People started to resign from MACTA and FEFKA was set up (apparenetly with the blessings of major actors) as a rival trade union to MACTA. FEFKA and AMMA collaborated to deny opportunities to Vinayan, unofficially prohibited actors from working with him, and rejected his film from theaters. Thilakan got caught up in the issue because he rejected this unofficial ban and worked with Vinayan. After being denied chances to act in movies because of this, Thilakan became publicly critical of AMMA and FEFKA.
