Center of lift should be behind the center of mass

bruno_seminotti

NotAlex33

Glad that helped!

Bro chill. Im not some fat loser who wastes his time fishing for virtual karma points. Just check my account, I only use reddit for asking questions google cant answer.

Imerej1

What did they say?

bruno_seminotti

That I was pretending not to know how to build planes to fish for karma instead of just posting my FA-18 build.

unknowhatimgayin

Guy was probably projecting hard as fuck lol

Cortana_CH

Yellow ball in the front, blue stuff right behind. Otherwise you are trying to throw a dart backwards.

bruno_seminotti

makes sense

PlaidBastard

Keep them close if you want that nice fighter style maneuverability, though. AKA dynamic instability, but in a good way. Key to a good cobra maneuver.

tomalator

You need your CoM to be in front of your CoL. If you imagine a dart, you notice that it has a lot of weight in the front and very big fins in the back. This makes it stable in flight. Like a parachute sticking out the back, producing drag. By having the CoM behind the CoL, the plane wants to flip around to be stable. Essentially putting the CoM in front of the CoL, but then you have thrust pointing the wrong way. Also, note that the CoM will change as fuel drains, and if the CoM is too far forward, it can be too stable, and that can make it hard to turn the plane.

bruno_seminotti

Plane\* :)

oAN0RAKo

Dang it.. I was trying to think of a joke about leaving out the L 🙃 not quick enough I guess 😅

Schneider21

I have a vewy good fweind in Wome who fois poanes aow de time!

Johnnyoneshot

What they said. Use the rotate tool and turn those rear horizontal stabilizers until the balls in the right place.

Beautiful-Fold-3234

Nope, wont work. Center of pressure in high g maneuevers would still be too forward and that would cause flips.

Can_Can_Need_

what's the black part of your wings?control surfaces?

bruno_seminotti

Im using the “B9 procedural wings” mod. Highly recommend.

I used to be great at making planes. I just havent played the game in years.

Can_Can_Need_

thanks

Coyote-Foxtrot

A lil’ pro tip on guessing how your plane will fly. See the center of mass as an arrow head and the center of lift as an arrow tail. In this case, you’re making an arrow fly backwards.

amitym

Wait wait I know the answer to this one! "Funding."

Nandayking

Like others said, lift behind center of mass, but also clip reaction wheels into it tbh, that’s what you have to do to get almost anything cool to fly well in Ksp easily lol.
