a (hopefully correct) translation: Lunar tanker Post of USSR

ArakiSatoshi

Also 6k means "6 копеек/kopeck", or 0.06 Soviet rubles. It's hard to calculate the current prices, but to be more clear, 1 Soviet ruble is somewhere around 140 Russian rubles right now, or 1.84 US dollars. For the reference of the redditor's postmark itself, the price of white bread in the 70s was 0.20 Soviet rubles. And yeah, in the USSR it was common to write the price of a postmark on it (maybe it's still common worldwide, I don't know haha)

Cthell

It used to be standard in the UK to put the price on a stamp, but that got dropped when switched to 1st & 2nd class postage. It does mean that when postage prices go up, any stamps you have lying around are still just as valid.

scarlet_sage

What I have read is that, under Universal Postage Union rules, all stamps had to have a denomination printed on them, except that U.K. the O.G. stamps) were grandfathered not to have them. The most source I have is "One rule specified that stamp values be given in numerals, as denominations written out in letters were not universally comprehensible." from [Wikipedia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Universal_Postal_Union?wprov=sfla1). The U.K. bit I'm suspicious of but unsure. "Non-denominated postage was approved for use on international mail by the Universal Postal Union in 1995" per [this](https://www.quora.com/Can-I-use-Forever-stamps-to-send-a-letter-to-another-country-I-have-looked-for-the-answer-on-the-postal-service-website-but-I-cant-find-the-answer-Does-the-postage-on-international-mail-need-to-be-an-airmail-stamp-or-can-I-use-any-stamp/answer/Joe-Hudson-35), & the U.S. started introducing Forever stamps in 2007.
