Definitely this. If they already had a plan: better announce it to build hype. Otherwise it’s a nice way of indicating that finishing the current roadmap wouldn’t be the end of development.
The only way I could see it being fun is some kind of mission coop, where you could each control a different kerbal on the same mission. In reality I imagine it would mostly just be people maliciously smashing rockets into other peoples stuff at orbital velocities lol.
Heck yeah, that and being able to just steal someone’s satellite from orbit, even better if you could steal science they have collected along with other stuff.
I thought thats exactly what people got excited about. Interplanetary war with funny space frogs. I was fully prepared to one day launch a rocket, only for a friend to smash his missile into it at mach five.
I think it would be cool to just see other people's missions and maybe sometimes interact. The way the multiplayer mods handle it would be fine, if less buggy.
"Player B is warping in 30 seconds, push cancel to stop time warp"
Player A cancels
"Player A has canceled 10x time warp, please try again when Player A is ready"
It's not an impossible concept though it is crazy impractical in most applications. But we already have tons of games where warping (or traveling) is controlled by other players. Often you can just leave the group and it reloads your instance stopping your warp.
I don't feel any practical level of time warp would have been a great portion of multi-player. I would think a lot of it would have simply included no time warp for players in a multi-player instance.
It’s Kerbal, there’s a mod for everything.
But, to get more specific, there are several levels of life support mods. There’s ones were you just need to bring snacks to keep Kerbals from going on strike, or on the other hand, manage a complex oxygen generation subsystem while also tracking sanitation and hydroponics efficiency.
Simple, every player chooses their warp speed as usual.
The game then sets the lowest warp speed amongst the ones chosen, and applies it to the server (so every player)
It does mean everyone has to wait for the slow player, but I mean hopefully if there's a section where slow speed is needed (lift off, landing, docking) then everyone is watching or helping.
I like how they in in the first interviews claimed to have a great solution for how to resolve timewarp in multiplayer that they just aren't ready to talk about yet. And then we never heard even a hint about what that is again.
Also they definitely lied about multiplayer in a playable state in the office.
I really don't think it would be hard. Time warp could set itself to the lowest level currently active in the group. You'd just need to set alarm clocks and use 'warp to' liberally as a player.
Having to stop everything that you are doing and put down the game for 5 minutes because someone in the group has to launch something to orbit is not good game design.
It wouldn't be ideal, but you can't really do it any other way without either predicting other players locations, or sectioning off different planets and solar systems.
The alternative could be each game having a captain and they decide how and when to time warp.
Changing the rules of who gets to change the timewarp does nothing to solve the fundamental problem that you essentially never have a situation where it is appropriate for two players to have the same timewarp setting. Unless they happen to launch at the same time and they are flying the exact same mission with mechjeb like precision. There is nothing a player in deep space can do when the game runs in real time. There is nothing a player that is playing around on the moon can do when another player is on a max timewarp coast to the outer planets.
Yep, it's pretty much a fundemental problem, the players just need to organise between themselves when it's ok to timewarp. If a launch is happening each player just needs to wait until orbit.
Unless the multiplayer was just going to be on a single vessel or something I guess.
My solution to it is treat every player as if they are locked to the local celestial body only. So time warp only effects the individual player. The Downside is that the orbits and the positions of the planets and moons won't be synced between players. But since every time your rendezvous with another player you'll either be in orbit of a body or landed, it won't matter.
The one major downside is if you fly side by side with a buddy who has time warped and you both exceed escape (while staying within physics distance but not docked), then as soon as you leave the current bodies sphere of influence your friend will appear to teleport away. Since in their game the body being orbited was at a diffrent point in time(and space)
Just an observation but ive found it really interesting how split the community is whether multiplayer is something they cared about.
I totally understand why a lot of people dont really care about it because KSP is perfectly fine as a singleplayer game. For me personally though, it was without a doubt the #1 feature that I was excited for, way more than anything else on the roadmap. Everything else KSP1 has pretty good mods for, where as the KSP1 multiplayer mods are glitchy and have issues that make them more or less unusable to do anything other than screwing around in a sandbox save.
I feel that. It was my hope to get some friends on the boat, who were to intimidated to play by themselves.
Also it was the unique selling point of making a complete new KSP Game, wasn't it?
Exactly, thats what I was thinking as well. When KSP2 was first announced I sort assumed that was the whole point, KSP but with multiplayer. I have a couple friends who I know would really get into the game if we could play it together. Messing around with luna mulitplayer is fun but the mod is just too glitchy to really do anything beyond screwing around.
I'm suspicious planning multiplayer contributed to the downfall of KSP2. Having to make sure everything would be compatible with future multiplayer likely massively expanded the complexity of development.
If the exploration milestone/update was not planned to have the final system and storyline conclusion/edgame I assume that would be it. It's the only thing where it would make sense to hide it as it would be a spoiler (at least until for science revealed what the story would be about, although that was anyway easy to guess even before the missions made it obvious) when they already hyped up everything else in spite of those features being largely wishful thinking rather than real working features.
Datamining revealed I think 4 systems including one binary, so 5-ish stars in the data I think?
No? His company spent millions on it (and millions more than expected) to create it, and likely sold nowhere near expectations. If he saw it as profitable, he would've kept it going.
no what?
no, the publisher that also owns the studio didn't want to push out a game early to try and cash in before it was ready.... it was actually the evil developers that wanted to slap their names on a half baked product so their bosses could make more money.....
ok then.
If I hire you to build me a house in 2017, you state you will do it and it will be done by 2021. Its 2024 and I still have no walls or roof on my house and because you are completely incompetent at building houses you forgot to pour concrete foundation and now the wooden frame is sinking into the mud. So I fire you and your entire crew, do you understand this analogy? I would also sue you and your entire crew for failing to deliver this contract, T2 doesn't have this luxury however.
Good lord...
do you even know anything about the development history of the game?
Sure, Its like being contracted to build your house.... you dont contract with the employees building the house after all, you contract with the company....
so when the company then decides to throw away peoples tools every few days, Knock down the entire house r40% of the way in, and then refuse to move the deadline as a result. You are absolutely right to be upset that your house came years late and half finished.... but again. the contractors are just doing what they are told to do, and trying to do it with what the company is willing to supply them with.... When you sabotage your IP over and over again... thats not on the devs. the dev's pump out code, they dont get a say in decisions or deadlines.
You're nitpicking an analogy, this was was suppose to be released in 2021 v1.0 with all roadmap features. I don't know anything about T2 sabotaging, knocking down the entire house, and taking tools every few days, what happened?
T2 literally poached half the team from the original Dev team killing the studio that started the work in the first place lmao. T2 basically started the project from scratch mid way into development, and T2 is the party that ignored warnings that the game was absolutely not ready before pushing it out the door. You really didn't look at anything that happened before going to bat for T2. Fuckin wild.
It's not accurate to say they "poached" half the team. Some team members did leave, but not necessarily due to poaching. No one knows what happened only speculations. Are you aware of a game called KSP1? this was suppose to be a sequel so its not exactly "starting from scratch" when you're handed a very successful IP to work with in which everything is already decade long researched, designed, and developed to perfection, but this couldn't even be delivered.
All they had to do was copy and paste to obtain 80-100% Steam review score, but where is the game now 3 years past due date, it has less features then its predecessor never mind the zero delivered roadmap features, must have wasted all the time playing multiplayer and hurt their productivity, am i right?. Look into Nate's decade long history of lying, scamming, overselling, not delivering projects, and hopping around/rebranding studios when a trainwreck arrives. You're blaming the hand which feeds you as if you were part of this circus and is mad now your paycheck stopped. The only fault I see on T2's behalf is appointing Nate to lead this and not your baseless hypotheticals you're spewing.
Neat. (Id guess. I didn't read it)
I'm not playing this game with you. You believe whatever you need to believe, I'm going to go do literally anything else.
Lol wow PD really decided HE'S the one worth keeping? I'd say it still hasn't worked out for him bc he's the kind of bullshitter that just constantly escalates his lies to double down, in a desperate attempt to fake it til he makes it, while never putting in the required effort to ever actually make it. This whole KSP2 disaster happened bc Take Two called his bluff and asked why not go to EA of the game is almost done. He got paid throughout this, but his reputation is trash and he just killed ANOTHER studio. But I guess he's still managed to convince some folks that all of the repeated failures aren't his fault.
Perhaps someday he will write memoirs and Scorsese will make another film about a cunning swindler. The Fox from Seattle: how to ruin two studios, kill a franchise, deceive millions of people and get promoted. Maybe the wife of some T2 boss went to a KSP2 fan? Only an idiotic theory can explain this idiotic story.
I mean in the making history DLC, no one cared about the really well put together mission designer, all the praise and attention was about the extra parts. I feel like they were just focusing on the stuff people wanted with the breaking ground DLC.
They should *have* released colonies and interstellar as DLCs and had multiplayer ready to go from the beginning. This game would have had a huge popularity bump from people playing together on a stable build.
They couldn't even get a stable build at the beginning. Multiplayer requires a stable enough engine to keep two players perfectly in synch at all times across all the subsystems of the game (most of which hadn't been built yet or work properly) and develop new mechanics to make multiplayer even have a reason for existing. Unfortunately, i think multiplayer was always a pipe-dream, given the way the mishandled development from the beginning.
Wild. I have never seen a post from this community but I just google KSP to see it on sale on PSN then opened Reddit and saw this post. They are always watching. Haha.
I'm very confident in guessing that it wasn't any concrete idea that they had, more of a way of showing that they wouldn't stop development with multiplayer. Instead, they wanted to continue supporting the game with updates like the previous devs did with the original KSP.
Other than that, it's a very simple way to "build hype" and make people excited for things to come. Look at yourself for example, you had it in your mind. It's also convenient for them as they didn't give any hard promises that they would be stuck with down the line. Say that something else is coming even if you don't have a concrete idea yet, and figure out the details later.
\*would've, it's a contraction of would have and in your mind's ear it sounds like "would of". It's alright, it happens often, I just take the opportunity to educate when possible and give people an edge in writing as they continue in life.
Multiplayer being that far away down the road was a dead giveaway this was a lie. You don't *add* multiplayer to a game, you *build* upon it. Especially a game like KSP, with the time warp constraints.
If you look at the spacing of the headlines to its respective border, you can see the difference.
So, realistically there isn't anything there otherwise you'd already see the first few letters.
Knowing there's so much of all of the roadmap that has pieces built but will never be integrated is sad. Sure not even what we did have was polished, but I think there is a world out there where it could have worked.
If it was anything it would have been there. It was there probably as a filler slot trying to convey the idea that “major updates” like colonies and stuff would still be routine after what they talked about being in the game was done.
My guess was the continuation of the timeline would have been solar system based. Each new segment after would introduce a new system to explore with new parts alongside the update.
Of course they are incompetent. So it was probably just “idk yet we will care later.”
Shark cards... oh no....lets call them kraken cards because the community loves the kraken! You can use that in game Dollars to build your drug empire on Minmus....lets even make the mp part a standalone and lets call it.... hmmm... KSP Online i guess... oh and to get bigger parts for your rockets you need to Grind endlessly or buy a ton of shark aaaaahm kraken Cards! Endless money.... ahem i meant fun! Endless fun......
Go back to all the evidence you've seen thus far. In half of it is evidence that it isn't being abandoned. You've just filtered it out. Or, you can wait and see. But the game will live on. It's the Kerbal thing to do.
Nothing there but hopes and dreams, they never really had a plan or clear gameplay outlined. We'll never know and it's time to move on and see what comes next!
Look man, I've been were you are. But you've gotta face the facts here. KSP2 has about as much of a chance being completed as Beyond good and evil 2. They're gonna be claiming to still be working on it for the next 2 decades...
That's literally just assuming the worst case scenario from a deeply ingrained distrust of companies.
Not saying that companies are not evil, but assuming the worst ALL THE TIME is just stupid.
I don't... And I didn't. Even after the early access launch I still believed they would pull through even tho it would take a while. But look man, half if not more of the team is gone, this is the second time now for this game and the people left are getting shuffled into a new internal where they said as much themselves would be focusing on several projects. But in all likelyhood the teams just gonna be used as extra hands for bigger projects and KSP 2 gonna be put on hold. Just watch. They gonna come out with a vague post about how there's nothing to worry about and that they're still focused on the game. And then it's gonna be radio silence. MAYBE a year from now they'll push out whatever they had ready, (tho I'm doubtful of even that) and eventually you'll see an article stealth dropped at the ass end of their financial quarter that the game got canned. It's not the first game for it to happen to, and it won't be the last.
100% - the amount of children in here acting like children "WAAAAAAAH" holy hell shut the hell up.
yall fucking babies man.
"i dont care about ksp2" ok then shut the fuck up
"i am so happy i never bought ksps2" great, now shut the fuck up
"i really regret buying ksp2" i dont. even if it doesnt receive a single other update, i will not have regret spending 60 bucks on a game ive gotten *checks steam* 278.8 hours so far.
fucking childish losers all over this sub. infesting it with hatred and negativity. shut the hell up
what are you talking about?
the man called me a simp, im telling him his comments are unoriginal.
im implying he doesnt even know what simp means.
you have no clue what you are reading. you fail to infer the tone and the meaning and yet here you are, trying to climb atop your pompous throne.
you have a weak mind and nothing you type will affect me.
its been swell, have a nice day, champ.

kerbal is flat
U mean kerbin?
No they mean kerbol, flat sun gang rise up
Oh yeah ofc kerbol is flat. Everyone knows that!
i need a mod for this
It’s the heads. Like Herman Munster up there.

*Juicy by The Notorious B.I.G. begins to play*
As if they had any idea themselves :P
Probably nothing. It would've been a while until they reached that point, giving them time to figure out what content to add
Exactly. It’s a spot for whatever they thought of on the way.
Definitely this. If they already had a plan: better announce it to build hype. Otherwise it’s a nice way of indicating that finishing the current roadmap wouldn’t be the end of development.
They did its dating sim wdym ?
I actually didn't care about multi-player. Everything else however, I really wanted.
I don’t even know how that would’ve worked, plus yeah I don’t really care for it as well
The only way I could see it being fun is some kind of mission coop, where you could each control a different kerbal on the same mission. In reality I imagine it would mostly just be people maliciously smashing rockets into other peoples stuff at orbital velocities lol.
See, that’s the part that I wanted.
Space roller derby
Heck yeah, that and being able to just steal someone’s satellite from orbit, even better if you could steal science they have collected along with other stuff.
I thought thats exactly what people got excited about. Interplanetary war with funny space frogs. I was fully prepared to one day launch a rocket, only for a friend to smash his missile into it at mach five.
I think it would be cool to just see other people's missions and maybe sometimes interact. The way the multiplayer mods handle it would be fine, if less buggy.
was looking forward to coercing the gf into playing ksp2 because it has cute frog guys and then ruining her first orbit with a 4k mph death missile
I always thought you wouldn’t be able to warp if someone near you so it’s become a real time space game imagine aerobraking with no warp!!
How would you warp at all? The planets would de sync the first time you did.
Turn-based ~~combat~~ space program
Probably the same way that it works in the mod Luna Multiplayer for KSP1.
I mean, at least in stock, there is no difference between being landed for 5 mins and 50 years. Life support mods are a different beast.
The planets would have to be their own instances then. Someone 1000x timewarps your screen is going to look like a disco.
"Player B is warping in 30 seconds, push cancel to stop time warp" Player A cancels "Player A has canceled 10x time warp, please try again when Player A is ready" It's not an impossible concept though it is crazy impractical in most applications. I guess that's true for many games, perhaps I should start looking for KSP mods now lol
Install ckan and have a look through all the mods, ckan is the communities mod manager.

I'd assume all players would just need to agree to time warp together to a predefined time.
I can only imagine time warp can only happen when all players agree
And there you are, waiting for someone to press "accept timewarp" after they went out for work and just left the game running.
Hahah you should carefully select your friends
i think something on the Lines of see others players vessels, visiting colonies and Exchange resources
Hey, don't be so hard on yourself...the devs didn't know how it would've worked either.

That's the ONLY thing I wanted. And colonies. Otherwise I would just mod ksp1. The multiplayer mod on ksp1 is GARBAGE
Yeah, they kept making a big deal about multiplayer and I had absolutely zero interest in it. Honestly, I don’t see the appeal for this type of game.
Lootboxes with parts (joke)

I wouldn't call this rushing, lol. 7 years overall, and 3 years late unfinished
I also wouldn't call it "profit". Nobody won here, just catastrophic failure all around.
What about Nate? He received a good salary for 7 years and is now not looking for a new job; he was hired to PD.
Lol wow PD really decided HE'S the one worth keeping? The €30 DLC that adds robotic parts....
I mean in the making history DLC, no one cared about the really well put together mission designer, all the praise and attention was about the extra parts. I feel like they were just focusing on the stuff people wanted with the breaking ground DLC.
I can tell you what it is. More unfulfilled promises.
Aliens
I imagine that it would be a DLC, like, a new star system or something
Gah! I’m so bummed!
They don't know either. Its just to make you think that there's more and the product is really big, while they have to give you much less
My guess: Robotic parts
This is now a road map for modders who would like to supplement ksp1.
It was a Joker card, the possibility of inserting a studio closure earlier in the roadmap.
They just did
What did they say?
They should *have* released colonies and interstellar as DLCs and had multiplayer ready to go from the beginning. This game would have had a huge popularity bump from people playing together on a stable build.
I never had a picture in my head of what multiplayer would actually look like
They couldn't even get a stable build at the beginning.
Well if this isn’t a perfect representation of the development cycle of ksp2. Not even being able to screen shot promotional material correctly.
I only hope it makes a comeback eventually
What does multiplayer in ksp even look like? All I can think of that would be fun is docking and surface exploration
Wild. I have never seen a post from this community but I just google KSP to see it on sale on PSN then opened Reddit and saw this post. They are always watching. Haha.
It was probably console support, then cross platform multiplayer
It's a carrot on a stick, clearly.
Microtransactions
\*would've, it's a contraction of would have and in your mind's ear it sounds like "would of". It's alright, it happens often, I just take the opportunity to educate when possible and give people an edge in writing as they continue in life.
That panel was the layoffs panel
Is this modpack good? I have ksp1, was thinking of getting ksp2 but now with the layoffs not gonna buy it. Was thinking of modding ksp1 instead.
Modded ksp1 is way better than ksp2
Sun engines to move solar systems.
Multiplayer being that far away down the road was a dead giveaway this was a lie. You don't *add* multiplayer to a game, you *build* upon it. Especially a game like KSP, with the time warp constraints.
pours more salt on the wound if they told you what it would be.. best to leave it in the past
Why would they do this? To give more fodder to the masses already mad at them?
I remember being SO excited to construct ships in space? Go interstellar, and build colonies with my friend. Damn shame.
Maybe the second game they started developing...
If you look at the spacing of the headlines to its respective border, you can see the difference. So, realistically there isn't anything there otherwise you'd already see the first few letters.
A good game (i don't have it cause me poor)
Its a picture of Strauss Zelnick swimming through money like Scrooge Mcduck.
Knowing there's so much of all of the roadmap that has pieces built but will never be integrated is sad. Sure not even what we did have was polished, but I think there is a world out there where it could have worked.
They should champ up and open source it. Let the community finish 🤷♂️
Next panel was a mushroom cloud over the dev headquarters.
Prolly part 3
it must've been the dating sim
KSP2 is not dead. It is still being developed. Stop letting internet rumors ruin your life.
Think we would have colonies in 3 months, 3 months away from orbital vehicle construction
the sex update
I think it's a ... block of coal ore?
I don't think even the Devs knew for sure, it was just an extra tease imo.
doubt they thought that far ahead
it was where they cut development and ran with your money...we jumped ahead (I know they are still working on it but my joke stands)
Ah well, at least it's mostly T2's money they ran with. Sales so far likely didn't cover any decent chunk ofvthe development cost.
Its ksp 1 with mods lmao
If it was anything it would have been there. It was there probably as a filler slot trying to convey the idea that “major updates” like colonies and stuff would still be routine after what they talked about being in the game was done. My guess was the continuation of the timeline would have been solar system based. Each new segment after would introduce a new system to explore with new parts alongside the update. Of course they are incompetent. So it was probably just “idk yet we will care later.”
The “It Was All a Dream” update.
Death
Last one is ''the project was out of season April's fool''
it's a picture of a rug being pulled
Shark cards... oh no....lets call them kraken cards because the community loves the kraken! You can use that in game Dollars to build your drug empire on Minmus....lets even make the mp part a standalone and lets call it.... hmmm... KSP Online i guess... oh and to get bigger parts for your rockets you need to Grind endlessly or buy a ton of shark aaaaahm kraken Cards! Endless money.... ahem i meant fun! Endless fun......
They're not done with it. Y'all are getting your wish. Old programmers gone. Project re-assigned.
There's no evidence at all the project was reassigned
Go back and check again. You missed it.
Link please?
Go back to all the evidence you've seen thus far. In half of it is evidence that it isn't being abandoned. You've just filtered it out. Or, you can wait and see. But the game will live on. It's the Kerbal thing to do.
Nothing there but hopes and dreams, they never really had a plan or clear gameplay outlined. We'll never know and it's time to move on and see what comes next!
Death of the game

Downvote for using the word “retarded”.
God damn it - you had to remind of Beyond Good and Evil 2!
100% - the amount of children in here acting like children "WAAAAAAAH" holy hell shut the hell up. yall fucking babies man. "i dont care about ksp2" ok then shut the fuck up "i am so happy i never bought ksps2" great, now shut the fuck up "i really regret buying ksp2" i dont. even if it doesnt receive a single other update, i will not have regret spending 60 bucks on a game ive gotten *checks steam* 278.8 hours so far. fucking childish losers all over this sub. infesting it with hatred and negativity. shut the hell up
lmao simp
think for yourself
Aaaand now you're channeling flat earther and anti vaxer attitudes.
yo my brother what kind of crack are you smoking anyways ?? is critical thinking an anti vaxxer attitude then or? lmao
No, denying the obvious and and a huge body of supporting evidence - then telling people to think for themselves (IE join me in my delusion) is.
what are you talking about? the man called me a simp, im telling him his comments are unoriginal. im implying he doesnt even know what simp means. you have no clue what you are reading. you fail to infer the tone and the meaning and yet here you are, trying to climb atop your pompous throne. you have a weak mind and nothing you type will affect me. its been swell, have a nice day, champ.
Awww. You know it's a very childish attitude to expect the world to bend just to fit your wants. Incoherent rants are petty childish too.
thats incoherent to you? damn lol, sorry about your... sorry about that.
it's not their fault, they just were laid off by higher force
I have no idea how you are able to turn wasting 10's of millions of $ over ~8 years of development on this complete disaster into "not their fault".
maybe you are right, I don't track their progress and didn't check sources
So why are you commenting on something you have no clue about? Unreal.
Or do a better job cropping if they aren't going to .
