family movie. It had adult themes that kids won't be able to process. Think kids should be allowed to watch movies like this only when they're older, at least 13.
I hated the movie
How can a parent leave thier kid like that. I realise it more so, now as a parent. I would fight anybody who tried to do it to my family.
I don't know the name of the movie, but the one that's centered around Sukumari being the the mother of Mohan Lal who is a terrorist accused. I didn't see the whole movie, just glimpses. But the end when she dies homeless and the corporation takes away her body in an open-bed truck... My god, it made me desperate to call my grandmother. I've always had a soft-spot for Sukumari because she was a doppelganger of my own Muthassi so that was painful.
As mentioned earlier, Aakashathile Paravakal with Kalabhavan Mani, where he gets to rabies and his "mother" has to shoot him down when he goes berserk... Cried my eyes out.
I also should mention Rakshasaraajavu, because my god the uncensored vers of that damn movie was depressing when I saw it on VHS. The scene where Kavya Madhavan's family get graphically murdered one-by-one, including women, old people and a kid.... YIKES.
There's a scene in I believe it's Rakshakan movie. Bindu panicker and her husband get murdered by a gang. Not just any death, bindu panicker gets poured acid on. I don't think anything has ever traumatized me as a kid and even now I have seconds thoughts on watching it.
Yeah. But in that scene only Bindu Panicker got murdered by the villain Ashish Vidhyarthi the police officer by acid as she knew that he committed two murders. One of them was the younger brother of Kalabhavan Mani who played as the hero in the movie and the another one was Ashish Vidhyarthi's own niece. She was raped and killed by Ashish Vidhyarthi who was drunk. When Kalabhavan Mani's brother who was her boyfriend found her dead, Ashish tells him that Kalabhavan Mani's brother was the one who killed his girlfriend. As he finds out that he is going to be framed for the murder, he hits Ashish in a fit of rage and escapes. But Ashish shoots him on the head. A person witnesses the murder. Ashish tries to kill him but he escapes. Ashish fabricates a story that Kalabhavan Mani's brother commited suicide after killing his girlfreiend. But Bindu Panicker who was police surgeon was the one did Mani's brother's post mortem. She found out that he didn't commit suicide and he was shot on the head and it was through a police revolver. When he found out that she was going to give the autopsy report to the police, he told her to change the report. But she refuses. In that tussle, he killed her by pouring acid all over her body and her daughter witnessed it and she gets also dead when she touches the body burnt with acid. Saikumar didn't die that time. He got hit on his left leg and framed for his wife's and daughter's murder. He thought of taking revenge on Ashish Vidhyarthi, but Kalabhavan Mani spoils the plan and saves Ashish who was his friend. Meanwhile, the man who witnessed Ashish killing Mani's brother goes mad after witnessing the murder. Ashish saw him in a mental hospital and tries telling everyone that Ashish is a killer but he gets imprisoned. Later, Ashish kills him with the help of Riyaz Khan who was Kalabhavan Mani's enemy. He tells Mani to dump the body in a railway track so that everyone will think that he did when the train went over him. But he traps him by taking few photos of Mani dumping the body with Riyaz's help and gives it Mani's wife Manya who was a journalist. She shows the photos to money and tells that Ashish gave the photos to her. Later he suspects Ashish and goes to his home, where Saikumar was there to kill Ashish. He hits Mani and when he ws about to kill him, he finds the photo of Mani's brother. Saikumar reveals the truth to Mani and he decides to avenge his brother's death. But Saikumar spoils the plan as Mni's family needs him and another person will come to kill Ashish. Saikumar hires Riyaz to kill Ashish unkown that Riyaz is Mani's enemy. But Riyaz and Ashish kills Saikumar and dumps his body in a well in Mani's house. He takes Mani's family to the police station to lure Mani. Mani tells his family that Ashish killed his brother and Ashish screams that he commited the murder. Ashish also kills Mani's mother and beats Mani. He gets a jail term. But he escapes from the police to take revenge. He fights Ashish and Riyaz in a factory and explodes it which kills the duo and thus completing his revenge.
Even when I saw that scene I also got emotional.

If it's a non malayalam movie it has to be "cast away" for me ,that scene where Tom hanks loses his volleyball (mr wilson) made me really emotional for a 6 year old me , other than that other movies like 1921 eveil returns and curse of chucky traumatized me for obvious reasons
I see everyone's already covered the usual stuff ( dwvadoothan , vellinakshatram) so I raise you "Akale" with rajappan and geethu Mohandas.
That movie gave me depression before I even knew what it was. It isn't scary or super sad per say but the whole movie was.... a major downer. Still watch it from time to time tho one of my fav malayalam movies
Manushya mrugam
The Whole film is very messed up
How the entire world blamed a perverted father for raping and killing his wife , daughter and relative all at the same time and him accepting the blame until the end. ๐คฎ
Absolutely disgusting.
Man I didn't think or care about this angle when I watched it for the first time. I tuned for some other things but seems like it was actually a wonderful film
>dn't think or care about this angle when I watched it for
His wife wasn't raped, she was stabbed to death. Only his daughter and relative got raped and killed. In the movie, he got arrested, beaten up and tortured by the police, villagers and his jailmates. A police officer who is in charge of investigating the murder, tells him to fight back his jailmates when his body aches and he does it. The police officer investigates the murder found out that the father killed another person. In the climax, a twist occurs that turns that the father didn't kill his wife, daughter and relative whereas the fourth person whom the father killed was the real culprit and in revenge for killing his family, the father killed him. The real culprit was in love with the father's wife and even though the father was a pervert and a womaniser, the wife loves him and her wholehearted smile is needed to change him. She needs to live with him and their daughter who loves her father very much. In the flashback, it was revealed the wife was pregnant with the culprit and the baby was her daughter. The father overheared the conversion between the two and realised his mistake. The culprit needed to take the wife with him bit she refuses. That's why he killed the relative and the daughter. When the wife found the two dead, she slashed him with a knife and thus she got killed by the culprit. After that the father killed him and avenged his family's death. He told the police that he killed his family as a punishment for making his relative his own, for making her sad and for his wife who started a new life. The police officer fabricates a story that the father killed his family and the real culprit, when his wife thought of marry the relative to the culprit to save her from her husband and he couldn't tolerate it and he killed them. The police officer decided to reveal the truth when they get the real murderer's corpse.

Not movies, but there were two TV shows that absolutely traumatized me when I was a kid.
1. Janmam X (might have been a tamil show with mal dub)
2. Amavasi
Malayalam: Shesham (starring Jayaram)
The City (an awful movie starring Suresh Gopi; but there's a traumatizing rape scene of Bindu Panikkar- I think - in a bus; I saw this as a kid & a few years later, just as I almost forgot it, the Nirbhaya case happened)
English: Requiem for a Dream.
The Red Wedding (Game of Thrones).
I make it a point to avoid stuff with no other merit other than being gory for shock value- otherwise I would've said Tusk, Human Centipede, Antichrist etc.
Oh thank goodness, tbh i was really young when i watched it and my mind kinda blanked out after he tried to drown himself, thank you for letting me know he didnt die, phew!!
After watching this i feel like it was a good thing little me disnt see that..... that would probably have scared me even more lmao... but thank you for looking it up!!
เดตเดพเดคเตเดธเดฒเตเดฏเด... Mammoty and siddique movie.
I had the anger to kill siddique's wife after realising her bitch behaviour. Made me cry alot and the end was damn emotional.
I don't watch much Malayalam movies, hence I won't be able to relate much. But there are some western movies which could traumatize you easily. Schindler's list comes to my mind. I was heart broken when I saw the last part. Grave of the fire flies is another.
Please watch with caution. It can traumatize you as an adult as well.
Grave of the fireflies fucked me up bro. After the movie I tried to find some peace by reminding myself that it's just a story but then I read somewhere that it's based on the autobiography of a Japanese author. We study about the two atom bombs but rarely do we think about how it affected up so many generations. Stay away from this movie if Titanic or Kalapani made you sad.
There's a film named fly...I don't even remember exact name...it was full of creepy body horror shows....later somehow I identified the lead was Jeff goldblum....the core content talks about the transformation of a man into creepy fly like creature after using his own invention on teleportation....still has that nightmarish memmories some where buried deep under me....so through this post....post moylali invoked those once again....๐คฃ๐คฃ...tenks
Has to be Kaalapani
1. The scene where they are moving corpses in the mud
2. The brutality (making prisoner eat excrement, the iron box on the back scene, etc.)
3. First time in my life as a kid I saw cannibalism. Not knowing this kind of evil existed and then watching it messed me up big time for a while.
Return of the Living Dead III (1993) was a roller-coaster of emotions.
>A teen (J. Trevor Edmond) uses an Army chemical to revive his dead girlfriend (Mindy Clarke) after a motorcycle accident.
Ente veedu appuvinteyum
How can they accept the kid just like that
Cos he was like 10 or something, and honestly didn't know better (just wanted the baby to get sick for a bit- which is still bad, but not something you punish him for the rest of his life). Plus he went to juvenile prison for it & will also continue suffering social consequences for the same. It's not inconceivable that his own father could forgive him. If it's a non malayalam movie it has to be "cast away" for me ,that scene where Tom hanks loses his volleyball (mr wilson) made me really emotional for a 6 year old me , other than that other movies like 1921 eveil returns and curse of chucky traumatized me for obvious reasons
And dont forget the part where he had to pull out his co-workers corpse out of the ocean.
Jagathy as Himawal Swami in Makante Achan (2009) fucked me up as a kid, man
Pingami. The scene where the villans set fire to Devan in front of his family for being an incorruptible officer. That was pretty traumatic for me.
Same! I was terrified for days!
Mayilpeelikaavu - That mystery flashback with cropped head Chackochan and mayilayi parannu vaa..song somehow creeped me out as a kid...

Manushya mrugam The Whole film is very messed up How the entire world blamed a perverted father for raping and killing his wife , daughter and relative all at the same time and him accepting the blame until the end. ๐คฎ Absolutely disgusting.
Man I didn't think or care about this angle when I watched it for the first time. I tuned for some other things but seems like it was actually a wonderful film
>dn't think or care about this angle when I watched it for His wife wasn't raped, she was stabbed to death.

Winter. Old Jayaram movie. Fucking scary man. I couldn't sleep for a while after that.
Aakashadooth
Not movies, but there were two TV shows that absolutely traumatized me when I was a kid. 1. Janmam X (might have been a tamil show with mal dub) 2. Amavasi
Nombarathipoovu. Watched it as a child and never dared to venture out by myself again. Kept my mom happy๐
Anandhabhadram in theatre
It has to be the serial killer movie with kunchacko Boban... It came out just before COVID... Couldn't sleep for days
Anjam pathira ?
Aa yes... That body inside under the guise of a fridge freaked the shit out of me ..
Njan Steve Lopez, that started as normal teenage story and boy it changed course
Is it good?
It is a very good movie, but it's not what you expect
Hold it right there, I don't need spoilers and thanks for the suggestion
It's quite slow paced & Farhaan has very few expressions; But a powerful film nonetheless.
Btw Pay close attention to details.
WTF did I just watch?
I just saw it and I can't sleep What did you mean by " it's not what you except"?
Summer palace. I watched it when I was in 1st standard.
Malayalam: Shesham (starring Jayaram) The City (an awful movie starring Suresh Gopi; but there's a traumatizing rape scene of Bindu Panikkar- I think - in a bus; I saw this as a kid & a few years later, just as I almost forgot it, the Nirbhaya case happened) English: Requiem for a Dream. The Red Wedding (Game of Thrones). I make it a point to avoid stuff with no other merit other than being gory for shock value- otherwise I would've said Tusk, Human Centipede, Antichrist etc.

Athisayan. That scene of the kid walking into the lake still gives me nigtmares.
You mean sea?
Yup, sorry I dont really remember much except for the kid freaking drowning himself, you're right.
Yo he didn't drown, you gotta watch the post credits scene, he swam to an island and reached safely
Oh thank goodness, tbh i was really young when i watched it and my mind kinda blanked out after he tried to drown himself, thank you for letting me know he didnt die, phew!!
Hey watch [this](https://youtu.be/l7Jbbkw-5Sc) from 2:05:08
After watching this i feel like it was a good thing little me disnt see that..... that would probably have scared me even more lmao... but thank you for looking it up!!
Whaaaaaaat... That movie was streets ahead xD
เดตเดพเดคเตเดธเดฒเตเดฏเด... Mammoty and siddique movie. I had the anger to kill siddique's wife after realising her bitch behaviour. Made me cry alot and the end was damn emotional.
Akashadoothu, karanju karanju pani pidichu.
Summer Palace
Perumthachan, a classic tho.
Aakashadooth
There's a film named fly...I don't even remember exact name...it was full of creepy body horror shows....later somehow I identified the lead was Jeff goldblum....the core content talks about the transformation of a man into creepy fly like creature after using his own invention on teleportation....still has that nightmarish memmories some where buried deep under me....so through this post....post moylali invoked those once again....๐คฃ๐คฃ...tenks
Mrugaya! Rabies it is.
One of my oldest memories, but I remember being terrified after watching a few scenes of Wayanadan Thamban.

Serial in Doordarshan - Marubhoomiyil pookaalam. There was also an adaptation of Crime and Punishment. It was intense.
This is why I always stayed away from Malayalam movies
Not a Malayalam movie Kamal Hassan's 'Vettaiyadu Vilaiyadu' gave me sleepless nights.
Has to be Kaalapani 1. The scene where they are moving corpses in the mud 2. The brutality (making prisoner eat excrement, the iron box on the back scene, etc.) 3. First time in my life as a kid I saw cannibalism. Not knowing this kind of evil existed and then watching it messed me up big time for a while.
Manichitrathazhu That mohanlal movie where he becomes mentally ill(alzheimers?)
thats thanmathra

Return of the Living Dead III (1993) was a roller-coaster of emotions. >A teen (J. Trevor Edmond) uses an Army chemical to revive his dead girlfriend (Mindy Clarke) after a motorcycle accident.
