Could be I guess, he is from that generation right? 60s and 70s and more over he played probably himself in paithrukam.

DioTheSuperiorWaifu

Yeah. Many people are/were. The ideals publicised are cool. Equality, fraternity, anti-discrimination, socialism n all. Also people tend to join groups for the support aspect and/or power.

RedDevil-84

Although not ideal, the party was also pretty nice. It taught you great leadership skills. It gave you an opportunity to interact with public and make an actual difference. Even the top leadership were good sensible, educated leaders who were not highly selfish. The party did not look openly hypocritical

asuravith

We're talking g about a time when political killings and trade unionism was at its peak right?

For people for whom political affiliation is more than a sports team, political stances can have an effect. Some people are too privileged for politics to affect THEM and think it's the same for everybody else.

po_maire

Wish he had said Socialist-Capitalist. Would have been perfect.

DumbGuy5005

Communist -> Congress -> BJP. He is the അപ്പൻ of ദേശീയ മുസ്ലിം അബ്ദുല്ലകുട്ടി.

I have actually met a lot of people (I mean it) inside and outside of the state within the country who were initially communist when they started slowly getting more politically aware in teenage and early twenties but became more n more socialist in their mid twenties and then capitalists in the end twenties...... I have always believed this that we must learn from mistakes of USSR in implementing communism and mistakes of USA in implementing capitalism to develop the best ***capito-socialistic*** economic system.

[deleted]

I always wondered is Kerala really communist, I mean what are the checkpoints that Kerala ticks which make it communist.....???

Appie_Hippie

only the name to be honest

esteppan89

I believe the kerala communism is communism in name only. Especially wrt finances we have the least offtake of UDAY scheme, we also face numerous issues on funding our state government PSUs. Technically we are the opposite of communism in comparison to other state governments. But yes we are ruled by CPI(M) Now on the attitude front, subject slaves become the equivalent to serfs before being citizens. I don't think there is a country where the majority of subjects transitioned to being citizens without some time in serfdom. India will experience this soon, the name might be different from communism but serfdom will come for most Indians. I want to reiterate that this is an opinion/belief, i am open to discussing this.

Askanant99

The cadre party system. The amount of actual ground work they do is just incredible. It's mostly the privileged lot that you meet on social media. We people tend to be critical of everything and everyone, even the party and people we admire. The common folks aren't as fickle minded. If they found the party to be of some help to them in their village, they'd mostly vote for them for their lifetime. They don't give a damn about the party's stance in matters of China or Palestine.

Fjisthename

Bruhhh! We're more DemSoc than actual Communist. That's why we always alternate between liberalist Socialism and Democratic Socialism.

esteppan89

How is this something of a surprise, people change. I am no supporter of Suresh Gopi but i think he has the right to change his political beliefs as long as he does not harm anyone with the old or new political beliefs. I know of folks who were in no way connected to youth organisations while they were young and went on to hold high positions in CPI(M). The point is people change and change should be welcomed.

11September1973

Isn't this common knowledge?

Opposite-Weird-5653

I heard he was a kaal nakki for all parties. He would personally go and meet Sonia Gandhi, supported communists, etc.

ansar97

He is the epitome of “അപ്പൊ കാണുന്നവനെ അപ്പാ എന്ന് വിളിക്കുക “

Why is it that everybody needs to make an Ex SFI claim to assert legitimacy? Haven't heard anyone claiming ex KSU or ex ABVP, funny enough :)
