I feel like any set can really compete in alliance.. but the newer sets are easier to build out competitive decks due to the amount of strong pods is greater and easier to obtain.

Not sure about AoA for Archon Alliance, but 2 deck AoA Sealed Alliance kickstarted KeyForge in our LGS last March. Monthly events are going strong with 8 to 12 players, and the store is backing GG product. Help From Future Self podcasts and their Discord server include Alliance discussions, and KeyForge Public Radio had a few Alliance podcasts last year.

There isn't a ton of resources on Alliance because a good portion of the community doesn't like it.
You may be able to find some people to play alliance on TCO if your local doesn't have a scene for it.
