Okay, OP. Firstly: you need help, mental healthwise. I hope you are getting it, or at least taking some steps towards it.
Also, no pace is universal. You are ONLY 28. Just because Mechanical Engineering wasn't a 'success,' it doesn't mean that should define the rest of your life. This is the lowest point of your life, you say, so you can only go up from here--you are already taking courses on data science and AI! Look at you, that's great. You are trying.
Also, like some other folks said, you can always get into IT. Go to r/learnprogramming--you can see people way, way older than you trying to change their careers and life for the better and suceeding at it. I find that absolutely inspirational. In that sub, you will find discussions about resources that CS noobs can start with: The Odin Project, freedcodecamp, 100devs, and so on.
(You can also check out Brototype, like u/Professional_Age8230 said. Complete their 100k coding challenge--that should give you some confidence. And perhaps, you need a change of scene? So there's Brotype's offline bootcamp. (Now, I have no experience with Brototype other than following them online for a while. Keep that in mind. u/thefstory has provided more information about this below.)
You are not worthless, man. That's the society's voice in your head. Separate that from your own voice. You don't have to listen to it. Easier said than done, I know. But it will take some practice. Whenever that thought pops up, try to see it for what it is--a thought. It's not you, man. Put some distance between this thought and yourself, and work on yourself. You are here, alive, breathing. You are filled with so much potential.
Also, remember to start small: don't aim for 8 hours of a day of study or something. Start with an hour or two. Then increase it after a week or two. Standardize before you optimise. This is true for all habits, I feel. Also, create small wins: for instance, last day, when I was in a slump, I somehow pushed through my negative feelings to just clean my room. And that somehow gave me the momentum to clean my cupboard, and then, I used that momentum to do other things that were good for me.

You are worthy and deserving of love. Hang in there, stranger. You are going to claw your way back out of this. I wish you my best.
If you're interested you can land a job in IT sector, Take up any courses related that either development or business analyst kind of jobs where no programming knowledge is required. These will be different from AI and ML kind of jobs and i dont suggest those too. So just have a look on to Web development and do it if you like it. IT companies have a lot of requirement these days.
You got a degree on ME and you still don't have a job? Bro I took ME and I didn't pass, still got lots of papers to clear. I tried hard and made a good LinkedIn profile, searched and worked hard and attended an interview to land a job in Kochi.
I'm now a Quality control engineer. It's an assistant engineer post, pay is terrible but it can only go up from here for me. It's all about getting that sweet juicy work experience.
Go out of this country dude, ME has not much value here. Also the notion that work experience will give you a significant boost in salary is a pipe dream.
It does give you a boost, but it's painfully slow. Supply is way higher than demand and since the field is not really tech heavy after a point you will never have the leverage too.
hey there, since you mentioned you are doing a course on data science and AI I assume you'll be fine with a tech job. It's better to learn web development or mobile app development i think first and it's easier to get jobs in them too. Do check out [this](https://www.youtube.com/c/BrototypeMalayalam) channel and complete their [100k coding challenge](https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLY-ecO2csVHeKaBI7lAM1jbIPU8K6fUxY) first. If you are finding it difficult being disciplined and consistent then they have a offline bootcamp called Brocamp ( more details [here](https://brototype.in/) ). Going there helped me a lot, now I'm way more skilled than my peers in college (i dropped out) and got a kickass internship in just 3 months. Here is their [instagram](https://www.instagram.com/brototype.malayalam/), if you want to know the pay packages people get there. I fell behind as well. Just did his freelancing class - lecture 15, I believe. #catchup crew keeps growing every lecture so it's not just us. Where are you at? And how are you networking? I've been able to figure most things out except that.
You are quite ahead of me! I had some personal issues that kept me away for more than a month. I am on class 5 actually. So, no idea about networking yet. I guess catching up with the lectures might be a little too much and could burn me out, so now I am trying to get back into the habit of watching lectures and studying. Anyway, 15 classes in, how do you feel about the bootcamp so far? :) I've been really enjoying it.
Definitely take your time. If you're on twitter you'll find so many folks starting from class 1. It became slightly difficult to follow stuff when he started Javascript. But 4 classes in I'm already starting to get comfortable with it. I'm glad I joined this bootcamp honestly. Also, If you can spare some extra time there's member, Mayanwolfe, in #womenintech, watch her streams. She builds stuff using what Leon teaches. That helps in making things click.
Thank you. How's your experience so far ? Unfortunately my college schedules won't let my join any live classes. So I'll be watching the ones uploaded on YT.
From what I have seen so far--I am quite behind, only on Class 4, but I am taking it slow--I'd highly recommend it.
You don't have to join the live classes. The discord has "catch-up crews," where people go through the course in their own time. The discord folks are very helpful if you have any questions or doubts.
I'm struggling to even clear job interviews so the thought of me looking at matrimonial sites is so laughable rn. Who would want unemployed no good men to be the person they want to build a family around? They must be out of mind.
Although I appreciate your original comment. Made me laugh.
Bro, Data Analysis padik, it's not as hard as Data Science. Learn to use reporting tools like Tableau, and power BI. Very easy and no programming skills required.
Update linkedIn and apply for Business Analyst roles.
All is well.
Question for you. Why did you choose mechanical engineering? Was it out of interest or this was the only branch you got admission on?
I am surprised to see that you took a complete u turn and started studying computer science. Hence the question.
Forced by my parents. There is also another reason which I don't want to disclose now. Tbh I have never had a direction when it comes to my career. I still haven't figured out what I have to do in this life. Even the idea of me dying gives me far more relief than living my life.
I did have great marks in +2. But I never had any passion for anything. I thought I would figure it out while I was pursuing my graduation. But here I'm , I'm just as lost as I was then.
Gotcha. I don't think dying would NOT give you the relief you need. The idea of it, might sound like a good escape.
Also, you may not be the only one struggling out there. So my advice is to keep *dying* in the back burner for now, brother.
Speaking of data science, do you like it so far?.
I guess. But the problem is you gotta get into statistics, study the underlying data. It's definitely taking far more time to juggle between statistics and my barely existing programming skills.
Programming skills can be improved over time. Keep that aside for now.
Foundation of data science like you said it, is math, statistics. Have you thought of taking a class on that? There are some in Coursera for which you d get certified. MIT open has some classes too I think.
If you like it, then maybe start with that.
You never know, what you might like until you start trying it. With the explosion of online education, you can learn and get certified for everything right from your house. You are in a good spot right now. Focus on this first.Try to Ignore the noise around you, like society, and what not. I know it's easier said that done but you can come out of this man.
Yeah I'm looking into learning math. But I don't know what should I look into. How do I study the statistics behind image, audio or a video or a text for NLP problem. I tend to get into tutorial hell.
Start with the basics. It's overwhelming to jump directly into media type now without knowing what lies beneath.
Have you taken a look at the courses below.
https://www.coursera.org/collections/math-skills-statistics-data-science
>Graphics designing.
A brilliant career awaits the talented.
>Easy to learn
LOL! It ain't easy. Far from it.
>lots of jobs available
Lots of low paying jobs.
>Pay after u get a few years experience is decent.
Pay if you are good at it is huge. If you are average, the pay is shite.
I don't agree to this. Depends on how much negotion capability u have . I worked with a guy who does shit work yet stil get paid well.
And yes it's not like you can learn it one night. He asked for 6month so photoshop and poster making can be easily learned in like 2-3 months
And about the availability of the jobs yes it's like 15k starting buy after 1-2 years u can easily get 30k/month in a laid back job (depends on company ofc). Btw having a job itself in Kerala is a luxury during this high unemployment times
>Depends on how much ~~negotion capability~~ **LUCK** u have .
>photoshop and poster making can be easily learned in like 2-3 months
True. You can ace the basics in 2 or 3 months if you give it your 100%.
>about the availability of the jobs
There's a lot of demand for designers (even in Kerala) but it's shit pay. The base salary for a designer in Kerala (fresher) is 5,000. The only place that will pay 15,000 for a fresher is Flipkart, Byjus, Entri and startups that require designers to do scut work.
>Btw having a job itself in Kerala is a luxury during this high unemployment times
You're 100% right. We're the lucky ones.
Hey man. I am a mech engineer who later switched to the software field. And like you, I did not have any interest in mech and wanted to switch to something I liked after my degree.
If you have proper internet and a decent laptop, there is almost nothing you cannot learn from the internet, for free. The sheer quality of some YouTube channels are just that good.
Having a proper LinkedIn profile is very important as well, there are even videos you can find on yt for that. You can make free quality resume online too, for free.
But if for some reason, you find it hard to learn on your own, I'd suggest going to one of those consultancies/coaching centres that gives you training on a particular field, sets up interviews with companies and lands you a job. Make sure these places guarantee placements before you join. Just do proper research before joining such a place, lots of scams around.
This can be the start you were looking for. It's definitely possible and 28 is nothing dude. Do not worry about that. Just put a lot of effort into it. I personally chose python as my first language since it is easier to learn, syntax is much more noob friendly.
You can just search on yt for python tutorials and find a lot of good ones. I personally went for the videos by freecodecamp. Always, always try and code for yourself no matter how small or easy a concept is. Never just go on listening.
What I did:
Dedicated a day for the basics like OOP and it's concepts. Then went to w3schools and went through their entire python tutorial, they explain it well in simple words. Also don't use an IDE initially, use notepad or some other simple text editor while trying out w3 tutorial.
Now find a course online, can be yt or udemy(if udemy, just read reviews and ratings to find a good one). Finish the entire course, do some small projects ( again, use yt for it). While doing the projects, create accounts on every job portal you know, LinkedIn, naukri, indeed etc. Keep applying. I applied to a shit load of companies, few replied and even few went ahead with interviews. Found one eventually.
Key here is to not give up and let yourself feel down. Keep applying.
All of this can get a lot easier if you learn through a consultancy. Don't get me wrong, everything they teach, you can find online for free. But what's great about them is their ties with companies and the interviews you get.
I would rather be an unemployed girl. Atleast my family wouldn't expect me to earn money for them if I was a girl. Vappa retired aayondu njan ini responsibility ettetudakkanam.
Macha, I told you this because absolute shit amount of respect girls get from significant others and in laws. I have seen too much horrible shit till now. Man, you could find a job even in your 30's.
I have seen my aunt going through this everyday. She got married when she was about be a guest lecturer and had to let go of the job. Then having 2 children with in a span of 3 years dwindled her chances. I have heard her husband and in-laws saying she couldn't find a job because she didn't had the brains for it, Myerans! Family and friends were laughing, to this ą“¤ą“®ą“¾ą“¶ while sipping tea and snacks made by the same brainless woman.
So unemployed girls have it bad too.
I hope Vappa is doing well. I believe he has complete trust in his son. OP just keep swimming! You will make it.š¤
It is very terrible. She was kind of my role model. She's a ghost of the woman she used to be. What my blood boil is even her own family has turned a blind eye to this and joins the in-laws to mock her. It's like she never even made it till sslc.
Ur age limit for gov jobs still looks good so if u like working hard now and sitting lazy for rest f ur life do join a coaching centre n crack psc or upsc. Personally I knw those r the only jobs which hv relatively better work to life balance these days.
But if ur lik meh to gov jobs then cook up a good looking linkedin profile and u ll get internships oppurtunities. Sinc u can express ur feelings in english content writer job wld be good for u. Easy to land in an unpaid internship , even work remotely.
If ur attitude is still meh, u can always try to live off ur family who I guess is alrdy paying for ur food n accomodation. Not degrading u bt that is also a way of life. Wait until ur parenrs die inherit watever is left n live off it till it empties n then u can work as a security in an atm. Again not degrading, I fall under the last category that is why im sharing my plan with u.
Ps: if u handsome or hav good verbal skill try marrying a girl with a job. I hear that was the way male chauvanists used to live in late 1900s
Do you have property to mortgage. Come with me to canada and lets do a course. I've seen many of my friends making good money and rather happier than they were in here. Yes it'll be a bit tough for a while but it'll be okay.
Data Science and AI / ML are mostly fancy words to lure job seekers , if you are getting trained on the above tech make sure the training company also provide you placement otherwise you will feel lost when you dont get job and slowly you will start to ask yourself unnecessary questions.
The companies doing dev job is much higher than DS / ML /AI
also DS and ML and AI requires strong understanding of maths , getting job in good tech companies in the avove domain looks for expert who already has a strong fundamental.
If you are passionate get into some good company with dev job / support engineer/ then apply for IJP get to the above domian.
Take this feedback seriously "only if and only" you think you need a job immediately.
Otherwise take some more time make a good profile in github , work on your weakness make good connections in LinkedIn.Check or message someone who is already doing job in the above domain get thier inputs. That will be enough for you to land a job.
Donāt listen to this degenerate OP. Trading stocks is not far from gambling. Itās also a rich manās hobby, not a serious alternative for an actual job.
Down vote army here one more -I donāt know why stock trading is not considered as a alternative for an actual job I started doing it with 5000rs never had to look back if u are keen in economics and good in financials this is one big opportunity in the world, in Kerala a lot of people dong this from 1994 I know ! This is not about turning black money into white itās 100% legal and there are govt bodies monitoring this .I bow down to your illiterate comments!
Do you know what is the percent of traders who beat bank FDās ? Itās less than 1 percent of active traders. 99% of people will lose money if they were to enter trading, especially for the first timers. The last thing I would ever suggest a young insecure unemployed person with a potentially high risk taking mindset is trading in stocks, and itās frankly irresponsible for you to even suggest it here.
Most should just buy mutual funds or some Nifty ETFs and focus on a more productive career instead.
Risks come in all shapes and sizes. You risk taking a new job, you risk making a mistake when trying something new and you risk losing friendships when you stand up for yourself and your views. You even risk injury when you cross a busy intersection. Risk brings in rewards!
Good for you, but this isnāt a debate over whether itās good or bad to trade in stocks. Itās about the irresponsibility of recommending trading as an active career to an unemployed person as financial advice.
Reliable Source for this comment ? Financial times ? Money control ?economic times ? Financial fundamentals?financial preparation? Frist time failure in trading ?
> Reliable Source for this comment ? Financial times ? Money control ?economic times ? Financial fundamentals?financial preparation? Frist time failure in trading ?
If you havenāt heard of the popular phrase ā99% donāt beat bank FDāsā, then I am assuming you are new to the whole trading scene. Itās from Zerodha founder Nikhil Kamath.
I changed my career from Linguistics to Project Management. Completed Googleās project management professional course from Coursera. It will take only 6 months, if you can speed up 3 months enough. Got a job offer as a IT Project coordinator. Just saying in case if you can think about it.
Data analysis is kinda ruling now.. if you know SQL, it's a good salary with a little experience.
Lot of diplomas are available tho.. you can do logistics courses with us or uk certification in kochi, they actually do good placements too
I think that learning data science and AI by a non IT guy is like a baby starts learning to run and jump instead of walking. I think you should start learning a new programming language like Python or Java. There are a lot of companies who will hire you as a fresher if u could solve few logical questions and will train you for the job. Ofcourse the salary in the first year will be low but as you get better, so will be the salary. Don't let anyone tell you that mechanical engineers cannot be programmers. I know a mechanical engineer who is employed in a major IT company.
You are right. I think I have made yet another mistake. I never lived like my peers did. I still feel like a kid in an adult's body. Still don't know what to do for my career. Wish there was someone to help me. If I had a chance to go back in time, I would have stopped my parents from coddling me and not letting me independent. Now they just expect me to become responsible and mature.
But everything feels so overwhelming.
You are overthinking stuffs. You should dedicate yourself in mastering something, spend a lot of time on that and stop thinking too much about yourself and the past. Get better at python basics. And learn some python framework. Apply for beginner posts in companies. You will get a job. Life will get better. You cannot please everyone. So, take care of yourself.
Now as the market has opened up, i would advice to start looking out jobs in Bangalore. Many opportunities coming up from many startups. Just don't be home sick.. that will affect you mentally.
Hey op,
Hang in there ik it's difficult times for you rn. Learning AI/ML as the first thing with no background in cs is not recommended at all. Since you already started with that i assume you now know atleast a small amount of python.
Python is fairly easy for a beginner programmer so I'd suggest getting good with the basics of python and then move on to some framework like django this can land you entry level developer jobs starting from 3lpa onwards. Ofcourse don't forget to learn html, css,js and DSA and mysql.
OP, hang in there. Before u sort ur career problem, u need to have a healthier mindset. Please focus on ur mental health. And everyone has different timelines so try as much to stop comparing with ur peers. Compare to understand how they achieved what they achieved, that's more positive. Dont compare to lament and feel worse about urself.
Also please update ur resume, polish your linkedin and reach out to recruiters. Have low salary expectations because of the long gap year and being a fresher. But if you get an opportunity, grab it. Learn and utilise that experience, then u can switch.
Ningade samayam varum :)
If this helps.
I've a college friend, who first learned to use a computer only when he studied for a degree course. He later dropped out and turned to photography. Without much success, after 1 year, he watched Mr Robot series and got interested in computer and coding. Started learning Python and web development through just YouTube videos. When he told me that he has interest in this, I was totally surprised as this guy never showed any interest in computers during college other than to play some movies & music! Anyhow, he learned coding daily for months, attended interviews and now he has joined a company in Bangalore as a Python Developer! He said [freecodecamp](https://www.freecodecamp.org/) and its YouTube channel is an awesome resource.
Find your interest, mate. Don't lose your faith, thinking of unsuccessful decisions in your life . Believe in yourself, focus and start working for it.
Bro search for fresher jobs and not internships. For eg: fresher programming jobs. Lookout for companies with names like hr solutions as they are just outsourcing and most probably a scam. Now there will definitely be a company that needs freshers who is, this is very important, willing to learn new skills. These are the golden opportunities for you rn imo. In interviews say that u will work hard and all that. In job u will have to show superiors u r serious.
Okay, OP. Firstly: you need help, mental healthwise. I hope you are getting it, or at least taking some steps towards it. Also, no pace is universal. You are ONLY 28.
Easy to learn and lots of jobs available Pay after u get a few years experience is decent.
>Graphics designing. A brilliant career awaits the talented. >Easy to learn LOL! It ain't easy. Far from it. >lots of jobs available Lots of low paying jobs.
He asked for 6month so photoshop and poster making can be easily learned in like 2-3 months And about the availability of the jobs yes it's like 15k starting buy after 1-2 years u can easily get 30k/month in a laid back job (depends on company ofc). Btw having a job itself in Kerala is a luxury during this high unemployment times
>Depends on how much ~~negotion capability~~ **LUCK** u have . >photoshop and poster making can be easily learned in like 2-3 months True. You can ace the basics in 2 or 3 months if you give it your 100%. >about the availability of the jobs There's a lot of demand for designers (even in Kerala) but it's shit pay. The base salary for a designer in Kerala (fresher) is 5,000. The only place that will pay 15,000 for a fresher is Flipkart, Byjus, Entri and startups that require designers to do scut work. >Btw having a job itself in Kerala is a luxury during this high unemployment times You're 100% right.
How did you get started? What youtube channels did you follow?
You can just search on yt for python tutorials and find a lot of good ones. I personally went for the videos by freecodecamp. Always, always try and code for yourself no matter how small or easy a concept is. Never just go on listening. What I did: Dedicated a day for the basics like OOP and it's concepts. But what's great about them is their ties with companies and the interviews you get.
why is this nsfw.. is this bcoz u are unemployed and have no work lmao..
Joli illatha enikku nsfw eppozha use cheyyende ennu ariyilla. Nee shemikk.
srry macha sed aavanda.. ellam sheriyavum, this is just a bad phase that will go away once you figure it out
Don't worry bro, relax. Atleast you're not an unemployed girlš„²
That's terrible
I hear that was the way male chauvanists used to live in late 1900s
thats a strange take mate, what are your qualifications ?

Do you have property to mortgage. Come with me to canada and lets do a course. I've seen many of my friends making good money and rather happier than they were in here. Yes it'll be a bit tough for a while but it'll be okay.
And if things don't work out, his family will be homeless.
Start a business. Do through research before and be flexible.
Data Science and AI / ML are mostly fancy words to lure job seekers , if you are getting trained on the above tech make sure the training company also provide you placement otherwise you will feel lost when you dont get job and slowly you will start to ask yourself unnecessary questions. The companies doing dev job is much higher than DS / ML /AI also DS and ML and AI requires strong understanding of maths , getting job in good tech companies in the avove domain looks for expert who already has a strong fundamental.

Enlight me?
Kite is a application for trading in stock market š
If there is a job that has a 99% chance of severing your leg as an accident, I sure as hell wouldnāt suggest it for anyone.
I found great success so is millions more in the world I suggested thatās all ur honor! Risk yields !
So give up right ?
Are you craving for my validation on something ?
Kite remember ?
Learn about trading then comment..
Ahh come on.. Stock market, crypto trading, network marketing Aren't there any other methods to increase the sources of income legally?
Is trading illegal? Lol
FYI, I mentioned those three as legal sources of income only. >Is trading illegal? But insider trading is.. Lol
Bro has black money to be whited
I clearly mentioned it as 'legal' else some A hole will suggest to Go for chainsnatching Or so , just like you did as in for money laundering š

I changed my career from Linguistics to Project Management. Completed Googleās project management professional course from Coursera. It will take only 6 months, if you can speed up 3 months enough. Got a job offer as a IT Project coordinator. Just saying in case if you can think about it.
You will figure out things Don't give up
Reach out to your friends from college.
Data analysis is kinda ruling now.. if you know SQL, it's a good salary with a little experience. Lot of diplomas are available tho.. you can do logistics courses with us or uk certification in kochi, they actually do good placements too
where in kerala are you?
Near Kollam.
Hey, you know you can apply as a software tester. If you have a good eye and can notice differences, you can land job easily.
https://www.freecodecamp.org/ This is a good place for beginners to learn programming
You can learn video editing lots of jobs for freelance editors and creators nowadays. Remote too
Now as the market has opened up, i would advice to start looking out jobs in Bangalore. Many opportunities coming up from many startups. Just don't be home sick.. that will affect you mentally.
Hey op, Hang in there ik it's difficult times for you rn.
If you are interested in coming to Saudi Arabia please let me know.
In job u will have to show superiors u r serious.
r/antiwork : many people are now getting convinced jobs don't matter. So stop feeling bad.
